Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong 3rd player in MLB history with 25 homers, 25 steals before All-Star breakNew Foto - Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong 3rd player in MLB history with 25 homers, 25 steals before All-Star break

Pete Crow-Armstrong's breakout season continues to look more impressive by the day. The third-year star hit his 24th and 25th home runs of the year in theChicago Cubs'8-1 winover theMinnesota Twinson Thursday. With his 25th homer, Crow-Armstrong became the third player in MLB history to reach 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases before the MLB All-Star break. He joins Bobby Bonds and Eric Davis as the only others to achieve that feat. Crow-Armstrong, 23, reached the 25/25 mark in 92 games. Davis got to 25-25 in 69 games during the 1987 season (he had 27 homers and 33 steals in 74 games by the All-Star break), and Bonds did so in 91 games in 1973 (he was at 25 homers and 28 steals in 97 games), according toMLB.com's Sarah Langs. Alfonso Soriano also got to 25-25 in 91 games in 2002 but had 20 homers and 23 steals at the All-Star break that season. Shohei Ohtani, baseball's first 50-50 batterlast year, must have been at 25-25 by the All-Star break, right? Almost, but not quite. He had 26 homers and 23 stolen bases at the halfway point. Crow-Armstrong first went deep on Thursday with a two-run shot offChris Paddackin the third inning, crushing a 93.5 mph fastball left out over the plate to center field. After walking in the fifth, the Cubs center fielder then led off the seventh by lifting anAnthony Misiewiczcurveball in the middle of the strike zone to the right-center-field seats. PCA AGAIN!Pete Crow-Armstrong mashes No. 25 on the year 😤pic.twitter.com/wtp4GlG66v — MLB (@MLB)July 10, 2025 Including Thursday's two-home-run performance, Crow-Armstrong has five multi-homer games this season. He has more than doubled the 10 home runs he hit last year in his first full season as a major leaguer. And he'll almost certainly surpass the 123 games and 410 plate appearances he totaled last season. Adding a double in the ninth, Crow-Armstrong finished 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI on Thursday. He's batting .271/.309/.560 with 25 homers, 67 RBI and 27 steals with three games left to play before the All-Star break. The Cubs finish with a weekend series at theNew York Yankees. PCA's 25 homers are tied for sixth in MLB with teammateSeiya Suzuki. PCA's 70 RBI rank seventh, and his 27 steals are third in the league. Mets fans will surely appreciate mentioning that Crow-Armstrong was the team's first-round pick (No. 19 overall) in the 2020 draft, and hewas traded to the Cubsfor Javier Baez and Trevor Williams in 2021. Crow-Armstrong will start his first MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, elected to the lineup by fans.

'50s Music Icon Quietly Died Three Years Ago, Daughter Now Revealsoriginally appeared onParade. While some legends go out with a bang, others leave this world as softly as a whisper. Musical icon Dave "Baby" Cortez chose the latter, a passing that served as a stark contrast to the jubilant, soulful and often dance-worthy music he made throughout his life. Though Cortez was born in Detroit, his breakout moment came not through the city's famed doo-wop scene, but as part of the rising R&B and instrumental movement more closely associated with New York. He gained national attention in 1959 with his chart-topping hit "The Happy Organ," which stood out during an era dominated by vocal harmony groups. While Detroit was flourishing musically with the early sounds that would later define Motown, Cortez carved his own path with a distinct organ-driven style that helped shape the sound of instrumental pop and rock. From the '80s on, it was rare Cortez was seen in public, and rarer still that he gave an interview. He never officially quit the music business, but his actions spoke for him. As time wore on, he was spotted less and less frequently, and even his daughter, Taryn Sheffield, lost touch with the increasingly reclusive songwriter. "The music business wasn't very kind to him," Sheffield told Alex Williams in an interview forThe New York Times, "and he was bitter." By the time she was informed of his passing in 2022, Sheffield had not seen nor heard from her father in 13 years. As it turns out, she'd only been contacted at all because BMI, the organization responsible for distributing the royalties from his music, needed to find next of kin in order to issue future payments. At the time of his death in his New York City apartment, Cortez was 83 years old. By that point, he had lost contact with his family, and thus there was no one available to claim his body. He was buried in an unmarked grave on Hart Island, located just off of the Bronx. In 2012, Cortez granted a rare interview to the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), and thevideoremains one of the few pieces of archival footage of the songwriter in existence. In it, he chronicles the moment he found out "The Happy Organ" had become an overnight success. At the time, he was in the midst of touring the country with a number of other acts, including Jimmy Clanton, Freddy Cannon and Fabian. "I was pretty much set, making a pretty good living, but the record came out during the tour," recounts Cortez. "The second week, I got a telegram and bam! So, you got a hit!" "The Happy Organ" was groundbreaking in more ways than one. Not only was it the first instrumental song to reach the top spot onBillboard'sHot 100, but it also marked the first time an organ had been so heavily featured in a hit pop/rock single. Music Legend, 63, Once Said Reunion Could Happen After Bandmate's Sudden ExitNew Foto - Music Legend, 63, Once Said Reunion Could Happen After Bandmate's Sudden Exit

Music Legend, 63, Once Said Reunion Could Happen After Bandmate's Sudden Exitoriginally appeared onParade. Fans have long speculated whether the legendary bandBon Joviwould ever reunite — and with past interviews suggesting the frontman is open to it, now might be the time. Last year, the 63-year-old rocker revealed he's only spoken to guitaristRichie Samboratwice since his unexpected departure from the group in 2013. "It was a shock,"Jon Bon Jovisaid of Sambora's sudden exit mid-tour. "Nobody anticipated it, no one saw it coming." He recalled one of their last conversations on Easter Sunday, when they discussed their albumWhat About Now. Sambora asked to stay home one more day — Bon Jovi agreed, expecting him back for their next show in Calgary. However, Sambora called and said he wouldn't be returning. The guitarist later claimed he left partly because he felt the band had grown "stale" — a claim Bon Jovi strongly disagrees with. "I didn't think so, and the collective, we didn't think so," he once toldClassic Rock. "I personally thought that everything was going incredibly f--king well. And it was never brought up—in the room, in the writing, in the recording, or during the first 20 shows of that tour." In that 2024 interview, Bon Jovi admitted the split still hurts and that they've barely kept in touch over the past 11 years. "I've talked to him twice," he said. "He. Quit. The. Band. I swear to Christ there was never a fight, nothing… He wasn't kicked out, he quit. And he hasn't made any great overtures about coming back." After Sambora's exit, the band tapped guitaristPhil Xto fill in. By 2014, Bon Jovi officially confirmed Sambora would not return. Still, the door hasn't fully closed. In 2023, Sambora toldPEOPLEa reunion "could definitely happen." "It's just a question of when everybody's ready to go do it. It will be a big, massive kind of undertaking," he said. The following year, while promoting his albumForever, Bon Jovi echoed that sentiment. "If he wanted to show up and play sometime, he knows the songs. Absolutely no animosity, I can promise you that," he toldAudacy Check In. So with both sides seemingly open — what's the hold up? With bands likeOasisreuniting after 15 years andBlack Sabbathreturning for one final farewell, a Bon Jovi and Sambora reunion would be a perfect addition to the comeback trend. FormerChicago CubsandPhiladelphia Philliesmanager Lee Elia died Wednesday, the Phillies announced. He was 87 years old. Elia managed each of his two teams for two seasons, the Cubs from 1982 to 1983 and the Phillies from 1987 to 1988. He accrued a career record of 238-300 with no playoff appearances. He also served as third-base coach on the Phillies' 1980 World Series champion team. He made his MLB debut in 1966 with theChicago White Sox, then returned with the Cubs in 1968, playing 95 career games in the big leagues. He spent much more time in the game as a coach. From 1980 to 2008, Elia filled a variety of roles for six organizations. Publicly, he is most remembered fora profanity-laced rant while overseeing the Cubs in 1983in response to boos from the Wrigley Field crowd. Over the course of more than three minutes, Elia dropped 23 f-bombs while ripping Cubs fans (sample text: "They ought to get a f***in' job and find out what it's like to go out and earn a f***in' living). The rant took on a life of its own, with Les Grobstein, one of the reporters present, telling the Seattle Times in 2008, "I can guarantee you it was on every continent on the planet within a week." Elia reportedly "just barely" kept his job in the aftermath and was let go months later once the Cubs slipped out of contention. Years later, Elia told the Times that he accepted the rant was part of his legacy: "I know it will never change," he said. "I know I'll always be one of those guys remembered for the tirade. But I hope it's a little softened now. I hope there's some warmness over it now. I hope they understand." The people near Elia, meanwhile, remember a kind man. Mariners manager Dan Wilson, who played for the Mariners during two of Elia's coaching stints with the team, praised Elia ina message to USA Today's Bob Nightengale: "Lee was special. Baseball has lost a giant. A great baseball man and an even better human. He was like a father to me and taught me how to be a big leaguer.'' Elia is survived by his wife, Priscilla, and two daughters.

Chargers RB Najee Harris sustains eye injury during Fourth of July fireworks 'mishap'New Foto - Chargers RB Najee Harris sustains eye injury during Fourth of July fireworks 'mishap'

Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harrisis expected to be ready for the NFL season after sustaining a "superficial" eye injury during a Fourth of July fireworks mishap, his agent said in a statementvia ESPN's Adam Schefter: "Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season." PerThe Mercury News, the incident occurred at 12:20 a.m. on July 5 in Harris' hometown of Antioch, California, with a firework explosion injuring multiple people. Harris was reportedly hospitalized going first to John Muir Hospital in Concord then to Stanford Hospital for treatment. [Get more Chargers news: Bolts team feed] The mishap will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the incident that cost star pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul parts of multiple fingers on the Fourth of July in 2015, but this one fortunately appears to be less serious. Antioch police told The Mercury News on Thursday they were still investigating the incident and had no other comment. Rumors of a serious eye injury had been previously circulating online, with the statement from Harris' agent apparently aiming to tamp down concern. While Harris will reportedly be ready for the season, it's unclear if the injury will affect his preparation for the season. Chargers training camp starts July 17. Harrissigned a one-year, $9.5 million deal with the Chargers this spring, ending a four-season tenure with thePittsburgh Steelers. He projects to be the new lead back in a run-heavy Chargers offense with first-round rookieOmarion Hampton, selected 22nd overall, right behind him. Harris was an iron man for the Steelers, playing 17 games and posting at least 1,000 rushing yards in all four seasons with them. The former first-round pick made a Pro Bowl in his rookie season, though questions about his efficiency prevented him from breaking through as a true star in Pittsburgh.

'The Office' Spinoff Gets Official Release Date -- And It's Sooner Than We Expectedoriginally appeared onParade. For years, many fans wondered whether they might one day see a continuation of NBC's decade-defining mockumentary sitcom,The Office. Now, twelve years after the show's series finale premiere in 2013, it seems like that long fantasized dream will officially become a reality withThe Office's upcoming spinoff,The Paper. As with its original precursor,The Paperwill employ a mockumentary approach to the traditional sitcom format. Set in Toledo, Ohio, the series focuses on a once prominent Midwestern newspaper trying to establish its place in mass culture, all the while contending with the difficulties of the modern internet age. Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Tim Key and Alex Edelman, among many others, Peacock has just announced that the show will premiere on the streaming platform on September 4. In particular, Peacock will begin streaming the first four episodes ofThe Paperon that specific date. Following this, two new episodes of the show will arrive on Peacock every Thursday, with the season's finale scheduled to arrive on September 25 for a total of 10 episodes. While it's perhaps worth wondering how exactlyThe Paperwill tie in to the overall continuity ofThe Office,we do know that several cast and crew members will play a role in the new spinoff, both in front of and behind the camera. Oscar Nunez, for example, will reprise his role as Dunder Mifflin's beleaguered accountant Oscar Martinez on a recurring role onThe Paper. Ken Kwapis, who directed 13 episodes ofThe Officeand served as an executive producer on the series, will also direct the second episode ofThe Paper. Meanwhile, Paul Lieberstein -- best known for his role asThe Office's soft-spoken HR representative, Toby Flenderson, as well as a longtime writer for the show -- has provided the script forThe Paper's season finale.
