Final hours to claim one-time payment up to $10k from $1.05m data breach settlement – and you don't need to show proof | 0UD70JL | 2024-05-09 17:08:01
AMERICANS can qualify for up to $10,000 from a major data breach lawsuit involving an ambulance company.
Empress Ambulance Services agreed to pay out $1.05 million after a data breach may have compromised patient information.

The suit was filed after patients alleged the New York-based ambulance company failed to safeguard patient information.
Empress notified patients of a possible data leak in 2022.
On or around July 14 of that year, unauthorized individuals accessed files that "may have contained" patient information, according to the settlement website.
Empress has not admitted to any wrongdoing in the case.
The company settled to avoid the costs and uncertainty of further litigation.
For those impacted, the deadline to file a claim is May 8.
HOW TO QUALIFY
Those who believe they may have had their information leaked in the data breach have two options.
They can apply for either a "documented loss" payment, or a "cash fund" payment.
The documented loss payment will cover up to $10,000 in losses likely related to the data breach.
That can include credit card statements or receipts.

Another option is best for those without any proof of expenses related to the data breach.
Opting for a cash fund payment means no receipts or statements are required, but the payout amount is unclear.
After documented loss payments and other costs are subtracted from the total settlement amount of $1.05 million, the rest will be split evenly between all those who qualified for a cash payment.
In addition to or instead of one of those two options, class members can opt to receive credit monitoring services.
Applications can be filed by mail or online.

Robinhood is paying up after a settlement over its text messages.
