Rick Carlisle agrees to multi-year extension with Indiana Pacers: ReportsNew Foto - Rick Carlisle agrees to multi-year extension with Indiana Pacers: Reports

Rick Carlisle has agreed to a multi-year extension with the Indiana Pacers, longtime NBA insider Marc SteinreportedTuesday. Otherreportshave sinceconfirmedthe news. Carlisle, 65, led the Pacers to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000, and their second all time, this past season. In pursuit of their first NBA championship, they fell to the 68-win Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games. Still, Carlisle pilotedone of the more unexpected and memorable playoff runs in recent league history. In his fourth year leading the franchise, Indiana won 50 games and earned the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. A year removed from making a similar magical carpet ride to the Eastern Conference finals, the Pacers dazzled again and this time carried their mojo into June. Indiana knocked out the Milwaukee Bucks in five games, then ousted the conference's top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five more. While both the Bucks and Cavaliers dealt with injury issues, the run-and-gun Pacers proved they belonged in the upper echelon of the East with a collection of dominant wins and a few others that went down to the wire, when star point guard Tyrese Haliburton thrived and wowed. Haliburton made a habit of delivering clutch shots in the postseason, ushering in dramatic victories and rendering an anonymous player poll from earlier in the year completely obsolete. The two-time All-Star was votedthe "most overrated" player in the league. He flushed that narrative once more in the Eastern Conference finals with a game-tying, buzzer-beating bucket to force overtime against the New York Knicks in the series opener, and then again in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, thanks to a last-second, game-winning jumper that completed another comeback. Indiana took care of the Knicks in six games, but Haliburton'sAchilles tearearly in Game 7 of the NBA Finals was a gut punch to Indiana's underdog effort. The Pacers will be without Haliburton next season as he recovers from his devastating injury. They also won't have longtime center Myles Turner, whosurprisingly signed with the Bucks in free agency. But Indiana will have plenty of other pieces from the 2024-25 team and Carlisle at the helm. Carlisle, who won an NBA championship as a player with the Boston Celtics in 1986, famously guided the Dallas Mavericks to a title in 2011. That Dirk Nowitzki-led, six-game triumph over the Miami Heat's LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh took place in Carlisle's third of 11 seasons coaching the Mavericks. He took the Pacers job, for the second time in his career, ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, which started an expedited rebuild in Indiana. After winning a combined 60 games the first two seasons of his second go-around as the franchise's head coach, the Pacers broke out in Year 3 with the first of their two straight Eastern Conference finals appearances. Carlisle's 81 playoff wins are currently tied for the 10th most all time among coaches in NBA history.

Ozzy Osbourne documentary postponed at last minute to respect 'family's wishes'New Foto - Ozzy Osbourne documentary postponed at last minute to respect 'family's wishes'

A documentary aboutOzzy Osbournehas been postponed out of respect for the late rock icon's family, according to the BBC. "Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home," which was described as a "moving and inspirational account of the last chapter of Ozzy's life," was set to air Monday, Aug. 18 on BBC One, but it was pulled from the schedule at the last minute. The networksaid the documentaryhas "moved in the schedules," but a new date was not announced. "Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time," a BBC spokesperson told USA TODAY. "We are respecting the family's wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film." The BBC spokesperson added that a new date "will be confirmed shortly." Rock star Ozzy Osbournedies at 76, weeks after final Black Sabbath show The BBC confirmed the original Aug. 18 air date for "Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home" earlier in August. At the time, the network said the one-hour documentary was filmed over the course of three years with "unique and intimate access" to the Osbourne family, including the rock star's wifeSharonand their children Jack andKelly. Former bandmate recounts Ozzy Osbourne's'beautiful' private funeral The film "captures the extraordinary roller-coaster of their lives as Sharon and Ozzy attempt to complete their long-held dream of moving back to the UK, Ozzy heroically battles to get fit enough to perform, and the family deal with the dramatic consequences of his ill-health," the BBC said. "It's a remarkably candid and uplifting tribute to one of the world's true icons, and documents the first family of rock as they are forced to accept that, as Kelly says in the film, 'Iron man wasn't really made of iron,'" per the network. Osbourne died on July 22 at age 76, weeks afterperforming a farewell show with Black Sabbath. Hiscause of deathwas determined to be a heart attack, according to The New York Times. Seven bold possibilities for 2025 college football season that aren't crazyNew Foto - Seven bold possibilities for 2025 college football season that aren't crazy

If you're looking for crazy preseason takes on the2025 college football season, cue up any ofDiego Pavia's recent interviews. Vanderbilt's cocksure quarterback recently left Paul Finebaum of the SEC Network speechless after Pavia confidently declared Vanderbilt a national championship contender, on the heels of going 7-6 last season. Credit Pavia for managing that claim with a straight face. Amused though I am by Pavia's boasts, I'm drawing the line in this space short of crazy and offering some bold – but not crazy – possibilities that could happen this season, before issuing a verdict on whether each of these bold possibilities will come to fruition. PATH TO PLAYOFF:Sign up for our college football newsletter Why this counts as a bold take:Each of the past five national champions were ranked in the preseason top five of theUS LBM Coaches Poll. Why this take isn't crazy:Potential party crashers populate the Nos. 6 through 10 spots in the coaches poll: No. 6Clemson: The Tigers bring back one of the nation's best quarterbacks in Cade Klubnik, amid a swath of returning production. They're armed with an elite defensive line. No. 7Oregon: The Ducks totaled 45 victories the past four seasons. They offer good value at this position in the rankings. No. 8Alabama: It's Alabama. Need I say more? Never count out a program that consistently signs ballyhooed recruiting classes. No. 9LSU: The Tigers will pair a top-shelf quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, with the nation's most impressive transfer class. No. 10Miami: If Carson Beck regains his 2023 form, the Hurricanes become dangerous. What I think will happen:No. 1 Texas will win the national championship behind Arch Manning. Why this counts as a bold take:A quarterback won the Heisman in 12 of the past 15 years, and there's no shortage of quarterback star power, from Nussmeier to Klubnik to Beck to Manning to Penn State's Drew Allar and beyond. Why this take isn't crazy:Good though the crop of quarterbacks is, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is the nation's most incomparable player. He'll captivate voters while starring for a team that will remain among the nation's elite. What I think will happen:I'm predicting this bold take will become reality. Smith will win the Heisman. Why this counts as a bold take:Few players have received as much hype as Manning, who possesses the talent to live up to his surname. Why this take isn't crazy:Texas likely will lean on a balanced offensive approach that incorporates running backs Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter working behind a dependable offensive line. What I think will happen:Manning will enjoy a fine season. I like his chances to be among the Heisman finalists, but Nussmeier will lead the SEC in passing yards. He's the nation's only returning quarterback who passed for 4,000 yards last year, and LSU is loaded with standout wide receivers. Why this counts as a bold take:This prediction depends on multiple dark horses emerging, like Indiana andArizona Statedid in 2024. Why this take isn't crazy:Last year, four teams unranked in the preseason made the playoff, withBoise Stateand SMU joining Indiana and Arizona State. This bold take doesn't require 2025 to match the zaniness of last season, only for it to come close. Boise State is the only ranked Group of Five team, so if any team other than the Broncos claims the Group of Five's automatic bid, that's a start toward three unranked teams qualifying. The Big 12 remains unpredictable, and 12 of its 16 teams begin unranked. Unranked teams like Oklahoma, Baylor, Missouri and Nebraska intrigue me as playoff sleepers. What I think will happen:Two teams unranked in the preseason will make the playoff. Why this counts as a bold take:SEC firings have tapered off the past few years after a particularly active coaching carousel in 2020. Large buyouts and schools' financial demands to pay athletes create more pause toward coaching changes. Why this take isn't crazy:A handful of SEC coaches are on the hot seat, from Arkansas' Sam Pittman to Auburn's Hugh Freeze. Oklahoma's Brent Venables and Florida's Billy Napier encounter pivotal seasons, while staring down the nation's two toughest schedules. Their teams could be better, but their rugged schedules might limit win-loss improvement. Kentucky has lost momentum under Mark Stoops, although he's among embattled coaches who enjoy the protection of an immense buyout. No SEC coaches were fired last season. That's groundwork for a much more active coaching carousel this year. What I think will happen:Two SEC coaches will be fired, but a few others will survive the heat. Why this counts as a bold take:The SEC has dominated the College Football Playoff era, and nine SEC teams are ranked in the preseason coaches poll, compared to six ranked Big Ten teams. Why this take isn't crazy:The Big Ten's cream the past two seasons proved sweeter than the SEC's. The SEC enjoys an edge in terms of quality depth, but the Big Ten touts national title contenders in Penn State and Ohio State. Also, Michigan should improve after the arrival of five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. If last year serves as a guide to selecting the 12-team playoff, then it's a race to finishing 10-2 or better. The Big Ten's softer underbelly becomes an advantage toveteran teams like Illinois, which can pursue a playoff bid while facing only two teams ranked in the preseason poll. Compare that to Florida, which will face seven teams ranked in the preseason. If the playoff doubled in size to 24 teams, the SEC's depth would allow it to commandeer the playoff, but in the playoff's current form, the Big Ten is well positioned with a couple of elite teams and a few others equipped to chase 10-2. What I think will happen:The SEC will rebound after a bit of a down season and will qualify as many or more playoff teams as the Big Ten. Why this counts as a bold take:The SEC dominated the four-team playoff era, but the Big Ten has ruled the past two seasons, and the SEC accounted for just 25% of inaugural 12-team playoff bracket. The Big Ten possesses two elite teams in Ohio State and Penn State, and Clemson and Notre Dame profile as championship contenders, too. Why this take isn't crazy:The SEC features no shortage of playoff contenders. The preseason polls tell you that. The conference also includes more national championship contenders than any other league, with Texas, Georgia, Alabama and LSU headlining that list. The playoff's restructured bye rules will allow multiple teams from the same conference to receive first-round byes and make it easier for one conference to push two teams into the national championship. What I think will happen:The SEC will produce the national champion, but not the national runner-up. Blake Toppmeyeris the USA TODAY Network's national college football columnist. Oklahoma sells fan access to postgame press conferences for almost $700New Foto - Oklahoma sells fan access to postgame press conferences for almost $700

Oklahoma is offering fans a chance to attend postgame press conferences, but it won't be cheap. It's one of the "Sooner Magic Memories" offerings the program has created to give fans greater access this season. The cost for two people to sit in on the media session after the Oklahoma-Michigan nonconference showdown on September 6 is $692.11. For the Southeastern Conference home opener September 20 against Auburn, it's $576.86. "Get exclusive postgame media access for you and one guest and see where real-time reactions unfold," the advertisement says. "Hear OU coaches and players address reporters moments after the final whistle. Watch the story take shape through the questions, the insights, and the atmosphere that set the headlines." The Michigan and Auburn numbers might seem steep, but the cost for the Illinois State season opener on August 30 is $461.61 – and it's already sold out. Other offerings include pregame photos on the 50-yard line, a high five tunnel, game ball delivery and halftime field access. Athletic departments across the country are looking for new revenue sources as the cost of fielding teams and attracting top talent rises in the NIL era. The House settlement that took effect July 1 allows each participating school to shareup to $20.5 millionin revenue directly with their athletes even as more than $2.5 billion is paid back to current and former athletes who sued over restrictions on their ability to earn compensation. Colman Domingo reveals almost accidentally joined a cultNew Foto - Colman Domingo reveals almost accidentally joined a cult

Well, this is awkward. While most people worry about accidentally ordering the wrong coffee or taking a wrong turn on vacation, Emmy-nominated actorColman Domingohad a slightly more dramatic oops moment during his recent trip to Mexico City. Turns out, he almost accidentally joined a cult. The "Euphoria" and "Sing Sing" star recently spilled the beans about his bizarre encounter during an interview forLast Mealshosted byMythical ChefJosh Scherer, and honestly, it's the kind of story that makes you want to double-check every friendly group you meet while traveling. "I accidentally almost joined the call in Mexico City a couple months ago," Domingo explained, probably still scratching his head about the whole ordeal. Now, before you start picturing him in robes chanting around a campfire, let's be clear – this wasn't intentional cult shopping. According to the actor, what started as an innocent chat with some seemingly nice folks quickly took a turn for the weird. "It was just a group of nice people, and then I was like, 'Wait a minute, this is weird,'" he recalled. That's when his spider-senses started tingling, and thankfully, his common sense kicked in before things got too cultish. The whole situation began innocently enough, as these things usually do. Domingo found himself talking to a group of what he thought were "nice people" when he was in Mexico, but he ultimately realised that they were trying to convert him to their belief system. Meanwhile, Domingo admitted this was his first rodeo when it came to cult encounters – which, let's be honest, is probably the case for most of us. As he did more research about the group afterward, he realized just how close he'd come to an unplanned lifestyle change. "I'm like, 'Oh, that's a cult." The actor's quick thinking and healthy dose of skepticism saved him from what could have been a very different kind of Mexican vacation story. Instead of bringing home souvenirs, he almost brought home a whole new belief system and probably some very concerned family members. Thankfully, Domingo's natural instincts kicked in when the group's behavior shifted from friendly chitchat to something more pushy and recruitment-focused. Doing away with traditional leagues could be in MLB's not-too-distant future, Rob Manfred saysNew Foto - Doing away with traditional leagues could be in MLB's not-too-distant future, Rob Manfred says

Rob Manfred normally does what many fans consider an annoyingly effective job of keeping Major League Baseball's strategic plans out of the public square. So maybe the MLB commissioner was caught in an unguarded moment, staring down at a diamond from the ESPN"Sunday Night Baseball"booth in the cozy confines of Williamsport, Pa., and theLittle League World Series. Or maybe his comments were calculated. Either way, he spoke freely about how expanding from the current 30 teams could create an ideal chance to reset the way teams are aligned in divisions and leagues. Manfred was asked on air for a window into the future. Expansion, realignment, both? "The first two topics are related, in my mind," he replied. "I think if we expand, it provides us with an opportunity to geographically realign. I think we could save a lot of wear and tear on our players in terms of travel. And I think our postseason format would be even more appealing for entities like ESPN, because you'd be playing out of the East and out of the West." Read more:Rays stadium drama and potential relocation could upend MLB's expansion plans Taking that thinking to an extreme would put theDodgersandAngelsin a division with, say, the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Las Vegas Athletics and Seattle Mariners. Would that collection — let's call it the Pacific Division — be part of the American or National League? Maybe neither. Instead, geographic realignment could result in Eastern and Western Conferences similar to the NBA. Pushback from traditionalists might be vigorous. Call them leagues, call them conferences, geographical realignment would make for some strange bedfellows. Former MLB player and current MLB Network analyst Cameron Maybin posted on X that making sure the divisions are balanced is more important than geography. "Manfred's realignment talk isn't just about moving teams around, it tilts playoff balance," Maybin said on X. "Some divisions get watered down others overloaded and rivalries that drive October story lines we love, vanish. Baseball needs competitive integrity not manufactured shakeups." Manfreds realignment talk isnt just about moving teams around it tilts playoff balance. Some divisions get watered down others overloaded and rivalries that drive October storylines we love, vanish. Baseball needs competitive integrity not manufactured shakeups. — Cameron Maybin (@CameronMaybin)August 18, 2025 Yet Manfred makes a persuasive argument that grouping teams by geographic location would have its benefits. "That 10 o'clock time slot where we sometimes get lost in Anaheim would be two West Coast teams," he said. "Then that 10 o'clock spot that's a problem for us becomes an opportunity for our West Coast audience. I think the owners realize there is a demand for Major League Baseball in a lot of great cities, and we have an opportunity to do something good around that expansion process." Manfred said in February that he'd like expansion to be approved by 2029, his last year as commissioner. MLB hasn't expanded since the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays were added in 1998. Expansion teams "won't be playing by the time I'm done, but I would like the process along and [locations] selected," Manfred said. Several cities are courting MLB for a franchise, and the leagueis reportedto be leaning toward Nashville and Salt Lake City as favorites. Portland, Orlando, San Antonio and Charlotte are other possibilities. Read more:It's too late for buyer's remorse. Why L.A. can't back out of hosting 2028 Olympics The Times'Bill Shaikin has pointed outthat geographical realignment would be tied to schedule reform that could help kindle rivalries and encourage fans to visit opposing ballparks that are within driving distance. The future home of the Rays is in flux, and that decision likely will precede MLB choosing expansion cities, even after the recent news that Florida developerPatrick Zalupskihas agreed to pay$1.7 billion for the team. Zalupski's team of investorsreportedly prefers to keep the Rays near Tampa. If that becomes gospel, MLB can turn its attention to choosing where new teams would call home. And soon afterward, if Manfred's vision comes to fruition, geographical realignment would follow, and the Southern CaliforniaFreeway Seriescould become just another series between divisional rivals. Who is Mitchell Tinsley? Bengals WR dazzles vs. CommandersNew Foto - Who is Mitchell Tinsley? Bengals WR dazzles vs. Commanders

Remember the name –Mitchell Tinsley. The NFL preseason is all about the unknowns of the football world becoming a known, something Tinsley experienced in a big way on Monday night with theCincinnati Bengals. Battles for roster spots and playing time are entering the final stretch as the preseason winds down. For Tinsley, he picked the right time to shine. On the national stage of "Monday Night Football," Tinsley capped of the first half against theWashington Commanderswith a one-handed catch and two touchdowns in just 17 seconds of game action. BIG MITCHELL IN THE END ZONE#CINvsWASon@espnpic.twitter.com/BeEHMkguXZ — Cincinnati Bengals (@Bengals)August 19, 2025 MITCHELL TINSLEY HAVE A DAY!!!!#CINvsWASon@espnpic.twitter.com/Q7g5xFOKlf — Cincinnati Bengals (@Bengals)August 19, 2025 The stars and starters were on the sidelines, but another one might've been born on the field before halftime. Here's what to know about the little-known Bengals receiver. Tinsley is a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. The 25-year-old is competing for a roster spot on the team, but he has been around the league for a couple seasons now. After attending Hutchinson Community College for two years in Hutchinson, Kansas, Tinsley transferred to Western Kentucky and eventually Penn State before entering the NFL draft. He ended up signing with the Commanders after going undrafted and was on their practice squad in 2024 after playing 10 snaps across two games in 2023. Despite being in the NFL since 2023, Tinsley has yet to catch a pass in an NFL game. He played two games for the Commanders that season, but only 10 snaps – three on offense and seven on special teams. Tinsley's junior season, his second at Western Kentucky, was a breakout year for him. The receiver finished with 87 catches, 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns in 14 games. In 39 college games, Tinsley totaled 181 receptions, 2,356 yards and 23 touchdowns. Tinsley went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and opted to sign with the Washington Commanders. Tinsley played three seasons of college football, spending two at Western Kentucky and one at Penn State. Tinsley's time with the Commanders was relatively uneventful. He was on the roster in 2023, playing in two games, but saw just three snaps on offense and seven on special teams. After being released on Aug. 27, 2024, Tinsley signed with the Commanders' practice squad the next day. On Feb. 4, 2025, the receiver signed a futures contract with the Bengals.
