What to know about the next James Bond movie now that Denis Villeneuve will direct itNew Foto - What to know about the next James Bond movie now that Denis Villeneuve will direct it

In the 50-plus years of James Bond, the wait between films has never gone longer than six years. The next entry, and first since Daniel Craig's dramatic exit, may test that — but things are speeding up. On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studioannounced that Denis Villeneuve will directthe 26th Bond movie, putting the franchise in the hands of one of the most respected big-budget filmmakers. Here's what to know about that decision, and where things stand for 007. From 'Dune' to Bond Villeneuve, the 57-year-old French Canadian director, edged out other filmmakers who were reportedly eyed for the gig, including Edward Berger ("Conclave") and Paul King ("Paddington 2"). Since emerging with 2010's "Incendies," Villeneuve has established himself as a steward of cinematic IP ("Blade Runner 2049," "Dune") and a specialist in dark, doom-laden spectacle ("Sicaro," "Arrival"). "James Bond is in the hands of one of today's greatest filmmakers," said Mike Hopkins, head ofPrime Videoand Amazon MGM Studios. The culmination for Villeneuve has beenthe "Dune" films. His first two entries have surpassed $1 billion in box office and gathered a combined 15Academy Awardnominations, winning seven. Villeneuve is expected to begin shooting the third "Dune" film this summer, with a cast including Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya and Javier Bardem. "I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory," said Villeneuve. "I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor." What's the timetable? Amazon, which bought MGM Studiosin 2022 for $8.5 billion, hasn't set a release date yet or announced a screenwriter. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are shepherding the movie for the first time. In February, Amazon MGM Studiossecured creative control of the franchisefrom Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, whose family has presided over Bond since the first film, 1962's "Dr. No." The most likely timing would be production starting in 2026 and the film being released sometime in 2027. Who's in the mix? No new 007 has been named, but that hasn't stopped rumors and conjecture from running rampant. It's pure speculation buts oddsmakers have a few expected contenders for the martini-sipping role. Those include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Aaron Pierre, Henry Cavill, James Norton and Jack Lowden. Expectations are that the new Bond will remain male and British, but producers have said nothing publicly to tip their hand. Whoever it is will have big shoes to fill. In hisfive-film, 15-year stretchin the tuxedo, Daniel Craig was widely seen as one of the best Bonds, including the high point of "Skyfall" (2012) and the swan song of "No Time to Die" (2021). New corporate overloads with something to prove Since Albert "Cubby" Broccoli obtained the movie rights to Ian Fleming's books, James Bond has been a family business. That didn't change after Amazon bought MGM, but it did earlier this year when Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli agreed to let the studio take creative control. That handoff stoked concern from many Bond fans that 007 would be picked apart for spinoffs, series and the kind of intellectual property strip mining Hollywood has been known for in other franchises like "Star Wars." So far, though, Amazon MGM has made no announcement about any spinoffs, and is prioritizing the 26th Bond movie.

Mbappé files harassment complaint against PSG and judicial officials are investigatingNew Foto - Mbappé files harassment complaint against PSG and judicial officials are investigating

PARIS (AP) —Kylian Mbappéhas accusedParis Saint-Germainof moral harassment in a legal filing, the Paris prosecutor's office confirmed on Thursday. The Real Madrid star is at odds with his former club, arguing PSG owes him 55 million euros($61 million) in unpaid wages. Mbappé is also unhappy with the way he was treated by the Ligue 1 club when the France captain was sidelined before the 2023-24 season, following his decision not to extend his club contract. The prosecutor's office said Mbappé is "denouncing the 'lofting' he claimed to have been subjected to at Paris Saint-Germain." The word lofting is used in France to describe a practice that involves isolating a player from the main squad for sporting, administrative, or disciplinary reasons. Mbappéjoined Real Madridlast summer on a free transfer after scoring a club-record 256 goals in seven years at PSG, whichwon the Champions Leaguewithout him this year. Mbappé's relationship with PSG ended amiddeep tensions, and somefans booed himin his last home game at Parc des Princes. PSG felt let down by Mbappé after offering him the most lucrative contract in club history when hesigned a new contractin 2022. But Mbappé was frustrated because he felt promises to sign key players were not kept. When he signed that deal, he was paraded in front of fans holding up a jersey with 2025 on it. Mbappé was reportedly annoyed because the contract was until 2024 — with a player's option for an extra season. Mbappé stunned PSG in June 2023 by informing the club he wouldnot take the optionfor an extra year. With his contract effectively into its final year, it put PSG in the position of needing to sell Mbappé to avoid losing him for nothing when the contract expired. His PSG career could have ended that summer amid atense transfer standoff. After telling the club he would not extend, Mbappé was left off a preseason tour to Japan and South Korea and forced to train with fringe players. PSG said it would rather sell him than let the player leave for free in 2024, but he rejected a300 million euros moveto Saudi Arabia team Al-Hilal. PSG left Mbappé out of the opening league game of that season but he soon returned to the lineup following talks. Mbappé's legal team said in April it would start an action against PSG for harassment because of the way he was treated at the time. ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

Aryna Sabalenka top women's seed at Wimbledon as Iga Swiatek falls to No. 8New Foto - Aryna Sabalenka top women's seed at Wimbledon as Iga Swiatek falls to No. 8

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, as expected, is the top seed in the women's draw at Wimbledon. Her rival, Iga Swiatek of Poland, is the eighth seed, an uncharacteristic spot for the five-time Grand Slam champion. Swiatek, 24, is in a season-long slump that has seen her fall to No. 8 in the world rankings. She stood No. 1 in the world for 125 of the 133 weeks between April 4, 2022, and Oct. 20, 2024, when she was overtaken by Sabalenka. Swiatek had a season record of 32-10 through the French Open. She failed to qualify for the finals in Paris, where she is a four-time champion, falling to Sabalenka in the semifinals. In fact, Swiatek has not played in a tournament final in 2025. She has 22 career singles titles. Swiatek is set to face Paolini on Friday in the semifinal of the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, the final grass-court Wimbledon tuneup. Back at Wimbledon, seeded after Sabalenka are a pair of Americans -- No. 2 Coco Gauff and No. 3 Jessica Pegula -- followed by Italy's Jasmine Paolini, Qinwen Zheng of China, Madison Keys, Mirra Andreeva of Russia, Swiatek, Paula Badosa of Spain and Emma Navarro. None of the women in the Top 10 seeds have won a Wimbledon championship. The inclusion of Keys and Navarro makes four American women in the group. Play at Wimbledon opens Monday. The draw will be issued Friday. --Field Level Media

Here comes the moment, and you could hear a pin drop. And it's like, instead of being horrified, it's the funniest thing because your body is all of a sudden plummeting to earth." Maintaining a sense of humor about all this, Danson remembered, "One time a joke died, and [directorJames Burrows] turned and looked at the audience and said, 'Can you hear it? Are the mics on?' And they went, 'No.' And we turned it on, the joke killed." Alas, this didn't always do the trick. "A week later," Danson reflected upon a time that something didn't land, "I decided to go, 'Wait a minute. Can you hear us?' [They responded.] 'Yeah. We can.'" Yankees' Max Fried continues to make case to start the All-Star Game after reaching 10 winsNew Foto - Yankees' Max Fried continues to make case to start the All-Star Game after reaching 10 wins

CINCINNATI (AP) — Aaron Boone still has a couple weeks before deciding who will be the American League's starting pitcher for the All-Star Game. It could end up being one of his own players. Max Fried became the first pitcher to reach 10 wins this season in the New York Yankees 7-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. "It's down the road. We'll see. He's making the case though," Boone said about Fried's chances to start the midsummer classic on July 15 in Atlanta. The left-hander allowed one unearned run and four hits while striking out seven to improve to 10-2. Fried is the third Yankees pitcher since 1962 to be the first in the majors to reach double-digit victories, joining CC Sabathia in 2011 and Tommy John in 1979. "I guess it's cool but we're all here just trying to win games. A lot of it is credit to my teammates. It's nice, but that's more of a team stat than an individual one," said Fried about reaching double digits in wins. Fried signed a $218 million, eight-year contract with the Yankees last December and has excelled in his first year in pinstripes. He quickly became the staff's ace after Gerrit Cole was lost for the season during spring training due to Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Fried has four games this season where he has gone at least seven innings and not allowed an earned run, tied with Detroit's Tarik Skubal and San Diego's Nick Pivetta for most in the majors. He's second in the majors with a 1.92 ERA and 108 innings. "Ever since (Cole) went down he's shown us why they paid him what they paid him and why he's the guy we thought he was going to be. Especially someone who I played against for four or five years, to play behind him now is amazing," third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. said. "I always give him his prop and his flowers, but now he can take them any time he wants." The 1.92 ERA is the third-lowest by a Yankees' pitcher is his first 17 starts with the club since earned runs became an official stat in both leagues in 1913. Fried has allowed two or fewer earned runs in all but two starts. He has been even more dominant after Yankees' losses, going 8-1 with a 0.93 ERA in 10 starts. "I mean 10 wins in half a season, it's not easy to do in any era, especially now. But that's just a testament to how good and efficient he's been," Boone said. "Whether it's coming off a loss or extending a streak, his consistency has been great. "I told him again today 'just watching you more and more, I would not have wanted to hit off you.' He's got so many weapons out there and there's just so much movement to all his pitches, he's been terrific." Fried getting the start in the All-Star Game would carry more importance after he played eight seasons in Atlanta before coming to New York. Fried though knows that decision remains a couple weeks away. "I've got a handful of starts to go before the break. A lot can happen between now and then. Just focused on the next one in five or six days. I will deal with it when it gets here," he said. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

PARIS (AP) — Triple Olympic gold medalist Faith Kipyegon will try to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes later Thursday in Paris. Kipyegon, a three-time Olympic 1,500-meter champion from Kenya, is alreadythe world-record holderin the mile and 1,500. She will need to shave at least 7.65 seconds off her world record time of 4:07.64. It was more than 71 years ago whenBritish runner Roger Bannisterbecame the first man to eclipse four minutes in 3:59.4. "I want this attempt to say to women, 'You can dream and make your dreams valid,'" she said. "This is the way to go as women, to push boundaries and dream big." Kipyegon set the women's mile world record nearly two years ago during a Diamond League meet in Monaco. To improve it, Kipyegon will need to run each of her four laps an average of about two seconds faster. The 31-year-old athlete won her third straight 1,500 Olympic title in Paris last August. A month before that, she broke her own 1,500 record on the same track where she will run on Thursday at Stade Charléty. She will be wearing the latest innovations from Nike, from her aerodynamic track suit to her spikes. P Diddy trial live updates: Closing arguments begin in Sean Combs' sex-crimes caseNew Foto - P Diddy trial live updates: Closing arguments begin in Sean Combs' sex-crimes case

This story contains graphic descriptions that some readers may find disturbing. Before a verdict is reached,Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team has one last chance to plead his case in the music mogul'scriminal trial. Prosecutors and attorneys for the embattled hip-hop mogul returned to Manhattan court on June 26 to begin closing arguments in the sweeping federal sex-crimes case. The prosecution is scheduled to kick off arguments, which have previously been estimated to last four hours for each side. This comes after Judge Arun Subramanian met with U.S. attorneys and the defense during a June 25 charge conference, which was held to determine instructions for jurors before they begin deliberating either at the end of the week or beginning June 30. Prosecutors called forward more than 30 witnesses over the course of nearly seven weeks of testimony. Several individuals in Combs' personal and professional orbit — from ex-girlfriendsCasandra "Cassie" Ventura Fineand"Jane"toDanity KanealumDawn Richardand rap peerKid Cudi—took the stand. As testimony came to an end earlier this week, U.S. attorneys painted a picture of Combs and his employees being personally involved with organizing his alleged"freak-off" sex parties, working with escorts, Combs' partners and others to produce the elaborate sexual performances. Combs, 55, wasarrested in Septemberand charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He haspleaded not guilty. If convicted on all counts, the Bad Boy Records founder faces a minimum 15-year prison term and could be sentenced to life behind bars. Prosecutors spent weeks calling dozens of witnesses in their arguments against Combs. The jury heard from hisformer girlfriendsandbusiness associates, federal agents, security officers and others. But his lawyers wrapped up their case in less than 30 minutes without calling anyone to the stand. Why? One factor to note: Defendants in criminal cases aren't required to present evidence, and judges instruct juries not to hold that against defendants. To win a guilty verdict, prosecutors have to prove their cases beyond a reasonable doubt. Combs' lawyers haven't explained why they didn't call any witnesses. But they may think prosecutors haven't cleared that bar, or they don't want to risk calling a witness who could sway the jury against their client. Legal experts said the jury would need to consider the prosecution's evidence of Combs' physical, sexual and psychological abuse abuse against the defense's evidence that hisalleged victims consentedto the performances in at least some instances. The 12-member jury must be unanimous to convict Combs on any of the counts. "The question is which narrative is going to hold more weight," said Heather Cucolo, a professor at New York Law School. Prosecutors are also expected to argue that Combs is guilty ofracketeering conspiracybecause his employees helped organize the "freak off" sexual performances and cover up abuse. Combs' lawyers have argued there was no conspiracy in part because his employees were not aware of anything improper about the sexual performances, and that any drugs they procured for their boss were for his personal use. Diddy on trial newsletter:Step inside the courtroom as music mogul faces sex-crimes charges As the June 25 hearing over jury instructions came to a close, Judge Subramanian granted a request from Combs' team to wait until Friday morning, June 27, to begin its closing argument. Prosecutor Maurene Comey said the defense should have to start Thursday afternoon, June 26, after the prosecution's closing argument. She expressed concern that delaying it would waste the jury's time and that the defense was engaging in gamesmanship in order to sit with the prosecution's closing argument overnight and map out its response. However, Subramanian said he thought the arrangement would be fine, given that the defense is no longer expressing a concern about pushing the case beyond the July 4 holiday. Discover WITNESS:Access our exclusive collection of true crime stories, podcasts, videos and more The rapper verbally confirmed on June 24 hedid not want to take the stand– one of the only times Combs spoke out loud during his weekslong trial. Combs exchanged a few remarks with the judge, saying he was doing "great" and that he thought the judge was managing the trial well. He said it was "solely my decision" not to to testify, and he "thoroughly" discussed it with his legal team. During the June 25 conference, lawyers for Combs and the prosecution continued to make their cases to the judge on how he should instruct the jury about the charges the music mogul faces. Prosecutor Madison Smyser said it's important for jurors to understand that sex trafficking may sometimes have occurred without a completed commercial sex act. She gave the example of when Combs was seen on hotel security camera footage throwing Ventura Fine to the ground near an elevator and then dragging her, reportedly during an alleged "freak off." Surviving abuse:Cassie Ventura Fine and the unlikely bond with her mother-in-law Combs' lawyer, Alexandra Shapiro, argued that Combs would be "severely prejudiced" by that instruction, even if it's consistent with existing law, because the prosecution has repeatedly tried its case against Combs as if a commercial sex act is required. The judge said he was leaning toward the prosecution on the issue but would consider the matter further. No, none of the charges from Combs' federal indictment have been formally dropped. But in a June 24 letter to Judge Subramanian, prosecutors revealed they werewithdrawing some of their criminal allegationsahead of closing arguments. U.S. attorneys said they don't want jurors to consider their previous claims that Combs allegedly engaged in racketeering by attempting kidnapping in California and New York, attempting arson in California, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking. The move was made as part of an effort to "streamline" jury instructions that will be issued soon. Despite the tossed allegations, Combs' indictment accused him not just of attempting arson and kidnapping, but also of committing these crimes outright as part of a criminal conspiracy. The disgraced music mogul is in custody, and despite repeated attempts at bail, has remainedconfined to the Special Housing Unit in Brooklyn'sMetropolitan Detention Center. He has been in jail since his arrest on Sept. 16, 2024. Combs is facing federal sex-crimes and trafficking charges in a sprawling case that has eroded his status as a power player and kingmaker in the entertainment industry. He was arrested inSeptember 2024and later charged with racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to the five counts against him. Racketeering is the participation in an illegal scheme under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Statute, or RICO, as a way for the U.S. government to prosecute organizations that contribute to criminal activity. Using RICO law, which is typically aimed attargeting multi-person criminal organizations, prosecutors allegethat Combs coerced victims, some of whom they say were sex workers, through intimidation and narcotics to participate in"freak offs"— sometimes dayslong sex performances that federal prosecutors allege they have on video. The trial will not be televised, as cameras are typically not allowed in federal criminal trial proceedings.
