Last week, Shedeur Sanders got an opportunity he could not have expected. Due to injuries and the Cleveland Browns' desire to not overextend Joe Flacco in the preseason, he got to start the teams' first preseason game. That announcement came before he had ever taken a snap with the first-team offense. It was fortunate. AndSanders played well, with more than two million people watching on NFL Network. He looked sharp despite a difficult situation. He threw two excellent touchdown passes. Nike tweeted out an ad with him celebrating one of the scores. He was the talk of the NFL world. And then the fortune swung the other way. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Sanders suffered an oblique injuryduring warmups before a joint practice against the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday. He didn't practice Wednesday, won't practice Thursday and is unlikely to play in Saturday's preseason game,according toESPN's Adam Schefter. Sanders is considered day to day, which isn't bad news. But Sanders doesn't have days to waste. Sanders' problem, even after playing well in last week's preseason game, is that he started at the bottom of the depth chart. Sanders had been fourth in the Browns' pecking order all offseason and then to start camp. Injuries helped him get a temporary boost, but there was no indication that he had permanently moved ahead of Pickett, Gabriel and definitely not Flacco, the presumed Week 1 starter. But Sanders could have made a case to be higher than fourth before the season started, if he played in the final two preseason games like he did the first one. It was hard to not wonder if Sanders should begin the season as high as second on the depth chart, based on how he played. Many of his supporters would argue he should be even higher, though that has always been unrealistic. The Browns have just two preseason games remaining. Sanders won't play in one of them. Oblique injuries can linger, so there's no guarantee he'll be ready by the final preseason game on Aug. 23, or that Sanders would be healthy enough to play his best. It's possible we've seen the last of Sanders in game action until ... well, who knows when. That first preseason performance happened, and the highlights from it won't be forgotten. But for a player who already had limited reps in practice, a little more than a half of preseason football probably won't be enough to trust him to start regular-season games early on. And there aren't many other opportunities ahead. Teams start focusing on the regular season as soon as they can, and that doesn't include normal practice reps for a fifth-round rookie quarterback. He could have some practice squad reps, but that only goes so far. [Get more Browns news: Cleveland team feed] The Browns will have to figure out what to do at quarterback. Keeping four on the active roster is unconventional, but it would make sense for the Browns this season, with two drafted rookie quarterbacks along with two veterans. The team will need to figure out the order of those four quarterbacks, and at least Sanders has played some in the preseason. Pickett and Gabriel didn't play last week, though both practiced against the Eagles on Wednesday. It's not an easy evaluation. Sanders' chances of playing well in the final two preseason games and perhaps forcing his way up the depth chart were cut in half, at least, with Wednesday's injury. It's not impossible for Sanders to carve out a path for himself to start games this season as a rookie. But it got a lot tougher.

Two runs scored and Venezuela's lead over Puerto Rico grew to 3-0. Above the team dugout, spectators in a fan section that barely filled three rows raised one of the few Venezuelan flags in Volunteer Stadium. It took a lot for Venezuela to get here, but on Wednesday, its team made the playing baseball part of the journey look easy. Cardenales Little League from Barquisimeto went on to shut out Puerto Rico 5-0. Cardenales won all five of its regional tournament games, outscoring opponents 46-6 to become the Latin America representative to the LLWS. But in the wake of President DonaldTrump's travel bans and restrictions affecting 19 countries, the team needed a special exemption from the U.S. State Department and a sign-off from Secretary of State Marco Rubio after visas were initially denied. Venezuela's senior team, players who are up to 16 years old, which was supposed to compete in Easley, South Carolina, last month was unable to get the exemption and wasdenied entry to the United States. "They were working their way through applying for the exemption," Little League President and CEO Patrick Wilson said in a news conference before Wednesday's game. "We ran out of time, just candidly." Wilson said there were close to 10 days for Venezuela's Williamsport team to get approved, which was "more lead time" than the senior team. They were notified of the approval last Thursday. This isn't the first time visa snarls have been an issue at the tournament. In 2011, Uganda's visa applications were denied and Saudi Arabia, the regional runner-up, played instead. "We'll do our best to have conversations with the great folks at the State Department that help us out in an effort to, whether we have to adjust lead times or whatever we can do, to ensure that all teams can participate and enjoy the Little League experience, whether that's at the Little League level, junior, senior, softball, whatever it takes," Wilson said. Venezuelan players traveled to the United States without their families — parents couldn't get visas — but the coaches of last year's team that made it to the international final were among the few fans from back home sitting proudly in the stands above the dugout. Euclides and Ender Rivero only had to renew their visas which, they explained through an interpreter, was a much easier process. Maria Lewis sat just a few seats away from the Riveros holding one of the country's flags and wearing the Latin America team shirt. She's Venezuelan and lives only an hour away from Williamsport. "I've been praying for them to come," Lewis said. "I'm very pleased that (their visas were) granted, because these are 12-year-olds that deserve to play their game." She comes to Volunteer Stadium every year when a team from Venezuela plays. "I'm just here like a team mom, honorary team mom, so that they can feel supported, that they have people behind them," Lewis said. Manager Luis Bermudez said the team has been keeping in touch with those 2,204 miles (3,547 kilometers) away in Barquisimeto through their smartphones, and he's grateful to the fans Venezuela did have in the stands. "We're very happy we have all their support," he said through an interpreter. On Friday, Venezuela will play Canada. "I'm so happy to be here," Francisco Rivero, who scored twice on Wednesday, said after the win. "It's a great feeling." Another girl takes the field at LLWS Monica Arcuri became the 24th girl to play in the Little League World Series on Wednesday when her Australia club played Panama. She started at first and rounded out the lineup for the team from Brisbane. With that, the trio ofJoe, Nick and Kevin Jonascome swaggering and smiling from the wings, strolling to the tip of a catwalk together, the professional differences that splintered their brotherly union for a spell neatly compartmentalized for 2 ½-hours of polished pop digested by adoring fans. THIS is career longevity in action. The second date of the brothers'JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometowntour pulled into Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater Aug. 12, two days after a massive homecoming arrival at MetLife Stadium in their home state of New Jersey that featured an internet-breaking guest appearance by "Camp Rock" co-star and Joe's ex-girlfriend,Demi Lovato. The Virginia show was among those scaled back from stadiums, but nary a seat or speck of grass went empty at the 20,000-capacity venue as millennials basked in nostalgia and their kids learned the definition of magnetism. There was Joe, who turns 36 on Aug. 15, in his studded denim outfit, sauntering the stage with arms outstretched and bedroom eyes in full effect as he proclaimed, "We're back, baby!" And Nick, 32, with a bandanna jauntily hanging from his neck, telling fans earnestly, "Treat tonight as a thank you letter for making (our career) possible." And Kevin, the elder statesman at 37, owning his guitar riffs with quiet authority as he whirled around the stage among an ace five-piece band, four personable horn players and a pair of angelic-voiced backing vocalists. This tour, named for the band's just-released seventh studio album, will run through mid-November, and it seems designed for flexibility. The JoBros modified their setlist for night two, kicking off the slick show with "I Can't Lose" and saving "Lovebug," the opener at the tour debut, until deep in the concert andplaying 29 songs instead of 31. Though there wasn'ta parade of guests(Switchfoot, Jesse McCartney and Dean Lewis joined Lovato in New Jersey), the threesome stayed true to the "hometown" plot device by welcomingAll Time Low. Nick introduced Maryland-based rockers All Time Low with memories of driving "up and down the East Coast" in the brothers' early career days before singer Alex Gaskarth stormed through the guitar-driven"Dear Maria, Count Me In,"the band's 2008 pop-punk hit. Also on board was Marshmello, who joined the guys for "Slow Motion" before they ceded the stage to him for a 20-minute DJ set packed with trappings familiar to EDM fans – multiple streamer launches, zig-zagging lasers and showers of sparklers. Marshmello hung around for dreamy pop gem"Leave Before You Love Me"(a song he brought to the band in 2021) before leaving the Jonas Brothers, now clad in suits of brown and beige for Act Two, to continue this 20thanniversary celebration of their career. Theband is having a moment, having made house (or barn or backyard) parties cool again this summer. But their taut power-pop-rock is best appreciated on these big stages. "We are the bad boys of this tour," Ritter said, dousing AAR's 35-minute set with sweat and innuendo as he joked about the venue's name, pleaded with a cotton candy vendor to give him some sugar and gifted a bride-to-be in the crowd with a tambourine. In between amusing antics, Ritter and bandmates Nick Wheeler (lead guitar), Mike Kennerty (rhythm guitar) and Chris Gaylor (drums) galloped through new song "Easy Come, Easy Go," the tom-tom heavy "Move Along" and the sly"Dirty Little Secret,"its biting lyrics dipped in melody. Michael Phelps caught plenty of attentionfor criticizing USA Swimmingin a post during the 2025 World Championships. On Wednesday, Phelps went into greater detail on his critiques in a lengthy post on Instagram. The latest Instagram postcalled out USA Swimmingfor a decline in performance over the past couple years and detailed a number of issues Phelps sees within the program. Before getting into all of that, though, Phelps started the post by clarifying that his criticisms are targeted at the leadership within USA Swimming, and not its athletes. From there, Phelps laid out his issues with USA Swimming. He started by calling out the team's decline in performance, stating that Team USA won just 44 percent of the medals they competed for in the 2024 Paris Olympics. That was the lowest total the U.S. saw in the sport since 1988. He then accused USA Swimming of poor leadership, saying that trickles down and affects the athletes involved with the organization. Phelps said he sent a letter to USA Swimming earlier this year, but it "seemed to fall on deaf ears." While Phelps said money was a factor in USA Swimming's decline, he called "poor operational controls and weak leadership" the "cornerstone of the sport's problems." Phelps explained that he believes athletes are no longer getting the support necessary to compete at the highest level. He called out the sport's declining participation numbers, and said he would be hesitant to allow his sons to compete in swimming. Phelps then explained that he wants to be part of the solution for USA Swimming. He urged others to weigh in with their thoughts before listing out three recommendations for the organization. Phelps knows a thing or two about the sport. He's widely considered one of the best swimmers — and one of the best Olympians — of all time. Phelps won a record 23 gold medals over his Olympics career. Team USA recovered from a slow start at the 2025 World Championships. The team finished with nine gold medals in swimming at the event, which led all countries. It also finished with 29 total medals, which was also ranked first. Despite the team's success, it's clear Phelps believes more work needs to be done. And he's willing to be a part of that solution.

Its NBA on Prime Cup Nights will feature five straight weeks of group play doubleheaders starting Oct. 31. That night, Boston will visit Philadelphia and Memphis will host the Los Angeles Lakers. On Nov. 7, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs will host the Houston Rockets and new acquisition Kevin Durant. After that, Steph Curry's Golden State Warriors will visit Nikola Jokic's Denver Nuggets. On Nov. 14, Miami visits New York and Golden State visits San Antonio. On Nov. 21, Cleveland will host Indiana and Denver will visit Houston. "Now, I don't know if Dad was just worried about me getting into bad habits, or I think he was, in his own very simple way, actually teaching me Actors Studio stuff. It was the simplest version of method acting, finding the truth in moments," he said. "I think maybe he felt like there was a lot of artifice in these punch-line-driven deliveries that would be required." "The show looks so simple, but it was all about this very precise problem-solving," he said "I would see scenes suddenly become funny or work. Because it wasn't done in front of an audience, and even though we were working quickly, what Andy wanted was a truthfulness. But it still required perfect timing and exactly the right tone." "As a little kid, it didn't take me long to realize that the director was the one who was hanging out with everybody.
