OMAHA, Neb. -- Coastal Carolina took advantage of a sloppy performance by Oregon State in coasting to a 6-2 win in Game 6 of the Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Stadium on Sunday night. With their 25th consecutive victory, the 13th-ranked Chanticleers (55-11) are 2-0 in Omaha and in the driver's seat of Bracket 1. No. 8 Oregon State (48-15-1) will play an elimination game against Louisville at 1 p.m. local time on Tuesday. The winner of that game will advance to face Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, and would need to beat the Chanticleers again on Thursday in order to advance to the MCWS final series. It was mistake-filled from the outset for the Beavers. After shortstop Aiva Arquette pulled first baseman Jacob Kreig off the bag with a high throw on the first batter of the game, starting pitcher Ethan Kleinschmit struck out Sebastian Alexander before loading the bases with a walk and a hit batter while also mixing in a balk. It appeared Kleinschmit had forced in the first run of the game by hitting Blagen Pado with a pitch. But after a video review, Pado was deemed to have intentionally been hit by the full-count pitch and was called for an automatic strike. However, he was quickly picked up by teammate Colby Thorndyke, who lined a bases-clearing, two-out double just out of the reach of a diving Easton Talt in right-center field. It was Thorndyke's 17th double of the season and staked Coastal Carolina to a 3-0 lead after a 17-minute top of the first inning. Talt got the Beavers on the board with a drive to right to open the bottom of the third, hitting his eighth home run of the season on a 2-1 pitch off Chanticleers starter Jacob Morrison. But Oregon's State's poor defense struck again shortly thereafter. A tailor-made double-play ball with one out and two on in the top of the fourth went through the legs of Oregon State second baseman A.J Singer. Instead of OSU being out of the inning, Dean Mihos scored Coastal's fourth run of the game. The fifth came on a wild pitch to the next batter and was technically the first earned run charged to Kleinschmit. The Chants continued to pour it on in the fifth, with Mihos greeting reliever Zach Kmatz with an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-1. Morrison, a redshirt sophomore from Flushing, Mich., was charged with a lone run while striking out seven and throwing 105 pitches over 7 2/3 innings to improve to 12-0 on the season. Reliever Hayden Johnson was touched for a home run by Gavin Turley to lead off the ninth and was pulled with two outs and runners on first and second. With the potential tying run in the on-deck circle, Chants closer Ryan Lynch struck out Canon Reeder to end the threat and the game. Kleinschmidt dropped to 8-5 on the season, and was charged with two earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. --Derek Harper, Field Level Media

Spaun began his Father's Day with an early-morning trip to CVS to get medication for his daughter, who'd been up all night with an upset stomach. He ended his Father's Day bywinning the U.S. Open in unforgettable fashion. Way to go, dad. How it happened:Spaun was the leader after Round 1 and entered Sunday's final round in a three-way tie for second, one stroke off the lead. But after bogeying five of his first six holes, the 34-year-old appeared to have played himself out of contention before he could even make the turn. Then the skies opened up above Oakmont Country Club, leading to a 96-minute weather delay that proved to be exactly what Spaun needed. "I changed my outfit. I'm like,I'm done wearing those clothes. I just needed to reset everything," he said. Reset he did. While the rest of the field struggled once play resumed, Spaun thrived in the wet conditions andbegan mounting a comeback, one hole at a time. After anincredible driveled to a birdie on No. 17, he walked up to the 18th tee box needing a par to win. The putt of a lifetime:Spaun did one better than par, sinking an unforgettable 65-foot birdie puttto win his first major and finish 1-under for the tournament, officially beating the unbeatable Oakmont. Every other golfer finished over-par. This was the right stroke, in the right tournament, at the right time, for the right player. This was one of those why-we-watch moments, a triumph in the evening fog, a victory for the little guy in a sport increasingly tilted against the little guys. This wasn't a storybook finish — storybooks only wish they could be this good. — Jay Busbee, Yahoo Sports Rise to glory:Spaun grew up playing at a local par-3 track in Southern California, walked on at San Diego State and spent years toiling in the minors before finally reaching the PGA Tour, where he had a grand total of one win in 235 starts entering the weekend. It's hard to imagine a more fitting champion for golf's most meritocratic major, which has a way of celebrating the underdogs and rewarding the grinders. The last word:"I wasn't really groomed to be a professional golfer. I didn't get put through academies. I didn't play [Juniors]. I played local stuff," said Spaun, who stillpractices at munis alongside everyday golfersto keep himself grounded. "I just kept going, one foot in front of the other … and now here I am with the U.S. Open trophy." The Red Sox shocked the baseball world on Sunday when theyshipped slugger Rafael Devers to the Giantsin a blockbuster trade that ends a months-long position change saga in Boston. The trade:The Giants are sending two pitchers (Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison) and two minor leaguers (James Tibbs and Jose Bello) to the Red Sox in exchange for Devers. San Francisco has reportedly agreed to take on all of his contract, which will pay him $254.5 million through the 2033 season. How we got here:From Yahoo Sports' Russell Dorsey: The timeline of Devers' tenure with the Red Sox organization goes back more than a decade to when Boston signed him as an international free agent at the age of 16. He then made his debut in 2017 at age 20, and it wasn't long before his impact was being felt. After the trade of Mookie Betts in 2020 and the departure of Xander Bogaerts in free agency in 2022, the organization looked to Devers to be the new face of the franchise, inking him to a 10-year, $313.5 million extension in January 2023 and committing to him for the long term. But all those warm and fuzzy feelings quickly evaporated this season after Boston acquired third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency and the team told Devers he would be their permanent designated hitter going forward. Devers, who isn't the best defensive third baseman by any metric, was not shy about voicing his displeasure. And it didn't end there. After first baseman Triston Casas was lost for the season, the Red Sox asked Devers if he'd be willing to play first base. Having already moved once, he was less than happy about that request and ultimately told the Red Sox no. That's how we get to Sunday. How does Devers fit on the Giants?Offensively, the fit is obvious: Devers has been one of baseball's best hitters for years and is enjoying a career year, ranking sixth in OBP (.401) and 12th in OPS (.905). But where will he play on defense? The dynamic in San Francisco isnot much clearer than it was in Boston, writes Yahoo Sports' Jake Mintz. The Panthers have had to start on the road in every series this postseason. That hasn't been a problem for the defending champs, whose dominance away from home has them one win away from their second straight title. Road warriors:Florida's 5-2 victory over Edmonton in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final was the team's10th road win this postseason, tied for the most ever in a single playoffs. They're now 10-3 away from home, compared to 5-4 at Amerant Bank Arena. Round 1 (vs. TB):3-0 on the road, 1-1 at home Round 2 (vs. TOR):2-2 on the road, 2-1 at home East Final (vs. CAR):3-0 on the road, 1-1 at home Cup Final (vs. EDM):2-1 on the road, 1-1 at home What they're saying:The Panthers went 8-4 on the road in 2023 and 7-4 during last year's title run, so this is becoming a bit of a theme. "Our game travels," defenseman Seth Jones told The Athletic ($) after Game 2. "We feel comfortable on the road," added star winger Matthew Tkachuk. "We've said it a bunch: it's that us-against-the-world mindset." Marchand matches Lemieux:Brad Marchand, 37, scored his fifth and sixth goals of the series on Saturday, the most in a Cup Final since 1988. This is also the second time he's scored 5+ goals in a Cup Final (2011 with the Bruins). The only other player to do that over the past 50 years? The long road back: Sunday's victory was an emotional triumph for Kubica, who once rivaled the likes of Lewis Hamilton before anear-fatal crash in 2011left him with a partially amputated arm and all but ended his burgeoning F1 career. 🇦🇺Cairns, Australia —Competitors enter the water for the swimming portion of Sunday'sIronman Cairns, affectionately known as the "Race in Paradise." Quite the destination: Cairns is home to both the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, making it the only place in the world where two UNESCO World Heritage sites meet. Desperate Italy bucking the trend of picking more established coaches with hiring of GattusoNew Foto - Desperate Italy bucking the trend of picking more established coaches with hiring of Gattuso

ROME (AP) — It used to be that the coach of Italy's soccer team was someone who had a long list of managerial achievements and was nearer to the end of a career than the start. Not so withGennaro Gattuso. But these are desperate times for Italy, the four-time champion that is facing a real possibility of failing to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup. Luciano Spalletti was firedafterItaly lost its opening qualifier 3-0 to Norwayand when Claudio Ranieri rejected the job, the Italian federation turned to Gattuso — a member of the last Azzurri squad to win the World Cup in 2006. The hope is that the 47-year-old Gattuso can transmit the same level of combativeness and determination that he used to display as a gritty midfielder to a group of players who have shown more willingness to sweat it out for the clubs paying their contracts than the national team. Never mind that Gattuso has won only one trophy in his 12-year coaching career: an Italian Cup with Napoli five years ago. Because wherever he's gone, he has had a no-nonsense and no-filter approach at a series of clubs in crisis. So it's hard to imagine Gattuso dealing withFrancesco Acerbi's refusal of an Italy call up for the Norway gamein the same manner that Spalletti did — by mostly brushing it off. Verbal tirade at Crete When Gattuso didn't like the way he was being portrayed in the Greek media as coach of financially struggling club Crete in 2014, he lashed out in a verbal tirade during a memorable news conference. "I didn't come here for (a) holiday," he said then. "One year here is 10 years in another club. And this is good for me." Gattuso then resigned at Crete before he was convinced to change his mind and return a day later. At his next job with Pisa, he and Foggia counterpart Roberto De Zerbi nearly came to blows in a heated argument during a playoff win to earn promotion to Serie B after Gattuso was hit on the head by a bottle thrown from the stands. And just last season at Croatian club Hajduk Split, Gattuso removed star player Ivan Perisic from the team for disciplinary reasons. Confronting Beckham As a player, too, Gattuso never shied away from standing up to the biggest names. During the match in which he scored his only international goal — against England in 2000 — a 22-year-old Gattuso criticized David Beckham for alleged diving, telling the famous midfielder directly to his face, "This is not a swimming pool." Qualifying bonus While financial details were not announced, Gattuso was reportedly given only a one-year contract with Italy worth 800,000 euros (slightly under $1 million). But the deal includes a 1 million euro ($1.16 million) bonus if Italy qualifies for the World Cup, Italian media reported. Teammates from 2006 Gattuso won't be on his own. Former Italy goalkeeper and captain Gianluigi Buffon remains the squad's team manager. Leonardo Bonucci, the former defender who was captain of the squad that Gattuso coached at AC Milan, will be an assistant coach. Andrea Barzagli, another member of the 2006 team, appears set to be named coach of Italy's under-20 or under-21 squad. And Cesare Prandelli, who coached Italy to the final of the 2012 European Championship, is being tipped to take charge of the federation's development of young talents. Gattuso's debut will come against Estonia in September. ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

"Ferris Bueller "star Mia Sara reveals her favorite memory from filming the '80s classic: 'I had so much fun'

Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it — which is whyMia Sarais reflecting on her favorite memory from filmingFerris Bueller's Day Off. The actress, who starred as cool girl Sloane Peterson in the beloved 1986 teen-comedy classic, recently admitted that it's been "a very long time" since she revisited the coming-of-age flick. Her reason? "It's not really fun to watch yourself," she toldPEOPLEin a new interview. Still, Sara, 57, has no difficulty recalling her favorite moment from her days on set: shooting the movie's epic sequence in which Ferris (Matthew Broderick) commandeers a float at the Von Steuben Day parade, lip-syncing along to the songs "Danke Schoen" and "Twist and Shout" while Sloane and his pal Cameron (Alan Ruck) bust a move in the crowd. "I had so much fun doing that parade scene," Sara recalled. Paramount/courtesy Everett Collection She added that pulling it off was especially "crazy" because she and Ruck had to film the scene again and again. "We would do the dance and then we'd get in a van and they'd drive us blocks away," she explained. "And the camera would go, and then we'd do the dance again and wait for Matthew to pass." She continued, "It was just this crazy 'let's catch it as many times as we can.' So that was a great moment." Ferris Bueller's Day Offfollows cocky high school senior Ferris, who skips a day of classroom drudgery by playing hooky. After he recruits his girlfriend and best friend to join him, the trio embark on an adventure to his favorite Chicago spots — all while trying to outwit his persistent principal, Mr. Rooney (Jeffrey Jones). Though Sara hasn't rewatched the film in years, she did confirm that her children have witnessed her and Ferris' antics. CBS via Getty "My kids have absolutely seen it," she said. "I think when they were younger, it was just embarrassing. My kids, because they grew up in Hollywood — they grew up in Los Angeles — they had a lot of friends whose parents were actors who were still really working all the time, and so they were kind of bummed that I stopped working." Shakirahas conquered the world with her music, but she hasn't forgotten herraíces. TheColombian pop star, 48, reflected on herimmigrant background, as well as the impact of the current political climate on immigrant communities, in an interview with theBBCpublished June 12. The singer, who started her music career as a teenager in her native Colombia, moved to the United States in the late 1990s to raise her musical profile. "I was only 19 when I moved to the U.S., like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future," Shakira told the British outlet. "And I remember I was surrounded by Spanish-English dictionaries and synonym dictionaries — because back in the day, I didn't really have Google or ChatGPT to (help). So, it was all very precarious." The Grammy-winning songstress, known for her bilingual dance hits, also got candid on the tensions faced by many immigrants amid the Trump administration's sweeping deportation efforts, which havesparked nationwide protests. "It means living in constant fear. And it's painful to see," she said. Earlier this month, several demonstrationserupted across Los Angelesin response to a handful of immigration raids. The federal invasions, carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, took place in several parts of the city as part of a directive fromPresident Donald Trumpto find immigrants living in the United States without legal status. The White House previously set a goal ofremoving 1 million people annually, making good onTrump's campaign promiseto conduct the largest deportation operation in history. Shakira interview:Singer talks tour, special guests and prioritizing her kids After small protests against the raids on June 6, Trump took several swift actions, including calling in the4,000 California National Guardtroops and700 Marines, which drew ire — and at leastone lawsuit— from state officials who accused the president of stoking tension and escalating unrest. "Now, more than ever, we have to remain united," Shakira continued. "Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane." Shakira vows to 'always fight' with'my immigrant brothers and sisters' in Grammys speech This isn't the first time Shakira has shown her support for immigrant communities. While attending the67th annual Grammy Awardsin February, Shakira gave a heartfelt shout-out to her fellow immigrants whileaccepting the award for best Latin pop album. Van Gisbergen's emotional win in Mexico City locks him into NASCAR playoffsNew Foto - Van Gisbergen's emotional win in Mexico City locks him into NASCAR playoffs

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Very little went right for Shane Van Gisbergen in the buildup to NASCAR's first international Cup Series points-paying race of the modern era. A mechanical issue on takeoff forced his team charter to abort the initial journey to Mexico City. He arrived at the venue Friday, a day late, and after winning the pole Saturday, the New Zealander fell seriously ill. He was sleeping on the floor of his hauler before Sunday's race, unsure he'd be able to physically complete the 100-lap event at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. But there's something special about the Kiwi and new venues, especially in the rain, and he salvaged the weekend by winning on the road course to earn an automatic berth into NASCAR's playoffs. Van Gisbergen led 60 of 100 laps and beat Christopher Bell by 16.567 seconds. "I tried to treat it like when I go to Asia, just drink bottled water and be careful in the shower and brush your teeth with bottled water, but I just went downhill," Van Gisbergen said. "Couldn't keep anything in. Everything just went straight through me. I felt really queasy and my mind was there, but my body just had so much pressure in my stomach. Crazy weekend and everyone dug deep." It was the second Cup Series victory of his career. He won in his NASCAR debut at the inaugural 2023 street course race in Chicago — a victory that changed his career trajectory. Van Gisbergen left Australia V8 Supercars, where he was a multiple champion, for a full-time move to NASCAR. Although he had success in the Xfinity Series — he won three races last year as Trackhouse Racing developed him for a Cup Series ride — Van Gisbergen has struggled this year at NASCAR's top level. He started the race ranked 33rd in the Cup standings with only one top-10 finish through the first 15 races of the season. But his victory in Mexico City revived his season and gives him a shot to race for the Cup Series championship. "It means everything to us, this is why I'm here," Van Gisbergen said. "I am getting better and more competitive. We're really making a lot of progress." Van Gisbergen celebrated in his traditional rugby-style way — he drop-kicked a signed football into the grandstands and then said he had recovered enough to enjoy "some Red Bulls mixed with adult beverages" later Sunday. Van Gisbergen benefitted from an early pop-up rain shower on the first lap of the race because he's an exceptionally skilled driver on a wet surface. His win at Chicago was in monsoon-like conditions. Trackhouse now has two of its drivers — Ross Chastain and Van Gisbergen — locked into the playoffs. But it was a bit of a disappointment for Daniel Suarez, the Monterrey native who thrilled the hometown crowd with a win in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday, as he failed to challenge his teammate for the win and finished 19th. "I wish I was in the mix fighting for it a little more, but it just wasn't in the cards," Suarez said. "Every single thing about this weekend exceeded my expectations, the people, the fans, the sponsors, the excitement, the energy. "I had expectations for this weekend, not the results but, like, the event, and I can tell you that I personally exceeded those expectations," he added. "So very, very happy for that. Very blessed. I hope that we can do it many more times." Suarez, who appeared to be blinking back tears as he sang along with the Mexican national anthem in pre-race ceremonies, desperately wanted the home win in this contract year with Trackhouse. He was the face of this event as NASCAR ventured outside the U.S. with its top series for the first time since 1958. Bell finished second in a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. He was followed by Chase Elliott in a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Alex Bowman, who hurt his back in a crash last week at Michigan, withstood the pain for a fourth-place finish in his Hendrick Chevrolet. Michael McDowell of Spire Motorsports was fifth and followed by John Hunter Nemechek in a Toyota for Legacy Motor Club. Chase Briscoe of JGR was seventh and followed by Cole Custer for Haas Factory as the highest-finishing Ford driver. William Byron of Hendrick was ninth and Chris Buescher of RFK Racing rounded out the top 10. Chevrolets took five of the top-10 positions, including the victory. Stenhouse vs. Hocevar The ongoing feud between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Carson Hocevar continued after the race as a furious Stenhouse reached inside Hocevar's cockpit on pit road. He seemed to grab at Hocevar as he spoke to him, then slapped at his helmet as Stenhouse walked away. It wasn't clear what Stenhouse was upset about, but he's been furious with Hocevar for three consecutive weeks, dating to contact between the two at Nashville. Hocevar's in-car camera captured the audio of the confrontation. "I'm going to beat your (butt)," Stenhouse threatened. "You're a lap down, you've got nothing to do. Why you run right into me? It's the second time. I'm going to beat your (butt) when we get back to the States." Hocevar said after the race he couldn't really hear Stenhouse. "I know he was very mad and I was very apologetic," Hocevar said. "I got in the marbles and slid a lot longer than I expected to. Number one, not somebody I would ever want to hit again. But number two, I was basically just logging laps. I tried to turn left and avoid him. Just a really sloppy day for me." Gordon gives command NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon was selected to give the command for drivers to start their engines and admitted before the race he'd done some practicing. Why? Because he incorporated both English and Spanish in his delivery of the most famous words in racing. "Hola Mexico!" Gordon shouted. "Pilotos start your engines! Up Next NASCAR races next Sunday at Pocono Raceway, where Ryan Blaney won last year. ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing
