What 'angry and intimidating' Craig Bellamy is REALLY like as a boss, from those who have worked closest to him, before his first Wales game
When Craig Bellamy was playing for Cardiff City towards the end of his career, the full-backs marking him would often hear a peculiar noise. If Bellamy was on the ball, supporters closest to the pitch would instinctively stand up, anticipating a piece of magic. There followed the sound of dozens of plastic chairs flipping backwards, like the tumbling of dominoes. 'When the ball went towards him you'd just hear the seats going back,' recalls James O'Connor, who played right-back for Doncaster when Bellamy made his Cardiff debut in August 2010, and made more than 400 league appearances for six clubs.

The atmosphere in Dublin was poison as hooligans made Nazi salutes, hurled missiles and forced the game to be abandoned after 27 minutes: MATT BARLOW on England's infamous trip to Dublin in 1995
England manager Terry Venables hurried from the players' entrance and across to the team bus, climbed the steps and sank into the front seat by the window. David Davies, later an executive director of the FA but then still fresh in his first role as the communications chief, sat down beside him. Davies was deep in crisis mode, issuing instructions and warning of grave consequences. Venables raised a hand to cover his face.

Why England think Josh Hull is the real deal: He has played just 10 matches and averages 182 with the ball but his high ceiling has handed him the chance of a lifetime against Sri Lanka
Even by the audacious standards of Bazball, the selection of the uncapped Leicestershire left-armer Josh Hull for Friday's third Test against Sri Lanka at the Oval takes some beating. Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have long based their decisions on potential, not county stats. But a player who this summer has averaged 182 with the ball (and two with the bat) in division two of the championship while going at 5.

How Morgan Gibbs-White went from frustrated talent to the brink of an England cap after evolving from boy to man at Forest… and the words tattooed on his wrist he lives by
Once too nervous to introduce himself to Wayne Rooney, Morgan Gibbs-White this week hopes to realise a lifelong ambition by walking the same path as his idol. Gibbs-White's motto is, 'Why save the good stuff for later?' - words tattooed on his wrist - but he has certainly had to bide his time in this case. Seven years after helping England win the Under 17 World Cup and six after making his Premier League debut, the midfielder has finally reached the senior squad and - barring injury - should make his debut during the forthcoming Nations League fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

New Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell reveals his stance on Eddie Howe amid speculation linking him with the England manager's job
Paul Mitchell says he wants Eddie Howe to stay at Newcastle - but could not close the door on him leaving for England. The Magpies boss remains among the favourites to replace Gareth Southgate, and new sporting director Mitchell believes that is justified given the job Howe has done on Tyneside. When asked if the club would reject an approach from the Football Association, Mitchell said: 'We want Eddie Howe as our head coach for as long as we can.

Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell insists club's transfer policy wasn't 'fit for purpose' but vows to play a more commanding role in future recruitment alongside Eddie Howe
Paul Mitchell says the transfer strategy he walked into at Newcastle was not fit for purpose, as he promised to stamp his influence on the club after playing only a 'supporting' role this summer. The new sporting director has found himself under fire from fans and club legend Alan Shearer after failing to land Eddie Howe's top target of Marc Guehi last month. The Magpies walked away from a £70million deal for the Crystal Palace defender and closed the window with only two new signings at a cost of just £10m, leaving Howe frustrated.
