The Moon Mammoths were welcomed to Minor League Baseball on Saturday night with the Erie, Pennsylvania Double-A affiliate of theDetroit Tigersrebranding for four games this season. The Erie Seawolves were chosen by comedian John Oliver and the staff of his HBO program "Last Week Tonight" from among 47 teams who submitted pitches after the late-night host praised the goofy spirit of minor league baseball and wanted to contribute in some manner. Oliver threw out the first pitch forSaturday's gameversus the Chesapeake Baysox. He was also a celebrity bat boy and PA announcer, sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" andsat in with the broadcast team. Additionally, Oliver presented a race between mascots Fuzz E. Mammoth and Louie, the green Baysox mascot, and also worked as a Moon Pie vendor during the game. (By the way, the Baysox have their own alternate brand identityas the Oyster Catchers.) Erie was chosen afteran email listing 11 reasonswhy the team should be chosen, including "The SeaWolves play baseball nowhere near the sea" and "We have the least creatively named mascot in MiLB. His name is C. Wolf. Seriously." Per Oliver's conditions, the Seawolves had to unconditionally accept the rebranding proposal, with no input in the name, mascot or theme night to be created. "I love all of this," he added. "The way the world is now, I'd argue that we all badly, badly need this." JOHN OLIVER: "[Minor League Baseball] is one of the great things that America has."🫡pic.twitter.com/x983ZLtsYi — Minor League Baseball (@MiLB)July 19, 2025 Why the "Moon Mammoths?" Oliver and his staff wanted to create a brand identity that somehow told some of Erie's history to set it apart from other minor league baseball cities. "Erie did stand out to us as being, you know, uniquely eccentric. And I say that as both a compliment and an insult, which is the biggest compliment there is," Oliver said, via the Associated Press. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Last Week Tonight (@lastweektonight) The Seawolves have previously held humorous theme nights including "Alternative Facts Night" in 2017, during which the team celebrated the 2016 championship that it never actually won. Currently, the team boasts four of the Tigers'top minor-league prospectson its roster, including 2023 first-round pick Max Clark. The Moon Mammoths were inspiredby George Moon, who found a bone measuring three feet long while scuba diving in Erie County's Lake Pleasant in 1991. The bone was discovered to be the shoulder blade of a prehistoric mammoth. Subsequent dives after Moon's find recovered 80 percent of the creature's skeleton, including both of its tusks. "If you had bet me 34 years ago on something like this, I would have not taken the money, I would have lost,"Moon told Pittsburgh's KDKA. "This is great. I love it for Erie. It is great for the community, for the ballpark, for everybody around." The Seawolves will play three more games as the Moon Mammoths on Aug. 19, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13. After that, it's up to the team to decide whether or not to keep the mascot that Oliver referred to as "our furry child."

Robert Okine/Getty Chris Martinissued a playful warning to concertgoers during Coldplay's latest show, following the viral kiss cam drama that stemmed from the band's prior concert earlier in the week. On Saturday, July 19, the 48-year-old singer and his band performed at the Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. The outing marked Coldplay's first Music of the Spheres World Tour performance since the band's stint at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Wednesday, July 16, when a man and a woman went viral for theirreaction to being spottedtogether on camera. During Coldplay's July 19 show, Martin made sure to give the on-camera portion of the performance an introduction. "We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd," Martin said, as his audience erupted in cheers, per a fan-recordedclip. "How we're gonna do that is we're gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen." After another grin, the "Yellow" musician gave fans a cheeky warning: "So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now." Ethan Miller/Getty The Coldplay fan who posted the show footage later wrote onXthat "zero couples" were shown on the venue's jumbotron during the portion of the show. During the viral moment from earlier in the week, a man and a woman — who were not identified at the show — reacted after they were seen together on the large screens in the stadium. Martin poked fun at the moment in real-time, stating, "Oh, look at these two. All right, c'mon. You're okay." "Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," he then added. The Guardianreported that Martin also attempted to address what went down later in the performance. "Holy s---," he reportedly told the crowd. "I hope we didn't do something bad." After the clip went viral, and the identities of the man and the woman seen in the video were questioned, it was determined that Andy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, was involved. The tech company initially wrote on LinkedIn that its board "initiated a formal investigation" and would "have additional details to share very shortly," reiterating that its "leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability." It did not explicitly confirm the identities of anybody in the video at the time. Byron later resigned from his position at the company, with Astronomer announcing the move on July 19 via astatement on X. The company wrote that Byron had "tendered his resignation" and the board of directors "accepted" it. "As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding," Astronomer's statement continued. "Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met." "The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO," the statement added. "Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI. While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not," concluded the statement. "We're continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems." Citing a source, Axiosreportedthat the company's public response was delayed "due in part to Byron's slow resignation and exit package negotiations." The company's spokesperson had no comment on the Axios story when reached by PEOPLE. Byron has not responded to separate messages seeking comment, and efforts to reach the woman in the footage were previously unsuccessful. Coldplay isnext set to performat Nashville's Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, July 22. Later performances will bring the band to Miami, London and beyond through early September. British Open: Scottie Scheffler is becoming a golfing legendNew Foto - British Open: Scottie Scheffler is becoming a golfing legend

There are major tournaments that only begin on the back nine on Sunday. There are major tournaments that come down to the final putts on the 72nd hole. And then there's the 2025 British Open, which was pretty much over the moment Scottie Scheffler's plane touched down in Northern Ireland. Scheffler won the 2025 British Open at Royal Portrush on Sunday. But that sentence, while factual on its face, doesn't even touch the level of dominance Scheffler exhibited throughout the entire week. This technically wasn't a wire-to-wire win — Scheffler was one stroke off the lead after the first round — but it sure felt that way. Sunday wasn't even a fair fight. Scheffler entered the day four strokes ahead of the field — and his two closest pursuers were a guy who had played in just two majors since 2020, and a guy who hadn't won a tournament in nearly two years. Scheffler didn't waste any time snuffing out hopes on Sunday. He birdied his first hole and three of his first five to extend his lead over the field to a full touchdown. Only one hole on the front nine gave him any trouble, and he quickly erased a double-bogey on the 8th with birdies on the 9th and 12th. From there, he cruised to victory without a single serious challenge. He finished at 17-under, four shots ahead of runner-up Harris English. "This was a tough week. It was challenging. The golf course was playing really tough, and I had to focus very hard over the course of the weekend," Scheffler said shortly after hoisting the Claret Jug. "Really the only blemish over the last 36 holes was the double on 8, but did a good job of resetting and coming back with a birdie on 9." The winning putt. This is the one.pic.twitter.com/uZd6bhtkNF — The Open (@TheOpen)July 20, 2025 With the British Open over early, and the 2025 major season now over entirely, it's worth starting the conversation: Where does Scottie Scheffler rank right this moment among golf's all-time legends, and how much higher can he climb? There's only one player in this generation who can mount any kind of a challenge to Scheffler's domination … and Scheffler simply walked into his house and looted the place. The galleries at Royal Portrush tried to rally Rory McIlroy, the hometown kid, from the dunes to the sea. But McIlroy, like everyone else, was up against a generational opponent. normal sportpic.twitter.com/KkrVWDCeqz — Kyle Porter (@KylePorterNS)July 20, 2025 Were it not for Scheffler's parents meeting all those years ago, this absolutely would have been Rory McIlroy's tournament to lose. McIlroy embarrassed himself six years ago at The Open's return to Northern Ireland; he hit his first shot out of bounds and missed the cut entirely. Since then he's won just one major, but it was a big one — the 2025 Masters, the one tournament McIlroy has chased forever. He struggled in his first two majors after that Masters win, playing well below his capabilities, but found some steadiness and solace in himself this week. "It's almost a celebration of what I've been able to accomplish," McIlroy said Saturday night, speaking of the reception he received this week. "I want to celebrate with them, too. I've just really tried to embrace everything this week. I'm having an incredible time. I'm really enjoying myself." He wasn't able to summon up any real momentum on Sunday, two double-bogeys dragging down his score, but he appears to have shaken off whatever doldrums dogged him after Augusta. "None of us could hang with Scottie this week," McIlroy said afterward. "He's an incredible player. He's been dominant this week. Honestly, he's been dominant for the last couple years. He is the bar that we're all trying to get to. In a historical context, you could argue that there's only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie's been on here for the last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive." Worth noting, in the current context: McIlroy ended that 11-year quest to achieve the career grand slam earlier this year. Eleven months from now, Scheffler will be at the U.S. Open, in position to claim a career grand slam of his own. Sure, there were other good stories in the field. Bryson DeChambeau figured out links golf in real time, starting Thursday with a 7-over round that had him four strokes ahead of last place … and then, over the next three days, fighting his way all the way up to 9-under. English (-13), Chris Gotterup (-12), Haotong Li (-11), Wyndham Clark (-11) and Matt Fitzpatrick (-11) all had unexpected moments of brilliance. But since golf doesn't do podium finishes, all were fighting for, at best, a yellow top-10 square on their Wikipedia page, nothing more. Aside from the fact that he's, you know, the No. 1 player in the world, we probably should have known earlier that this was Scottie's week. Each major week begins with a series of press conferences where the game's most prominent players take a few minutes in front of the media to answer questions about either the state of their game or the current topic of the week (PGA Tour vs. LIV, slow play, golf ball rollback, et cetera). Most often, these are pro forma affairs, producing a few aggregation-worthy news nuggets but little of real substance. Scheffler has been as guilty as any player of going through the motions at these events, keeping his head down and just getting through the litany of questions. But for whatever reason, he decided on Tuesdayto hold forth on the cost of victory, and what golf means to him in the context of his own life. "To get to live out your dreams is very special, but at the end of the day, I'm not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers," he said. "I'm not out here to inspire someone to be the best player in the world because what's the point? This is not a fulfilling life. It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart." Were this any other player, we'd be thinking the guy didn't have the killer instinct necessary to win at the elite level. Since it's Scheffler, and we've seen him win at this level over and over, the effect is more revelatory — you don't have to present as a complete psychopath to be a winner. So now, with four majors in the bag, four trophies — well, two trophies and two green jackets — in hand, Scheffler has entered the conversation of all-time greats. (Wild fact: It took 1,197 days from Tiger Woods' first major to his fourth; it took Scheffler ... 1,197 days from his first major to his fourth.) No, he's nowhere near Tiger and Jack Nicklaus. He's not in the class of Arnold Palmer or Gary Player just yet. Golf's pantheon rewards not just numerical excellence, but sustained greatness, and for all of Scheffler's achievements, he only won his firsttournamentbarely three years ago. (Perspective: He won that first tournament on the same day as the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.) Still, there are only 21 men in golf history who have won more majors than Scheffler's four. He's 29 years old and playing golf not just at an elite level, but a sustainable one. Given the depth and breadth of talent in the world today, it's unlikely Scheffler will be able to get to Woods' 15 and Nicklaus' 18 majors, but could he pass Palmer's seven, Watson's eight, Gary Player's nine? It's always treacherous to speak in absolutes when it comes to golf, but in this case … absolutely. "I don't think we thought the golfing world would see someone as dominant as Tiger come through so soon, and here's Scottie sort of taking that throne of dominance," Xander Schauffele said Sunday after his round. "You can't even say he's on a run. He's just been killing it for over two years now. He's a tough man to beat, and when you see his name up on the leaderboard, it sucks for us." Scheffler dismissed comparisons with icons like Woods as "silly." "Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth," he said Sunday. "I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf ... I don't focus on that kind of stuff. That's not what motivates me. I'm not motivated by winning championships. I don't look at the beginning of the year and just say, hey, I want to win X amount of tournaments, I want to win whatever it is. I don't do that. I have dreams and aspirations that I think about, but at the end of the day, when I wake up to practice. I feel like what motivates me is just getting out and getting to live out my dream. I get to play professional golf, and I feel like I'm called to do it to the best of my ability." The knock on Scheffler early on was that he was too dull, too boring, too predictable to be a compelling figure. But winning, and winning by a lot, tends to build a few new levels onto the bandwagon. And Scheffler's philosophies on golf and winning and family are likely to get him a few more new fans, too. "He doesn't care to be a superstar. He's not transcending the game like Tiger did. He's not bringing it to a non-golf audience necessarily. He doesn't want to go do the stuff that a lot of us go do, corporately, anything like that," Jordan Spieth said on Sunday. "I think it's more so the difference in personality from any other superstar that you've seen in the modern era and maybe in any sport. I don't think anybody is like him." The Scottie Scheffler Express is rolling at full speed now. And there's a long way yet to go.

Trump's latest demand: Washington football and Cleveland baseball teams should change names backNew Foto - Trump's latest demand: Washington football and Cleveland baseball teams should change names back

CLEVELAND (AP) — PresidentDonald Trumpwants Washington's football franchise and Cleveland's baseball team to revert to their former names. Trump said Sunday on his Truth Social site that "The Washington 'Whatever's' should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!" Josh Harris, whose group bought the Commanders from former owner Dan Snyder in 2023,said earlier this yearthe name was here to stay. Not long after taking over, Harris quieted speculation about going back to Redskins, saying that would not happen. Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti indicated before Sunday's game against the Athletics that there weren't any plans to revisit the name change. "We understand there are different perspectives on the decision we made a few years ago, but obviously it's a decision we made. We've got the opportunity to build a brand as the Guardians over the last four years and are excited about the future that's in front of us," he said. Both teams have had their current names since the 2022 seasons. Washington dropped Redskins after the 2019 season and was known as the Washington Football Team for two yearsbefore moving to Commanders. Cleveland announced in December 2020 it would drop Indians. It announcedthe switch to Guardians in July 2021. In 2018, the team phased out "Chief Wahoo" as its primary logo. The name changes had their share of supporters and critics as part of national discussions about institutions and teams to drop logos and names considered racist. The Guardians are the fifth name for Cleveland's baseball franchise. It joined the American League in 1901 as one of the eight charter franchises as the Blues. It switched to the Bronchos a year later and used the Naps from 1903 through 1914 before moving to the Indians in 1915. Washington started in Boston as the Redskins in 1933 before moving to the nation's capital four years later. Washington and Cleveland share another thing in common. David Blitzer is a member of Harris' ownership group with the Commanders and holds a minority stake in the Guardians. ___ AP sports:https://apnews.com/sports

'Superman' flexes its might in second weekend with $57.3 millionNew Foto - 'Superman' flexes its might in second weekend with $57.3 million

NEW YORK (AP) —James Gunn's "Superman"showed staying power in its second weekend at North American box offices, collecting $57.3 million in ticket sales and remaining the No. 1 movie in cinemas, according to studio estimates Sunday. None of the week's new releases — "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Smurfs," and "Eddington" — came close to touching Warner Bros. and DC Studios'superhero success. "Superman" dipped 54% from its domestic opening, an average decline for a big summer film. In two weeks, "Superman" has grossed $406.8 million worldwide, a good start for the movie DC Studios is banking on to restart its movie operations. A big test looms next weekend, when the Walt Disney Co. releases Marvel's"The Fantastic Four: First Steps." Strong audience scores and good reviews should help propel the $225 million-budgeted "Superman" toward profitability in the coming weeks. For Warner Bros. and DC Studios, "Superman" is key to kicking off a 10-year plan for the comic book adaptation studio. Co-headsGunn and Peter Safrawere tasked with rehabilitating the flagging operation. Next on tap are the films "Supergirl" and "Clayface" in 2026. But "Superman" is far from flying solo in theaters right now. Universal Pictures'"Jurassic World: Rebirth"came in second this weekend, with $23.4 million in its third week of release. The seventh "Jurassic" movie, this one starring Scarlett Johansson, held its own despite the competition from "Superman." In three weeks, it accrued $648 million worldwide. Apple Studios and Warner Bros.'"F1: The Movie"has also shown legs, especially internationally. In its fourth weekend, the Brad Pitt racing drama dipped just 26% domestically, bringing in $9.6 million in North America, and another $29.5 million overseas. Its global total stands at $460.8 million. But both of the biggest new releases — Sony Pictures' "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Paramount Pictures' "Smurfs" — fell flat. "I Know What You Did Last Summer"opened with $13 million, a fair result for a movie budgeted at a modest $18 million, but a disappointing opening for a well-known horror franchise. The film, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is set 27 years after the 1997 original. Teenagers played by Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders are again haunted for covering up a car accident. The movie's reviews (38% "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes) were poor for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and audiences graded it similarly. The film notched a "C+" on CinemaScore. The original collected $72.6 million in its domestic run in 1997. Paramount Pictures'"Smurfs"debuted in fourth place this weekend with $11 million. The latest big-screen reboot for the woodland blue creatures prominently features Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette. But reviews (21% "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes) were terrible. Audiences were kinder, giving it a "B+" on CinemaScore, but the $58 million-budgeted release will depend largely on its international sales. In 56 overseas markets, "Smurfs" earned $22.6 million. Ari Aster's "Eddington"opened with $4.2 million on 2,111 screens for A24. Since itspremiere at the Cannes Film Festival, "Eddington" has beenparticularly divisive. The pandemic-set Western features Joaquin Phoenix as the right-wing sheriff of a small New Mexico town who faces off with its liberal mayor (Pedro Pascal). While Aster's first film, 2018's "Heredity" ($82.8 million worldwide against a $10 million budget) helped establish A24 as an indie powerhouse, but the less-than-stellar launch of "Eddington" marks the second box-office disappointment for Aster. The race to be the next executive director of the NFL Players Association is down to two men, according toThe Athletic. Either NFLPA chief strategy officer J.C. Tretter or chief player officer Don Davis are expected to lead the union following a tumultuous week that saw Lloyd Howell abruptly resign. A decision is expected by Tuesday, when 26 of the league's 32 teams are scheduled to report to training camp, per ESPN.Representatives from all 32 NFL teams were on a call Friday night to discuss the union's leadership future. Tretter is reportedly seen as the leader ahead of Davis in terms of support from the players. Whoever gets the job is not expected to end up in the role full time. While Tretter seemingly has the support, Russini also reported on Saturday that a group of players are discussing potential legal action against the NFLPA and Tretter, "citing potential violations around inclusion, labor rights, and misuse of union dues." A source on the NFLPA call with all 32 player reps said it was clear many players haven't been keeping up with union developments which led to a flurry of questions and catch-up conversations during the meeting and today. — Dianna Russini (@DMRussini)July 19, 2025 Howell, who led the NFLPA since 2023,resigned Thursday nightafter an outside investigator reportedly discovered Howell charged the union formultiple strip club visits, according to ESPN. ACC Kickoff: Bill Belichick and the top storylines this week in CharlotteNew Foto - ACC Kickoff: Bill Belichick and the top storylines this week in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE -- Talking season in college football continues this week with ACC Kickoff, and anticipation has never been higher because of a certain coach arriving in Chapel Hill. Every head coach and marquee players representing all 17 ACC football programs descend on Charlotte on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming 2025 football season. Here are three storylines to monitor during ACC Kickoff. --Bill Belichick's long-awaited debut The University of North Carolina has historically been a basketball school. But this offseason, the Tar Heels have been the talk of the college football universe since hiring legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick last December. Belichick, who turned 73 in April, is now a first-time college coach in Chapel Hill after winning six Super Bowls as head coach of the New England Patriots from 2000 through 2023. He replaces Mack Brown, who was fired to end his second stint as UNC head coach last November. It's been an interesting first offseason for Belichick, who has been in the news quite a bit with regard to his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson and her involvement with the UNC football program. However, he's also transformed the roster by bringing in 41 transfers, third-most of any Power-Four program. While ACC Kickoff can always be a bit of a media circus, Belichick's first appearance in Charlotte on Thursday should add a new level of buzz before his much-anticipated UNC coaching debut Sept. 1 vs. TCU. --Expectations renewed for Clemson entering 2025 For awhile there, Clemson winning the ACC Championship under Dabo Swinney felt like a bit of a foregorn conclusion. Swinney and the Tigers won six straight conference titles from 2015 through 2020 and a seventh in 2022, along with a pair of national titles in 2016 and 2018. And yet, when Clemson went 9-4 (4-4 in ACC) in 2023, people wondered if the Tigers' run of dominance under Swinney was coming to an end. Clemson quickly proved that doubt foolish last season, capping off a 9-3 regular season with the program's eighth ACC title in the last 10 years and an appearance in the first 12-team edition of the College Football Playoff. The Tigers now enter 2025 with high expectations once again drifting off their 2024 resurgence and the fact that many prominent players from that team return. Senior quarterback Cade Klubnik is back after amassing 3,639 passing yards, 463 rushing yards and 43 total touchdowns (36 passing, seven rushing) in 2024. On the other side of the ball, T.J. Parker Jr. and Peter Woods Jr. are set to anchor a defensive line that is expected to be among the best in the country. --How does SMU follow up its impressive ACC opening act? As conference realignment boomed over the last few years, quite a few teams that changed conferences struggled to adapt to the increased level of competition. That proved to be no problem for SMU, however. The Mustangs finished their first season in the ACC last fall with an 11-1 regular season and made appearances in the ACC Championship Game and College Football Playoff. That makes for a tough act to follow in SMU's second season in the ACC under head coach Rhett Lashlee. Starting quarterback Kevin Jennings is back this season after anchoring the Mustangs' undefeated season behind 3,245 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes. He's likely out for redemption after he threw three interceptions in SMU's 38-10 CFP loss at Penn State. The Mustangs will have to replace leading rushing Brashard Smith (1,332 yards, 14 rushing touchdowns in 2024) and standout defensive linemen Elijah Roberts and Jahfari Harvey, who combined for 15 sacks in 2024. --Field Level Media
