INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark expects to play Wednesday when the Indiana Fever host the Golden State Valkyries after missing the past five games with a left groin injury. The All-Star captain participated in practice Monday which was open to season ticket holders, playing in a 5-on-5 scrimmage. It was the first time she'd done that since getting hurt on June 26. Barring any setbacks, Clark will be available to play Wednesday. "It's nice to get back out there and get back into the flow of playing with my teammates again," Clark told reporters after practice Tuesday. "It's going to be fun to get back out there hopefully and just feel things again. ... It's obviously hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks, so I'm excited to get out there." It was Clark's second injury of the season. She's only played in nine of the team's 18 games this season as well as the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final which saw the Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx. Clark had a left quad injury that forced her to miss five games last month. "I hope to play a decent amount — in the upper 20s. I guess it depends on how the game goes and how I feel and what the team needs," Clark said. "But I feel pretty good. But I'm going to try to not overdo it and put myself in a good position moving forward." ___ AP WNBA:https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball

Soccer-Trump to attend Club World Cup final, FIFA opens office in Trump TowerNew Foto - Soccer-Trump to attend Club World Cup final, FIFA opens office in Trump Tower

WASHINGTON/EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump will attend Sunday's Club World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, he said at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, as world soccer's ruling body FIFA announced it had opened an office in New York's Trump Tower. The expanded tournament featuring many of the world's best club teams has been widely seen as a dry run for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico with a record 48 national teams taking part. Sunday's Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium will be a preview of next year's championship match, with the home of the NFL's New York Jets and Giants also hosting the 2026 finale. "I'll be going to the game," Trump told reporters. The news came a day after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the opening of a representative office at Trump Tower, where the Club World Cup trophy will be on display until the final. "We have received such a big support from the government and from the President with the White House Task Force for the FIFA Club World Cup (now) and for the FIFA World Cup next year," Infantino said. Trump has not shied away from sport's super-sized spotlight during his second term, becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl in February, and in May announcing D.C. as the host for the 2027 NFL Draft from the Oval Office. His immigration crackdown and travel ban on 12 countries have prompted concerns ahead of the 2026 World Cup, however, even as Infantino offered assurances that the world will be welcomed in the U.S. for the quadrennial global showpiece event. A memo obtained by Reuters last month showed that the Trump administration was considering significantly expanding its travel restrictions by potentially banning citizens of 36 additional countries from entering the U.S. (Reporting by Amy Tennery in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Andrea Shalal in Washington, editing by Ed Osmond)

Anthony Davis reportedly has surgery to repair detached retinaNew Foto - Anthony Davis reportedly has surgery to repair detached retina

Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis had offseason surgery to repair a detached retina,ESPN's Shams Charania reportedTuesday. Davis is expected to be ready to return in time for training camp, according to the report. The surgery appears to be in part the result of an injury Davis sustained to his right eye on April 2. Davis' teammate, Daniel Gafford, inadvertently elbowed Davis in his eye in a game against the Atlanta Hawks. Davis left the game bleeding and returned with a bandage above his right eye. A cut above his eyerequired four stitches. The injury didn't appear to impact Davis' play. Davis scored 34 points and hit the game-winning bucket in the 120-118 win over Atlanta. He missed the following game, but that was due to it being the first night of a back-to-back set as Davis had recently returned from an adductor strain that sidelined him for 18 games. Davis' health is key to the Mavericks' hopes of returning to the playoffs next season and contending in a competitive Western Conference. When healthy, Davis is one of the game's most impactful two-way players. But that's always a significant contingency when it comes to Davis. Davis was limited to 51 games last season and has played in more than 62 regular-season games just once in the last seven seasons. He played in nine of a possible 33 games after arriving to the Mavericks via the controversial trade that sent franchise player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks will be under significant pressure to not only return to the playoffs but contend for a championship next season after trading the now 26-year-old Dončić for the 32-year-old Davis. Davis is the centerpiece of a lineup that also features injured All-Star guard Kyrie Irving and rookie Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick in last month's NBA Draft. To compete, the Mavericks will need Davis to remain healthy and Irving to return to form after sustaining an ACL tear that's expected to continue to sideline him for a good chunk of next season.

Home Run Derby 2025: Pirates slugger Oneil Cruz joins suddenly stacked group of power hitters at eventNew Foto - Home Run Derby 2025: Pirates slugger Oneil Cruz joins suddenly stacked group of power hitters at event

No Pete Alonso, no problem. The 2025 Home Run Derby got a massive power boost Tuesday when Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz was announced for the event. Cruz will join a suddenly stacked group of power hitters at the event — which include Cal Raleigh, James Wood, Byron Buxton and Ronald Acuña Jr. While Raleigh leads MLB in home runs, and Acuña has Derby experience, Cruz might have the best skill set to excel at the event. Cruz, 26, is a Statcast darling, and ranks in the 100th percentile in bat speed, average exit velocity, barrel rate and hard-hit percentage. Cruz also owns the record for hardest-hit ball recorded by Statcast. He set that record during a May 25 game vs. the Brewers when he belted a 122.9 mph home run into the Allegheny River. The hit surpassed the previous record of 122.4 mph, which was also held by Cruz. Simply put, his swing and approach are built for success at the Home Run Derby. Despite his immense power, Cruz hasn't reached his full potential as a hitter yet. He's slashing just .203/.315/.402 over 343 plate appearances. Cruz is the least accomplished player to enter the 20225 Derby. Of the five players confirmed for the event, he's the only one whose never made an All-Star Game. Both Raleigh and Wood were in the same position prior to Sunday, when Wood wasannounced as a reserve. Raleigh had previously been announced as astarter at the game. Whilethree other spotsare still up for grabs, the 2025 Home Run Derby should be a wide-open field. A number of talented power hitters have alreadydropped out of the event, including Alonso — a two-time winner — and Teoscar Hernandez — last year's winner. Aaron Judge also said he would not take part in the event. Those absences might serve as a disappointment for some, but they also guarantee a new winner will be crowned. They also ensure MLB will get to show off some of its young, powerful stars, especially now that Cruz and Wood are both on board.

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland (AP) — The Wales team bus was involved in a road traffic crash on Tuesday and its training session was canceled at the stadium where it plays France at the Women's European Championship. The Welsh Football Association said in a statement all the people involved — players and staff on the bus and in the other vehicle — were unharmed in the incident en route to the stadium in St. Gallen. Wales coach Rhian Wilkinson traveled separately from the team to the stadium for a news conference one day ahead of Wednesday's game. "Football is secondary and I think, yes, we are shaken," Wilkinson said. "But equally, we have a great group and I've been assured everyone's fine. You know, we've practiced for the unexpected." FAW said its priority "has been to remove the players from the scene and return to the Cymru training base to complete their preparations for tomorrow's match." France coach Laurent Bonadei started his team's news conference by wishing all the best for the Welsh players. "Winning or losing, health is so important. Health is number one," Bonadei said through an interpreter. "I heard they canceled their training and I hope they're OK and I hope they will be OK tomorrow."
