When a new game or console is announced there's only one thing publishers are interested in: pre-orders. The lack of them, in the immediate aftermath of the Xbox One's reveal, put Microsoft into a tailspin they still haven't got out of, and similar problems have rushed many other companies to panic stations, if a game doesn't seem to be immediately attracting customers.
