A UFC fight at the White House? Dana White says it's happening as part of deal with ParamountNew Foto - A UFC fight at the White House? Dana White says it's happening as part of deal with Paramount

Hours after Paramount and UFC announced abillion-dollar rights deal,Dana White said he had yet to hear from his friend,President Donald Trump, on his thoughts about the fight company's new streaming home. That was fine with White. The UFC CEO was set to travel to Washington on Aug. 28 to meet with Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to catch up and discuss logistics on the proposed Fourth of July fight card next year at the White House. Trump said last month he wanted to stage a UFC match on the White House grounds with upwards of 20,000 spectators to celebrate 250 years of American independence. "It's absolutely going to happen," White told The Associated Press. "Think about that, the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the UFC will be on the White House south lawn live on CBS." The idea of cage fights at the White House would have seemed improbable when the Frittata brothers purchased UFC for $2 million in 2001 and put White in charge of the fledging fight promotion. White helped steer the company into a $4 billion sale in 2016 and broadcast rights deals with Fox and ESPN before landing owner TKO Group's richest one yet — a seven-year deal with Paramount starting in 2026 worth an average of $1.1 billion a year, with all cards on its streaming platform Paramount+ and select numbered events also set to simulcast on CBS. ESPN, Amazon and Netflix and other traditional sports broadcast players seemed more in play for UFC rights — White had previously hinted fights could air across different platforms — but Paramount was a serious contender from the start of the negotiating window. The Paramount and UFC deal came just days afterSkydanceand Paramount officially closedtheir $8 billion merger— kicking off the reign of a new entertainment giant after a contentious endeavor to get the transaction over the finish line. White said he was impressed with the vision Skydance CEO David Ellison had for the the global MMA leader early in contract talks and how those plans should blossom now that Ellison is chairman and CEO of Paramount. "When you talk about Paramount, you talk about David Ellison, they're brilliant businessmen, very aggressive, risk takers," White said. "They're right up my alley. These are the kind of guys that I like to be in business with." The $1.1 billion deals marks a notable jump from the roughly $550 million that ESPN paid each year for UFC coverage today. But UFC's new home on Paramount will simplify offerings for fans — with all content set to be available on Paramount+ (which currently costs between $7.99 and $12.99 a month), rather than various pay-per-view fees. Paramount also said it intends to explore UFC rights outside the U.S. "as they become available in the future." UFC matchmakers were set to meet this week to shape what White said would be a loaded debut Paramount card. The UFC boss noted it was still too early to discuss a potential main event for the White House fight night. "This is a 1-of-1 event," White said. There are still some moving parts to UFC broadcasts and other television programming it has its hands in as the company moves into the Paramount era. White said there are still moving parts to the deal and that includes potentially finding new homes for "The Ultimate Fighter," "Road To UFC," and "Dana White's Contender Series." It's not necessarily a given the traditional 10 p.m. start time for what were the pay-per-view events would stand, especially on nights cards will also air on CBS. "We haven't figured that out yet but we will," White said. And what about the sometimes-contentious issue of fighter pay? Some established fighters have clauses in their contracts that they earn more money the higher the buyrate on their cards. Again, most of those issues are to-be-determined as UFC and Paramount settle in to the new deal — with $1.1 billion headed the fight company's way. "It will affect fighter pay, big time," White said. "From deal-to-deal, fighter pay has grown, too. Every time we win, everybody wins." Boxer Jake Paul wrote on social media the dying PPV model — which was overpriced for fights as UFC saw adecline in buysbecause of missing star power in many main events — should give the fighters an increased idea of their worth. "Every fighter in the UFC now has a clear picture of what the revenue is...no more PPV excuses,"Paul wrote. "Get your worth boys and girls." White also scoffed at the idea that the traditional PPV model is dead. There are still UFC cards on pay-per-view the rest of the year through the end of the ESPN contract and White and Saudi Arabia have teamed tolaunch a new boxing venturethat starts next year and could use a PPV home. White, though, is part of the promotional team for the Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford fight in September in Las Vegas that airs on Netflix. "It's definitely not run it's course," White said. "There were guys out there who were interested in pay-per-view and there were guys out there that weren't. Wherever we ended up, that's what we're going to roll with." White said UFC archival footage "kills it" in repeat views and those classic bouts also needed a new home once the ESPN deal expires. Just when it seems there's little left for UFC to conquer, White says, there's always more. Why stop at becoming the biggest fight game in the world? Why not rewrite the pecking order in popularity and riches and go for No. 1 in all sports? "You have the NFL, the NBA, the UFC, and soccer globally," White said. "We're coming. We're coming for all of them." ___ AP sports:https://apnews.com/sports

Why "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert "isn't on this week — and when it returns amid cancellation

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS Summer break has commenced in the late night circuit. WhileThe Late Show With Stephen Colbertwill continue to air this week on CBS, the episodes will be a mix of reruns from earlier this year. The show is currently on its summertime hiatus, customary among the late night circuit as the hosts take some time off.Jimmy Kimmel, for example, employs guest hosts during his hiatus, while others like Colbert andJimmy Fallonopt for reruns. But have no fear, all-new episodes return on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Until then, reruns this week include guestsGeorge ClooneyandAlan Ritchsonon Monday;David Oyelowo,Finn Wolfhard, andAlan Cummingon Tuesday; senatorBernie Sanderson Wednesday; fellow late night hostJohn Oliveron Thursday; andBad BunnyandLeanne Morganon Friday. Scott Kowalchyk/CBS CBS announced last month that itwould not just be ending Colbert's runon the network but retiring the venerableLate Showfranchise as a whole after the 2025-26 broadcast season, calling the divisive decision a "purely financial" one "against a challenging backdrop in late night." The network insisted the move was "not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at [CBS parent company] Paramount." But lawmakers and unions have questioned the timing of Colbert's ouster given Paramount's recent settlement with President Donald Trump regarding a60 Minutessegment with Kamala Harris, which vocal Trump criticColbert had criticized as a "big fat bribe"prior to the show's shock cancellation. Trump reveled in the cancellation, writing on social media that he "absolutely loves" that Colbert will soon be off air and stating that the comedian's "talent was even less than his ratings." (Colbert's rebuttal? "Go f--- yourself.") Since the cancellation announcement, Colbert has continued to double down on his eviscerations of the administration, mocking Vice President JD Vance in his final monologue before the summer hiatus on Thursday, Aug. 7. Aptly thinking ahead,Colbert also used the monologue to court Netflixand perhaps even Amazon for a new job once he concludes his late night gig in May 2026. "Netflix, call me. I'm available in June," he quipped, later adding,  "I will also entertain offers from Amazon." Sign up forEntertainment Weekly'sfree daily newsletterto get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more. His guests for the Aug. 7 episode included Alex Padilla, the Democratic senator from California who was referred to as "José" by Vance following his detainment for inquiring about the administration's mass deportation tactics. "He knows my name,"Padilla said of the moment to Colbert. "But if he wants to try and mock and attack me by calling me José, I'll tell you this: I'm proud to be a José. This administration will use José and Maria to try to villainize immigrants, and it's wrong." "So to all the Josés and Marias out there who are contributing to the economy, working hard, building communities," Padilla added, "we're going to continue to stand up and rise up." Turang's leadoff homer lifts Brewers over Pirates for 10th straight winNew Foto - Turang's leadoff homer lifts Brewers over Pirates for 10th straight win

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brice Turang hit his first career leadoff home run, Jose Quintana allowed three hits over six solid innings and the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. Quintana (10-4) struck out three and walked one as the Brewers (74-44) improved to 25-4 over the last 29 games, including 13-1 in the last 14. The only real hiccup was Joey Bart's home run in the third. Turang sent a sinker from Pirates starter Andrew Heaney over the wall in left center. Christian Yelich opened the third with a solo home run, RBI singles from Sal Frelick and Brandon Lockridge and an unearned run on Bart's throwing error capped the third inning. Grant Anderson held the Pirates without a hit in the seventh and eighth. Shelby Miller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Heaney (5-10) allowed six runs — five earned — on nine hits in four innings. Quintana and Freddy Peralta switched spots for the Pirates series. The move gives Peralta another day of rest but also lines him up for the Cubs series next week in Chicago. Chase Shugart, activated from the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation before the game, allowed one run on two hits over three innings. The Pirates optioned RHP Dauri Moreta to Triple-A Indianapolis. Key moment Yelich's 22nd home run of the season highlighted the Brewers' third. Key stat Quintana, 36, made his 351st start since his rookie season with the Chicago White Sox in 2012, fifth most on the active list. Up next RHP Paul Skenes (7-8, 1.94 ERA) starts for the Pirates against Peralta (13-5, 3.03) and the Brewers. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

'This is the guy': Patriots took TreVeyon Henderson for talent rather than top need — and early returns support thatNew Foto - 'This is the guy': Patriots took TreVeyon Henderson for talent rather than top need — and early returns support that

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — In a quiet moment before the second day of the2025 NFL Draft, Eliot Wolf sat down to review his three favorite players still on the board. TheNew England Patriotsvice president of player personnel pulled up a reel of 100 or so carries Ohio State running backTreVeyon Hendersonhad attempted against what Wolf considered "good" teams. Wolf didn't make it through all 100. "I watched 15 runs and I was like, 'What am I doing? This is the guy,'" Wolf told Yahoo Sports on Sunday. "We have way bigger needs than running back and still do. But it was just an opportunity to get a weapon potentially there in the second round." [Subscribe to Yahoo Fantasy Plus and get premium draft tools and player projections] The Patriots selected Henderson with the 38th overall pick. On the first play of their preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Friday, he reminded them why. Henderson fielded the game's kickoff at the goal line before racing up the left side of the field. He sped past the first oncoming defenders near the Patriots' 20, leaving at least three Commanders sprawled before he hit the 50 and completed his flight path. As 12 seconds ticked off the game clock, Henderson arrived in the end zone for a 100-yard return touchdown. TREVEYON HENDERSON TOOK THE KICKOFF ALL THE WAY BACK 🔥(via@Patriots)pic.twitter.com/f9ReYUBWVY — Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports)August 8, 2025 "Those home run-hitting backs, that's huge," Patriots centerGarrett Bradburytold Yahoo Sports. "I think that's demoralizing for a defense when you can break a 60-yard run, 70-yard run, which he has the capability. "Give him a little space and it's gone." Head coach Mike Vrabel considered the field position advantage that could follow. "Teams are going to put the ball in play, and if they don't and if they're like, 'Well, these guys are going to hit an explosive, then we're just going to give it to 'em at the 35,'" Vrabel told Yahoo Sports. "So that's good for us either way if we can make that a weapon." Henderson also chipped in with 12 yards on three catches and 18 yards on a rush in thePatriots' 48-18 preseason win. Coaches and teammates praised his speed, explosiveness and versatility, Henderson's physicality also evident to them in run finishes and pass protection. The production wasn't shocking after Henderson's 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns from scrimmage in Ohio State's 2024 season championship run. Henderson's explosiveness was evident with his Big Ten-best 7.1 yards per carry. But demonstrating that ability at the pro level, even in the preseason, checked another box for the Patriots. Their suspicion: He'll be a problem for opponents. "He's at times a matchup nightmare against what they call the combo skill, the big skill, which is the linebackers and the safeties, because he can run some pretty good routes as a running back, but he's explosive," inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr told Yahoo Sports. "It's a tough down when you go against him isolated, one on one." Henderson is turning heads in New England, but he's not the only one. Here are two more takeaways from Yahoo Sports' visit to Patriots training camp: Patriots brass aren't openly expressing concerns about 2024 third overall pickDrake Maye's ability to handle a new offense under coordinator Josh McDaniels. But no one's denying how much will be on Maye's plate. Veterans and coaching assistants coming from other offenses noted McDaniels' offense asks of them a different level of pre-snap responsibilities. Quarterbacks coach Ashton Grant joined the Patriots this offseason from theCleveland Browns, Bradbury from theMinnesota Vikingsand backup QBJosh Dobbsmost recently from theSan Francisco 49ers. All noted the upswing in quarterback autonomy. "The responsibility of the quarterback is completely different," Grant told Yahoo Sports. "In previous place, it's been kind of a joint venture between the offensive line and the quarterback. Here we like to say the quarterback sets the table and then everyone adjusts off of that." [Get more Patriots news: New England team feed] McDaniels asks the quarterback, rather than the center, to identify the middle linebacker with the goal of ensuring the quarterback understands what his protection is doing. Bradbury might get his line into the call that Maye requests. But "the quarterbacks has the final say in everything," Bradbury told Yahoo Sports. "First and final say." Cadence changes, hard counts or other adjustments to account for a zero blitz or especially quick-getoff defensive linemen begin with Maye. Wolf points toMac Jones' rookie year as proof that McDaniels' system can support rather than confuse a QB. A quarterback will be asked to do and understand more to align his teammates — but Grant sees that as a benefit. "I think it actually provides clarity for younger quarterbacks because you teach them the issues and then you give them control so that way they know where they're protected, where they're not," Grant said. "There's no question of if they're on different pages. So it kind of gives the quarterback a little bit of comfort." The speculation about Vrabel replacing 2024 head coach Jerod Mayo was so strong that it's easy to forget how long it's been since Vrabel was actually last in New England. Yes, the 14-year NFL linebacker played for the Patriots from 2001-2008, including his 2007 All-Pro campaign. But this isn't a repeat of Mayo taking the head job as a promotion from the Patriots coaching staff. Vrabel's decade of NFL coaching never included a stop on Bill Belichick's staff. He joined theHouston Texansafter three years at Ohio State, rising to Texans defensive coordinator before six seasons as theTennessee Titans' head coach. Vrabel spent last year consulting with theCleveland Brownsbefore the Patriots hired him to the helm. So Vrabel is bringing a new flavor to the Patriots even if he learned from their longtime flavor. Expect toughness, physicality, high effort and strong fundamentals. Think: The Patriots practiced in pads Sunday despite playing in a preseason game Friday night. Violence (within the accepted realms of professional football) will be encouraged. "Attacking, disruption, speed and violence," Wolf described his personnel search. "We want to be running to the ball, effort and finish, be violent," Kuhr added. "Unwavering violence and really just kind of want to strike fear into the opponent and kind of just put your will onto them." Wolf credited Vrabel as a head coach who "was able to get more out of less at times on the roster," as he elevated the Titans. Wolf joined players and coaches as impressed with Vrabel's level of accountability and attention to detail. The Patriots may need time to augment the collection in the talent cupboard and build a winning program. But their identity should be evident imminently. "Urgency, effort and attention to detail," Wolf said. "Guys have kind of stepped forward this year so far and have a chance to make the team."

Entertainment Weeklyreported that Nayyar, who starred inThe Big Bang Theoryfor its entire 12-season run, said he didn't like how his character dressed in an August 2025 interview onThe Official Big Bang Theorypodcast. As fans are aware, Raj liked wearing collared shirts under sweater vests and a jacket. He also often sported cargo pants and tennis shoes. According to Nayyar, he wasn't happy when he first saw Raj's outfits. "I was like, 'Oh man, I'm gonna have to wear this?' I love fashion, to be honest. It's one of my favorite things. And then I was like, 'Oh my God, I'm gonna have to wear these clothes,'" said Nayyar. The actor clarified he understood Raj's costuming. "It's very apropos to the character, obviously. If you watch what I wore that entire show, it's ridiculously hideous, but also ridiculously good for the character," said Nayyar during the podcast interview. He said, however, that Raj's clothes negatively affected his appreciation for fashion. "Me, as Kunal, having to wear those clothes every day, those cargo pants — you know, it's ruined for me. I can't wear clothes — like vintage Gucci sweaters or something that look like Raj's sweaters that are in fashion now. I can't wear that stuff," said Nayyar. Nayyar spoke about Raj's costuming in a September 2017 interview withHeyUGuys. He said he respected the choices the show's costume designer, Mary T. Quigley, made for Raj. "Mary does our costumes and she's phenomenal," said Nayyar. The actor also said there's a reason Raj tends to wear layers. "The discussion was because Raj has social anxiety, he always likes to protect himself. And that's why he wears a lot of layers," said Nayyar in the 2017 interview. During the HeyUGuys interview, Nayyar got candid about playing Raj since 2007. He said that he felt he didn't give his best performances until the show's third season, which began airing in 2009. "I look back and I say, 'Wow I can really see in the beginning that I was trying so hard.' I was trying so hard," said the 44-year-old. "I can look at my performances and say I really wanted every joke to work. I really wanted every moment to work. And I can really see myself just pushing. Sean "Diddy" Combsis escalating his legal battleagainst one of his accusers and the news outletthat helped publicize his claims. Combs, whosued Courtney Burgess in Januaryfor $50 million on allegations of defamation, amended his complaint against the man in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 11, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. Burgess' attorney, Ariel Mitchell, and news broadcaster NewsNation are also named as defendants in the lawsuit. The Grammy-winning rapper is now seeking additional compensation, no less than $100 million in damages, for the "severe reputational harm" caused by Burgess' "outlandish claims," which Combs' attorneys allege culminated in a "media frenzy" against the embattled hip-hop mogul. "In this pitiful spectacle, all pretense of objectivity has been abandoned, as a global audience feasts at the all-you-can-eat buffet of wild lies and conspiracy theories," the lawsuit states. "Mitchell and Burgess are among the worst perpetrators in this offensive scenario. "They eagerly court every opportunity to broadcast blatant falsehoods, pretending they have proof that Mr. Combs engaged in heinous acts, knowing that no such proof exists," Combs' team alleges. Combs and his attorneys also accuse NewsNation, in its coverage of Burgess' claims, of "lend(ing) its credibility to and amplify(ing) defendant Burgess and Mitchell's lies, giving them a mainstream media platform to malign (Combs) for defendants' collective profit." USA TODAY has reached out to Mitchell and NewsNation for comment. In anOctober 2024 interviewaired by NewsNation, Burgess and Mitchell alleged that the man, who reportedly at one point testified in front of a grand jury for Combs' federal criminal case, possessed several videos purportedly showing Combs sexually assaulting minors, including celebrities, at his "freak off" sex parties. At the time of his original lawsuit in January, Combs, who was awaiting trial in his landmark sex crimes case, sought $50 million in damages for Burgess and Mitchell's claims. The disgraced music mogul said the pair's remarks about "freak off" footage had the potential to "poison the minds" of people who might serve on Combs' jury. Diddy takes legal action:Rap mogul files $50M defamation lawsuit over alleged sex assault videos Combs was arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. In July, the rapper wasfound guilty on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitutionand acquitted of the remaining offenses. The rapper, who remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, wasdenied bail on Aug. 4after his legal team requested he be released on a $50 million bond. In addition to their allegations about Burgess and Mitchell's claims, Combs and his legal team also accused Mitchell of spreading "false statements" about the rapper in another case involving a woman who alleged Combs sexually assaulted her in Northern California in March 2018. Mitchell reportedly discussed the case in a NewsNation interview that aired in September 2024, claiming there was a police report that confirmed the woman's assault allegations. However, Combs' lawyers claimed in the lawsuit that the actual police report of the alleged incident did not identify Combs and "thoroughly discredited" the woman's claims against Combs. Ina March 10 statement to USA TODAY, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department said: "A report was taken on March 23, 2018. We take these cases seriously, and detectives thoroughly investigated the accusations. It was later determined the claims were unfounded." The attorneys added that NewsNation "knew or recklessly disregarded" the purported lack of credibility of Mitchell's account. Further questioning NewsNation's relationship with Mitchell, Combs' attorneys cited several alleged ethics violations Mitchell has faced as a Florida-based attorney, including allegations of bribery and false statements to the media. "Defendants made these false and defamatory statements in bad faith, as part of a deliberate effort to damage Mr. Combs' reputation, undermine his businesses and, by painting him as debauched and a pedophile, to poison the public's perception of him and deprive him of a fair trial." Matthew Staffordwill be back (pun intended). It's not time to be concerned…yet. "I think the fair answer is, I'm going to take it a day at a time as well,"Los Angeles Ramscoach Sean McVay answered on Monday, Aug. 11 when asked if he was concerned about Stafford's back ailment. "I can't be 27 days from now in Houston." It's fair to raise an eyebrow about Stafford's aggravated disk in his back that's caused him to miss training camp. The veteran quarterback was supposed to practice in some capacity on Monday after a throwing session on Saturday, buthe didn't "feel great" following the workout. "I feel for Matthew because of how much he wants to be out there and feel good. Ultimately what ended up happening, had a great workout, felt good, but then come in (Monday), it doesn't feel great. (I) didn't think that was the right decision to be able to push him," McVay said. "We're going to be smart, but he didn't feel good enough and we didn't think it was the right thing to do based on how he woke up feeling today." TheRamsare "smart" to be cautious with Stafford. He's a 37-year-old quarterback entering NFL season No. 17. He's in the fifth year of McVay's offense and knows the scheme. The Rams have more than three weeks until their2025 seasonopener at SoFi Stadium against theHouston Texans. Twenty-plus days out, it's not time to be overly concerned. However, the concern meter rises incrementally each passing day Stafford is out of practice. Stafford is missing valuable practice reps with new addition wideout Davante Adams. Plus, there's natural rust the veteran quarterback will have to work through when he does return. How many practice reps will Stafford have before Sept. 7? Will Stafford be able to shake off any rust from his absence before it's time for the real action? Two of the Rams' first three games are against playoff teams from a season ago, including the defending Super Bowl championPhiladelphia Eagles. The positive news is the Rams have shown the capability to rebound from a shaky start. They began the 2024 season 1-4 before rallying to win the NFC West title. The bad news is Stafford's a 37-year-old quarterback with back issues. Stafford was sacked 28 times last year. He was hit 63 times, the most in his four seasons in Los Angeles. What happens when Stafford takes hits this season? Back issues tend to occasionally flare up for an athlete Stafford's age. The Rams are right to exercise caution. It's not time to be concerned. But the situation can change quickly, especially with a veteran quarterback's back. "He looked damn good throwing the other day. Nobody's tougher than him," McVay said. "We also want to see if we can have him feeling as good as possible. That's super important." Follow USA TODAY Sports' Tyler Dragon on X@TheTylerDragon. The art of the call-up has evolved over the decades as the fine print in Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement gets revised every few years. And now, the date to watch for the semi-coincidental arrival of top prospects is almost upon us: Aug. 15. That's the day franchises can summon minor leaguers for their major league debuts, while still maintaining their rookie status for the 2026 season. And if a consensus top 100 prospect either wins Rookie of the Year next year or earns a top-three finish in MVP or Cy Young Award voting in their first three seasons, the club is awarded a prospect promotion incentive draft pick, slotted just after the first round of the following season's draft. A bit convoluted, yes, but just know that if a rash of blue chip prospects arrive this week, that's why. Here's a look at six of the most prominent potential arrivals: Orioles GM Mike Elias loves his draft picks and loves it even more when a recent draftee produces an extra pick and bonus pool money thanks to the PPI stipulation. That was the case with Gunnar Henderson, who debuted in August 2022 and earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2023. Enter Basallo, who turns 21 Aug. 13. The 6-4 Dominican signee largely dominated Class AAA as a 20-year-old, with a .997 OPS, 23 homers and a 13.7% walk rate. While he still needs significant growth behind the plate – as all 20-ish catchers do – it behooves the Orioles to see what the bat can do before laying groundwork for 2026. And Basallo, Baseball America's No. 7 overall prospect, could be joined by Norfolk teammate Dylan Beavers. The outfielder, who turned 24 Aug. 11, posted a .948 OPS with 18 homers and 22 steals. At 6-7, 240, Eldridge represents the perennially power-starved Giants' best shot in years at producing a homegrown slugger. Still just 20, Eldridge was slowed by injury this year but has gotten going at Class AAA Sacramento, where he has 12 homers but also 50 strikeouts in 157 plate appearances. If recency bias matters, Eldridge should get summoned west on I-80: He's posted a .298/.388/.667 line his past 15 games, with seven home runs and 24 RBIs. So long as San Francisco can handle an extra gust of wind from some swing-and-miss, no harm in dreaming of Eldridge and Rafael Devers sliding in between right-handers Matt Chapman and Willy Adames in that lineup. He could've been the top pick in the 2024 draft but slid to No. 7 and the Cardinals, who were thrilled to land such talent there. And Wetherholt has not disappointed, reaching Class AAA by July and hardly slowing his roll, with a .298/.414/478 line and 18 steals in 20 chances in 112 professional games. Now, the age-old quandary: Consistent playing time or a taste of the big leagues? Masyn Winn is entrenched at shortstop and a handful of multi-position types are also vying for at-bats in St. Louis. Wetherholt, a West Virginia product, has adjusted smoothly to every level; it will take a lot to force the issue, but if he's still unstoppable by the end of this month, it might be pragmatic to keep the ceiling off his ability. So, just how confident are the Cubs in re-signing Kyle Tucker? The sterling trio of Ian Happ, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Tucker – along with DH Seiya Suzuki – leave no place for Caissie to play in Chicago, but he's probably scraped his head on the ceiling a few times at Class AAA Iowa. Caissie has played 218 games and taken 944 plate appearances at AAA the past two seasons, hit 40 homers and posted an .892 OPS. It would probably take an injury to get Caissie to Wrigley Field, but he's already on the 40-man roster. And Caissie could help both their pennant drive and their winter fortune telling should Tucker find greener pastures. The Blue Jays have thoughtfully yet urgently nudged Yesavage through four levels this season, and now the 20th overall pick in 2024 has landed at Class AAA Buffalo – just as the big club sees the Boston Red Sox lurking four games out in the AL East. With Shane Bieber likely to join the rotation after one more rehab appearance, Yesavage may not be needed to start. But the deeper reaches of the Blue Jays' pen has been a revolving door and the club needs quality innings, regardless of role. Yesavage struck out an eye-opening 15 batters per nine innings at his three stops; should he keep that up at Buffalo, crossing the Peace Bridge to the Jays' bullpen is very much in play. Like Yesavage, Bazzana just landed at Class AAA, after a promotion from AA Akron. And like Yesavage, Bazzana could provide a specific skill set to boost a team suddenly in the playoff picture. As a matter of course, we'll pump the brakes a bit: Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick a year ago, missed two months with an oblique strain and has just 85 professional games under his belt. On the other hand, the Guardians' mix-and-match of middle infielders – Gabriel Arias (84 adjusted OPS), Daniel Scheeneman (98), Brayan Rocchio (68) and Angel Martinez (81) are all producing below league average at the plate. And Bazzana ended his Akron stint on a heater, with a .367 OBP and .779 OPS while reducing his K rate from his previous stint. Bazzana will surely be a favorite for 2026 AL Rookie of the Year. It might make sense to start banging that drum very soon. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:Major League baseball prospects who could be promoted to MLB in August
