Johnny Knoxville is no stranger to doing crazy stunts, thanks to his tenure on the long-running reality program "Jackass." Now he'll get to watch others take part in similar antics. Knoxville will host a revival on Fox of the popular competition program "Fear Factor," in which contestants would take on crazy assignments, such as jumping on to a moving vehicle or eating insects. In the new Fox version, a group of contestants will live together in a remote location, and grapple not only with dares and stunts but social-media challenges as well. The series, slated to be called "Fear Factor: The Next Chapter," is set to premiere during Fox's 2025-2026 season. "We'll be pushing fear and social strategy to places that will redefine reality competition, which makes Johnny the perfect host for what will be a wild, unforgettable ride, and we're beyond excited to see him unleash all the fear (and the fun) on our contestants and our viewers." "Fear Factor" has a long lineage. The series was originally hosted by Joe Rogan on NBC, then by Ludacris on MTV. Over the course of each episode, contestants vie for thousands of dollars by taking part in stunts that may involve physical challenges, gross-out demands and even extreme-action scenarios. Knoxville has seen it all. The regulars on "Jackass" might, in any given episode, snort wasabi, wander through a ball pit that contained snakes or get into a portable toilet that was launched via catapult. Stunts on "Jackass" were so outrageous that the show drew criticism from then-U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman. "Fear Factor" faced similar scrutiny, with one viewer filing a lawsuit against NBC after seeing a stunt that involved blended rats. The plaintiff claimed the sight was so disgusting it caused him to get violently ill, but a judge threw out the case, citing First Amendment protections. Fox will launch a revival of the series in an era when the average consumer is more accustomed to scenes that once were seen as too shocking to be on traditional TV. In an era when people make sexual entreaties on Tik Tok or suggest strange do-it-yourself guidance via YouTube, the fare seen on "Fear Factor" may no longer have the same power to appall. Knoxville's expertise with such fare may give him new power to lead the audience through what they see. "Johnny Knoxville is the champion of fearless entertainment," said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, in a prepared statement. "His wild sense of humor, unmatched ability to push boundaries and take on the extreme makes him the perfect fit to lead this bold new reinvention of 'Fear Factor.'" Since his time on "Jackass," Knoxville has acted in series including "The Studio," "Reboot," and "The Prank Panel," as well as in films including "The Ringer" and "The Dukes of Hazzard." He is represented by CAA, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, and The Lede Company. The new "Fear Factor" series is produced by Endemol Shine North America, a Banijay Americas company. Kevin Lee will serve as executive producer, along with Endemol Shine North America's Sharon Levy, Michael Heyerman and Sean Loughlin. The original "Fear Factor" was created by Endemol Shine Netherlands, and has resulted in 32 different versions of the show around the world. Casting for the upcoming series open to people over the age of 18, who are residents of the U.S. or Canada. More information can be found at FearIsBack.com.
