Buffalo Bills safety CJ Gardner-Johnson was thrown out of Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders following a reprehensible action directed at an opposing player.

Bills star Gardner-Johnson received his marching orders during Sunday's showdown in Las Vegas after he spat at Raiders standout tight end Brock Bowers right in view of an official.

The episode unfolded with 15 seconds left in the opening half following an incompletion from Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins. It comes as Jim Nantz suffered an 'injury' at the hands of Tony Romo's replacement live on CBS.

Between snaps, Gardner-Johnson walked toward a cluster of Raiders offensive players and spit at Bowers while his back was turned. The behavior happened directly in front of an official, who immediately tossed a flag and handed him an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty before removing him from the contest.

At first, a defensive holding penalty was assessed against Bills safety Cole Bishop, before the officials huddled for a conversation and decided to disqualify Gardner-Johnson from the game.

A slow-motion replay of the episode then revealed Gardner-Johnson unmistakably spitting toward Bowers, with CBS commentators Jim Nantz and JJ Watt responding to the reprehensible behavior as it happened.

"Not that anybody is surprised when he gets called for something like this," Nantz remarked as the replay aired on screen. "This is about as disrespectful as it gets," he subsequently noted.

NFL rules analyst Gene Steratore weighed in, declaring the action is "something we don't want to see in the game" and the ejection is "definitely warranted."

Nantz's assertion was hardly surprising given Gardner-Johnson's standing as one of the NFL's most notorious trash-talkers and instigators.

Just two weeks earlier, Gardner-Johnson took aim at Patriots wide receiver Efton Chism III, labeling him a "practice squad player" who "probably won't make (a play like that) again" following his remarkable touchdown catch in New England's victory over Buffalo.

What Gardner-Johnson didn't realize was that Chism III has never actually been on an NFL practice squad-a fact that quickly spread among NFL fans eager to criticize the Bills safety.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel even responded to the comment, remarking, "For a guy that has been on eight teams in four years, I mean, I guess he knows the drill."

Gardner-Johnson has actually played for six NFL franchises across eight seasons, including five different teams since the start of the 2023 season. Overall, the 28 year old has worn the uniforms of the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and Bills since joining the league in 2019.

It came as Terry Bradshaw angrily questioned his FOX NFL Sunday co-star with a 'shame on me' comment.
