Alec Baldwin Says Trump's D.C. Police Takeover Is 'Insane Move' to 'Deflect From His Inadequacy'New Foto - Alec Baldwin Says Trump's D.C. Police Takeover Is 'Insane Move' to 'Deflect From His Inadequacy'

Alec Baldwin reacted with alarm to President Donald Trump's federal takeover of the Washington, D.C., police department and his deployment of troops to the city — saying they are examples of Trump's "insane moves" to "deflect from his inadequacy." "This idea of federalizing the D.C. police department, it's of such grave concern to me," Baldwin said in aTikTok videoposted Thursday. More from Variety CNN's Jake Tapper Slams Trump's '60 Minutes' Lawsuit as 'Bulls--,' Says Paramount's Settlement Was 'About Fealty' to the President 'The View' Host Ana Navarro Tells Gloria Gaynor to Reject Trump's Kennedy Center Honor: He Has 'Attacked the Rights of Women, People of Color and LGBTQ' Sylvester Stallone and Kiss Among Kennedy Center Honorees; President Trump to Host Ceremony The White House on Thursday said it would install an "emergency commissioner" overseeing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and revoked policies that limited officers' cooperation with federal immigration enforcement officials. On Friday, the attorney general of D.C. sued the Trump administration over the "unlawful" moves. In the TikTok video, Baldwin wondered what the D.C. police situation would presage. "What's gonna happen next? Is Trump going to federalize the New York City Police Department?" he said. "What's after that? Chicago, L.A., Miami, Boston, and on and on? What's after that? The NFL? The NBA? Is he gonna federalize them to take them over?" "All he wants to do is deflect from his inadequacy by the bold, insane moves," Baldwin continued. "The takeover of D.C. police, it's not what I need." The U.S. government needs to address more pressing issues, like Russia's war on Ukraine and Israel's military action in Gaza. "And after that, we have something else we have to get over with," Baldwin said — by which he means Trump's presidency. Baldwin famously portrayed Trump for several years on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" leading up to and during his first term, triggering the president's ire. At the beginning of the TikTok video, Baldwin said he was having lunch at the farmers market in Amagansett on Long Island. "I don't post much about Trump here," he said. "We just have to wait it out." The actor added that he was just "hoping to make it through to the next election in 2028." Baldwin's comments came prior to D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb filing a lawsuit challenging the federal government's "unlawful" attempt to take over the D.C. police. The lawsuit targets Trump's Aug. 11 executive order and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi's Aug. 14 order to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser invoking a never-before-used provision of the Home Rule Act to claim federal command of the city's police force. A copy of the complaint is atthis link. "By declaring a hostile takeover of MPD, the Administration is abusing its limited, temporary authority under the Home Rule Act, infringing on the District's right to self-governance and putting the safety of D.C. residents and visitors at risk," Schwalb said in a statement. "The Administration's unlawful actions are an affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call D.C. home. This is the gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it." "And I was like, 'Well, you failed as a friend. Like, it was your job to say that before.' " Although Barack let her down in the moment, Ross said that she does "call about dating advice." Bengals assessing options at safety with starter Geno Stone sidelined because of injuryNew Foto - Bengals assessing options at safety with starter Geno Stone sidelined because of injury

CINCINNATI (AP) — After the Cincinnati Bengals secondary struggled in the preseason opener, starting safety Geno Stone learned that he has a soft tissue injury that has him out on a "week-to-week" basis. Those recent developments gave the Bengals a lot to discuss and work on heading into their second preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Monday night. Coach Zac Taylor said that the Philadelphia Eagles' success against the Bengals in last week's preseason opener showed the Bengals defensive backs some areas to focus on going forward. Penalties from the Bengals also made a big difference last week, and Taylor wants to see those cleaned up in Washington. "We were just in a lot of one-on-one positions where we were fingertip away a lot of times," Taylor said. "Continue to be competitive, continue to be detailed up on scrimmage. I think overall, operationally, there were some things on offense, defense and special teams that we've we've got to be better at. That had nothing to do with Philly, and that's, that's one of our primary focuses right now as a team, not having a joint practice this week." Without Stone in the short term, Tycen Anderson, Daijahn Anthony and PJ Jules have been battling for first-team reps on defense. Even though the Bengals didn't utilize their safety depth last season, they only added undrafted free agents into that position group. As a result, the backups behind Stone who are now contenders for a first-team role are getting their first real chance to show what they're capable of in a starting opportunity. Anthony played some backup slot cornerback during the first two weeks last season. But after he committed a key penalty, he lost that role and didn't play much during the rest of his rookie season. He has received a fresh start in 2025 with a new defensive coordinator, and he has been Stone's primary backup as the second-team free safety. "Safety is just slowing down for me now," Anthony said. "What's changed the most is that Coach Al (Golden) has given us our own freedom. He gives us the tools and played to run. Then, he gives us the opportunity to make those plays and run the show back there. That's the biggest change for me. There's not as much stress with this is exactly what we have to do." Anderson, a fifth-round pick in 2022, has played one career defensive snap while establishing himself as the team's top special teamer. He has played in 24 total games, and Anderson has 18 total tackles in the NFL on special teams. Jules was an undrafted free agent last season who spent 2024 on the Bengals' practice squad. An interception last Sunday during practice with the second team opened some eyes and led to him getting more opportunities. "I don't care who you are, how you got here, I'll give you the same promise my coach gave me 15 years ago," safeties coach Jordan Kovacs said. "The best players will play. Every spot is open. Let's go compete and let's see how good we can get. Because competition is ultimately what's going to make us better players." Taylor also didn't rule out the Bengals adding a free-agent option at the safety position. "That's a group that we're looking to make sure we're deep enough there, so they're gonna continue to get a lot of opportunities," Taylor said. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Box Office: 'Nobody 2' Picks Up $1.3 Million in Thursday PreviewsNew Foto - Box Office: 'Nobody 2' Picks Up $1.3 Million in Thursday Previews

"Nobody 2" picked up $1.3 million in preview screenings on Thursday as the action sequel heads into an opening weekend that will see it face off against "Weapons." The film, which brings back Bob Odenkirk as a typical suburbanite who racks up a serious body count when not driving a minivan, is projected to earn between $10 million to $12 million from 3,200 North American theaters. That would best the $6.8 million opening of the first "Nobody," but it's worth remembering that the 2021 original opened when cinemas were just coming back after being shut down during COVID. "Nobody" went on to earn $27 million domestically and $57 million worldwide while becoming a popular title on premium video-on-demand platforms. His side hustle as a mercenary has put a strain on his marriage and left him missing family events. Sharon Stone co-stars as a mob boss with a few screws loose — her gang of bootleggers toggles with Hutch, threatening to ruin everyone's R&R. "Nobody 2" was modestly budgeted at $25 million. The first film carried a $16 million price tag. Universal produced and distributed the sequel, which will expand to 3,200 North American theaters over the weekend. "Nobody 2" will likely be no match for "Weapons," a twisty horror film from Warner Bros. and New Line thatopened to a smashing $43.5 millionlast weekend. It's continued to be a box office winner throughout the week and should top charts with $20 million to $22 million in its sophomore outing. This weekend's other new release, Spike Lee's crime thriller "Highest 2 Lowest," will debut in roughly 300 screens. It's a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 classic "High and Low." Denzel Washington stars as a music mogul who gets tangled up in a ransom plot. Apple backed the film which A24 is releasing in theaters before it debuts on Apple TV+ on Sept. 5. Critics have largely embraced the picture, withVariety's Peter Debruge writingthat the film's "sensational third act more than justifies what might have seemed an unnecessary update." In May, the royal family, including William and Kate's three young children,Prince George, 12,Princess Charlotte, 10, andPrince Louis, 7, commemorated the end of the war in Europe. Then, there were parades and a flypast at Buckingham Palace. William and Kate's message on Aug. 15 came ahead of a formal commemoration of the anniversary, whereKing CharlesandQueen Camillaled the U.K. at a service of remembrance at the National Artboretum in Staffordshire, England. Chris Jackson/Getty Earlier, Charles, 76, addressed the nation, praising the ever-decreasing number of veterans and their loved ones for their service of eight decades ago. "So to the families of all those who served, and to that sadly dwindling band of veterans among us still, please know that the courage and camaraderie displayed in humanity's darkest hour is a flame that shall blaze for eternity – a beacon that honors our past and guides our future." Aaron Chown - Pool/Getty "Seldom can a simple message have resonated with such a potent mix of relief, celebration, and sorrow for those who never lived to see the glow of freedom's new dawn," the message continued. "On this day of profound remembrance, I speak to you in that same spirit of commemoration and celebration as we honor anew all those whose service and sacrifice saw the forces of liberty prevail." The Prince and Princess of Wales/Instagram He also referred to the suffering of the cities under the dropping of the first atomic bombs in the last weeks of the war. "On this landmark anniversary, we should also pause to acknowledge that in the war's final act, an immense price was paid by the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – a price we pray no nation need ever pay again," Charles said. "But in recalling so much suffering, we must not lose sight of how great was the cause and how sweet the victory. For those heroes of V.J. NFLPA lawyer placed on leave after her allegations led to FBI probe, per reportNew Foto - NFLPA lawyer placed on leave after her allegations led to FBI probe, per report

The latest twist in the drama that has consumed the NFL Players Association features a lawyer who reportedly squared off with former executive director Lloyd Howell and is now facing some charges herself. Heather McPhee, associate general counsel for the NFLPA since 2009, was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday after multiple employees filed complaints against her with the union's human resources department, according toESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. and Jeff Passan. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] McPhee reportedly faces accusations of failing to follow supervisors' directions, bullying colleagues and disrupting the union's work environment. The decision to place her on leave reportedly comes months after her own allegations helped triggeran FBI investigation into the NFLPA, the MLBPA and their OneTeam Partners licensing company. Matt Curtin, the head of the NFLPA's licensing arm and a member of the OneTeam board, is among those who filed complaints against McPhee. There wereseveral other problems facing the NFLPAby the timeHowell resigned last month, but the only one that prompted action by federal authorities was the OneTeam matter. In June 2024, the eight-member board of directors, which included Howell, signed a resolution that could have personally entitled them to considerable compensation from the OneTeam partnership. McPhee reportedly wrote multiple memos suggesting the NFLPA could face legal jeopardy if it went through with the bonus plan and urged the union to investigate claims that the board members had allocated equity shares to themselves. The plan ultimately did not go through. PerThe Athletic, OneTeam brought in $101 million for the NFLPA alone from early 2024 into 2025. The NFLPA reportedly owns 44% of the licensing firm, with the MLBPA owning 22% and three other unions representing MLS, the USWNT and WNBA owning much smaller shares. Outside investors make up the remainder of the ownership. ESPN notes that McPhee has not been deemed a whistleblower in the FBI case, leaving her with fewer legal protections against any retaliation. The NFLPA has been operating under new leadership since Howell announced his resignation, withformer SAG-AFTRA executive director David White acting as interim head.

The first pitch before the Washington Nationals' game Thursday was a full circle moment for two Little League World Series opponents. The pitcher: Mo'ne Davis, one of the biggest viral sensations in the tournament's history. The catcher: Nationals outfielder Robert Hassell III, who faced Davis in 2014. And struck out against her. On his birthday. There were no hard feelings. That game made her the first female pitcher to earn a win in LLWS history. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Hassell even pops up by name in the old "SportsCenter" highlight reel, complete with narration by Stuart Scott and a tweet from Kevin Durant. Hassell was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft six years later. Hespoke about the experience earlier this yearand remained impressed, noting he still follows her on Instagram: "It was crazy. She struck me out, it was on my birthday. Then I got a base hit off her. But yeah, the whole crowd screaming her name, we're really young, it was crazy, but it was really fun ... She was really good." For her part, Davis remembered her coach pointing out Hassell as a dangerous hitterwhen asked about him Thursday: "I remember before the game, going over the lineup with out coach, he's like, 'Yeah, so, they have this kid named Robert, we have to watch out for him. He's a really good hitter, he might be their best hitter, so just be careful, he bats at the top of the lineup.' I'm like, 'Alright, OK.' "He stands close to the plate, I was like, 'Alright, I gotta really lock in here.' I don't want to hit him, get him on base, give them any type of momentum. I was really feeling everything that game. I ended up striking him out which was pretty cool, so I have bragging rights right now. He can't get his redemption back from me." Now 24 years old, Davis was at Nationals Park in connection tothe tryouts for the Women's Pro Baseball Leaguescheduled to take place at the same stadium next week. Since the 2014 LLWS, she has released a memoir, played softball at Hampton University and graduated from Columbia University with a master's in sports management. As for Hassell, his bat made him a top 100 prospect in the minor leagues. He was among the many young players the San Diego Padres sent to Washington in the blockbuster Juan Soto trade in 2022. He made his MLB debut this season and entered Thursday slashing .250/.264/.356 with two homers in 106 plate appearances.

Vanessa Kirby is a superhero in the "Fantastic Four" movie, though she's also pretty great at playing not-so-super. Kirby stuns as a woman grieving the loss of her baby in "Pieces of a Woman" and is back in another dramatic Netflix tale with"Night Always Comes,"playing a woman trying to get some last-minute cash. That's one of severalnew movies on streaming services, with HBO Max, Amazon's Prime Video, Hulu and more delivering fresh films to your favorite devices. There's original fare like a Netflix animated comedy with cartoon dogsthat's definitelynotfor kids, plus movies coming in hot off theatrical release like a horror flick with Ashley Greene (which will interest the "Twilight" fam) anda family adventure that's very much a 1980s throwback. Here are 10 new and notable moviesyou can stream right now: This clever and comedic slasher reinvention centers on a teen girl (Katie Douglas) who moves to a small Missouri farm town. The place has a dark past, partly because of the local corn syrup factory burning down but also because of a violent clown named Frendo who stalks youngsters. Perfect for horror fiends who want more plot with their gore. Where to watch:Shudder There's been a ton of "one wild night" R-rated comedies, but not a bunch that star dogs. In the very adult animated romp, a mutt named Bull (voiced by Adam Devine) learns he has 24 hours before he's neutered by the vet, leading to an epic quest with his canine BFFs and maybe a shot at love with the neighbor show dog Honey (Kathryn Hahn). Where to watch:Netflix Pedro Pascalis in approximately 57 movies this year, but none are quite like this bizarrely watchable, throwback action B-movie. The "Fantastic Four" star plays an enforcer on a mission of revenge amid intertwining stories set in 1980s Oakland with Nazi-stabbing youngsters, rap battles, a ninja hoopster anda crusty Tom Hanks. Where to watch:HBO Max Ashley Greene stars in the horror film as a psychic psychiatrist whose home office is suddenly visited by a girl claiming to have a dark being attached to her. The clairvoyant doc and her daughter (Ellie O'Brien) work to help the youngster before it's too late in a solid, visually eerie supernatural tale for those who dig psychological creepers. Where to watch:Hulu There are shades of "E.T." and "The NeverEnding Story" in this family-friendly fantasy. Helena Zengel stars as farm girl Yuri, who's taught by her dad (Willem Dafoe) to hunt and fear mythic creatures known as the Ochi. When she befriends an injured baby one, Yuri goes on an adventurous quest to deliver her new adorable pal home safely. Where to watch:HBO Max Based on a Stephen King short story, Osgood Perkins'gory and gloriously absurd horror comedyunleashes Theo James as estranged twins trying to rid themselves of a cursed monkey toy that's a harbinger of death. It's an extremely demented, intriguingly insightful tale with themes of mortality and buckets of blood. Where to watch:Hulu You're likely to need a stress ball to get through this gripping thriller. Financially strapped Lynette (Vanessa Kirby) is determined to keep a roof over her family's head. When her mom (Jennifer Jason Leigh) fritters away the $25,000 needed to close a home loan, Lyn has to make up the cash overnight, by any means necessary, as well as face past demons. Where to watch:Netflix The constant buddy-comedy banter betweenEddie Murphyand Pete Davidson does wonders to keep this heist flick watchable. Armored truck driver Russell (Murphy) is nearing retirement and is on a cash pickup job with young slacker Travis (Davidson) when the latter gets snookered by a criminal (Keke Palmer) into a high-stakes robbery situation. Where to watch:Prime Video This unsettling thriller features Ben Foster as a man who becomes overly obsessed with the fatal car crashes that happen at a sharp corner in the road in front of his new home. But the intrigue consumes him totally, leading to troubles at work and on the home front with his wife (Cobie Smulders) and young son. Where to watch:Hulu Those who binge bad movies for fun, rejoice! Ice Cube plays a domestic terror analyst dealing with an alien invasion in this "screenlife" thriller – told through apps, texts, email and video chats – that remakes H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi tale. It basks in cheesy, product-placement ridiculousness, like the fate of the world hinging on an online Amazon purchase.
