Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan will reportedly miss 8 games with 'severe neck strain'New Foto - Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan will reportedly miss 8 games with 'severe neck strain'

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without wide receiver Jalen McMillan for the first stretch of the season. McMillan sustained a "severely sprained neck" in their preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday and will land on injured reserve, according to theTampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. Though an official timeline for his return isn't clear, McMillan may miss at least eight games recovering. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] If that's the case, McMillan could be back on the field for their Week 10 matchup against the New England Patriots on Nov. 9. The Buccaneers have their bye in Week 9. McMillan went down early in the team's 17-14 win over the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday. He jumped high to haul in an 18-yard catch in the middle of the field, but was hit from behind and flipped by Steelers cornerback Daryl Porter Jr. McMillan landed awkwardly on his neck, and then remained down on the field for quite some time in significant pain. He eventually walked off the field on his own, but did not return to the game. Scary moment for Bucs WR Jalen McMillan. Makes a terrific catch but gets hit and lands right on his head.Thankfully he would jog off on his own power🙏🏽pic.twitter.com/1LhjytmHWM — Kenny Morales (@KennyMoralesTV)August 16, 2025 McMillan had 461 yards and eight touchdowns on 37 catches last season, his first in the league. The Buccaneers selected him in the third round of the 2024 draft out of Washington. While the injury could have been much worse — Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said it "shouldn't be" career threatening — McMillan will now start his second year on the injured list. The Buccaneers will also be without wide receiver Chris Godwin to start the season. He's currently recovering from a dislocated ankle, and has not yet been cleared to return. They will likely have to lean on Emeka Egbuka, Sterling Shepherd and Tez Johnson to fill the gap alongside star Mike Evans in the early stretches of the season. The Buccaneers, who went 10-7 last year and made the playoffs for a fifth straight campaign, will open the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 7.

49ers injury woes continue as key players return and others sidelinedNew Foto - 49ers injury woes continue as key players return and others sidelined

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The injury list for the San Francisco 49ers went through a bit of a shuffle with a few key players returning from injuries Tuesday while significant questions remain on several others just a week before NFL rosters will be cut to 53 players. Starting cornerback Renardo Green was at practice for the first time since injuring his hamstring late last month and running back Isaac Guerendo returned after missing about two weeks with a shoulder injury. San Francisco got a handful of other players back on Tuesday who had missed less time with defensive linemen Nick Bosa, Jordan Elliott, Sam Okuayinonu and safety Jason Pinnock back. But the news wasn't all good with backup quarterback Mac Jones sidelined this week with a knee injury that is not expected to keep him out for the season opener and backup running back and special teams stalwart Patrick Taylor going down with a season-ending shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve. With several other players still nursing injuries that are keeping them out of practice and putting their availability for Week 1 in question, planning the initial 53-man roster is a difficult proposition. "It's a really complicated thing that we really can't talk about enough because it's always changing each day," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "It will be all the way up to when we make that decision." The biggest questions appear to be at offensive line where left guard Ben Bartch (left elbow) and and right guard Dominick Puni (right guard) are out with injuries that could sideline them for Week 1 and at receiver where Jauan Jennings is still out with a calf injury. Jennings, who is also seeking a new contract, has been sidelined most of camp with a calf injury that also kept him out of the offseason program. The Niners need to get him back on the field soon if he is going to be ready for the opener on Sept. 7 in Seattle. "Any player, not just Jauan or anyone, but people need to practice," Shanahan said. "They need to get ready to play an NFL season or you end up getting hurt. So, hopefully he can get his health back so he can get that out there and start practicing. Just running routes, doing things like that." First-round rookie defensive end Mykel Williams was expected back this week but is still having issues with his knee so will be out at least another week. Rookie defensive tackle C.J. West is also out at least this week with a knee injury. Rookie nickelback Upton Stout didn't practice Tuesday because of a calf injury but could return soon. Several other players were also out Tuesday, including receiver Jordan Watkins; defensive backs Tre Brown, Richie Grant and Fabian Moreau; and running back Jordan James as injuries have once again been a major issue for San Francisco this summer. "Obviously we have too many guys down," Shanahan said. "So we've got to look into all that stuff and figure out whatever we can do better." With Jones unavailable for the preseason finale, the Niners brought back Nate Sudfeld on a one-year deal to take Taylor's place on the roster. Sudfeld spend the 2022 season in camp with San Francisco before getting beat out by Brock Purdy. With Purdy expected to sit out or play only a series or two on Saturday night, Shanahan needed another quarterback along with Carter Bradley to play against the Chargers. The 49ers will likely have several players on injured lists after cut-down day with receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and safety Malik Mustapha (knee) expected to miss at least the first four games on the physically unable to perform list, and rookie quarterback Kurtis Rourke (knee) slated to start the season on the non-football injury list. Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) still has been unable to practice all of camp and could open the season on the physically unable to perform list. Promising undrafted rookie running back Corey Kiner went down with a "serious" high ankle sprain last week and is a candidate to start the season on short-term injured reserve along with defensive tackle Kevin Givens (pectoral). The Niners can put two players on IR next week who don't count on the 53-man roster and will be eligible to return after missing at least four weeks. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

Aubrey Plaza explains why grieving her husband Jeff Baena's death is like the movie 'The Gorge'New Foto - Aubrey Plaza explains why grieving her husband Jeff Baena's death is like the movie 'The Gorge'

For Aubrey Plaza, grief is like a gorge. On Tuesday's episode of Amy Poehler'sGood Hangpodcast, the actress opened up about how she's been coping with the grief of the death of her husband, Jeff Baena, earlier this year. Baena died by suicide on Jan. 3. He was 47 years old. To help contextualize her grief, Plaza referenced the 2025 sci-fi romance filmThe Gorge, which stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as two elite operatives who are tasked with protecting the world from a mysterious evil that lies within a deep gorge. "In the movie, there's like a cliff on one side, and there's a cliff on the other side, and then this gorge in between, and it's filled with all these monster people that are trying to get them. I swear, when I watched it, I was like, 'That feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like,'" she said. TheHoney, Don't!actress continued: "At all times, there's like a giant ocean of just awfulness that's right there, and I can see it. And sometimes, I just want to just dive into it, and just ... be in it. And then sometimes, I just look at it. And then sometimes, I try to get away from it. But it's always there." Poehler initially broached the subject of Baena's death by asking Plaza how she's been dealing with the tragedy. "You had this terrible, terrible, tragic year," Poehler, who starred alongside Plaza onParks and Recreationfrom 2009 to 2015, said. "You lost your husband. You've been dealing with that, and you've been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support. I think, on behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?" Plaza said that "in this present moment," she feels happy to be with Poehler and that she's functioning overall. "I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm OK, but you know, it's like a daily struggle, obviously," she said. Plaza's candor has resonated with fans who've experienced their own losses. Many have taken to social media platforms like TikTok and X, or commented on the YouTube video of the interview itself to thank Plaza for her honesty. "The beautiful vulnerability that Aubrey shows at the beginning of this podcast is incredible. At a time when everyone posts only the highlights of their life, it's so vulnerable to even just show up," one fan commented on the YouTube video. Another fan added: "This was a beautiful, kind and loving interview. Discussions of grief honestly help me in mine; I'm sending so much love and healing to Aubrey and anyone else facing the Grief Gorge." Plaza began dating Baena, a writer and director with whom she had often collaborated, in 2011. Fans learned that the pair had secretly married when the actress referred to him as her "darling husband" in an Instagram post in May 2021. TheIngrid Goes Weststar previously spoke about the ups and downs of working with your partner. "My partner's a filmmaker, and we've made movies together," Plaza said during a 2020 episode ofHFPA In Conversation. "We've had really good experiences and really bad experiences, and I think I learned going through those things that ultimately, you know, movies come and go. Movies — it's what our lives are built off of. But when you're about to die, you don't think about the movies. You think about the people in your life and your relationships. I think that's what most people think about before they die."

Tory Lanez's lawyers push to overturn conviction in Megan Thee Stallion shooting caseNew Foto - Tory Lanez's lawyers push to overturn conviction in Megan Thee Stallion shooting case

AsTory Lanezserves a10-year prison sentencefor theshootingthat injuredMegan Thee Stallion, the rapper's lawyers are working to appealhis 2022 conviction. Speaking to a panel of judges in California's Second District Court of Appeal on Aug. 18, Lanez's attorney, Crystal Morgan, argued that the DNA evidence the prosecution presented during his trial was misleading, according toBillboardandXXL Magazine. "It is actually marginally more likely that another member of the African American population touched this gun over Mr. Peterson," she said, according to the outlets. "If our jury had heard that Mr. Peterson maybe one in a million touched the gun, I believe that would have been enough to tip that scale and show reasonable doubt." Another attorney on Lanez's defense team, Jose A. Baez, told USA TODAY in a statement, "I would say it is a statistical fact that any random African American male was more likely a contributor to the DNA on the gun than Daystar Peterson. "In fact, the DNA community has a random profile that is used as a control sample, and that profile was determined to match the mixture found on the gun rather than Daystar Peterson," he continued. "To be clear, it would be reckless and a complete fabrication to say that Tory's DNA was on that gun and to not exclude him as a contributor." 'Recovering remarkably':Tory Lanez's father gives health update after prison stabbing During arguments on behalf of the prosecution, according to courtroom footage shared byXXL Magazineandjournalist Meghann Cuniff, California Deputy Attorney General Michael C. Keller said, "There's three times in which (Lanez) tacitly admitted to being the shooter." Among the evidence, Keller said, was a text to Megan in which he apologized to her for something that "never should have happened," blamed alcohol for the unspecified action and said she "probably" would never talk to him again. During the trial, Lanez denied that the messages were related to the shooting. "He was clearly accepting responsibility for something very big," Keller told the judges, per the videos. USA TODAY has reached out to the California Attorney General's office for comment. During Lanez's closely watched trial, it was determined thatthe DNA found on the handgunthat discharged the bullet wasinconclusive. The oral arguments took place in Los Angeles nearly a week after appeals court judges largely denied two of his petitions related to the case, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. In the filings, known as habeas corpus petitions, Lanez's legal team reportedly challenged his conviction by alleging they have obtained new testimony, according toRolling StoneandBillboard. They also once again cast doubt on some of the evidence presented during his 2022 trial, the outlets reported. The appeals court rulings were filed Aug. 12. Previously, ina May 19 TikTok post, Megan hit back after Lanez's team indicated they had new information that corroborated his claim that he did not fire the weapon. "At what point are y'all gonna stop making me have to re-live being shot BY TORY !?" she wrote. "At what point are Tory and y'all FANS gonna stop lying? ... FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT." In May, Lanez was hospitalized after he wasstabbed multiple timesby a fellow inmate. Afterward, his father announced thathe was "recovering remarkably." Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convictedin 2022 of shooting Megan in the ankle after an alleged argument in the Los Angeles area. The Canadian singer-songwriter, who pleaded not guilty on all counts ahead of his trial, was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Report: Iowa to start QB Mark Gronowski in openerNew Foto - Report: Iowa to start QB Mark Gronowski in opener

Iowa will start graduate transfer quarterback Mark Gronowski in the season opener on Aug. 30 against Albany, On3.com reported on Tuesday afternoon. Gronowski, who had offseason shoulder surgery that caused him to miss spring practice with his new team, was a highly decorated player on the FCS level at South Dakota State. The FCS Player of the Year in 2023, Gronowski won two national titles with the Jackrabbits (2022, 2023). He had a 49-6 record as a starter and passed for 10,330 yards, 93 touchdowns and 20 interceptions and rushed for 1,767 yards and 37 scores. Last season, Gronowski threw for 2,721 yards and 23 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He considered putting his name in for the NFL draft after entering the transfer portal. The Hawkeyes are seeking stability at quarterback after inconsistency from former starters Cade McNamara, now a graduate transfer at East Tennessee State, and Brendan Sullivan, who transferred to Tulane. Iowa went 8-5, 6-3 in the Big Ten and lost to Missouri in the Music City Bowl. Also in the mix this season at quarterback for the Hawkeyes are Hank Brown, a sophomore transfer who made two starts in 2024 for Auburn, and redshirt freshman Jeremy Hecklinski, who took a total of three snaps for Wake Forest last season. --Field Level Media

CHICAGO (AP) — Owen Caissie homered and drove in three runs, and the Chicago Cubs held off the Milwaukee Brewers for a 6-4 win in the opener of a split doubleheader on Tuesday. Willi Castro also went deep as Chicago won for the third time in four games. Four Cubs relievers combined for 3 2/3 innings of two-hit ball after Matthew Boyd (12-6) departed in the sixth. Chicago (71-54) pulled within eight games of NL Central-leading Milwaukee (79-46). The teams were originally scheduled for a doubleheader on Monday, but the second gamewas postponed by rain. Chicago built a 5-0 lead on Caissie's two-run single in the first and Castro's three-run shot off Chad Patrick (3-8) in the third. Yelich opened the fourth with his 26th homer, and Frelick singled home Brandon Lockridge in the fifth. Frelick added another RBI single in a two-run sixth. Caissie then gave the Cubs a boost with his first major league homer, a 381-foot drive to left-center off Shelby Miller that made it 6-4 in the bottom half of the sixth. The 23-year-old Caissie singled in the seventh inning ofMonday's 7-0 lossin the series opener for his first big league hit. Caleb Thielbar and Drew Pomeranz each pitched an inning for Chicago before Daniel Palencia handled the ninth for his 17th save in 19 chances. Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. arrested and jailed after being deported to MexicoNew Foto - Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. arrested and jailed after being deported to Mexico

Boxer Julio CĂ©sar Chávez Jr. was deported from the United States and entered a prison in the northern Mexico state of Sonora, according to the country's national arrest registry. Chávez had been arrested in the U.S. in July and Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday, Aug. 19 that the 39-year-old had been deported to Mexico. A former middleweight world champion, Chávezwas arrested July 2in Southern California and then detained by ICE, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Mexican prosecutors allege he acted as a henchman for the Sinaloa Cartel, which Washington designated a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year. Chavez Jr's lawyer and family have rejected the accusations. Mexico's national arrest registry showed that he was arrested at a checkpoint in the border city of Nogales and transferred to a federal institution in Sonora's capital of Hermosillo. Chávez is a Mexican citizen and was being processed for expedited removal from the United States after his arrest, according to DHS, which said Chávez has an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives. His arrest came four days afterlosing a high-profile boxing match to celebrity boxer Jake Paul. Chávez, the son of legendary Mexican fighter Julio CĂ©sar Chávez Sr., held the WBC middleweight title in 2011 and 2012. He was critical of immigration raids in Los Angeles. In August 2023, Chávez entered the country legally with a B2 tourist visa that was valid until February 2024. Chávez was on a scooter by his home in Studio City, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, when he was detained by ICE agents, according to the Associated Press, which also reported ChĂ vez would appear in court Monday. In January 2024, Chávez was arrested in Los Angeles on charges of felony gun possession charges after police said they found him in possession of two AR-style ghost rifles, according to ESPN and the Los Angeles Times. He pleaded not guilty to the gun possession charges and agreed to enter a residential treatment program, according to those reports. Court records indicate Chávez was granted pretrial diversion. As of the last progress report on June 18, he was still in the program, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's June 25. In its press release, DHS stated former PresidentJoe Biden's administration allowed Chávez to reenter the country in January and paroled him into the country at the San Ysidro port of entry in California. Chávez trained in Los Angeles before the fight against Paul and addressed the immigration raids that triggered protests in the city's downtown. "It even scared me, to tell you the truth, it is very ugly," he told the Los Angeles Times fora story published June 23. "I don't understand the situation, why so much violence. There are many good people and you are setting an example of violence to the community." He also addressed federal agents wearing masks and not identifying themselves while targeting workers who appeared to be immigrants, according to the Los Angeles Times. "Seeing children left alone because their parents are grabbed,'' Chávez said. "... That is common sense, we are people and we are going to feel bad when we see that situation.'' FedExCup Playoffs: Scottie Scheffler's caddie returns for Tour Championship after absenceNew Foto - FedExCup Playoffs: Scottie Scheffler's caddie returns for Tour Championship after absence

Ted Scott has made it to Atlanta this week to rejoin Scottie Scheffler in his quest for a second straight FedExCup. The top-ranked golfer in the world will have his usual caddie on the bag with him at the Tour Championship this week. Scott left Scheffler ahead of the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago and was not with him when hewon the BMW Championship last weekwhile tending to a family emergency at home in Louisiana. Michael Cromie, Chris Kirk's usual caddie, stepped in to replace Scott last week in Maryland. Theduo then rolled to the win at Caves Valley Golf Club, which gave Scheffler his fifth win of the PGA Tour season. That win earned Cromie a $360,000 paycheck, too. Scheffler has not gotten into specifics about Scott's absence, and he likely won't when he speaks to reporters on Wednesday. "I think Ted's where he needs to be right now, and I think caddying is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be," Schefflersaid before the BMW Championship. "I've been able to talk to him a few times. The family is in good spirits. Everybody seems to be doing well." Scheffler has now won 12 times over the past two seasons on Tour, three of which were major championships. He's now just a U.S. Open win away from becoming the seventh golfer in history to complete the career grand slam. He's finished inside the top 10 in every start dating back to the Texas Children's Houston Open in March, too. While Scheffler won't have a starting strokes advantage this week at East Lake — the Tour did away with its old format this season and will have every golfer in the 30-man field start at even par — he's easily the favorite to repeat as the FedExCup champion. That's something that's never been done in back-to-back years since the format was introduced in 2007. Now with Scott back by his side, it seems only more likely that Scheffler will be in position to pull that feat off come Sunday afternoon.
