Kevin Durant posts farewell to Suns as trade to Rockets becomes officialNew Foto - Kevin Durant posts farewell to Suns as trade to Rockets becomes official

Kevin Durant's run with the Phoenix Suns has officially come to an end. The trade that moved Durant to the Houston Rockets became official Sunday in what ended up beinga record seven-team deal. Shortly after that went through, Durant posted a long goodbye message to the Suns on social media. My time in Phoenix has come to an end. All these stops along the journey have really impacted me in a positive way. Remeber it's a world behind the scenes, and those who make things work in that space, work tirelessly to make our lives easier as players. Remeber [sic] it's a world behind the scenes, and those who make things work in that space, work tirelessly to make our lives easier as players. I appreciate all the quick interactions with everybody from support staff to teammates, distant cousins, it's all a family that I'm grateful to be a part of, no matter what. I truly believe this NBA is one big community. Much love to Arizona. Houston, can't wait!" Durant, who will turn 37 this fall, is now set to play for his fifth team in the league. The 15-time All-Star and four-time scoring champion averaged 26.6 points, 6 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season. Though Durant was clearly the centerpiece of the Suns during his two full seasons there, the team struggled to really get off the ground. Durant, who was traded there by the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season, ended up having three different head coaches in Phoenix. They went just 36-46 last season and missed the playoffs and were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs in 2024. Durant has one year left on his current contract, and he's eligible for a two-year extension next summer. The team appears ready to make a championship push now after making a series of big moves this offseason. They also landed center Clint Capela in Sunday's trade, and he'll help back up Alperen Şengün down low. Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. then likely round out the team's starting lineup with Durant. The Rockets went 52-30 last season and made the playoffs for the first time in five years, though they were knocked out in the opening round. The Rockets are clearly on the way up as head coach Ime Udoka enters his third season at the helm, and Durant's presence there can only help in their quest to win what would be their first championship in more than three decades. And as he enters the last stretch of his career, having that opportunity in front of him is about all Durant can ask for.

For the second consecutive season, Notre Dame could begin the season with a top offensive lineman injured. Sophomore Charles Jagusah suffered a fractured left humerus in a UTV accident and underwent surgery to repair the injury, the school announced Sunday. "The initial prognosis is favorable, and he will return to campus early this week for further evaluation and continued care," Notre Dame's football program saidin a statement. The accident occurred on July 5 in Wyoming. Jagusah, 6-foot-7 and 333 pounds, is expected to start at right guard for the Fighting Irish. Whether he will be ready for the start of the regular season has yet to be determined. Notre Dame begins the 2025 season on Aug. 31 at Miami (Florida). "If you put the film on when he was in the Penn State game and you watched him, you were like 'Oh, who's that dude," Rudolph said, via Irish Sports Daily. "And you don't do that a lot with offensive line. There's a lot going on for a guy to stand out that way." "When you see someone who maybe could be as good as anyone in the country or better, you kind of keep developing in that spot as well," he added. Fellow sophomore Sullivan Absher will likely play at right guard while Jagusah is sidelined. Redshirt freshman Guerby Lambert could also be in the mix, though he is recovering from shoulder surgery. True freshman Will Black has not yet practiced with the team and does not have experience at guard. Ranked asa four-star prospect by Rivals, Jagusah missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn right pectoral muscle in fall training camp. Notre Dame alsolost offensive lineman Ashton Craigand Billy Schrauth during the year. However, Jagusah was able to return for the final three games of the Irish's College Football Playoff run, playing on special teams versus Georgia, and as a reserve against Penn State and Ohio State.

Lando Norris wins controversial British Grand Prix after Oscar Piastri incurs penalty and heavy rain wreaks havoc on the raceNew Foto - Lando Norris wins controversial British Grand Prix after Oscar Piastri incurs penalty and heavy rain wreaks havoc on the race

Lando Norriswon a chaotic British Grand Prix on Sunday, safely navigating a rain-hit race punctuated by several safety cars and taking advantage of his teammateOscar Piastriincurring a 10-second penalty when one of those safety cars pulled off the track. Norris only led for the last few laps at Silverstone, having remained largely anonymous for much of the race. It was Piastri who set the pace almost all afternoon until his challenge was undone when he slammed on the brakes too forcefully as the safety car peeled off and picked up a 10-second penalty from the stewards. That left Norris as the winner-elect, providing he could complete the race cleanly – a difficult task in the inclement weather conditions that caused several drivers to lose control and spin off the track. "It's beautiful," he told broadcaster Sky Sports afterward. "Everything I dreamed of, I guess. Everything I have ever wanted to achieve. Apart from a championship, I think this is as good as it gets in terms of feelings, in terms of achievement, being proud, all of it. "This is where it all started for me, was actually watching you on TV many years ago. And now, thankfully, I've been able to have my go." By finishing first, Norris closed the gap to Piastri in the drivers' world championship and is now only eight points behind his teammate. Piastri held on for second while Kick Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg claimed his first ever F1 podium in his 239th race, despite starting in 19th on the grid. "Nico, Nico, Nico," his team shouted as they mobbed him afterwards, finally celebrating a podium for the German driver who holds the record for the most races completed without ever finishing in the top three. "What a race, coming from virtually last," he told Sky Sports. "It's pretty surreal, to be honest. Not sure how it all happened, but obviously crazy conditions, mixed conditions. It was a survival fight for a lot of the race." From the very start, it was an action-packed race with Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc among those pitting to change their tires before the race began. On pole, Max Verstappen started cleanly but, behind him, Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon collided, sending Lawson spinning off the track and causing a virtual safety car to be deployed. As soon as that virtual safety car ended, another one started when Gabriel Bortoleto had to abandon his car as he tried to limp back to the pits. Once that one finished, and the racing got going, Verstappen and Piastri battled for first place – Verstappen ducking and weaving all over the track to defend his position, though ultimately Piastri passed the Red Bull driver relatively easily. Rain began falling shortly afterwards and, after complaining about his tires not gripping the track, Verstappen slid wide, letting Norris through as well. All top three drivers pitted shortly afterward but Norris endured a slow pit stop, conceding second place back to Verstappen. The rain got heavier, the cars kicked up so much spray, and the conditions deteriorated so much that a full safety car was deployed. Then, as the race got back underway, visibility remained so poor that Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar accidentally drove into the back of Mercedes' Andrea Kimi Antonelli, crumpling the Frenchman's car and causing yet another safety car to come out. Led by Piastri, with Verstappen close behind, the drivers bunched up again. As the safety car began pulling off, Piastri started trying to outfox Verstappen but he braked so sharply that the Dutchman accidentally overtook him. Then, Piastri accelerated away and Verstappen spun out trying to match the Australian, slipping from second to 10th place. The stewards noted the controversial incident and hit the McLaren driver with the penalty that cost him the race. "I'm not going to say much. I'll get myself in trouble. Well done to Nico, I think that's the highlight of the day," Piastri told Sky Sports. "Apparently you can't brake behind the safety car anymore." Although Piastri remained running out front, his days as the race leader were numbered as he was unable to build up an advantage of more than 10 seconds over Norris. Eventually, McLaren pitted him and Norris took the lead, becoming tearful over the radio when he won his home race. Verstappen moved himself back up and finished in fifth place while Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth. This story has been updated with additional developments. Cavaliers re-sign Merrill while Nance is back for 2nd stint. Trade for Ball becomes officialNew Foto - Cavaliers re-sign Merrill while Nance is back for 2nd stint. Trade for Ball becomes official

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers will have a pair of familiar players back next season. The Cavs announced on Sunday they have re-signed Sam Merrill to a four-year contract and brought back Larry Nance Jr. for a second stint on a one-year deal. Cleveland's acquisition of Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls for Isaac Okorowas also made official on the first day of the signing period. Merrill averaged 7.2 points and made 137 3-pointers in 71 games last season. The fifth-year guard had 27 points and nine 3s on Feb. 2 at Dallas. Merrill was the final pick in the 2020 draft by New Orleans before joining the Cavaliers in March 2023. Retaining Merrill became a priority after Ty Jerome agreed to deal with Memphis. Nance spent parts of four seasons with the Cavs from 2018 through '21. He appeared in 182 games, including 76 starts, and averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. The 6-foot-8 forward/center also was part of Cleveland's last NBA Finals team in 2018. Nance played for Atlanta last season and averaged 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 24 games with three starts. He was the 27th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2015 NBA draft, and has also been with Portland and New Orleans during his 10-year career. The Nances are one of only two families in NBA history to have three members play for the same franchise. Larry Nance Sr. was with Cleveland from 1988-94 and Pete Nance played there from 2023-24. Nance Jr. will again wear No. 22 with the Cavs, the same number worn by his father, which was retired in 1995. Ball gives Cleveland a veteran point guard. Darius Garland is likely to miss the start of the regular season after undergoing surgery on his left big toe earlier this month. Ball averaged 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 35 games this past season after missing the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns because of a left knee injury. The 27-year old Ball underwent a meniscus and cartilage transplant in his left knee in March 2023 after two surgeries failed to fix an injury he suffered during his first season in Chicago in 2021-22. He has one year remaining on his contract with a team option for the 2026-27 season. ___ AP NBA:https://apnews.com/hub/nba
