He's become one of the standout players on Steve Spagnuolo's defense with defensive tackle Chris Jones, middle linebacker Nick Bolton and cornerback Trent McDuffie. Karlaftis, 24, was already signed for one more season on his original rookie contract and the Chiefs had previously picked up his fifth-year option for 2026-27. CHICAGO (AP) — Wilyer Abreu homered twice and drove in three runs, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep. Alex Bregman also connected as Boston rallied after managing just one run in its first two games after the All-Star break. Garrett Crochet (11-4) pitched six effective innings in his fourth consecutive win. The Red Sox went ahead to stay when Trevor Story opened the seventh with a walk and Abreu hit a drive to right-center off Ryan Pressly (2-3) for his 19th homer. Bregman broke it open with a pinch-hit shot off Drew Pomeranz for a three-run homer in the eighth. Abreu tacked on a two-out solo drive against Ethan Roberts. It was Abreu's fourth multihomer game of the season and No. 5 for his career. He hit a total of 17 homers in his first two years in the majors. Boston improved to 12-3 in July. It had won 10 in a row going into the series. Chicago wasted a sharp performance by Cade Horton, who pitched 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball. The Cubs had won five of six. Crochet allowed eight hits in his first start since July 12. The All-Star left-hander struck out five and walked two. Chicago scored its only run in the second. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a leadoff double and Dansby Swanson followed with an infield single. After Crow-Armstrong was caught stealing third, Swanson raced home from second on Ian Happ's single to right. Key moment The Cubs threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with two down. But Crochet escaped the jam when he got Carson Kelly to bounce into a fielder's choice. Key stat The Red Sox improved to 13-14 against the Cubs since the start of interleague play in 1997. Marvel Plans to Recast the X-Men and (Eventually) Tony Stark After 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' But 'Reboot Is a Scary Word,' Says Kevin FeigeNew Foto - Marvel Plans to Recast the X-Men and (Eventually) Tony Stark After 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' But 'Reboot Is a Scary Word,' Says Kevin Feige

The all-new X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and an all-new Tony Stark will (eventually) join them. In a wide-ranging conversation with press on Friday, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that, following the events of 2027's "Avengers: Secret Wars," the company will recast the super-powered mutants for its upcoming "X-Men" movie directed by Jake Schreier ("Thunderbolts*"). More from Variety John Malkovich's Red Ghost Cut From 'Fantastic Four'; Director Says 'It Was Heartbreaking Not to Include Him' (EXCLUSIVE) 'Fantastic Four,' Assemble: Director Matt Shakman on Casting Marvel's First Family Without Auditions and 'Corporate Pressures' Not Being 'My Burden to Shoulder' Tom Holland Says 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Will Go Back to 'Old School Filmmaking and Shoot in Real Locations' After COVID Restricted 'No Way Home' to Soundstages Many of the actors who starred in the "X-Men" movies of the 2000s and 2010s are reprising those roles in 2026's "Avengers: Doomsday," including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer. Stewart also played Charles Xavier in 2022's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," and Grammer appeared as Hank McCoy in a post-credits scene in 2023's "The Marvels." In future films, however, X-Men characters who appeared in previous movies will be played by new actors, along with mutants making their big screen debut. The decision echoes changes in the composition of the Marvel comics following the 2015 "Secret Wars" storyline, which involved multiple timelines collapsing and re-converging, mixing up the characters of the main Marvel timeline in the process. "We're utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we've been telling post-'Endgame,' just as importantly — and you can look at the at the 'Secret Wars' comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future," Feige said. "'Endgame,' literally, was about endings. 'Secret Wars' is about is about beginnings." But Feige was also careful not to characterize the changes as a "reboot"; instead, the executive said "Secret Wars" will serve as a "reset" for the MCU. "Reboot is a scary word," he said. "Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we're thinking along those lines." Later, he added, "'X-Men' is where that will happen next." Feige noted that the X-Men comics, with their focus on Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, naturally centered on stories about adolescent characters. "They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don't belong," he said. "That's the universal story of mutants, and that is where we're going." Even more intriguingly, Feige also indicated that other Marvel characters will eventually be recast, including its most iconic roles, like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. He pointed to many other major film franchises that have done the same thing, multiple times over. "Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond," Feige said, referring to the producers of Amazon MGM's upcoming Bond film. "David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case." Feige acknowledged that stars who've retired their original MCU roles like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have made it difficult to imagine anyone else in their characters' shoes. But it isn't an impossible task. "I think it's hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role," he said. "How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?" At least two legacy actors may still yet appear in the MCU, as well. Asked about his plans for a follow-up to Marvel's 2024 blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine" with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Feige, in typical fashion, made no definitive statements, but also did not close off any possibilities. "I think there is more fun to be had with both of those characters," he said. "But we'll see where." The Moon Mammoths were welcomed to Minor League Baseball on Saturday night with the Erie, Pennsylvania Double-A affiliate of theDetroit Tigersrebranding for four games this season. The Erie Seawolves were chosen by comedian John Oliver and the staff of his HBO program "Last Week Tonight" from among 47 teams who submitted pitches after the late-night host praised the goofy spirit of minor league baseball and wanted to contribute in some manner. Oliver threw out the first pitch forSaturday's gameversus the Chesapeake Baysox. He was also a celebrity bat boy and PA announcer, sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" andsat in with the broadcast team. Additionally, Oliver presented a race between mascots Fuzz E. (By the way, the Baysox have their own alternate brand identityas the Oyster Catchers.) Erie was chosen afteran email listing 11 reasonswhy the team should be chosen, including "The SeaWolves play baseball nowhere near the sea" and "We have the least creatively named mascot in MiLB. His name is C. Wolf. Seriously." Per Oliver's conditions, the Seawolves had to unconditionally accept the rebranding proposal, with no input in the name, mascot or theme night to be created. JOHN OLIVER: "[Minor League Baseball] is one of the great things that America has."🫡pic.twitter.com/x983ZLtsYi — Minor League Baseball (@MiLB)July 19, 2025 Why the "Moon Mammoths?" Oliver and his staff wanted to create a brand identity that somehow told some of Erie's history to set it apart from other minor league baseball cities. "Erie did stand out to us as being, you know, uniquely eccentric. And I say that as both a compliment and an insult, which is the biggest compliment there is," Oliver said, via the Associated Press. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Last Week Tonight (@lastweektonight) The Seawolves have previously held humorous theme nights including "Alternative Facts Night" in 2017, during which the team celebrated the 2016 championship that it never actually won. Currently, the team boasts four of the Tigers'top minor-league prospectson its roster, including 2023 first-round pick Max Clark. The Moon Mammoths were inspiredby George Moon, who found a bone measuring three feet long while scuba diving in Erie County's Lake Pleasant in 1991. The bone was discovered to be the shoulder blade of a prehistoric mammoth. Subsequent dives after Moon's find recovered 80 percent of the creature's skeleton, including both of its tusks. It is great for the community, for the ballpark, for everybody around." The Seawolves will play three more games as the Moon Mammoths on Aug. 19, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13. After that, it's up to the team to decide whether or not to keep the mascot that Oliver referred to as "our furry child."

Robert Okine/Getty Chris Martinissued a playful warning to concertgoers during Coldplay's latest show, following the viral kiss cam drama that stemmed from the band's prior concert earlier in the week. On Saturday, July 19, the 48-year-old singer and his band performed at the Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. The outing marked Coldplay's first Music of the Spheres World Tour performance since the band's stint at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Wednesday, July 16, when a man and a woman went viral for theirreaction to being spottedtogether on camera. During Coldplay's July 19 show, Martin made sure to give the on-camera portion of the performance an introduction. "We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd," Martin said, as his audience erupted in cheers, per a fan-recordedclip. "How we're gonna do that is we're gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen." After another grin, the "Yellow" musician gave fans a cheeky warning: "So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now." Ethan Miller/Getty The Coldplay fan who posted the show footage later wrote onXthat "zero couples" were shown on the venue's jumbotron during the portion of the show. During the viral moment from earlier in the week, a man and a woman — who were not identified at the show — reacted after they were seen together on the large screens in the stadium. Martin poked fun at the moment in real-time, stating, "Oh, look at these two. All right, c'mon. You're okay." "Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," he then added. The Guardianreported that Martin also attempted to address what went down later in the performance. "Holy s---," he reportedly told the crowd. "I hope we didn't do something bad." After the clip went viral, and the identities of the man and the woman seen in the video were questioned, it was determined that Andy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, was involved. The tech company initially wrote on LinkedIn that its board "initiated a formal investigation" and would "have additional details to share very shortly," reiterating that its "leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability." It did not explicitly confirm the identities of anybody in the video at the time. Byron later resigned from his position at the company, with Astronomer announcing the move on July 19 via astatement on X. The company wrote that Byron had "tendered his resignation" and the board of directors "accepted" it. "As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding," Astronomer's statement continued. "Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met." "The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO," the statement added. "Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI. While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not," concluded the statement. "We're continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems." Citing a source, Axiosreportedthat the company's public response was delayed "due in part to Byron's slow resignation and exit package negotiations." The company's spokesperson had no comment on the Axios story when reached by PEOPLE. Byron has not responded to separate messages seeking comment, and efforts to reach the woman in the footage were previously unsuccessful. Coldplay isnext set to performat Nashville's Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, July 22. Later performances will bring the band to Miami, London and beyond through early September. British Open: Scottie Scheffler is becoming a golfing legendNew Foto - British Open: Scottie Scheffler is becoming a golfing legend

There are major tournaments that only begin on the back nine on Sunday. There are major tournaments that come down to the final putts on the 72nd hole. And then there's the 2025 British Open, which was pretty much over the moment Scottie Scheffler's plane touched down in Northern Ireland. Scheffler won the 2025 British Open at Royal Portrush on Sunday. But that sentence, while factual on its face, doesn't even touch the level of dominance Scheffler exhibited throughout the entire week. This technically wasn't a wire-to-wire win — Scheffler was one stroke off the lead after the first round — but it sure felt that way. Sunday wasn't even a fair fight. Scheffler entered the day four strokes ahead of the field — and his two closest pursuers were a guy who had played in just two majors since 2020, and a guy who hadn't won a tournament in nearly two years. Scheffler didn't waste any time snuffing out hopes on Sunday. He birdied his first hole and three of his first five to extend his lead over the field to a full touchdown. Only one hole on the front nine gave him any trouble, and he quickly erased a double-bogey on the 8th with birdies on the 9th and 12th. From there, he cruised to victory without a single serious challenge. He finished at 17-under, four shots ahead of runner-up Harris English. "This was a tough week. It was challenging. The golf course was playing really tough, and I had to focus very hard over the course of the weekend," Scheffler said shortly after hoisting the Claret Jug. "Really the only blemish over the last 36 holes was the double on 8, but did a good job of resetting and coming back with a birdie on 9." The winning putt. This is the one.pic.twitter.com/uZd6bhtkNF — The Open (@TheOpen)July 20, 2025 With the British Open over early, and the 2025 major season now over entirely, it's worth starting the conversation: Where does Scottie Scheffler rank right this moment among golf's all-time legends, and how much higher can he climb? There's only one player in this generation who can mount any kind of a challenge to Scheffler's domination … and Scheffler simply walked into his house and looted the place. The galleries at Royal Portrush tried to rally Rory McIlroy, the hometown kid, from the dunes to the sea. But McIlroy, like everyone else, was up against a generational opponent. normal sportpic.twitter.com/KkrVWDCeqz — Kyle Porter (@KylePorterNS)July 20, 2025 Were it not for Scheffler's parents meeting all those years ago, this absolutely would have been Rory McIlroy's tournament to lose. McIlroy embarrassed himself six years ago at The Open's return to Northern Ireland; he hit his first shot out of bounds and missed the cut entirely. Since then he's won just one major, but it was a big one — the 2025 Masters, the one tournament McIlroy has chased forever. He struggled in his first two majors after that Masters win, playing well below his capabilities, but found some steadiness and solace in himself this week. "It's almost a celebration of what I've been able to accomplish," McIlroy said Saturday night, speaking of the reception he received this week. "I want to celebrate with them, too. I've just really tried to embrace everything this week. I'm having an incredible time. I'm really enjoying myself." He wasn't able to summon up any real momentum on Sunday, two double-bogeys dragging down his score, but he appears to have shaken off whatever doldrums dogged him after Augusta. "None of us could hang with Scottie this week," McIlroy said afterward. "He's an incredible player. He's been dominant this week. Honestly, he's been dominant for the last couple years. He is the bar that we're all trying to get to. In a historical context, you could argue that there's only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie's been on here for the last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive." Worth noting, in the current context: McIlroy ended that 11-year quest to achieve the career grand slam earlier this year. Eleven months from now, Scheffler will be at the U.S. Open, in position to claim a career grand slam of his own. Sure, there were other good stories in the field. Bryson DeChambeau figured out links golf in real time, starting Thursday with a 7-over round that had him four strokes ahead of last place … and then, over the next three days, fighting his way all the way up to 9-under. English (-13), Chris Gotterup (-12), Haotong Li (-11), Wyndham Clark (-11) and Matt Fitzpatrick (-11) all had unexpected moments of brilliance. But since golf doesn't do podium finishes, all were fighting for, at best, a yellow top-10 square on their Wikipedia page, nothing more. Aside from the fact that he's, you know, the No. 1 player in the world, we probably should have known earlier that this was Scottie's week. Each major week begins with a series of press conferences where the game's most prominent players take a few minutes in front of the media to answer questions about either the state of their game or the current topic of the week (PGA Tour vs. LIV, slow play, golf ball rollback, et cetera). Most often, these are pro forma affairs, producing a few aggregation-worthy news nuggets but little of real substance. Scheffler has been as guilty as any player of going through the motions at these events, keeping his head down and just getting through the litany of questions. But for whatever reason, he decided on Tuesdayto hold forth on the cost of victory, and what golf means to him in the context of his own life. "To get to live out your dreams is very special, but at the end of the day, I'm not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers," he said. "I'm not out here to inspire someone to be the best player in the world because what's the point? This is not a fulfilling life. It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart." Were this any other player, we'd be thinking the guy didn't have the killer instinct necessary to win at the elite level. Since it's Scheffler, and we've seen him win at this level over and over, the effect is more revelatory — you don't have to present as a complete psychopath to be a winner. So now, with four majors in the bag, four trophies — well, two trophies and two green jackets — in hand, Scheffler has entered the conversation of all-time greats. (Wild fact: It took 1,197 days from Tiger Woods' first major to his fourth; it took Scheffler ... 1,197 days from his first major to his fourth.) No, he's nowhere near Tiger and Jack Nicklaus. He's not in the class of Arnold Palmer or Gary Player just yet. Golf's pantheon rewards not just numerical excellence, but sustained greatness, and for all of Scheffler's achievements, he only won his firsttournamentbarely three years ago. (Perspective: He won that first tournament on the same day as the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.) Still, there are only 21 men in golf history who have won more majors than Scheffler's four. He's 29 years old and playing golf not just at an elite level, but a sustainable one. Given the depth and breadth of talent in the world today, it's unlikely Scheffler will be able to get to Woods' 15 and Nicklaus' 18 majors, but could he pass Palmer's seven, Watson's eight, Gary Player's nine? It's always treacherous to speak in absolutes when it comes to golf, but in this case … absolutely. "I don't think we thought the golfing world would see someone as dominant as Tiger come through so soon, and here's Scottie sort of taking that throne of dominance," Xander Schauffele said Sunday after his round. "You can't even say he's on a run. He's just been killing it for over two years now. He's a tough man to beat, and when you see his name up on the leaderboard, it sucks for us." Scheffler dismissed comparisons with icons like Woods as "silly." "Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth," he said Sunday. "I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf ... I don't focus on that kind of stuff. That's not what motivates me. I'm not motivated by winning championships. I don't look at the beginning of the year and just say, hey, I want to win X amount of tournaments, I want to win whatever it is. I don't do that. I have dreams and aspirations that I think about, but at the end of the day, when I wake up to practice. I feel like what motivates me is just getting out and getting to live out my dream. I get to play professional golf, and I feel like I'm called to do it to the best of my ability." The knock on Scheffler early on was that he was too dull, too boring, too predictable to be a compelling figure. But winning, and winning by a lot, tends to build a few new levels onto the bandwagon. And Scheffler's philosophies on golf and winning and family are likely to get him a few more new fans, too. "He doesn't care to be a superstar. He's not transcending the game like Tiger did. He's not bringing it to a non-golf audience necessarily. He doesn't want to go do the stuff that a lot of us go do, corporately, anything like that," Jordan Spieth said on Sunday. "I think it's more so the difference in personality from any other superstar that you've seen in the modern era and maybe in any sport. I don't think anybody is like him." The Scottie Scheffler Express is rolling at full speed now. And there's a long way yet to go.

Trump's latest demand: Washington football and Cleveland baseball teams should change names backNew Foto - Trump's latest demand: Washington football and Cleveland baseball teams should change names back

CLEVELAND (AP) — PresidentDonald Trumpwants Washington's football franchise and Cleveland's baseball team to revert to their former names. Trump said Sunday on his Truth Social site that "The Washington 'Whatever's' should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!" Josh Harris, whose group bought the Commanders from former owner Dan Snyder in 2023,said earlier this yearthe name was here to stay. Not long after taking over, Harris quieted speculation about going back to Redskins, saying that would not happen. Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti indicated before Sunday's game against the Athletics that there weren't any plans to revisit the name change. "We understand there are different perspectives on the decision we made a few years ago, but obviously it's a decision we made. We've got the opportunity to build a brand as the Guardians over the last four years and are excited about the future that's in front of us," he said. Both teams have had their current names since the 2022 seasons. Washington dropped Redskins after the 2019 season and was known as the Washington Football Team for two yearsbefore moving to Commanders. Cleveland announced in December 2020 it would drop Indians. It announcedthe switch to Guardians in July 2021. In 2018, the team phased out "Chief Wahoo" as its primary logo. The name changes had their share of supporters and critics as part of national discussions about institutions and teams to drop logos and names considered racist. The Guardians are the fifth name for Cleveland's baseball franchise. It joined the American League in 1901 as one of the eight charter franchises as the Blues. It switched to the Bronchos a year later and used the Naps from 1903 through 1914 before moving to the Indians in 1915. Washington started in Boston as the Redskins in 1933 before moving to the nation's capital four years later. Washington and Cleveland share another thing in common. David Blitzer is a member of Harris' ownership group with the Commanders and holds a minority stake in the Guardians. ___ AP sports:https://apnews.com/sports
