No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev and No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti became the latest top seeds to lose in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday in London. Zverev and Musetti joined Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev, also seeded in the top 10, who were eliminated in the first round on another hot day on Monday. Meanwhile, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy sailed through to the next round, and No. 6 Novak Djokovic of Serbia recovered from a dropped set to move on. Germany's Zverev, who is still seeking his first Grand Slam championship, was eliminated by France's Arthur Rinderknech, who crumpled to the grass court after the exhausting 7-6 (3), 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4 win that lasted four hours, 40 minutes. The match featured 56 aces -- 31 for Zverev -- along with 363 total points with just seven points (185 for Rinderknech, 178 for Zverev) separating the two players in the marathon. Zverev, a finalist at the Australian Open this year, has never advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon. Musetti, a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2024, lost to qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. For Basilashvili, it was his first win over a top-10 player in a major and came on a day with temperatures expected to exceed 91 degrees. Basilashvili hit 15 aces among his 48 winners in the two-hour, 25-minute triumph. Musetti, who led the ATP Tour in wins on grass courts in 2024, missed the grass tuneup season after suffering a left adductor injury in his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal of the French Open. "I was struggling to feel comfortable on the court from the beginning," Musetti said. "Going and going with the match, I was really losing focus and was not reactive on the ball when I was coming out from the serve. Even in the lateral movements, which normally I know how to move, today seems like I never played on this surface. A really bad performance I would say." The loss was Musetti's third in his career in the first round at Wimbledon. Sinner had no trouble with Luca Nardi, beating his fellow Italian 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 in one hour, 48 minutes. He did not face a break point and had 28 winners and 17 unforced errors compared to 19 and 33, respectively, for Nardi. "I'm very happy to come back here. It's such a special place for me," Sinner said in his on-court interview. "Playing against an Italian is for us very unfortunate, but one has to go through, so I'm happy that it is me. The atmosphere as always is amazing. I know it's very hot, very humid. I don't remember the last time it was this weather in London." Sinner, a three-time major winner, is looking for his first Wimbledon title. Djokovic, a seven-time champion at Wimbledon, squandered a 5-2 lead in a second-set tiebreaker against Frenchman Alexandre Muller but rebounded for a 6-1, 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-2 victory. No. 4 seed Jack Draper of Great Britain moved on when Argentine opponent Sebastian Baez -- down 6-2, 6-2, 2-1 -- retired from the match. No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz completed Monday's suspended match, coming from two sets down to defeat France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7 (6), 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-6 (6), 6-4. No. 10 Ben Shelton also avoided the upset bug, defeating Australia's Alex Bolt 6-4, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4). No. 11 seed Alex de Minaur of Australia and No. 13 Tommy Paul of the United States also advanced with straight-set wins over Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain and Johannus Monday of Great Britain, respectively. Paul and de Minaur both reached the quarterfinals in 2024. Czech Jakub Mensik, the No. 15 seed, joined fellow seeds Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria (No. 19), Czech Tomas Machac (No. 21) and Flavio Cobolli of Italy (No. 22) in advancing to the second round. In an all-French thriller, Gael Monfils rallied past No. 18 Ugo Humbert 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2. Another five-setter between qualifiers saw Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki charge past Italy's Giulio Zeppieri 2-6, 3-6, 6-3 7-6 (6), 7-5. Hungarian lucky loser Marton Fucsovics hit 18 aces in an upset of Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Argentina's Mariano Navone defeated Denis Shapovalov of Canada, the No. 27 seed, in four sets. Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia ousted American Alex Michelsen, the No. 30 seed, after winning a fifth-set tiebreaker. Other winners Thursday were Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, Hungary's Fabian Marozsan, Sebastian Ofner of Austria, Arthur Cazaux of France, Pedro Martinez of Spain and Australia's Aleksandar Vukic. Also victorious were Jaume Munar of Spain, Daniel Evans and Jack Pinnington Jones of Great Britain, Botic van de Zandschulp and Jesper De Jong of the Netherlands, August Holmgren of Denmark, Corentin Moutet of France, Croatia's Marin Cilic, Rinky Hijikata of Australia and Americans Reilly Opelka and Marcos Giron. --Field Level Media

The 2025 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place at 12 p.m. ET Friday on ESPN2 andfeatures the return of 16-time champion Joey Chestnut. Chestnut was banned from the event last year as a result of his partnership with Impossible Foods, a rival brand. Chestnut and Nathan's seem to have resolved their differences, as he returns to the contest and is a massive favorite at sportsbooks. Chestnut opened as a -2500 favorite (bet $25 to win $1) atBetMGMto win this year's contest, with last year's champion, Patrick Bertoletti, owning the second-best odds all the way back at 16-1 (bet $1 to win $16). Bertoletti consumed 58 hot dogs last year, but will almost assuredly have to best that number by a good deal to compete with Chestnut. Chestnut's record is 76 hot dogs eaten back in 2021 and the over/under at BetMGM for total hot dogs eaten by Chestnut at the 2025 event is 71.5, with the over juiced to -140. For comparison, Perlotti's over/under is only 50.5 hot dogs. Bettors can also wager on Chestnut (-2500) or the field (+900) to win the contest or an adjusted hot dog over/under of 76.5 for Chestnut (over +250, under -350). The winner of the contest receives $10,000 and the coveted mustard yellow belt.

Jury reaches verdict on 4 of 5 counts in Diddy trial but is told to keep deliberatingNew Foto - Jury reaches verdict on 4 of 5 counts in Diddy trial but is told to keep deliberating

NEW YORK (AP) — The jury inSean "Diddy" Combs'sex trafficking trial said Tuesday that it has reached a verdict on four of five counts against the hip-hop mogul. But the partial decision remained under wraps after jurors were told to keep deliberating because they were stuck on the top charge, racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors, Combs' defense team and Judge Arun Subramanian reasoned that after just two days of deliberations, it was too soon to give up on reaching a verdict on all counts. So rather than taking a partial verdict, Subramanian told the jury to continue weighing the remaining charge. Deliberations will continue Wednesday. The developments came late Tuesday afternoon, when the jury sent a note saying it was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on the racketeering conspiracy charge because there were jurors with "unpersuadable" views on both sides. But in less than 13 hours of deliberations, the jury did reach a verdict on two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The latter concerns allegations of arranging to fly the women and sex workers across state lines. If there is a conviction, the sex trafficking charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life. Transportation to engage in prostitution carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The outstanding charge, racketeering conspiracy, carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. After hearing about the jury note, Combs, 55, appeared morose as his lawyers spoke with him. At one point, the hip-hop mogulsolemnly read a piece of paper that attorney Marc Agnifilo handed to him. After the jury came in for instructions and then exited the room, a subdued Combs sat in his chair for a few minutes. As he stood to leave, he faced his relatives and supporters in the audience, blew a kiss and tapped his heart, as he frequently has done at the start and end of each day. Then he paused before his mother and exchanged a few words, telling her, "Love you" and "I'll be all right." Marshals then led him from the room. Jurors are weighing charges that Combs used his fame, wealth and violence to force two girlfriends into drug-fueledsex marathonswith male sex workers known as "freak-offs" or "hotel nights." He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers contendprosecutors are trying to criminalize Combs' swinger lifestyle and that, if anything, his conduct amounted to domestic violence, not federal felonies. Racketeering conspiracy is the most complicated charge because it requires the jury to decide not only whether Combs ran a "racketeering enterprise," but also whether he was involved in committing such offenses as some or all of various types of offenses, such as kidnapping and arson. Earlier Tuesday, the jury asked to review critical testimony from one of the prosecution's most important witnesses: the hip-hop mogul's former longtime girlfriendCassie, the R&B singer born Casandra Ventura. The panel of eight men and four womenasked for Cassie's account of Combs beating, kicking and dragging her at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016 — an assault captured on now-infamoussecurity camera footage. They also asked to see Cassie's testimony about when she said Combs accused her of taking drugs from him and kicked her off their yacht at the Cannes Film Festival in France in 2013. On their way back to the U.S., she said, he threatened to release explicit videos of her having sex. In addition, the jury asked for Cassie and stripper Daniel Phillip's testimony about her jumping into his lap at a New York City hotel. Phillip testified that "she was terrified," and he suspected Combs had been slapping and slamming her around an adjacent room. Phillip testified that he told her she was in real danger. Cassie, he said, "basically tried to convince me that it was OK: 'It's OK. I'm fine, I'll be OK.'" Tuesday's court session began with the lawyers and judge considering the jury's request late Monday for clarification about what qualifies as drug distribution, an aspect of the racketeering conspiracy charge. Subramanian ultimately reminded jurors of instructions he'd already given on that part of the case. On Monday, barely an hour into deliberations, the foreperson sent a note complaining that there was one juror "who we are concerned cannot follow your Honor's instructions." In response, the judge reminded jurors of their duties to deliberate and follow his instructions on the law. At the trial, Combschose not to testify. His lawyers built their arguments for acquittal mostly through lengthy cross-examinations of dozens of prosecution witnesses.

What do Bucks' moves mean for Giannis Antetokounmpo's future in Milwaukee?New Foto - What do Bucks' moves mean for Giannis Antetokounmpo's future in Milwaukee?

Who would've thunk the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks would become strange bedfellows this offseason? The Pacers could've very well kept franchise mainstay Myles Turner following their run to Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles injury has seemingly led them to punting on next season and avoiding the luxury tax while their point guard recovers. The Bucks didn't seem to have any route to improve while Damian Lillard, their aging point guard, recovered from the same exact injury, and while facing the loud ticking clock known as Giannis Antetokounmpo. Somehow, the Bucks found a way toacquire Turnerwith cap space they didn't have by using the stretch provision on Lillard, waiving himand the remaining $113 million on his contact that was slated to last for the next two years. Now that money will be evenly distributed as a salary cap hit for the next five years at $22 million, creating the opening for the 30-year-old Turner. Lillard knew something was coming, sources told Yahoo Sports, believing a trade was in the works and not this development. He can sign with a team if he chooses, perhaps for the minimum because any money he signs for will be offset by what the Bucks owe him. Or he can continue to rehab with his physical therapist, who wasn't a team employee. Remember, Lillard wanted Miami when exiting Portland before the Bucks swooped in, and after dealing with a blood clot then returning for the Bucks' first-round series, he tore his Achilles — an unfortunate turn of developments. But what does this mean for Antetokounmpo? He just had another stellar season — which we almost take for granted at this point — averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.2 blocks. He's turning 31 in December, and the Bucks have had more coaches (three) since winning a championship in 2021 than playoff series wins (one), thus creating a constant state of urgency. [Get more Bucks news: Bucks team feed] It's led to every move the franchise has made in the last five years. Trading for Jrue Holiday in 2020 led to the 2021 triumph, as well as Antetokounmpo re-signing with the Bucks. Trading Holiday for Lillard two years ago hasn't been so successful, but the extension Antetokounmpo signed in the wake of that trade will kick in this season. He's under contract until 2027-28, when he has a player option for $62.7 million. But he can press the "trade me" button at any point if he feels the Bucks aren't in position to compete for a championship. The developments in the Eastern Conference are as follows: Haliburton's injury, Jayson Tatum's injury and subsequent Celtics teardown, and Knicks uncertainty. In theory, had the Bucks not been dealing with Lillard's career-altering injury, they could've convinced themselves 2025-26 would be the year to make a run through a ravaged conference anyway, but Lillard going down changed everything. The Bucks have mortgaged more of their future in using the provision, even as it created the opening for Turner. Turner can help Antetokounmpo defensively with his mobility and shot-blocking, as well as spacing the floor. He was critical in doing that for Haliburton and the Pacers' pace-and-spread offense. But is it enough to satisfy Antetokounmpo? According to a report, he's not happy with the Bucks waiving Lillard. But why would the Bucks make such a move with long-lasting effects without consulting the player they're doing it all for? It's hard to imagine general manager Jon Horst and that front office only letting Antetokounmpo in on half the plan. That would be franchise malpractice and practically unethical in dealing with the franchise player. Lillard wouldn't have been able to help the Bucks on the floor next season anyway, so the money was a sunk cost. And it's clear the Bucks have no intention of just allowing Antetokounmpo to stew in unhappiness when he's appeared to look for reasons to stay as opposed to leaving. The Bucks retained Bobby Portis, Kevin Porter Jr. and Gary Trent Jr. along with bringing in Gary Harris as a free agent from Orlando. Kyle Kuzma is on the books for two more years after being brought in for veteran Khris Middleton, but had a disastrous first round against the Pacers. Does Horst have another move in place to bring on a point guard or take a swing on some of the vets in free agency like Russell Westbrook or Spencer Dinwiddie? For the Pacers, they're now stripped down and face an uncertain future, partially of their own choosing. For the Bucks, they keep trying and face an uncertain present, partially of their own choosing.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Jalen Williams, the All-Star guard/forward who helped the Oklahoma City Thunder win their first NBA title, had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist. The team said he will be re-evaluated in approximately 12 weeks. Thunder general manager Sam Presti said he expects Williams to be ready for the start of the regular season. Williams averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals last season and was named to the All-NBA third team and the NBA All-Defensive second team. He was injured during the Thunder's 125-112 win over the Phoenix Suns on April 9 and played in all 23 postseason games while nursing the torn ligament. Williams averaged 23.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the Finals against the Indiana Pacers, including aplayoff career-high 40 pointsin a 120-109 win in Game 5. "I really thought it was pretty impressive that he just kept moving along with no excuses and obviously played his best basketball down the stretch of the season," Presti said. Dr. Steven Shin performed the procedure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. ___ AP NBA:https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

Savannah Guthrie touches on 'horrible' divorce: 'It took me years to recover'New Foto - Savannah Guthrie touches on 'horrible' divorce: 'It took me years to recover'

Savannah Guthrieis offering rare insight into her divorce from her first husband. The "Today" host, 53, touched on her split from Mark Orchard during a discussion onMonica Lewinsky's"Reclaiming" podcast in an episode released on Tuesday, July 1. "It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart," she said. "It took me years to recover." Guthrie was married to Orchard from 2005 to 2009. The topic was brought up when Lewinsky asked Guthrie about her decision to include a disclaimer in her 2024 book, "Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere," stating that there were some personal subjects she would not go into depth on. Guthrie said she included this disclaimer because she wanted to establish her qualifications to write about topics like loss and suffering, without fully getting into details about her experience in those areas. "I wanted to say, 'You know what? I have experienced adversity, but I don't really want to tell you about the depths of that, because some of it was just too personal and too embarrassing,'" she told Lewinsky. "I have had my moments, and I have had my sadnesses. ... But I don't want to go there," the NBC host went on to say. "I'm down here, my feet are burning on the pavement. I just don't want to tell you why the pavement was so hot, or how many blisters I had on my feet. I don't want to give you the gory details." Savannah Guthriereveals this was 'the hardest' topic to write about in her book on faith Guthrie pointed to her divorce as an example of one of those topics she did not want to go into further detail about in her writing. "I'm not blaming anyone, but I don't really want to get into it," she said. Guthrie has been married to Michael Feldman since 2014. They have two children together. Speaking toUSA TODAY in 2024, Guthrie described "Mostly What God Does" as a "really vulnerable and personal" series of reflections on faith. "It's that way because in so many ways, this is the book that I need to read," she said. "… I need to be reminded, like we all do, that God loves us and is on our side and has an eternal promise to be present to us."
