Australia's cricket team were mired by another controversial moment on British soil on Wednesday after a star player was not given out in dubious circumstances. The Aussies, taking on Scotland in the first match of their T20 series, were 113-2 in the seventh over when Scottish spinner Mark Watt readied himself to bowl at batter Josh Inglis. However, instead of run up towards the crease, the bowler launched his trademark 24-yard delivery, named the 'long ball', in which he releases the ball from well behind the crease in an effort to surprise the batter.

Liverpool have completed the signing of highly-rated teenage forward Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea. The Premier League approved the deal on Wednesday after the Reds passed the five-step review which is common practice when a young player wishes to move between two category one academies. It comes after reports in July that the 16-year-old wished to leave Chelsea and make the switch to Anfield. Chelsea, who under Todd Boehly's ownership have consistently spent big money on youngsters, were reported to be furious about the prospect of losing Ngumoha.

Buttler was meant to report for duty on Sunday, his 34th birthday, but the damage to his right calf has now ruled that out and placed his participation in the five-match one-day series in doubt too. It means England could face Australia over eight matches with two new captains at the helm. Phil Salt has been confirmed as T20 captain while Harry Brook would likely lead the 50-over side should Buttler fail to recover in time.
