Rory McIlroy pulls into tie for lead at Scottish OpenNew Foto - Rory McIlroy pulls into tie for lead at Scottish Open

The timing is just about right for Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy. He shot 4-under-par 66 in the third round of the Genesis Scottish Open, pulling into a share of the lead Saturday at North Berwick, Scotland. "I think I'm pretty close to being back to the level I was at going into the Masters," McIlroy said. "I think I've had a little bit of a lull, which I feel is understandable. So I'm just getting back to the level that I know that I can play at." McIlroy, bidding to win the tournament for the second time in three years, is tied atop the leaderboard with second-round leader Chris Gotterup at Renaissance Club. Gotterup had a 21-foot putt on the final hole with a chance to become the solo leader, but it was barely off the mark, so he settled for a third-round 70. "It's going to take a good round for sure, and I'm going to go give it my best," Gotterup said of the upcoming final 18 holes. The duo goes into Sunday's final round, which marks the last tune-up prior to next week's Open Championship, with a two-stroke lead at 11 under 199. "I think when you're playing the way you want to play and the ball is coming out of the window that you're looking, that's certainly more enjoyable than if it's not," McIlroy said. "Look, it's fun to be back here and play in front of so many kids out there and to have that support and that enthusiasm." Wyndham Clark made an early charge and posted 66, pulling to 9 under with Jake Knapp (68) and the English duo of Marco Penge (69) and Matt Fitzpatrick (69). McIlroy, who won the 2023 tournament at 15 under, played the last 11 holes in a bogey-free 4 under. "The atmosphere has been great all week," McIlroy said. "Obviously the weather helps that." McIlroy said there was good fortune as well, such as a bunker shot on No. 15 with the ball hitting the pin that allowed him to salvage par. Gotterup was coming off Friday's 61, but he had bogeys on Nos. 2 and 14. He said there were missed opportunities but that he can't complain about the position he's in. "I'm in a good spot," Gotterup said. "If you came to me on Tuesday and said that was the case, I would have taken it. I'm excited for (Sunday) and yeah, a good day ahead of us." Penge and Fitzpatrick, playing together in the second-to-last pairing, went to the 18th with a chance to pull into a share of the lead and instead they both took bogeys. But they're still in contention. "It's been over 18, 20 months since my last win," Fitzpatrick said. "It would be a big deal." Harris English, whose 66 matched McIlroy and Clark for the best score of the third round, is among eight golfers tied for seventh at 7 under. "I think you're excited to come over here and play links golf," Clark said. "And I kind of like the creativity, and even if you're not hitting it great you can kind of scrape it around, and then when you do hit it good and make some putts, turn it into a good round." World No. 1 Scott Scheffler shot 69 and sits at 6 under. "I think I felt like I hit a lot of good putts out there and the ball was just dodging the hole," Scheffler said. --Field Level Media

There was not a more dominant player in theWimbledon women's singlesside of the bracket thanIga Swiatek, and she's a champion for it. Swiatek, the No. 4 player in the world, shut out American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in thewomen's singles finalsat the 2025 Wimbledon Championship on July 12. It was her sixth straight-sets victory atthe All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Clubin the last two weeks. Swiatek's big day on the grass court surface turned out to be a historic one for the Polish women's tennis player, who took social media by storm this past week with her favorite meal:strawberries and pasta. The 24-year-old, who has now won six Grand Slam majors, won her first Wimbledon title in timely record fashion: seventh-fastest of the Open era, at 57 minutes. That wasn't the only history made by Swiatek. Her double bagel win over Anisimova also marked just the second ever such score for a women's singles final at Wimbledon — and the first since 1911. It was also the first double bagel in a Grand Slam women's singles final since the 1988 French Open. As noted by ESPN,Swiatek became just the eighth woman tennis player, and the only active WTA player, to win major titleson all three surfaces. She won herfirst Grand Slam major title on the clay court surfaceat the French Open in 2020, while winning her first title on the hard court surface at the US Open in 2022. Presuming that both players maintain their home run production through the second half of the season, the American League MVP race could be a tight one. Raleigh currently has the home run lead and leads MLB with 82 RBI, but Judge is batting .358 with a 1.204 OPS. Judge is currently on pace for 60 home runs, which would be the second time he has hit that mark during his career and the fourth time he hit 50 or more homers in a season. Last year, he hit 58 home runs while winning his second AL MVP.

Of his fame from the film and being known as a sex symbol, Atkins toldPlaygirl: "They taped an interview not long ago, and it was when Brooke had put out her documentary about being sexualized in the industry, and we talked about me being sexualized and I said in the interview, 'well I was too.' Buxton hits for the cycle on his bobblehead day as Twins beat Pirates, 12-4New Foto - Buxton hits for the cycle on his bobblehead day as Twins beat Pirates, 12-4

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — All-Star center fielder Byron Buxtonhit for the cycleon his bobblehead day, completing it with a solo home run in the seventh inning, and the Minnesota Twins routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-4 on Saturday. Buxton hit a single in the first inning, a triple in the second and a double in the third. He singled again in the fifth before stepping to the plate in the seventh for one more chance at the first cycle ever at Target Field, which opened in 2010. Facing Pirates reliever Andrew Heaney, Buxton hit a solo homer 427 feet to center field tocomplete the cycle— and send Target Field into a frenzy. His timing was perfect, too: Saturday's giveaway at the stadium was a Buxton bobblehead of his "Buck Truck" home run celebration. Buxton's homer came two days before the Home Run Derby, in which he'll participate in his home state of Georgia at Truist Park in Atlanta. Kody Clemens hit a three-run homer in the Twins' six-run second inning. Matt Wallner and Willi Castro each hit solo homers, with Castro's coming right after Buxton's momentous blast. Cole Sands threw two hitless innings as Minnesota's opening pitcher. Reliever Travis Adams (1-0) gave up two hits and two runs — one unearned — in four innings to pick up his first career win in his second major league appearance. Pirates starter Mike Burrows (1-3) recorded just four outs before he was lifted in his shortest start of the year. Jack Suwinski homered for the Pirates, who lost their eighth straight game. Key moment Buxton's cycle was the highlight of the game, but it was Clemens' blast that opened the floodgates in the Twins' six-run second inning. Key stat Buxton became the 12th player in Twins history to hit for the cycle. Up next RHP Mitch Keller (3-10, 3.58 ERA) starts Pittsburgh's final game before the All-Star break. Shohei Ohtani pitches 3 scoreless innings against the GiantsNew Foto - Shohei Ohtani pitches 3 scoreless innings against the Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Shohei Ohtani pitched three scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday as the Dodgers star continues to work his way back from elbow surgery. Working as an opener for the fifth time this season after not pitching in all of 2024, Ohtani threw 36 pitches, 25 for strikes while serving as Los Angeles' opener for the fifth time this season. He allowed one hit and struck out the side on 12 pitches in the first inning when his fastball was twice clocked at 99.9 mph. "Overall a very efficient outing," Ohtani said through an interpreter. "I was glad that I was able to prevent runs and we were able to keep the lead throughout the game." The Giants only two runners against Ohtani came on a four-pitch walk to Jung Hoo Lee in the second inning and Mike Yastrzemski's single in the third. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted a difference in Ohtani's mindset when he's on the mound. "You can just see it. ... that different demeanor that he carries on days that he pitches," Roberts said. "He really is very smart as far as being astute and knowing where we're at and knowing that this is an important win for us, an important day. He brought that intensity today. It's not overt but you can feel it." Ohtani threw 19 pitches that were at least 97 mph. "Aside from the stuff, I'm more happy with the command of my pitches and being able to attack the zone," Ohtani said. "Today was one of those days where my fastball felt pretty good, so I leaned on it a little bit more today." The two-way Japanese star, who did not pitch in all of 2024, was also the team's designated hitter and hit in the leadoff. He grounded out in his first two at-bats and then struck out twice. Ohtani has allowed one run and five hits over nine innings this season. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/MLB
