James Maloney speaks out after being sacked by Cowboys following drink driving charge on eve of NRL finals campaign
Cowboys assistant coach James Maloney has spoken out after being sacked by North Queensland following a drink driving charge. It follows an incident involving police just days out from the Cowboys' round 27 clash against the Bulldogs in Sydney this weekend. Maloney was booked for alleged DUI and has cut ties with the club immediately. Cowboys football boss Michael Luck confirmed Maloney, one of head coach Todd Payten's key assistants, was terminated on the eve of the NRL finals.

Montreal Canadiens star forward Cole Caufield penned an emotional tribute to Johnny Gaudreau, the hockey player killed by a drunk driver last Thursday evening. The 31-year-old Gaudreau, who previously spent nine seasons with Calgary, and his younger brother Matthew, 29, died last Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while out cycling in New Jersey the night before their sister Katie's wedding. The driver, 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide with no bail or bond and is alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
