Matthew Stafford returns to Rams practice Monday after weeks of uncertain injury updatesNew Foto - Matthew Stafford returns to Rams practice Monday after weeks of uncertain injury updates

The Los Angeles Rams got some excellent news Monday. After weeks of uncertain injury updates, quarterback Matthew Stafford finally returned to practice. The Rams got out in front of the news, immediatelytweeting out a pictureof Stafford taking the field in a red practice jersey. Stafford took part in drills and didenough to impressRams head coach Sean McVay in limited work, per ESPN. "I thought he did a good job today," Rams head coach Sean McVay said. "We had 26 plays of team, and he did a really nice job of managing the huddle. I thought he saw the field well, I thought he went where the ball should go and there was some good competitive work on both sides today." Despite Stafford's return, McVay opted to play things carefully, deeming Stafford as day-to-day and week-to-week. McVay called it a "very fluid" situation. McVay called it "great" that Stafford was able to get back to practice and said the team will see how he responds the rest of the day and tomorrow. Stafford's return should come as a welcome surprise for Rams fans, who have been given murky updates about the quarterback's back injury throughout training camp. After Stafford missed time early, the team said he was dealing with anaggravated discin his back. Stafford reportedly received an epidural to try and solve the issue. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] It appeared the situation was close to resolving last week, even reaching a point where McVay said Stafford would appear at practice for the next part of his recovery. That didn't happen, prompting more questions about Stafford's status. McVay seemed less certain about Stafford's status after that miscue, leading to some to wonder if the issue was more serious than initially reported. That no longer appears to be the case following Stafford's return to the field Monday. As long as Stafford does not experience any setbacks, he'll have almost three weeks to re-acclimate to the game before the Rams take on the Houston Texans in Week 1. Despite his age, the 37-year-old Stafford remains one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. Last season, Stafford threw for 20 touchdowns against eight interceptions while leading the Rams to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth. Those figures could be even better this season after the team added Davante Adams in free agency. Adams and Puka Nacua are expected to be one of the better receiving duos in the NFL during the 2025 season. If Stafford needs to miss time this season, he'll likely be replaced by former Las Vegas Raiders and 49ers starter Jimmy Garoppolo under center. When Stafford was sidelined during camp, the Rams announced Garoppolo would not take part in the preseason, a sign he'll be the team's No. 2 when the regular season opens.

LikeLuke Skywalkergoing into exile on Ahch-To,Mark Hamillnearly left the United States ahead ofPresident Donald Trump'ssecond term. The "Star Wars" actor, 73, revealedin an interview with The Timespublished Aug. 16 that he weighed moving out of the country after Trump's 2024 election win. Hamill said he told his wife after the election that she could choose whether they would move to London or Ireland. But ultimately, she talked him into staying. "She's very clever," Hamill said. "She didn't respond right away but a week later she said, 'I'm surprised you would allow him to force you out of your own country.'" After his wife's comment, Hamill said he decided, "I'm not leaving." He also told the outlet, "I still believe there are more honest, decent people than there are the MAGA crowd. If I didn't, I'd move back to England." The "Life of Chuck" actor is a longtime critic of Trump who frequently speaks out against him on social media, and he backed formerVice President Kamala Harrisin the 2024 presidential race. Days after formerPresident Joe Bidenended his 2024 reelection bid, Hamillparticipated in a Zoom fundraising callfor Harris dubbed "White Dudes for Harris," during which he praised Biden for "the most legislatively successful administration since Franklin Delano Roosevelt" and urged voters to "stand up to (Trump's) mental illness." After Trump defeated Harris in the presidential election, Hamill reacted with dismay on X,writing, "They say we get the leaders we deserve. Either that has just been disproven, or this is not the America we all thought we were living in." Jimmy Kimmelsays he obtained citizenship in Italy amid Trump presidency During his interview with The Times, Hamill slammed "the bullying" and "the incompetence" under Trump, adding that he deals with it "without going crazy" by imagining he is reading a political novel. "It's entertaining in a way because this could actually be the end," he said. "Our status in the world has been crippled and that will reverberate for decades." Hamill's comments come afterlate-night host Jimmy Kimmelrevealed on "The Sarah Silverman Podcast" that he has obtained Italian citizenship, a move he implied was motivated by Trump and the current political environment in the United States. "A lot of people I know are thinking about where they can get citizenship," Silverman remarked on the podcast, while Kimmel said that Trump's second term is "so much worse" than he expected. Ellen DeGeneresconfirms Trump provoked UK move: It's 'just better' Though Hamill decided not to leave the United States, a few celebrities have pulled the trigger on a move. In July, former talk show hostEllen DeGeneres confirmedthat Trump inspired her and her wife, Portia de Rossi, to relocate to the English countryside. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, '(Trump) got in,'" the comedian said, accordingto the BBCandThe Guardian. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'" In March, comedian Rosie O'Donnell also saidshe left the United States and moved to Ireland, in what she described as the "safest and best thing for us to do." She added that she is "sleeping better without the stress and anxiety over what was happening politically in the country." Trump laterthreatened to revoke O'Donnell's U.S. citizenship, writing on Truth Social in July, "She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her." ThePhiladelphia Eaglesare dealing with an injury to one of their key playmakers ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Wide receiverA.J. Brownhas been absent from practice while dealing with a hamstring injury. TheEagleshave been mum about his status and how much the soft-tissue injury could affect him in the weeks leading up to the team's Sept. 4 season opener against theDallas Cowboys. Here are the latest updates on Brown as his injury lingers into preseason Week 3. Brown is not participating in the Eagles' Monday, Aug. 18 practice because of his hamstring injury. However, Brown's absence appears to be precautionary.NFL Network's Mike Garafoloreports that the Eagles are keeping the veteran receiver sidelined at they "take their time to make sure he doesn't suffer any setbacks." And while Brown wasn't dressed for practice or working out with the receivers, he did take some time to throw to his fellow wide-outs during Monday's session. That's A.J. Brown throwing passes to the WRs.#Eaglespic.twitter.com/RyNoRfp7kh — Jeff Kerr (@JeffKerrCBS)August 18, 2025 It isn't clear exactly how long the Eagles will keep Brown from practicing. Coach Nick Sirianni was focused on getting the veteran receiver ready for Week 1 when asked about his status after practice on Thursday, Aug. 14. "Our goal is to get all these guys ready to be firing on all cylinders once the season hits,"Sirianni told reporters. "Not gonna get into too much of that stuff. He's working through some things, and he'll be back out there when he can." While Sirianni's comments raised some alarm among Eagles fans, Garafolo reported he didn't "sense any great concern" about the long-term availability of the three-time All-Pro second-teamer. "I just sense that it's a guy that they want to make sure that they have right heading into the season,"Garafolo said of Brownin an Aug. 14 appearance on NFL Network. "He's got three weeks to get right. I saw him when I was at the practice. He was moving around on the sideline and certainly engaged. So, A.J. Brown back to work at some point in the near future it feels like is the hope for the Eagles at this point." Brown led the Eagles in receiving yards during the 2024 NFL season. He posted his third consecutive 1,000-yard season, and fifth in six NFL campaigns, while finishing just behindDeVonta Smithin total catches and touchdowns. Below is a look at Brown's stats from 2024: Games: 13 Targets: 97 Receptions: 67 Receiving yards: 1,079 Receiving TDs: 7 Yards per catch: 16.1 Brown also added 12 catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns during the postseason en route to winning his first Super Bowl ring. Brown is the top receiver on Philadelphia's depth chart. Below is a look at how the Eagles' top six receivers currently align, according tothe Eagles' official website. A.J. The Eagles just traded for25-year-old Houston Texans wide receiverJohn Metchie III, so it isn't clear where he will fit into the team's pecking order. It also isn't clear whether Brown's hamstring injury inspired Philadelphia to add more pass-catching depth or if the team simply wanted more competition for Dotson, Wilson, Smith and Marshall. Either way, Brown will remain perched atop the Eagles' depth chart as long as he remains healthy enough to play. High schooler Mason Howell wins U.S. Amateur, becomes youngest golfer to win event since 2009New Foto - High schooler Mason Howell wins U.S. Amateur, becomes youngest golfer to win event since 2009

Mason Howell was supposed to be prepping for the second week of his senior year at Brookwood School in Georgia on Sunday. Instead, he was hoisting a prestigious golf trophy. Howell — a high schooler — took home the win at the U.S. Amateur in dominant fashion Sunday. In doing so, he became the youngest golfer to win the event since 2009 and the third-youngest golfer ever to take home the trophy. Byeong Hun An, who won the event at 17 years old in 2009 and Danny Lee, who picked up a win after just turning 18 in 2008, are the only two golfers younger than Howell to win the event. Howell's win knocked Tiger Woods down to fourth in the ranking. Woods won the U.S. Amateur at 18 years and seven months old in 1994. Howell is 18 years and one-and-half months old. It was an excellent performance by Howell, who defeated teenage golfer Jackson Herrington by alarge margin, per the Associated Press. Howell won it with a par to halve the 30th hole, ending the most-lopsided final since Bryson DeChambeau also beat Derek Bard 7 and 6 in 2015. Howell's name might sound familiar to passionate golf fans. After shooting a 63-63 at the Atlanta sectional, he qualified for the U.S. Open in 2025. He didn't make the cut at the event, but it was an impressive performance for someone still in high school. The U.S. Amateur marked the first time since 2013 that two teenagers played in the final. Herrington, who finished second to Howell on Sunday, is 19. He'll start his sophomore year at the University of Tennessee soon. As for Howell, he'll celebrate the win by ... actually starting his senior year of high school. Brookwood School started its school year last week, when Howell was taking part in the tournament. He'll start the school year a little later than expected, but will have one heck of story to tell his classmates. Once he graduates, Howell is slated to attend the University of Georgia in 2026.

Samir Hussein/WireImage Kate Middleton and Prince William are set to base themselves at their new home, Forest Lodge, even when they become king and queen The couple hopes to move from Adelaide Cottage to the larger, eight-bedroom house with their three children before Christmas Two families living in cottages near Forest Lodge were asked to vacate ahead of the couple's planned move to the residence later this year Kate MiddletonandPrince Williamare putting down roots with their upcoming move, with plans to stay in their new home even upon becoming king and queen. The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, hope tomove into their new home, Forest Lodge, in Windsor, before Christmas, PEOPLE confirmed over the weekend. The Sunwas the first to report the story. Royal sources say it will be theforever homefor the couple and their three children, basing their lives there even when William accedes to the throne. Buckingham Palace, located in central London about 22 miles east of Windsor, has been the main base for the British monarchy. It is currently undergoing a massive $463 millionrenovation program, making much of it unsuitable for use byKing Charlesand other members of the royal family. Charles, 76, stays in his long-term residence of Clarence House when he is in London, while his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, are based elsewhere during this time. Referred to by insiders as "monarch HQ," Buckingham Palace is the center for public life in the U.K. and the focus of national celebrations like the annual Trooping the Colour or this May'sVE Day commemorations. Moreover, it is usually the base for state visits and public investitures honoring the great and the good in British society. English Heritage/Heritage Images/Getty However, with the renovations scheduled to continue until 2027, when King Charles will be 78 and Queen Camilla will be 80, it is not expected that they will move in. Prince William and Princess Kate, with their hopes for a different kind of family life, are unlikely to base themselves there either, it's been widely reported. Forest Lodge, located in Windsor Great Park, is an upgrade from William and Kate's nearby current residence,Adelaide Cottage, where they moved in September 2022. The Georgian mansion, dating back to the 1770s, features eight bedrooms, as opposed to the four at Adelaide Cottage, and is said to have six bathrooms and a tennis court. Since they relocated from London's Kensington Palace in 2022, William and Kate have found that Windsor is perfect for their family life. The couple likes to take the children,Prince George, 12,Princess Charlotte, 10, andPrince Louis, 7, to school, pick them up when they can and be on hand to watch sports games and other activities. It also provides them with more privacy than living in the goldfish bowl that is Kensington Palace in central London. "The Wales family will move house later this year," a spokesperson at Kensington Palace confirmed to PEOPLE on Aug. 16. In keeping with how they have been living at Adelaide Cottage, and in a bid to make their family life as normal as possible for the children, the Prince and Princess of Wales also will not have any live-in staff at Forest Lodge, PEOPLE understands. The children's longstanding nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, and housekeepers will likely stay on other smaller properties on the estate. Jonathan Brady - Pool/Getty The area has the added benefit of being only about a 30-minute drive away from Princess Kate's parents, Carole and Michael, who are very hands-on grandparents to the royal children. The couple, who are funding the renovations themselves, will pay rent for the property to the Crown Estate, the BBC reported. They have started to source furnishings for the property. As heir to the throne, Prince William receives around$30 million a yearfrom the Duchy of Cornwall Estate. Invicta Kent Media/Shutterstock While they have settled in Windsor, their time at Adelaide Cottage has been one of the most challenging times of their lives. Princess Kate underwent gruelingchemotherapy for cancer, which ended last summer, while King Charles was also diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer. He is still receiving treatment. Soon after they settled in Adelaide Cottage, the family also mourned the loss ofQueen Elizabethin September 2022. FIFA hit with $76M claim by Lassana Diarra in decade-long soccer transfer rules caseNew Foto - FIFA hit with $76M claim by Lassana Diarra in decade-long soccer transfer rules case

GENEVA (AP) — Lawyers for former France international Lassana Diarra said Monday he is claiming 65 million euros ($76 million) from FIFA and the Belgian soccer federation after alandmark legal winabout transfer rules. Diarra's decade-long challenge to FIFA after a breakdown in relations with his former club Lokomotiv Moscow led to a ruling at the European Court of Justice last October that some aspects of soccer's transfer rules do not comply with the 27-nation European Union's labor and competition laws. Lawyers for the 40-year-old former Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid midfielder cited "unsuccessful settlement negotiations with FIFA" for the financial claim for damages throughout his career. "Lassana Diarra is claiming €65 million gross (€35 million net) in compensation from FIFA and the Belgian Football Association," his legal firmDupont Hissel said in a statement. FIFA said it would not comment about "on-going legal matters" — the latesthigh-stakes legal challengetoits authority. Soccer's governing body said in a statement it "has been working with its stakeholders to amend its regulations following the guidance offered by the ECJ." Diarra's case, which is back in court in Belgium, issupported by the global players' union FIFPRO, its European division and their national member union in France. The legal case started in the home country of Charleroi, the Belgian club that wanted to sign Diarra after his contract in Moscow was terminated. FIFA transfer rules at the time made the player and the potential signing club liable for paying the former club when a contract was ruled to have been broken without "just cause." The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld FIFA's ruling in favor of Lokomotiv. The case was sent to the European court in Luxembourg which said some aspects of the FIFA rules "hinder the free movement of players and competition between clubs." Diarra's dispute with Lokomotiv and FIFA forced him to miss the 2014-15 season. He then signed for Marseille and ended his career at Paris Saint-Germain six years ago. "I am doing this for myself," Diarra said in a statement Monday published by his lawyers. "And if I have been able to hold out against the FIFA steamroller, it is because I had a good career." "But I have also done it for all the up and coming, lesser known players who do not have the financial and psychological means to challenge FIFA before real judges," he said. Diarra's lawyers also are working on aclass action suitfiled this month against FIFA and some national soccer federations in Europe which claims could benefit 100,000 players over more than two decades. ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

After 'venting' his frustration, Lewis Hamilton could come back stronger from F1's mid-season breakNew Foto - After 'venting' his frustration, Lewis Hamilton could come back stronger from F1's mid-season break

Lewis Hamilton's dream of an eighth Formula 1 title with Ferrari is spinning off track. His comments at the Hungarian Grand Prix in early August sparked concern among fans of Hamilton and Ferrari as the seven-time champion called himself "absolutely useless", suggested Ferrari should consider replacing him, and hinted at deeper issues. "There's a lot going on in the background that is not great,"Hamilton said. Having a four-week break before next week's Dutch Grand Prix offers a much-needed reset, argues Michael E. Sawyer, author of a biography of Hamilton, "Sir Lewis," published this year. "I think he's venting, I think he's down. I think the summer break couldn't have come at a better time for him," Sawyer told The Associated Press. "It gives him a chance to reflect and think through exactly what the approach is going to be." Hamilton certainly seems to be getting away from it all. He posted pictures onsocial medialast week in the countryside with his beloved bulldog Roscoe and the caption "DND" — seemingly short for "do not disturb". Priority problems Ferrari has said it still has faith in Hamilton, though F1's former boss Bernie Ecclestone has urged him to call time on his record-breaking career. Hamilton "would be cheating himself if he goes on," Ecclestone told the Daily Mail newspaper this month. So how might Hamilton find his way back to the front of the F1 field? All too often, he's been off the pace in qualifying on Saturday and down the grid, meaning his typically better race pace is wasted on working his way through the midfield. "Every time, every time," was Hamilton's groan of frustration when he qualified 12th for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Teammate Charles Leclerc was on pole. Qualifying is the area where the break might help Hamilton most, argues Sawyer. He has competitive pace — as he showed while carving through the field on a wet track in Belgium last month — but hasn't brought it on Saturdays. The big picture Hamilton's move to Ferrari was never all about 2025. The team made clear that signing Hamilton was a long-term project despite his age — he turned 40 in January — and backed him when he said he needed time to adapt to a different car. When he hasn't been venting about his results on track, Hamilton has emphasized his role in creating Ferrari's car for 2026, when new F1 regulations will shake up the running order. Making Hamilton a core part of the 2026 car's design philosophy means "there's reason for him to be really optimistic about the possibilities because there's going to be so much shifting around on the grid," Sawyer said. "There's going to be opportunity for someone as savvy and experienced as him to take advantage of that." Chasing the 'greatest' title The worst-case scenario for Ferrari would likely be an unexpected Hamilton retirement, denting the brand's image and leaving the team without a high-level driver to partner Leclerc next season. Of its two reserve drivers, Zhou Guanyu has a career-best race finish of eighth at Sauber and Antonio Giovinazzi's last F1 race was in 2021. Ferrari could also call on Oliver Bearman, the Haas rookie. Still, if Ferrari's big bet pays off, Hamilton has the potential to redefine what F1 success means once again. He turns 41 in January and will be racing for an eighth world title to break a tie with Michael Schumacher and stand alone in the record books. Hamilton could become theoldestrace winner since 1994 and oldest champion since 1966. Sawyer believes it would best all of his other titles. "I don't think there's any doubt about that," said Sawyer. "I think it would be the greatest of them all. The comeback story would be amazing." ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing
