BMW hole-in-one could lift Akshay Bhatia into Tour ChampionshipNew Foto - BMW hole-in-one could lift Akshay Bhatia into Tour Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Akshay Bhatia recorded his first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour during the third round of the BMW Championship on Saturday at Caves Valley Golf Club. Bhatia's ace at the 227-yard 17th hole helped him climb to even par for the tournament and polish off a 4-under-par 66, the low round of the day when he signed his scorecard just after 2 p.m. local time. Bhatia was out of the running to win the tournament, but the ace could have downstream effects for the rest of his season. Bhatia entered the week at No. 29 in the FedEx Cup standings. Only the top 30 advance to next week's Tour Championship -- meaning that hole-in-one might just be the shot that pushes him over the line. Bhatia, 23, said it was the sixth hole-in-one of his life, but none were this consequential. He was awarded a BMW luxury SUV, and the title sponsor will also grant a full, four-year college scholarship to a youth caddie via the Evans Scholars Foundation. "When that golf ball goes in, it was the craziest thing in the world," Bhatia said. "My caddie was pointing at the car and I'm like, don't even know what to do. I couldn't even feel my body." Bhatia didn't have plans for the new ride just yet. "I don't really necessarily need a new car. I'm pretty happy with what I've got," Bhatia said. "I think either I'll give it to my caddie or figure something out to where I can donate it to charity or something." On the flip side, he was thrilled for the young caddie whose life he changed with one swing. "It's the coolest thing. It warms my heart that a golf shot that I hit can help a kid get a full scholarship," he said. "Again, it was a lot of fun. This event is amazing when the kids and the caddies get to come walk with us inside the ropes for two days. I just am very blessed and thankful for that opportunity that Evans Scholars provided this week." A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, Bhatia actually holed out for eagle earlier in his round, using a sand wedge at the par-4 seventh hole. Riding the momentum of a birdie at No. 16, Bhatia used a 5-iron off the tee at No. 17. The shot landed just short of the pin and rolled into the cup. Bhatia's projected standing in the FedEx Cup race vacillated between No. 29 and 31 during the third round. He was not ready to reflect on what it would mean if that hole-in-one winds up the difference between 30th and 31st. "I could have made two straight birdies to finish the round (instead of one ace)," he said. "I'm not going to say that one shot -- it obviously certainly helps, but there's still 18 holes tomorrow, so I'm just going to go try and play my best tomorrow." Bhatia will have an eye on the standings throughout Sunday. "I try not to, but I do. Even when I'm putting, I try and see where my FedEx is projected," he said. "Again, something that I'm aware of and need to, again, focus on what I'm trying to do. But just the nature of the game. You just want to know where you're at. Again, I'm not going to leave anything on the table tomorrow." --Adam Zielonka, Field Level Media

Exclusive-ESPN will not air Spike Lee's docuseries on Colin Kaepernick, citing 'creative differences'New Foto - Exclusive-ESPN will not air Spike Lee's docuseries on Colin Kaepernick, citing 'creative differences'

By Rory Carroll and Lisa Richwine BEVERLY HILLS, California (Reuters) -Director Spike Lee's multi-part documentary series for ESPN Films about former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who sparked a national debate when he protested racial injustice nearly a decade ago, will not be released, the filmmaker and ESPN said. "ESPN, Colin Kaepernick and Spike Lee have collectively decided to no longer proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences," ESPN said in a statement to Reuters on Saturday. "Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film." Lee told Reuters on Friday that the series was not going to be released. "It's not coming out. That's all I can say," Lee said on the red carpet ahead of the Harold and Carole Pump Foundation dinner, a fundraiser for cancer research and treatment, in Beverly Hills, California. Asked why, the Oscar-winning director declined to elaborate, citing a nondisclosure agreement. "I can't. I signed a nondisclosure. I can't talk about it." Kaepernick played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2016. He ignited a national debate in 2016 when he knelt during the U.S. national anthem to protest systemic racism and police brutality. The 37-year-old athlete has not played in the NFL since that season. Many experts believed his political activism, which triggered a movement that drew the ire of U.S. President Donald Trump, was the key reason teams were wary of signing him. He later filed a collusion grievance against team owners, which was settled with the league in 2019. A representative for Kaepernick said the player had no comment about the docuseries on Saturday. Production on the series began in 2022, with Walt Disney-owned ESPN touting it as a "full, first-person account" of Kaepernick's journey that would feature extensive interviews with the player. In September, Puck News reported the project faced delays amid disagreements between Kaepernick and Lee over the direction of the film, and that ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro was open to allowing the filmmakers to shop it elsewhere. HOUSTON (AP) — Ramón Urìas beat Jackson Holliday's throw to first, allowing Carlos Correa to score from third and the Houston Astros outlasted the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 in 12 innings Saturday night. Urìas helped the AL West-leading Astros to their sixth walk-off victory of the season a night after ending a perfect game bid in the eighth against his old team. Houston increased its division lead to 1 1/2 games. With the bases loaded and one out, Urías — who was 0 for 6 — hit a grounder to third base, but instead of throwing home to get the second out, Jordan Westburg tried for the double play. Enyel De Los Santos (4-3) overcame the automatic runner and kept the Orioles off the board in the 11th and 12th. Jason Alexander allowed two runs on three hits over six innings without issuing a walk, while matching his career high with six strikeouts. Alexander left with the Astros leading 3-2 and, after Bryan King worked around a leadoff single in the seventh, Jose Altuve made it 4-2 when he hit 22nd home run of the season in the bottom of the inning. Holliday tied it in the eighth with a two-run homer off Bennett Sousa. Baltimore's Cade Povich allowed three runs on five hits over five innings while matching his career high with 10 strikeouts. Touted Orioles prospect Dylan Beavers was 1 for 5 with a double in his major league debut. Key moment Urías beat Holliday's throw to first to allow the winning run to score. "Real Time" hostBill Mahercalled out Democrats like former Vice President Kamala Harris and the Clintons for being "afraid" to come onto his show while praising Republicans for coming on and taking "their beating like a man." The "Real Time" host said people ask him "all the time" why he doesn't have guests like Harris or Bill andHillary Clintonon his program, but according to Maher, it's not for a lack of trying on his end. "You think we don't ask? We ask these people every week. They say no," he said. "It took eight years and a petition to get Obama on." Bill Maher Admits He Still Fears Getting Canceled Despite Cultural 'Vibe Shift' After Election Maher expressed confusion at the fact that Democratic politicians would be "afraid" to come on his show, considering that the late-night host is a longtime liberal who mostly votes for Democrats. "And these are people — all people I voted for. Think about that. They're afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them," he jeered. "The Republicans, they show up and when they do, they take their beating like a man." Read On The Fox News App The late-night host then played a montage of conservatives appearing on "Real Time" and getting into heated disagreements with him. Conservative guests included in the montage were former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, former Attorney General Bill Barr, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon. "Look, I would love to have AOC on the show and [Zohran] Mandani and Elizabeth Warren, but I can't subpoena the guests and I can't fix that," Maher asserted. "What the Democrats are scared of more than anything else. I mean, obviously, besides gluten, is being primaried from the far left, even though most Democrats are not far-left, they're mildmannered and moderate." He joked, "At least at my bath house." Click Here For The Latest Media And Culture News Although Maher was critical of Democrats who were too "afraid" to make an appearance on his show, there was one liberal politician who Maher praised for being brave enough to make an appearance. In the prior segment, Maher poked fun at California Gov. Gavin Newsom for his "perfect hair," but commended the fact that he's willing to come on his show. Thelast time Newsom was on"Real Time," Maher did not pull any punches during their time together, calling out the governor over the Golden State's many regulations — something he'd previously pressed Newsom on. The liberal host relayed how he personally felt the sting of big government. Maher kicked off the exchange in March by complaining to Newsom about how he needed to pay out-of-pocket for "two inspections" for upgrades on his roof following the devastating wildfires in the Pacific Palisades. "It's my roof!" Maher exclaimed. "If it falls on my head, that's my problem." "Why do I need two inspections, which I have to pay for? You were here last time. We talked about regulations. You said, 'Oh, it's a completely new day,'" Maher said and made a face at the governor. "You said you were working on it." Fox News' Joseph A. Wulfsohn contributed to this report. Reports: Big Ten floats expanding CFP to 24 or 28 teamsNew Foto - Reports: Big Ten floats expanding CFP to 24 or 28 teams

The Big Ten is exploring the idea of a massive expansion of the College Football Playoff field to 24 or 28 teams, multiple outlets reported Saturday. The proposal is still "in the very early stages," with Big Ten commissioner Tony Pettiti discussing it with his league's athletic directors on Wednesday, according to ESPN. The 28-team model would reportedly eliminate conference title games and offer a high number of automatic bids to Power 4 conferences: seven each for the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference and five each for the Big 12 and Atlantic Coast Conference. There would be two auto bids for the remaining conferences plus two at-large teams. Under this plan, the CFP committee would seed the field and select the at-large teams. The 2025 season marks the second year with a 12-team playoff, with the Big Ten's Ohio State winning it all after the 2024 campaign. CFP executives have until Dec. 1 to notify media partner ESPN of any expansion plans for 2026. Plans discussed to this point have generally focused on a potential 16-team format. --Field Level Media

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — It's not an ice-cream cone. It's not an Italian rainbow cookie. It's the baseball bat being used at the Little League World Series. Easton's 2026 Hype Fire USA Bat with the neon green grip and the pink-and-neon yellow barrel is hard to miss at the plate. And the players love them. "I left it up to them which bats they wanted to use, most of them went with the bat they gave us," Pennsylvania manager Michael Shaw said. "You know, a great color for 12-year-old kids — sour gummy worms." When Little League teams arrive in Williamsport, they get bright and colorful uniforms and hats at the Grove, the barracks where they live during the tournament. When they go to the batting cages for the first time, the rest of their gear is waiting for them. Bats, gloves, helmets, catching gear, you name it, the players are getting it. "They were kids in a candy store, and as a coach, I got goose bumps walking in there and I'm 38 years old, so I can only imagine what the 12-year-olds are thinking about while walking through that door, seeing all the gear they got," said South Dakota's manager, Ryan Vavruska. "We're very fortunate to get here and to be blessed with all that gear." Easton has partnered with Little League for more than 40 years and in 2023 the partnership was extended through 2028. Rawlings merged with Easton in 2021 and is the official glove used in the tournament. "When they opened the roller door down to the batting cages, the stampede started," Australia manager Keith Land said. "These kids are going to be excited to go home and go, 'Look what I've got and look what you haven't got.' They'll rub it in, don't worry about that." After aluminum bats were turning games into home run derbies, Little League in 2018 changed its bat rules to comply with the USABat Standard, which switched the material used to make the bats, so they now perform more like wooden bats. These bats, however, are lighter and easier to swing for 12-year-old players. The standard was created to ensure the "long-term integrity of the game," according to USA Baseball. There are now fewer home runs each year at the LLWS, even if the ball sounds good off the bat. But the players aren't talking about the home runs they may or not hit — they just love having the bat in their hands. Most of them couldn't believe what they were getting. "It was pretty hype," South Dakota's Camden Tycz said. "When we saw the bat table it was just astonishing." Preston Ware's mouth dropped when his team from South Carolina got to the batting cages. He initially thought his whole team would get only one bat to share. "Coach Dave (Bogan) tried to trick me and said, 'Yes,'" Preston said. But quick to jump in wasJoe Giulietti, who hit a grand slam in South Carolina's first game. "Preston," he said, "this isn't like the 1960s. When Coach Dave grew up, they had one bat size." ___ Amanda Vogt is a student in the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism at Penn State. ___ AP sports:https://apnews.com/sports

Getty Queen Camilla was visibly emotional after a World War II veteran paid an off-the-cuff tribute to King Charles and his cancer battle. The 105-year-old veteran, Yavar Abbas, saluted Charles, calling him "my brave King" and sharing that he, too, had battled cancer. Charles's cancer diagnosis was announced in February 2024, and he still is continuing treatment up to the present day. Queen Camillawas visibly moved to tears at a remembrance service marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on August 15. VJ Day stands for Victory over Japan Day, marking the end of World War II in the Pacific theater. To commemorate the occasion, the Queen and her husband,King Charles, took part in the service Friday at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Getty The King and Queen were clearly moved when veteran Yavar Abbas, 105, took to the stage, speaking extemporaneously and "off script" (according toThe Telegraph) about how he, too, has battled cancer like the King. Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, though the type and stage have never been publicly revealed; he is continuing cancer treatment up to the present day. Getty Before reading from his diary, he gave a confident salute to the King seated before him, saying, "I make no apology for going briefly off the script to salute my brave King, who is here with his beloved Queen, despite the fact that he is under treatment for cancer." Getty At this, Camilla's eyes welled up and look at her husband with pride,The Telegraphreported. "And if it provides any comfort…I've been rid of it for the past 25 years and counting," Abbas added. "I salute him for gracing this occasion because by his presence here, he has gone a long way to make sure that his granddad's army is never given the sobriquet again of a Forgotten Army." Getty As Abbas finished his remarks and returned to his seat, he again saluted the King, "who stood up and clasped his hands in warm appreciation," according toThe Telegraph. Later, at a veterans' reception, Charles "greeted Mr. Abbas like an old friend," the outlet reported. "It was quite extraordinary—you didn't have to say that," Charles told Abbas as the pair clasped hands before sitting down together for a cup of tea. Of the King, Abbas said, "I admire the man. He has similar views about things that I have, about the environment, for example. He's human." Getty The Queen has typically shown little emotion publicly surrounding her husband's diagnosis, but of the service on Friday, Camilla said she found it "so incredibly moving." Getty Getty ThoughPrince WilliamandKate Middletonwere at the VE Day (Victory over Europe) commemorations in May, they were not present at yesterday's service. Instead, they senta personal message on social media, writing, "Today, on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served. Today, we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific." "We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful," they added. "Lest we forget." The message was signed "W & C," indicating that it came from the Prince and Princess of Wales themselves. She also wore her Bugle Horn of the Rifles brooch, commissioned for her by the regiment to mark her role as Colonel-in-Chief, a position she took over from her father-in-law,Prince Philip, in 2020, just one year before his death. Phillies closer Jhoan Duran says he's '100 percent' after scareNew Foto - Phillies closer Jhoan Duran says he's '100 percent' after scare

Phillies closer Jhoan Duran said that he is "100 percent" on Saturday, hours after he was carted off the field in a game against the host Washington Nationals. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Duran was not limping ahead of Saturday afternoon's matchup between National League East rivals. "It's crazy, you know?" Duran said. "Yesterday I don't have power in my leg and now I'm normal, like nothing happened." On Duran's fourth pitch of the ninth inning on Friday, Paul DeJong hit a hard grounder that struck the pitcher in the lower leg and bounced toward the first-base line. Duran came off the mound and raced toward the ball before slowing down and then stopping in foul territory. He spoke with manager Rob Thomson and the club's trainers before finally exiting the field after a long delay. "He ran like a shot over to retrieve the ball, and then once he got there, I think the adrenaline wore off and the pain set in," Thomson said. "Before the cart came out, it took a long time and he said, 'I feel better, I think I can walk over to the dugout.' But there's all these steps here and we wanted to use the cart." X-rays were negative on the 27-year-old, who was acquired by the Phillies on July 30 from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for right-handed reliever Mick Abel and minor league catcher Eduardo Tait. One of the hardest-throwing pitchers in the major leagues, Duran is 4-for-4 in save chances for his new club with a 0.00 ERA in four innings. Overall this year, he has 20 saves in 22 opportunities with a 1.86 ERA in 54 appearances. He has 56 strikeouts and 18 walks in 53 1/3 innings. In four major league seasons, the first 3 1/2 with the Twins, Duran is 78-for-87 on save chances with a 17-23 record and a 2.42 ERA in 227 appearances, all in relief. --Field Level Media
