DENVER (AP) — This was a cool moment for Warming Bernabel — being doused with an icy bucket of water. Not that long ago, winning moments like this were few and far between for the Colorado Rockies. That winning feeling, though, has returned a little more often in the second half of the season. The Rockies rallied to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers4-3 on Monday nightcourtesy of Bernabel's walk-off single in the ninth inning. With that, the Rockies snapped a 10-game skid against the Dodgers. They also tied their season-high winning streak of four games. Even more, they're 14-15 since the All-Star break, while the NL West-leading Dodgers are 13-15. Colorado still trails the defending World Series champions by 35 games in the standings. No longer are the Rockies in imminent danger of setting a modern-era major league mark for losses, though. At 36-89, Colorado needs to win six of its final 37 games to steer clear of the dubious record set by the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who finished41-121. "We're at this stage right now where we're trying to get better as a team," All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman said. "We're trying to play the game the right way and do things to put us in a position in the future to get to the spot that some of these teams we're playing against are in." Colorado has won five series since the All-Star break. That after winning just two series before the break. "You definitely see flashes," Goodman said. "We're a super-young team. But getting that learning experience and figuring out how to win at this level and how to do it together as a team has been pretty cool to watch the last month or so." The last time Colorado beat the Dodgers was Sept. 21. It's been a little longer since the Rockies last beat Los Angeles at Coors Field — June 19, 2024, to be precise. "It's good to get a win. We're playing good baseball right now," Goodman said. "It's just going out and playing clean baseball and playing the way we've been playing." The Dodgers entered the four-game series in the Mile High City fresh off a sweep of rival San Diego. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts insisted his team wouldn't overlook the Rockies. "We're going to get their best. We're prepared for that," Roberts said before the game. "But yeah, absolutely, teams try to kind of use us as a marker. We see that." In the ninth inning, the Dodgers were playing their outfielders deep to prevent a double. It ended up costing them one. Ezequiel Tovar started a one-out rally with a bloop double that a charging Teoscar Hernández couldn't haul in. "It's a big outfield," Hernández explained. "I tried to make a play. I didn't." Bernabel followed by sending a pitch from Justin Wrobleski (4-5) up the middle to bring home Tovar. "There's no cooler way to win a game in baseball than a walk-off," Goodman said. "It's always fun when that happens." ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/MLB

James Gilbert/PGA TOUR/Getty Ben Griffin said that he consumed a "snowball" sized clump of creatine on the golf course during the 2025 BMW Championship The professional golfer said that he "started getting super shaky" and felt like he "had tremors" Griffin, who explained what had happened to reporters afterward, said that his caddie stepped into help him handle the situation mid-tournament Ben Griffin had a different kind of pre-game jitters. The professional golfer, 29, opened up about a match mishap that took place on the course during the 2025 BMW Championship on Sunday, Aug. 17, in Baltimore. Griffin's game was off to a shocking start in the final round, when he four-putted the first hole from four feet and then hit his tee shot out of bounds on the second hole at Caves Valley Golf Club. He was six over for the day by the time he walked off the third green. After his round, the athlete provided an explanation for his unexpected start — or "an interesting story," as he phrased itwhen speaking with reportersafter the round. James Gilbert/PGA TOUR/Getty "So, I take creatine as a supplement, and this time I didn't take it until I basically tee'd off on 1. I was at the end of my batch. I had basically a snowball of creatine because it had been in my bucket for a month and broke it up and put in any water bottle," he shared. According tothe Mayo Clinic, creatine can be taken to "improve athletic performance and increase muscle mass." The supplement comes in multiple forms, including powders, tablet, capsules and liquid. The organization notes that creatine may "benefit athletes who need short bursts of speed or increased muscle strength, such as sprinters, weight lifters and team sport athletes." Wait…Ben Griffin overdosed on creatine DURING the final round?!pic.twitter.com/VFp9k4zcu9 — Jamie Kennedy (@jamierkennedy)August 17, 2025 The North Carolina native said he thought he was "all good" because he'd taken creatine on the golf course before. But, he experienced some unpleasant effects after consuming more of the supplement than usual. "I started taking it after my second shot, and I accidentally swallowed one of the big rocks in my water bottle," he explained. "I've never 'overdosed' on creatine before, but I think I did in the moment because I didn't really drink any water after that." "I basically just inhaled a snowball," he continued. "So, I started getting super shaky. I've never felt like that before and I felt like I had tremors." The Cleveland Clinicsays creatine is "relatively safe," but notes that side effects can include weight gain due to water retention, as well as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and excessive sweating. Kevin C. Cox/Getty After his 4-put on one, the PGA player admitted that he was "freaking out" and "didn't know what to do" because he hit it "so far" out of bounds. Fortunately, his caddie suggested he "chug a whole water" in attempt to calm down. "I hit the other one in play and then I was fine," he said, adding, "I ended up making, whatever, a double on that hole and bogeyed the next hole." Griffin said he was aware of his game as it was happening. In fact, he was "confident going into the round." However, the "unfortunate" creatine consumption threw him off both mentally and physically. "It was a weird feeling," he said. "I honestly got to the, whatever, third tee box and I was like, 'Well, I'm fine.' Let's pretend like that didn't happen. Kind of sucks in the moment. Damn, I wish I could have reset my round and go back to one now because I felt good." Sorority Goes Viral With 'Survivor' Inspired Work Week Theme: 'The Sisters Have Spoken'originally appeared onParade. It is safe to say that the members of Alpha Chi Omega at University of North Carolina Wilmington are majorSurvivorfans. For those who are unfamiliar with the ins and outs of Greek life, ahead of primary recruitment — which typically occurs in the fall, taking place before the first day of classes — Panhellenic sororities gather for an event called "Work Week." During "Work Week" — which typically takes place over several days — members prepare for primary recruitment alongside their sorority sisters, all while dressing up, taking photos, making TikTok videos and more to promote the chapter. While the dress up themes are often simple like "Western" or "Space," AXO at UNC Wilmington went a different route this year, creating a theme inspired by CBS' Emmy Award-winning competition series:Survivor. "Tribal Council has spoken…WE ARE READY FOR RECRUITMENT!!! 🩵🏝️🗺️" the chapter captioned a video on the sorority's official TikTok account. In said video, the members are seen dancing to "Rock That Body" by the Black Eyed Peas, doing the choreo that was recently made famous by the 2025 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Talk about a reality TV crossover! While many sororities have utilized the viral DCC choreo for their "Work Week" content, the outfits are what made AXO at UNC Wilmington's TikTok video so unique. While a majority of the women are seen rocking buffs, some members went so far as to dress as host Jeff Probst. In the back, one is even dressed in the iconic "I Love Rob" shirt that Amber Brkich wore during the live finale ofSurvivor: All-Stars, where she took home the title of "Sole Survivor and the million-dollar prize AND got proposed to by "Boston" Rob Mariano. How iconic is that? Naturally, fans had a field day in the comment section of the post, with one viewer writing, "I'd join a sorority just for this theme," and another viewer adding, "Now this is a sorority I would rush." "The 'I ❤️ Rob' girl is the star of the show, put her front and center she knows ball," a third commented. Survivor's official TikTok account even got a piece of all the action — writing "The sisters have spoken 😌😌😌" in the comment section of the post — as well as former castaways. "Finally a theme worth playing for,"Survivor 43finalist Owen Knight joked. Also, Activist Artist Management, Franti's longtime management company, has parted with the artist, according toBillboard. The controversy surrounding Franti went public with Canal's Aug. 11 birthday post onInstagram, titled "TW: Sexual Abuse, Grooming," in which the singer claimed that an unnamed older male musician had groomed her and took pictures of her without her consent. "I was a virgin, it feels important to say. Also to say, for many months I wasn't provided my own accommodation in this situation (though I had the same job as every other hired musician whowasprovided accommodation), so if I wanted a bed to sleep in and a shower to use, he made sure it was his," part of the post reads. Franti responded with his ownInstagrampost on Aug. 17, in which he admitted to cheating on his wife and seemingly responded to Canal's accusations, without mentioning her name. "I'm aware of the recent posts this artist made about our relationship, and while I support her need to express herself publicly, the relationship was completely consensual, based on mutual feelings and attraction," he wrote. "I vehemently dispute any version of the story that says otherwise. I will however, take full accountability for not better recognizing the power imbalance as she was younger than me, and I was the headliner on tour. For those reasons alone, I never should have allowed the relationship to become romantic." Over on the Soulshine at Sea Instagram account, fans debated whether Franti should be forgiven or canceled. "Did anyone read his statement? The man has ATONED. He doesn't deserve to be cancelled," one fan wrote. "he refused to take accountability for the most serious allegations... no one is cancelling him for cheating on his wife, but for preying on and assaulting younger artists in the industry," another one responded. Texas Tech RB Quinten Joyner tears ACL in scrimmage, will miss seasonNew Foto - Texas Tech RB Quinten Joyner tears ACL in scrimmage, will miss season

Quinten Joyner's first season with the Red Raiders will have to wait. Joyner tore his ACL after he went down with a noncontact knee injury in the team's scrimmage on Saturday, head coach Joey McGuire confirmed on his podcast on Monday, via ESPN. No. 23 Texas Tech will now be without the running back for the entire 2025 season. Joyner transferred into Texas Tech this past offseason after spending his first two years at USC. He racked up 478 rushing yards and had four total touchdowns while averaging 7.6 yards per carry with the Trojans last season while largely backing up Woody Marks. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Joyner, who was a four-starRivals.comrecruit out of the Austin area in Texas, then opted to move back to the state and join the Red Raiders. He was expected to start and be a key piece to their offense this season. The team will now likely have to lean on Cameron Dickey and J'Koby Williams in his place. Both players are returning from last season, though neither ran for more than 250 yards. "I hate it so much for him, just because of how well he has done in the spring, summer and camp," McGuire said of Joyner. "He has really come in here and been a pro, and we've asked him to do a lot of stuff that he hasn't done before. ... He's really taken to it, so it's unfortunate." Texas Tech is entering the season coming off an 8-5 campaign under head coach Joey McGuire last fall. The Red Raiders sit in a pretty wide-open Big 12 conference, with No. 11 Arizona State, No. 17 Kansas State and No. 21 Iowa State also in the mix. Texas Tech will officially open the season on Aug. 30 when it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff. While the Red Raiders can still make a run in the Big 12 this fall, it's undoubtedly going to be much more difficult without Joyner available.

Zack Wheeler's recovery timetable from a blood clot remains unknown for PhilliesNew Foto - Zack Wheeler's recovery timetable from a blood clot remains unknown for Phillies

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler underwent a procedure Monday morning to remove a blood clotin his "right upper extremity," the team announced. Wheeler was initially placed on the injured list followingSaturday's game in Washington. As of Monday afternoon, the Phillies have yet to disclose or develop a timetable for a possible return to the mound, but did convey that the procedure was deemed a success. During his pregame availability with the media Monday afternoon, Phillies manager Rob Thomson was asked whether he thought Wheeler, indisputably one of the game's best pitchers, would pitch again this season. "We don't know," Thomson said. "We don't know until we get further information." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The serious nature of Wheeler's condition means that Thomson and the Phillies have, understandably, been most concerned with the hurler's general well-being. Blood clots, left untreated, can be life-threatening, particularly for those who travel often. Monday's announcement of a successful surgery appears to be positive news on that front. "A lot of people ask me about the pitching staff and the team, right now my thoughts are just about him. I said the other day, this isn't like a hamstring or a calf," Thomson said. "This is real, this is life. So my thoughts are constantly on him and his family. Hopefully everything works out, so far so good." Wheeler first reported discomfort after his most recent start, afive-inning outing against the Nationals on Friday night. According to the team, Wheeler felt a heaviness in his shoulder that was abnormal for him. Evaluations the following day uncovered the blood clot. Though the specifics of his situation are not publicly known, it is very likely that Wheeler will need to go on blood thinners after his surgery Monday. That would almost certainly prohibit him from retaking the mound anytime soon. Playing sports on blood thinners, even a non-contact sport like baseball, is incredibly dangerous due to the increased risk of bleeding. A similar situation keptSan Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama off the court for the second half of this NBA seasonafter he was found to have a vein issue in his right shoulder. New England Patriots defensive tackleChristian Barmore, the second-highest paid player in franchise history, was diagnosed with blood clots last season. He missed the majority of the season after the diagnosis. There is a track record, albeit small, of blood clots and vascular issues affecting MLB pitchers. Most often, that manifests in the form of thoracic outlet syndrome, or TOS, a condition where blood vessels and nerves get pinched just below the collarbone. Though Wheeler has not, to this point, been diagnosed with TOS, the procedure he underwent, according toWill Carroll of Under The Knife, is similar and often precedes a similar rehab process. In August of 2020, currentRangers pitcher Merrill Kellyhad TOS surgery to remove a blood clot in his shoulder. The thenArizona Diamondbackmissed the remainder of that season, but returned the following year and continued to pitch well. Kelly's experience with TOS varies wildly from, say, that of formerNationalsace Stephen Strasburg, whose career was derailed by the condition. It is worth noting that the type of TOS that afflicted Strasburg, called neurogenic TOS, tends to be much more debilitating than the vascular TOS that Kelly suffered from. How this all relates to Wheeler remains to be seen. The 35-year-old right-hander had been in the midst of another superb season. Wheeler currently leads the National League in strikeouts with 195 and slots in fifth in ERA with a 2.71. He was firmly in the mix, alongsidePirates flamethrower Paul Skenes, to win the first Cy Young of his already sensational career. From a baseball perspective, Wheeler's absence will undoubtedly inconvenience a Phillies team currentlyfive games up on the New York Mets in the National League East. Wheeler would have been the best pitcher on the NL side of the playoff bracket and surely would have started Game 1 of the team's first series. But while Wheeler's consistent dominance is irreplaceable, the Phillies are relatively well-suited to weather his absence. SouthpawCristopher Sánchezlooks slated to finish in the top three of NL Cy Young voting as well. He has a sparkling 2.45 ERA across 24 starts. Behind Sánchez, the Phillies have a quartet of dependable options.Ranger Suárez(3.28 in 18 starts) has struggled of late, but had a 10-start stretch over the summer where he was the best arm in MLB.Jesús Luzardo(4.21 in 25 starts) has rolled through ups and downs in his first year with the Phillies, but looks like a frontline arm when he's on. Taijuan Walker (3.34 in 15 starts) entered the year as an afterthought, but has delivered a very impressive bounce-back campaign.Aaron Nola (6.92 ERA) returned from the IL on Sundayafter missing three months with a foot issue. He was not sharp in his first start back and was underperforming before the injury, but Nola has a long enough résumé to inspire some level of confidence. Top prospectAndrew Painter(5.15 in 21 MiLB starts) was expected to join the big-league club this summer, but the heralded 22-year-old has underwhelmed in Triple-A. He remains something of a wild card. None of those characters, obviously, will match the reliability and the impact Wheeler would have provided. Since joining the Phillies in 2020, the bald Georgian leads all qualified MLB pitchers in innings and fWAR. He has established himself as a generational talent, one undeniably worthy of the record-breaking three-year, $126 million contract he received last spring. That $42 million annual average value is the highest in MLB history. Wheeler has also endeared himself to a fan base, a franchise and the entire Phillies community. He is understated, but wry. Unrelentingly fierce, but kind. Appreciated in his own clubhouse and immensely respected in the 29 others.

Jimmy Kimmel says voting for Stephen Colbert at the Emmys is the 'least we could do at this point'New Foto - Jimmy Kimmel says voting for Stephen Colbert at the Emmys is the 'least we could do at this point'

FOX Image Collection via Getty Jimmy Kimmelis advocating for his friend and fellow late-night hostStephen Colbertto finally nab the hard-fought-for Outstanding Talk Series win at the Emmys this year. In a conversation withVarietyshortly after CBS' parent company, Paramount, announced thatThe Late Showwill endin May amid its Trump administration-sanctioned $8 billion merger with Skydance, Kimmel explained to the outlet why he chose to usehis show's FYC billboardto declare his intention to vote for Colbert. "Well, it seems like voting for Stephen is the least we could do at this point, and I think it will be a nice statement if he does win," Kimmel said. "Obviously, awards don't mean much, but every once in a while they do, and in this case, I think it will. So I fully expect Stephen to win the Emmy as I think people are very, very upset about what happened to him and his show." Randy Holmes/Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Colbert's show has been nominated nine years in a row but has never won in the category. When asked why people should vote for Colbert's show, Kimmel complimented the late-night host for being a "very ethical person." He continued, "He is the salt of the earth. He is a humble person and an extremely smart person. I hope that whatever he does next is even more powerful than what he'd been doing. And I think that's very possible." The announcement ofThe Late Show's cancellation, which will end the franchise after it has aired for 33 years, provoked backlash from famous faces and fans alike. Sen.Elizabeth Warren— who has been candid about her disapproval over Paramount settling the lawsuit brought by Trump over a 202460 Minutesinterviewwith his contender in that year's presidential election,Kamala Harris— is among the move's most vocal detractors. "CBS canceled Colbert's show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump — a deal that looks like bribery," the Massachusetts senatorwrote on Xon Thursday. "America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons. Watch and share his message." "The idea...is beyond nonsensical. These alleged insiders who supposedly analyze the budgets of the shows — I don't know who they are, but I do know they don't know what they're talking about," Kimmel asserted. "They seem to only be focused on advertising revenue and have completely forgotten about affiliate fees, which number in the hundreds of millions — probably in total billions — and you must allocate a certain percentage of those fees to late-night shows." Kimmel countered that it is "surprising how little the media seems to know about how the media works." "There's just not a snowball's chance in hell that that's anywhere near accurate. Even that — that's all you need to know. Suddenly, he's losing $40 million a year? I will tell you, the first 10 years I did the show, they claimed we weren't making any money — and we had five times as many viewers on ABC as we do now," Kimmel said of his late-night show. "Who knows what's true? All I know is they keep paying us —and that's kind of all you need to know." Scott Kowalchyk/CBS Many critics have questioned the timing of the announcement, pointing out that Colbert had recently criticized CBS' corporate parent, Paramount Global, for agreeing to pay $16 million to PresidentDonald Trumpover an interview with former Vice PresidentKamala Harristhat aired on60 Minutesin November. Trump has long disliked late-night hosts' jokes about his administration andcelebrated news ofThe Late Show's cancellationon social media, writing that Colbert's "talent was even less than his ratings." He then praised Fox News late-night comedian Greg Gutfeld, who Trump wrote "is better than all of them combined, including the moron on NBC who ruined the once greatTonight Show," referring toJimmy Fallon. For his part, Colberthas not backed down, continuing to openly criticize Trump and his administration throughout the president's second term. Toronto Raptors offer update on leadership after Masai Ujiri departureNew Foto - Toronto Raptors offer update on leadership after Masai Ujiri departure

To fill the void left by their firing of former team president Masai Ujiri, theToronto Raptorsare promoting from within. The team announced Monday, Aug. 18 that it has extended the contract of general manager Bobby Webster. The Raptors also indicated they will not appoint a president to replace Ujiri —who was fired on June 27— and that Webster will serve as head of basketball operations, with support from the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) leadership. "Going through this comprehensive process this summer and meeting with external candidates played a critical role in arriving at this decision as it made clear that we already have the right person leading the Raptors in- house," MLSE president and CEO Keith Pelley said Monday in a statement. "When we weighed the many considerations, including roster construction, team culture and competitive landscape, it made perfect sense to officially hand the team to Bobby and give him the time and support to allow his plan to develop." Webster, 40, got his start in the NBA in the league office, where he spent seven seasons under former commissioner David Stern and current head Adam Silver. Webster was instrumental in negotiating the 2011 collective bargaining agreement with the National Basketball Players Association. Webster then joined the Raptors, where he has served in the front office 13 seasons, nine as general manager. "After spending time together this summer in Las Vegas, I was very impressed by Bobby's leadership style, his rapport with the players and staff, his reputation with his peers across the league and — especially and importantly — his vision for the Raptors," Pelley said. "This team is his, now, to lead and I know we all look forward to what comes next." Alongside Ujiri, Webster was one of the key figures in building the Raptors roster that won the 2019 NBA Finals, whenthey beat the Golden State Warriors in six games. Webster had a hand in roster construction, organizational structure and daily operations. Since then, the Raptors have made the postseason just twice in six years, failing to get out of the second round. A big factor in that was the departure of star forward Kawhi Leonard, who played just one season in Torontobefore he signed with the Clippers in July 2019. And then, bytrading forward Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers in January 2024, the Raptors signaled that they would be entering a rebuild. The Raptors went 30-52 last season, which placed them 11th in the Eastern Conference and out of the play-in picture. "I'm grateful to Keith, to the board, and to our ownership for this opportunity — the chance to continue the work that I love, for a team, a city, and country that's become home," Webster said Monday in a statement. "The things that are important to me — a deep love for basketball, thoughtful and empowering leadership, and a competitive fire — are the pillars of who I am as a leader. That's what you'll see from me every day. This is a new chapter in Raptors basketball, but one thing that will not change is our passion for winning, and our goal to bring another championship to Toronto." Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz won the Cincinnati Open title on Monday when top-seeded Jannik Sinner retired due to illness in the first set in Mason, Ohio. Sinner labored from the start in the intense heat and Alcaraz took advantage and took a 5-0 before a highly emotional Sinner called it a day after 23 minutes. Alcaraz won 21 of the 29 points and Sinner committed a whopping nine unforced errors before he retired. "I'm really sorry to have to pull out today," Sinner told the crowd during the trophy ceremony. "I'm super, super sorry to disappoint you." Sinner, who turned 24 on Saturday, said he started to feel ill Sunday and hoped his health would improve overnight. Instead, the Italian star said he felt worse. "I tried to come out and tried to make it at least a small match but I couldn't handle more so I'm very, very sorry for all of you," Sinner said. "I know that maybe some of you on Monday had to work or had to do something else so I'm really, really sorry." Alcaraz improved to 9-5 against Sinner in his career and a dominant 8-1 in all ATP 1000-level finals, but he would have preferred having a slugfest Monday as opposed to the short time on court. The 22-year-old from Spain is the youngest men's champion of the Cincinnati Open since Britain's Andy Murray (age 21) in 2008. "This is not the way I want to win this trophy," Alcaraz said, before looking at Sinner. "I've told you many times you are a truly great champion. I'm pretty sure you will come back better and even stronger, you always do." Sinner and Alcaraz will again be favorites to reach the final of the U.S. Open, which starts Sunday in New York. Alcaraz has won five titles in his last seven events, including a classic five-set win over Sinner to take the French Open crown. Sinner was 31-3 this year before Monday and won two major titles -- the Australian Open and Wimbledon. "It was a great tournament for me," Alcaraz told the crowd. "... Thank you for the week and I'm blessed I was part of the tournament this year." Sinner was the defending Cincinnati Open champion. --Field Level Media
