"High School Musical "director Kenny Ortega debunks rumor that Zac Efron didn't sing in the first movie

Longtime fans ofHigh School Musicalknow thatZac Efronisn't the only vocalist behind his character Troy Bolton's songs in the first movie. However, directorKenny Ortegashut down claims that the actor's voice isn't featured in the film. Speaking withEntertainment Tonight, the legendary choreographer explained that Efron did, in fact, sing all of the songs inHigh School Musical. His vocals were mixed with actor Drew Seeley's. "The songs were written before Zac got the role," Ortega said. "So although he could sing, and he had a lovely voice, it wasn't the voice that the songs were written for. So he sang everything and we dubbed parts of it, so that it had greater vocal strength." Tim Mosenfelder/Getty It's no secret that Seeley's powerhouse voice is prominently featured inHigh School Musical. He even stood in for Efron during thelive concert tourfor the film while the actor was makingHairspray. Seeleyaddressed recordingTroy Bolton's vocals on theMagical Rewindpodcast last year. "I was never told why they did it the way that they did it," Seeley told hosts Will Friedle and Sabrina Bryan. "But I think that they were within about three, four weeks of shooting the actual film, and they had me and not Zac. Me and the rest of the movie cast all go into the studio for, like, four days straight and record all the songs together. So, yeah, I knew that I was doing that." Want more movie news? The Yankees' bullpen struggled, including three new pitchers acquired beforethe trade deadline on Thursday. Jake Bird,David BednarandCamilo Dovalall made their debut for New York on Friday. Bird allowed three hits, including a home run, and four earned runs in just 0.1 inning of work. He entered the game with the Yankees leading 9-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the score at 9-8 Yankees, Bednar was brought into the game in place of Bird. Bednar pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four hits, including one home run, and two earned runs to surrender the lead. He did manage to get the Yankees through the eighth inning without giving up another run. Doval replaced Bednar to start the ninth inning with the Yankees leading 12-10. He allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) in 0.1 innings to take the loss. It wasn't entirely on Doval, though — he was undone in part by a horrible error by another new addition, Jose Caballero. Four pitches later, the Yankees' collapse was complete thanks to a dribbler that didn't even make it to the infield grass. Katie Ledecky wins seventh consecutive world title in 800-meter freestyleNew Foto - Katie Ledecky wins seventh consecutive world title in 800-meter freestyle

Katie Ledeckystubbornly refused to give up her 800-meter freestyle crown Saturday at the world championships in Singapore, winning that race for a seventh consecutive time and fending off Canada's Summer McIntosh, who led a field of talented, young would-be usurpers. The seven world wins put Ledecky at the top of the chart for the most triumphs in a single event, as she passed her own record of six victories in the 1500 free and Sarah Sjöström of Sweden's six titles in the 50 butterfly. Ledecky said she didn't feel too much pressure coming into this race, satisfied with how she's been training all year. "It's been a really great season and I think coming into tonight, no matter what the outcome was, I was gonna be really happy with my season," she told NBC Sports. "And I think I just took the pressure off and allowed me to enjoy the race and kind of appreciate that moment." Ledecky forced the early pace, with McIntosh keeping her in close range. The young Canadian then took a brief, 0.14-second lead after 700 meters, with Ledecky's dominance appearing to teeter. But the veteran found another gear and quickly regained the lead before heading into the final 50 with a 0.25-second edge over McIntosh, an advantage the American extended as she closed out another win. McIntosh fell to third behind Australia's Lani Pallister. "That last 100 was pretty stressful," Ledecky said. "Lani was and Summer was right there." Ledecky clocked in at 8:05.62, Pallister at 8:05.98 and McIntosh 8:07.29. It was by far the closest worlds win of Ledecky's seven in the 800 free. A disappointed McIntosh said she didn't swim as well as she wanted to, but will turn the page and concentrate on her next race, in the 400 individual medley. "So it's just the beginning and I know I have lots of time in my career to do better at it,"she told the CBC. McIntosh vowed to use Saturday's disappointment as fuel for future 800-meter efforts. "I really wanted to swim my own race and I didn't do that," said McIntosh, who congratulated Ledecky and called her an "inspiration of mine." "I think what I did tonight actually makes me want to keep doing it more, to see how much better I can get at it because I know I can be way faster than I was tonight." The suburban Washington, D.C., native Ledecky said she's now looking forward to some time off, time with loved ones and a few dips in the pool she swam in as a youngster. "I'm looking forward to that," she said. "It's home to me but I'm with the people that I love, around the pool." The niece ofNew York Islanders co-owner Jon Ledeckyhas also been dominating the 800 free at the Olympics, having wongold in this race at the 2012 Gamesin London, 2016 in Rio, 2021 in Tokyo andlast summer near Paris. She's the only woman to win the same individual event at four Olympics, in any sport. The only other swimmer to pull off such a four-peat was American legend Michael Phelps, who took the 200 individual medley in 2004, 2008, 2012and 2016. At age 28, Ledecky was the field's oldest swimmer, and she outdueled her youngest and most fierce competitor, the 18-year-old Toronto native McIntosh. Ledecky's air of 800 invincibility was dented last year when a 17-year-old McIntoshbeat the Americanat the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 8. The Canadian prodigy opted against swimming in the 800 in France to concentrate on other events. She took gold in the 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley to become one of thebreakout stars of last summer. If McIntosh takes on the 800 free inLos Angeles, Saturday's race offered a tantalizing preview of what could be in store for 2028.

Tom Holland has finally revealed his new Spidey suit for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." Holland emerges from the shadows in his new costume, which more closely resembles the comic-book costume than his previous duds. Holland asks in the video. The new costume has brighter reds and blues and sports a larger spider insignia than his past suits from "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "Far From Home" and "No Way Home." The upcoming "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," set to release in theaters on July 31, 2026. "Brand New Day" is the fourth Spidey movie from Sony and Disney in the MCU, following the blockbuster "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in 2021. This will be the first time Holland has reappeared in the MCU since joining the screen with Sony's two previous Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, in "No Way Home." In "No Way Home," Parker Parker's true identity as Spider-Men is revealed to the entire world (thanks to Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio spilling the beans at the end of 2019's "Far From Home"). With his privacy erased, he turns to Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange to cast a spell and make everyone forget that he's Spider-Man. However, the spell has some unintended consequences and pulls in the other web-slingers and their villains from other dimensions. The three team up to defeat the evildoers, but in the end Peter makes the tough decision and allows Doctor Strange to finish his spell and make everyone forget his identity. That means his girlfriend M.J. Watson-Jones (Zendaya), best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) and everyone else has forgotten who Peter is. Also, in a tragic accident, Peter's Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) dies. Thus comes "Brand New Day," which pulls inspiration from the Spider-Man comic storyline of the same name. In the comics, Spidey makes a deal with the devil Mephisto to make the world forget his identity and to resurrect Aunt May, but it also dissolves his marriage to MJ and effectively reboots his world. "Shang-Chi" director Destin Daniel Cretton directs "Brand New Day," which will also introduce Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas to the MCU. Jon Bernthal's vigilante the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, will also appear in the movie. The Sharpe brothers make history in Pro Football Hall of FameNew Foto - The Sharpe brothers make history in Pro Football Hall of Fame

Let's roll back the clock to Aug. 6, 2011. That's whenShannon Sharpedelivered one of the most riveting induction speeches in the history of the Pro Football Hall of Fame with a bottom-line message for the ages. "I'm the only football player that's in the Hall of Fame, and the second-best player in my own family," Shannon declared, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd and tears from his presenter and big brother, Sterling. "If fate had dealt you a different hand," he added, speaking to Sterling, "there is no question, no question in my mind we would have become the first brothers to be elected to the Hall of Fame." Shannon, who became the 267th Hall of Famer, propelled by the three Super Bowl rings he won with theDenver BroncosandBaltimore Ravens, went on to urge the Hall of Fame's selection committee to take up the case for his brother. "All I can do is ask in the most humblest way I know, is that the next time you go into that room or start making a list, look at Sterling Sharpe's accomplishments," he said. Well, 14 years later and 31 years since Sterling was forced to retire after seven superb NFL seasons with theGreen Bay Packersdue to a neck injury, it has happened. Shannon and Sterling, who will become the 382nd enshrinee on Saturday, are the first set of brothers elected for busts in Canton. Maybe there will be more. The Kelces, Travis and Jason, will be in the mix someday. The Watts, J.J. and T.J., could have a shot if the younger brother keeps up his pace. And a few months ago, Eli Manning, Peyton's younger brother, was a Hall finalist in his first year of eligibility. Yet 25,000 men have played in the NFL since it was established in 1920 and it hasn't happened for a pair of brothers – until now. What are the odds? In the case of the Sharpe brothers, three years apart, their distinction is underscored by their remarkable journey from rural Georgia, where they were raised by late grandparents, Barney and Mary Porter, challenged by poverty. When I listened to the brothers on Shannon's "Club Shay Shay" podcast this week, reflecting on the conditions they endured growing up in a 1,000-square-foot cinder block home with cement floors and without running water, it added extra layers of appreciation for their achievements. Shannon, whose loquacious persona propelled him to become a media megastar after football, is hardly dropping hyperbole when he calls Sterling's Hall of Fame election the "proudest moment of my life." After all, Sterling – the hero and role model whose every word he hung on – once had the task of taking a young Shannon to the outhouse in the middle of the night. Shannon, who gave his big brother his first Super Bowl ring, certainly did his best in keeping his brother's candidacy alive. I've been a Hall selector for nearly 30 years and in recent years when I'd reach out to Shannon to get his take on one NFL topic after another, he would routinely end the exchange with a reminder about his brother's worthiness for a Hall call. The suggestions never came off as pushy, out of bounds or over the top and were nowhere in the ballpark of some of the campaigning for candidates that come our way as selectors. Instead, Shannon's efforts came off as authentic … even as he preached to the choir about Sterling's case. That it wasn't automatic for Sterling – the first receiver to post 100 receptions in back-to-back seasons, an All-Decade choice for the 1990s with a "Triple Crown" milestone in 1992 – was a function of his injury-shortened career more than anything. It certainly helped Sterling's chances that Terrell Davis, Tony Boselli and Kenny Easley earned Hall status with their own injury-shortened careers, yet his case stood on its own merits. Sterling is part of a relatively small class that includes cornerbackEric Allen, defensive endJared Allen(no relation to Eric) and tight end Antonio Gates, who has his own distinctive "first" with his honor. Gates is the only player chosen for the Hall of Fame who didn't play football in college, when he starred as a basketball player. Shannon, though, has one regret about this long-awaited moment for his brother that underscores the twists and turns of life. On Wednesday,The Athletic reported that ESPN won't be bringing Shannon backto the network for his role on the popular "First Take" show – dumping the former tight end who was suspended since April, when a former romantic partner filed a civil suit that alleged sexual assault and battery, seeking $50 million in damages. The suit was recently settled out of court. Talk about tough timing. Shannon's big brother finally gets his Hall call … while news emerges about his personal setback. "They did what they feel they needed to do and I'm at peace with that," Shannon said on Wednesday night on "The Nightcap" podcast he hosts with former NFL receiver Chad Johnson. "But I just wish thing could have waited until Monday because I hate the fact that I'm overshadowing my brother." Then again, it's a different type of fate. The timing is another element of the moment. Shannon needs not sweat it. Not now. Generations from now, the legacy of the Sharpe brothers reflected with their busts in Canton will reflect their impact as two of the greatest players who ever played pro football. And given the journey that includes Sterling's extended wait, a lot of peace comes with that. Oleksy, 39, says Hulk perpetuated the narrative that Brooke cut off communication with him because she disapproved of his new marriage — but "that's not the case at all," the former hockey player tells PEOPLE. "My wife will say it — it had nothing to do with his new wife. It had to do with the way he treated [Brooke]," says Oleksy. The support Brooke had given her father — who was embroiled in several controversies during his career, including using racial slurs towards his daughter's ex-boyfriend in a leakedaudio recording— had "really taken a toll on her," says her husband. "It was a situation where she loved her dad very, very much," Olesky says. When Brooke and Oleksy married in June 2022, Hulk declined to walk her down the aisle, and was not in attendance at the ceremony at all, telling Oleksy he "doesn't do weddings or funerals anymore." George Pimentel/WireImage Then, over a "series of phone calls" between Brooke and Hulk, "there were some things said, and a lot of mistruths," says Olesky, and it was thefinal straw of their relationship. Brooke did not attend her father'sthird wedding to Daily in October 2023. In the two years since, Olesky "remained in contact with members of her family to try to keep that door open and understand if I should protect my wife or try to mend the relationship." Brooke Oleksy/instagram But Oleksy says that "each and every conversation" he had with his father-in-law during those two years "just led me further to protect my family and my wife at all costs." Navigating the Hogans' complicated relationships was "challenging" for Oleksy over the last two years. He says he was grateful to have gotten to "experience the love my wife had for her dad and entire family every day," but that it was taxing. "With that love comes heartache and comes many challenges that she's faced in the public and that she still faces today because of others' actions," he adds. "At the end of the day, knowing how much she loves everybody in her family, I always try to support decisions that she made, and I always tried to support the relationships that she envisioned." Now, as they continue grieving in the public eye, Oleksy and his wife are happy to have each other and grateful for the support of their friends. "We believe family is created, and through these trying times, great people have come into our life or come back into our life, and it's brought us some great relationships and a great support system that we look at as family," he says. And there's plenty for the Oleksys to look forward to with their 7-month-old twins,Oliver Andrew and Molly Gene, whom he calls "absolute bundles of joy." "I'm looking forward to getting back and shifting our focus on our own family, and just taking the lessons that we've learned through these situations and just incorporating them into our own family and making sure that our son and daughter feel the love that we have for them each and every day," he says. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred downplays reported Bryce Harper confrontation: 'We shook hands'New Foto - MLB commissioner Rob Manfred downplays reported Bryce Harper confrontation: 'We shook hands'

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred would like everyone to stop making a big deal about his reported confrontation with Bryce Harper. Speaking with reporters Fridayafterannouncing Wrigley Field will host the 2027 MLB All-Star Game, Manfred downplayed a meeting in which the Philadelphia Phillies starreportedly told him he could "get the f*** out of our clubhouse"in response to a mention of the game's economics. When asked about the exchange, Manfred said the reaction was overblown: "I don't talk about those player meetings — let me say this. I think more has been made out of this than needs to be made out of it. Bryce expressed his views, at the end of the meeting, we shook hands and went our separate ways. Just not all that significant. "It was an individual picking a particular way to express himself and I don't think you need to make more out of it than that. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Harper was similarly hesitant to discuss the incident after it was reported, butconfirmed it took place and added, "I've always been very vocal [in labor discussions], just not in a way that people can see." The incident occurred amid mounting tension over upcoming collective bargaining agreement, which expires after the 2026 season. It is expected the league will insist on the introduction of a salary cap, which the MLB Players Association has always treated as a non-starter. If both sides hold their ground, the result would likely be a work stoppage that could affect the 2027 season. Manfred reportedly mentioned the word "lockout" in the meeting with the Phillies, and it's never a good sign when the commissioner is planting that seed more than a year in advance. Asked about a contingency plan for a work stoppage, Manfred again downplayed the possibility: "My contingency plan is to make an agreement with the players and play the '27 season." Few other stakeholders are as optimistic. In March,MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said the union believes a lockout is coming. This week, Phillies star Nick Castellanos used an interesting analogy for Manfred's mention of a lockout, via ESPN: "That's nothing to throw around. That's the same thing as me saying in a marriage, 'I think divorce is a possibility. It's probably going to happen.' You don't just say those things." It's been a contentious decade already for the league and union, which got in protracted disputes in 2020 and the 2021-22 offseason. The latter resulted in a delayed start to the 2022 season (but no lost games) and the current deal set to expire after 2026.

After winning the silver medal at each of the last two Summer Olympics in the 200-meter dash, American sprinter Kenny Bednarek finished first in the 100-meter dash on Day 2 of the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships Friday in Eugene, Ore. Bednarek sped to a personal-best of 9.79 seconds in the 100m, narrowly edging out Courtney Lindsey (9.82), and T'Mars McCallum (9.83). "I would say it's about damn time," Bednarek said after the race. "I've been second for a very long time. I always knew that I had the ability to win it but I just had to believe in myself. And this year I really started living up to my expectations." It's the first U.S. title for Bednarek. He finished seventh in the 100m in last year's Olympics and second in last year's U.S. Olympic Trials behind Noah Lyles, who won gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m in Paris. Lyles won his preliminary 100m heat at this year's meet, but elected to pull out of his semifinal to focus on his 200m race, which will be contested on Sunday. In the women's 100m, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ran away with the national title behind a personal-best time of 10.65. Kayla White (10.84) finished second while Aleia Hobbs (10.92) finished third. Isaac Grimes won the men's long jump on Friday, launching 26 feet, 9 inches on his sixth and final jump to edge out William Williams (26-8 1/2) in second and Jarrion Lawson (26-7 3/4) in third. In the women's high jump, Vashti Cunningham cleared 6-5 1/2 to win the national championship ahead of Sanaa Barnes (6-4 1/2), who failed each of her three attempts at 6-5 1/2. In the men's decathlon, Kyle Garland convincingly won the championship behind a personal-best score of 8,869. Garland finished first in long jump, shot put, high jump, 110-meter hurdles, discus throw and javelin throw. Heath Baldwin (8,407) finished second and Harrison Williams (8,223) rounded out the podium in third. James Van Der Beek Says Cancer Reignited His Passion for Acting and He's 'More in Love Than Ever' With Wife Kimberly (Exclusive)originally appeared onParade. James Van Der Beekhas entered a new act in his life—one ushered in by his cancer diagnosis. When theDawson's Creekstar moved to Texas during the pandemic and found himself surrounded by nature and with his children, he thought, "Man, this is life. What do I need acting for?" "I really let go of any attachments that I had to what it means to be an actor, or what my own version of success is or felt like or needs to be. And I just really felt like, 'Oh, I could walk away from this,'" Van Der Beek, 48, recalled in an exclusive interview withParade. "And then when I got cancer and I looked around at the world and where my place is in it and wanting to stay in it, I realized I love to tell stories. I really am so grateful for this opportunity to write and to act." "I joked that I'm the only guy who got cancer and said, 'You know what I've realized is I need to work more,'" he added. Van Der Beek, whowas diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023, feels he's gained not just a newfound appreciation for life. "And so I'm really looking forward to this next act," he said. As for what this new act might look like? "I think it's going to be a combination of things that I write and create and things that I'm just lucky enough to step into and join," Van Der Beek explained. "I would imagine there's got to be some comedy in there and hopefully some singing and dancing, too." "I think there was maybe a part of me before that was like, 'Okay, I'm gonna go grow or build or deal with this thing here, and then come back and I'll be perfect. Look at this.' And what I realized is just how marriage, it's a team sport," Van Der Beek said with a laugh. "If your spouse is attending a class or reading a book, or they've read some self-help book or whatever, and they're putting everything through that lens. Read that book. Read that book. Know what they're doing and participate in it and share your own process as well. Because there's who you were before you got married, there's who you are when you get married, and then there's who you're meant to become, and this other person is there to help you discover that." When it comes to their long-lasting marriage, the Hollywood star takes it day-by-day and tries to show up the best he possibly can, but remarked that "probably the secret" is "I married the right person, really." By his own admission, Van Der Beek's cancer diagnosis has strengthened his and Kimberly's relationship. "I'm more in love than ever, and more in awe of her than ever, and how she's able to handle everything that I had to drop when I got diagnosed, and everything that she does, and just what it is to be that loved by somebody," Van Der Beek gushed. The dad of six said, "I really feel like that's the best medicine, to be around all that love and just to see their support and to show them. You can talk about resilience. And I try really, really as best I can to teach resilience in my kids. But I think the best thing I could do is show them resilience." Related:James Van Der Beek Opens Up About How His Kids Are Handling His Cancer Diagnosis Since being diagnosed with cancer, Van Der Beek has come to discover the depth of his own resilience and strength. "In the beginning, one of the things I kept saying was, 'Man, I know this sounds stupid, but this is harder than I thought it would be,' and having been through this crazy journey, what I'm realizing is just how strong I am," he shared. Van Der Beek's also recognized the importance of asking for help, "no matter how strong you are." He said, "I don't know how anybody does this alone. And I was blessed with this amazing group of friends and family who had all been wanting to show up for me, but me trying to be Superman wouldn't let them. And so I was robbing them of a chance to show me how much they cared. That's really been a game changer, is just 'Oh I can be the guy who also asks for help when he needs it.'" To help raise awareness about colorectal cancer screenings, Van Der Beek has teamed up withGuardant Health. "One of the things I really want to get across to people is that you don't need symptoms to start getting screened. Put it on your radar, talk to your doctor," he advised. "At the time that I got diagnosed, I was in amazing cardiovascular shape. I was doing sauna, cold plunge, working out, all the things and I had full-blown stage three cancer and didn't know it." While colorectal cancer is the "second deadliest cancer," Van Der Beek pointed out that it is "also the most treatable when you catch it early." TheVarsity Bluesstar stressed, "That's why it's so crucial, and that's why I'm so happy to team up withShield by Guardantto get the word out there. What they offer is a really convenient, pleasant screening option because it's just a simple blood draw that you could do at your next doctor's appointment." Van der Beek himself had a "couple of symptoms" that prompted him to go in for his screening, but "nothing like [a] big flashing red flag." After privately navigating his diagnosis for a period of time, theSidelined: The QB and Meactorpublicly opened up about his healthin November of 2024. "Fortunately, I have an amazing inner circle, and my community, the Greater Austin medical community was amazing, and nobody leaked it for a year. And so I was given the time and the grace to handle it privately for quite some time," he said. Van Der Beek's diagnosis has continued to be a process with many chapters. "I think at first there was shock, and then there was 'All right, how am I going to make this the best thing that ever happened to me?' And then you ride that enthusiasm for a little while, and then reality kicks in and then you get tired and you get scared, and then you really start to look at your own mortality," he shared. "And then eventually, where I came to was recognizing that 'Oh wow. Even with cancer and not able to do the things that I want to do, like be the father I want to be, be the husband I want to be, even if I'm just sick in bed, I'm still worthy of love' and that's a really important thing to know and an important thing to share with everybody because we all are, and I think that's one thing that I had missed in my life in just how busy and how dedicated and how ambitious I was because I had such an oddly transactional relationship with self-love." Van Der Beek noted, "I look at it and say, 'Well, maybe that's the whole reason I'm going through this is to learn that lesson of, you know, the thing of like put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others.' You gotta love yourself before you can help anybody else." Paramount Pictures (2) Akiva Schaffer is directing the latest iteration of the popular police movie,The Naked Gun The comedy creator was tasked with following the franchise's storied legacy, while still acknowledging the fresh cast To do so, Schaffer said the new film needed to acknowledge O.J. Simpson's previous role in the original films The Naked Gunis making a comedic reference to all of its previous stars, including controversial athleteO.J. Simpson DirectorAkiva Schafferconfessed toThe Hollywood Reporterthat when people learned he was taking on the newest iteration of the spoof franchise, he was immediately asked about what he would do about Simpson'sNaked Guncharacter, Detective Nordberg. The late athlete starred in the 1988 original, plus the sequels in 1991 and 1994. "When I first told friends, 'Hey, I'm actually about to write aNaked Gun,' they'd go, 'What are you going to do about O.J?' So, right away, I was like, 'Oh, right. That's the elephant in the room that has to be addressed,' " he recalled for the outlet. But he confessed they only needed one joke to address audience questions. Paramount Pictures Schaffer, 47, admitted that after writing the initial joke acknowledging Simpson's character, he and the writers "never wrote another O.J. joke." The sole Simpson joke appears in the film's trailer, as starsLiam NeesonFrank Drebin Jr. andPaul Walter Hauserpay tribute to framed photos of their late parents in a police Hall of Legends. It then transitions to a framed portrait of Nordberg (Simpson), before cutting to his son Nordberg Jr. (Moses Jones) breaking the fourth wall and shaking his head in appallment. "We just went, 'Yep, that takes care of that,' " Schaffer said. "I didn't know that the joke would kill as hard as it did at our first test screening. If I had known that, then maybe I would've written other jokes," he continued. "But you want to be respectful of everything that revolves around him, so it's not something I really took glee in. We just had to acknowledge it in a way we thought was not dancing on anybody's misfortunes," he said, seemingly referencingSimpson's infamous 1995 murder trialfor the homicides of his ex-wife,Nicole Brown Simpsonand her friend,Ron Goldman. "So that's the way I made everyone relax all the time." (The film was intended to be 85 minutes long to mirror the original two films' runtimes, but is ultimately 83 minutes.) DALLAS (AP) — Kelsey Mitchell had 23 points, Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard had double-doubles and the Indiana Fever beat the Dallas Wings 88-78 on Friday night for their season-high fourth-straight win despite playing without Caitlin Clark for the sixth straight game. The game was moved to American Airlines Center in anticipation of a Clark-Paige Bueckers showdown but Clark missed her 15th game overall and the Fever improved to 8-7 without her. Bueckers did not disappoint the crowd of 17,857 — second-highest in Dallas history — with 22 points, her 12th 20-point game as she increased her WNBA record for double-figure games to start a career to 23 games. Boston had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Howard 11 points and a career-high tying 16 rebounds and both had five assists for the Fever (16-12), who are 3-0 against the Wings. Aari McDonald also had 12 points. Bueckers was the only player in double figures for the Wings (8-21). Arike Ogunbowale had eight points and did not play in the fourth quarter. Indiana, which tied a season high with 19 turnovers, had 12 3-pointers while Dallas didn't hit one until the fourth quarter and finished 2 for 15. The Wings went 24 for 25 from the foul line for a 14-point advantage but the Fever were a plus-14 on the boards, plus-10 on the offensive end. With a 9-0 burst in the second quarter the Fever pulled away from a 22-22 tie at the end of the first quarter to lead 48-42 at the half. The Fever upped the lead to 70-57 after three quarters. Dallas cut it to 75-69 in the middle of the fourth quarter but Indiana scored the next five to all but seal it. ___ AP WNBA:https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball

Lionel Messi's bodyguard Yassine Cheuko apparently took his job a little too seriously at the Leagues Cup. After a postgame confrontation in which Cheuko ran onto the field to push some Atlas players away from the Inter Miami star, the League Cup disciplinary committee announced it was banning him from all technical areas for the rest of the tournament, which runs through Aug. 31, and fining Inter Miami an undisclosed amount of money. The full statement: After the July 30 Inter Miami CF vs. Club Atlas match, a member of Inter Miami's club delegation displayed improper conduct by entering restricted areas without an official event credential. In accordance with the Leagues Cup 2025 Tournament Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has suspended the individual involved from all technical areas for the remainder of Leagues Cup 2025 and issued an undisclosed fine to Inter Miami CF. Silver Screen Collection/Hulton Archive/Getty ; Bettmann/Getty Oscar winner Bette Davis was a mother to three children Davis welcomed Barbara "B.D." in 1947, followed by Margot and Michael in 1951 B.D. wrote a memoir about Davis, which led to the mother and daughter becoming estranged Hollywood legendBette Daviswas a mother of three children: daughters Barbara "B.D." and Margot, and son Michael. Davis welcomed daughter Barbara "B.D." in 1947 with husband William Grant Sherry. Following their divorce in 1950, Davis married Gary Merrill, and the couple welcomed Margot and Michael via adoption the following year. Davis consciously waited to have kids so that she could devote more time to them. "I did not have my first child until I was 39," she toldThe New York Timesin April 1981. "My career was made. I was only making one or two films a year. They were years to be with my children and to enjoy them." Davis primarily raised her children in New England, tellingThe New York Timesthat her family primarily resided "on the coast of Maine and in Connecticut." However, Davis' relationships with her daughters and son made headlines over the years. In 1985 and 1987,B.D. wrote sensational memoirsthat painted Davis in an unflattering light. It led to B.D.'s estrangement from Davis; ultimately, she was not included in her mother's will. Here's everything to know about Bette Davis' children: Barbara "B.D." Hyman, Margot Merrill and Michael Merrill. PA Images via Getty (2) Davis and Sherry welcomed Barbara "B.D." on May 1, 1947. Following Davis and Merrill's wedding in 1950, B.D. was adopted by Merrill, she wrote in her memoirMy Mother's Keeper. Over the years, B.D. made several appearances in her mother's films. In 1951, she played Davis' daughter inPayment on Demand; in 1962, B.D. had a small cameo inWhat Ever Happened To Baby Jane?as the neighbor's daughter. In 1963, B.D. met her future husband, Jeremy Hyman, at theCannes Film Festivalwhen she was 15 years old. They married the following year, when she was 16 and he was 29. Though Davis gave her blessing, she later blamed the marriage for her estrangement from her daughter. Calling her attendance at the festival "one of the great mistakes of my life," Davis once said, perVanity Fair, "I believe it was this union that, years later, produced B.D.'s book about me." B.D. went on to have two kids with Hyman, sons Ashley and Justin. In 1981, Davis and Ashley appeared in the TV movieFamily Reuniontogether. "[Ashley] had never seen a motion picture set," Davis toldThe New York Timesin April 1981."It's the first time he's ever been away from his parents. Talent skips a generation, I think. B.D. wanted no part of acting. Neither did Margot or Michael, my adopted children." In 1985, B.D. published the bookMy Mother's Keeper, which alleged that Davis was a heavy drinker and an emotional manipulator. Speaking to PEOPLE that year, B.D. said that she wrote the book to try to help her mother. She elaborated to theLos Angeles Timesthat she hoped it would foster better communication between them. "First she'll have to work through her rage at what I've done," she said. "Then, she'll come and see me. It may be in anger, but it will be the start of true communication between us. As I say at the end of my book, the door will always be open to her ... it will take time, but it will happen." However, Davis and B.D. didn't make up. In 1987, Davis said they could "hardly have a close relationship like that after a book like that is written," perVanity Fair. "I lost her ... realizing she had written this book about me was as catastrophic as the stroke," she continued. That same year, Davis published a follow-up memoir to her previous works,This 'N That, which concluded with an open letter to her daughter. "You constantly inform people that you wrote this book to help me understand you and your way of life better," Davis wrote, perVanity Fair. "Your goal was not reached. I am now utterly confused as to who you are or what your way of life is. The sum total of your having written this book is a glaring lack of loyalty and thanks for the very privileged life I feel you have been given." When Davis died two years later in 1989, B.D. was not included in Davis' will, per theLos Angeles Times. After writing two books about Davis, B.D. went on to self-publish religious texts. Today, she's a minister in Charlottesville, Va., who preaches primarily through her website and YouTube videos. When she was 3 years old, Margot was diagnosed with brain damage, which doctors believed happened at birth. Subsequently, Margot spent most of her childhood at the Lochland School in Geneva, N.Y., perBustle. However, Davis ensured that Margot would be included on trips with the rest of the family. Ultimately, she settled near Boston and was assisted by Bay Cove Human Services, according to herobituary. She was a participant in the Special Olympics and a Boston sports fan. After an illness, Margot died in May 2022. "Margot was a special person, gifted in her own way," her obituary read. "She led a difficult and challenging life but was able to persevere to find a world of happiness and joy. She had a love for people which was reciprocated by all who knew her. Her laugh was contagious, and she had a keen sense of humor. She was a survivor on many levels, including overcoming a bout with breast cancer." Michael attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a bachelor's in political science in 1973. That same year, he moved to Brookline, Mass.; four years later, in 1977, he graduated from law school at Boston University, per his professionalbio. For the next two years, Michael defended American military tribunals in Germany. Upon his return in 1979, he formed Merrill & McGeary in Boston, where he remains working today. After B.D. publishedMy Mother's Keeper,Michael cut ties with his sister, perVanity Fair. When asked in a 1987 interview if she believed she was a good mother, Davis replied, according to the outlet, "I think I was ... I loved my children very, very much ... I think I was a good mother. My son does too. That's a comfort, that one child agrees." When Davis died in 1989, Michael inherited half of her estate, which was worth $1 million, per theLos Angeles Times. In 1997, Michael co-founded The Bette Davis Foundation with the goal of providing financial assistance to promising young acting students at Boston University. I Watched "The Hunting Wives "Strictly Out of FOMO," "and It Was the Most Titillating 8 Episodes of a Show I've Watched All Summer

Netflix The Hunting Wivesis Netflix's new murder mystery drama starring Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Katie Lowes, Dermot Mulroney and more The hit Netflix show has the internet abuzz for just how chaotic it is and I have to agree The show debuted on the streaming platform on July 21 and is available to stream now If you're not sure whether or not you should be watching Netflix's new hit dramaThe Hunting Wives, consider this your sign to do so. It's impossible to start that show and not binge all eight episodes in one sitting. I started watchingThe Hunting Wivesbecause everyone around me was watching it and my timelines across TikTok and Threads wouldn't let me live. Suffice it to say, it's the most chaotic eight hours I have spent on a show all summer. By the time the killer was revealed, I had scratched my head, cringed, covered my eyes and yelled at my TV 10 times over. The show is truly as unhinged as the internet says it is. Based on the May Cobb book of the same name,The Hunting Wivesfollows Sophie O'Neil (Brittany Snow), a soft-spoken Bostonite who moves to Texas with her family after her husband Graham (Evan Jonigkeit) gets a new job. Lionsgate While she is hesitant at first, Sophie makes friends with Margo Banks (played byMalin Akerman), the ringleader for a conservative group of women in Dallas, who's married to Graham's boss, Jed Banks (Dermot Mulroney). And though Margo and Jed are not exactly your cookie-cutter couple, it turns out their marriage is riddled with so many other nefarious activities one wouldn't expect for a couple of their standing. Related:https://people-app.onelink.me/HNIa/kz7l4cuf But that's hardly the biggest of Sophie's problems. During a wild night at Margo's lake house, Sophie — who had been sober following a drunken driving incident back in Boston — gets so drunk and high she blacks out. At some point during that night, Abby, one of the local teens, is shot dead in the woods nearby. Sophie's gun — which was an impulse buy just a few days back — is found and identified as the weapon that killed Abby. Sophie's quest to vindicate herself then leads to the unraveling of dark secrets, sketchy relationships, twisted small-town politics and more. Lionsgate In full transparency, this summary doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what happens inThe Hunting Wives. It was chaos I couldn't peel my eyes away from. While the murder is a pivotal point in the overarching narrative, I have to be honest and say that by the time I finished watching, it wasn't even top of mind anymore. Solving the crime was almost inconsequential to the story because the road it took us to get there was a spiraling one. The Hunting Wivesmakes no bonesabout the type of show it is and it immediately lets us know that modesty is not one of its offerings from the get-go. In episode 1, Graham takes Sophie to Margo and Jed's for their first outing in Texas. The event turns out to be an NRA party and Sophie immediately feels like an outsider. Trying to catch her breath as the new environment is a bit overwhelming, she heads to the bathroom, where she barges into Margo. Completely unfazed by the stranger who walked in on her, Margo proceeds to ask for a pad. Sophie reveals she doesn't have one and Margo strips down to her undies as she cleans herself up, which is flabbergasting to Sophie ... and me. Barely five minutes in, and I was put on high alert that there would be a lot of pearl-clutching in this show. Lionsgate TheHunting Wiveshas a lot of sex. Like,so much of it. From everywhere and everyone — teenage lovers, married people with their spouses, married people with other married people who are not their spouses; married people with non-married people, married people with their best friend's teenage kids and then there's an uncomfortable scene involving a youth pastor, which, really, is better if you watch for yourself than have me explain. It'sa lot. There are so many twists and turns in this show, I wasn't sure if I was silent or silenced by the time I was done watching. The main killer is exactly who you think it's going to be. But then there are several other murders and murderers who are revealed and are somehow pivotal to the main storyline, but also ... not really. Lionsgate What's great about this series is that, unlike shows such asGame of Thrones, for example, that can at times be hard to track how one thread ties into the other,Hunting Wivesmakes sure to hold your hand and usher you to your next "WTF!" moment so you're an active participant in your own bewilderment. Viewers have praised the show for how well it depicts the hypocrisy in certain political sectors and how openly provocative it is. I, however, am just impressed by how the writers were able to put its pieces together. With as many moving parts as the show had, not once did I feel like the plot was losing me. It was hard to look away, and not just because of the suspense that comes with crime dramas, but because I felt compelled to unravel whatever side stories had been revealed in the previous episode. If you're traveling, looking for something to opine about on social media or simply looking for a new way to kill eight hours this weekend, trust me when I say,The Hunting Wiveshas got you covered. MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic's bad luck with injuries and illness seems to have struck again. The German champion said Saturday that Pavlovic has undergone surgery after fracturing his eye socket in a team training session Friday. Bayern didn't say exactly how the injury happened or how long Pavlovic would be out, just that he "is facing a spell on the sidelines." The 21-year-old Pavlovic is considered one of world soccer's best young defensive midfielders but has already racked up a list of absences for sometimes-unusual injuries and illness. Pavlovic struggled with tonsillitis in his breakthrough 2023-24 season and was ruled out of Germany's team for Euro 2024 with illness. Last season, he had spells out with a collarbone fracture and glandular fever. Bayern's season starts Aug. 16 against Stuttgart in the German Super Cup. ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

Rachel Miller A woman surprised her family by sneaking a message with exciting news on top of her own birthday cake Rachel Miller recorded her family members' reactions when she and her husband Ben revealed the announcement "We wanted to tell the parents in a special way, but couldn't figure out the best way to do it," she tells PEOPLE A woman managed to make a cheerfulbirthday celebrationeven more joyous when she hid a special message on her owncake. Rachel Miller and her husband Ben, both 31, learned they were expecting their first baby in December 2024. When the time came for the pair to announce their exciting news, Rachel, who works as producer and director and makes videos in her spare time, knew she wanted to record the moment she revealed her pregnancy — and when inspiration struck, she ran with it. "We wanted to tell the parents in a special way, but couldn't figure out the best way to do it. And so I decided, my birthday's coming up, so nobody would expect it if we turned my birthday into the announcement," Rachel tells PEOPLE. The couple, who is based in Orlando, Fla., stopped by a Publix grocery store and asked an employee to write "We're Pregnant" on a cake, which they then brought to Rachel's birthday celebration. "It was super easy," says Rachel, who also runs a travelInstagramaccount where she and Ben post content from their trips around the globe. https://people-app.onelink.me/HNIa/kz7l4cu Tucking the cake into the back of the fridge behind the food, where "nobody was peeking," Rachel even pretended to drink alcohol, appearing to sip seltzer out of an empty can to "fool" her mother-in-law, to make the reveal even more of a surprise. When the time for the big announcement came, Ben walked into a room holding the birthday cake, which he then set down on the table. For a few seconds, nobody seemed to notice the message written in red frosting on top, but their faces quickly changed once they realized what it said. When it was time to reveal the news, Rachel recalls that she was excited, but right before, her hands couldn't stop shaking, and she was sweating. Rachel Miller Rachel and Ben's baby boy Camden was born on April 24. His name has a special meaning linked to the pair's love of travel. A couple of years ago, Rachel and Ben took a 102-mile hike through England on the Cotswold Way, which began in a town called Chipping Campden. "We loved that trip, and we think about it all the time, and it made sense. As soon as we thought about it, we knew that was the name," Rachel tells PEOPLE of choosing her son's moniker. These days, Rachel says her son "mostly just eats and sleeps," but she adds, "We hope to turn him into a traveler like us." While his parents most recently traveled to Guatemala, when Camden is old enough, Rachel and Ben hope to take him to England to ride narrowboats down the canals. Rachel Miller Rachel says she has also loved watching her husband interact with their son, explaining, "You don't know you're missing that part of your relationship until you become a parent, and then you see somebody you've been doing life with, just love someone so much." Ben and Rachel plan to continue posting moments from their life with Camden on social media. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! Rachel Miller "We're okay with documenting things just because that's kind of how we have a scrapbook of our life, making videos and sharing that. Really, how that started is we were sharing our life with our family, and then more people just found it," she says. The new mom, who previously shared videos throughout her pregnancy about her experience with gestational diabetes, adds that her goal is "to be educational" — not an influencer. "That's not what we're looking to do. We're just having fun and sharing that with the world," Rachel explains. Read the original article onPeople

Rockies' stunning 17-16 comeback win over Pirates highlights huge night for offense across MLBNew Foto - Rockies' stunning 17-16 comeback win over Pirates highlights huge night for offense across MLB

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle had a hard time describing what had just taken place after he delivered the crowning blow in perhaps the wildest game of the major league season. Doyle hit atwo-run homerwith one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap Colorado's stunning comeback from a nine-run, first-inning deficit in a17-16 victoryover the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. "Honestly, pretty speechless," Doyle told reporters. "It's hard to put into words. Just so proud of everyone in this clubhouse, never giving up. Man, what a win." Colorado won despite allowing nine runs during a first inning in which Pittsburgh's Oneil Cruz hit a grand slam and Andrew McCutchen had a three-run homer. According to Elias Sports Bureau andMLB.com, the Rockies were the first team to win after giving up nine runs in the first inning since Cleveland did it in a 15-13, 10-inningtriumphover the Kansas City Royals in 2006. Cleveland trailed that game 10-1 after one inning. Back in 1989, the Philadelphia Philliesbeat the Pirates15-11 after falling behind 10-2 in the first inning. The three other occasions in which a team won a game after allowing at least nine runs in the first inning came way back in 1884, 1896 and 1913. "Getting down nine in the first, it's tough to come back from, but we kept the energy high," Doyle said. "We kept the fight in us. Oh my God, what a game." Colorado scored one run in the bottom of the first, three in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to cut Pittsburgh's lead to 15-10. The Rockies still trailed 16-10 before scoring two runs in the eighth and five in the ninth. After Pittsburgh's Dennis Santana started the ninth by striking out Ezequiel Tovar, Hunter Goodman's 425-foot homer reduced the Pirates' lead to 16-13. Santana then walked Jordan Beck and allowed an RBI triple to Warming Bernabel. Thairo Estrada singled home Bernabel before Doyle delivered a 406-foot shot to end the game. The events in Colorado highlighted a night full of offense across the majors. According toStatsPerform,Friday marked the first time since June 23, 1930, that three major league games on the same day had at least 25 combined runs. The Miami Marlins erased an early 6-0 deficit and scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth tobeat the New York Yankees13-12. SINGAPORE (AP) — It's Katie Ledecky against Summer McIntosh in the final of the 800-meter freestyle, probably the most anticipated race at the swimming world championships in Singapore. The race is one of six finals on Saturday, but it overshadows everything else on Day 7. The championships wrap up on Sunday. Ledeckyof the United States holds the world record (8 minutes, 04.12 seconds) set earlier this year. The 28-year-old American has dominated the distance for a decade and has already won gold in the 1,500 in Singapore. She also has a bronze in the 400. Ledecky, 28, has won nine Olympic gold medals — the most decorated female in history — and her first gold was in 2012 in the London Olympics in the 800. McIntoshis an 18-year-old Canadian. She's already won three golds in Singapore and she swam just a second off Ledecky's time earlier this year. If anyone is to dethrone Ledecky, it's McIntosh. This would be McIntosh's fourth gold as she goes for five individual golds in the worlds, a feat only achieved the legendary American swimmer Michael Phelps. The other five finals are: the women's 50 butterfly; the men's 50 free; the women's 200 backstroke; the men's 100 butterfly; and mixed 4x100 freestyle relay. The Americans and Australians have each won five gold medals through six days. The Americans lead in overall medals with 20, although their performancehas been lacklusterand slowed after much of the team came down with a case of"acute gastroenteritis"in training camp in Thailand. __ AP sports:https://apnews.com/hub/sports
