The Oscar-winning actor revealed he snuck Levi into the audition by hiding his famous last name. He said director Paul Greengrass cast Levi without knowing he was the actor's son. Having a famous parent can get you places in Hollywood — but so can pure talent, asMatthew McConaugheyrevealed that he snuck his son, Levi Alves McConaughey, into an audition to play his on-screen kid by hiding his famous last name. After Friday night's world-premiere screening of their new movie,The Lost Bus,at the 2025Toronto International Film Festival, McConaughey spoke to the audience about how his 17-year-old son came to star with him in the film. "Levi, come on out here, bud," he said, embracing his son, who walked onstage to uproarious applause from the audience at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Eric Charbonneau/Apple TV+ via Getty McConaughey also spoke about Greengrass casting his real mother, Kay McConaughey, for a role in the film before recounting how Levi became involved. "She's always been performing, but I had no idea this young man was interested. As I pitched the script to the family, as I always do before work, there was a part about Kevin having a son. [Levi] asked me, 'How old is he?' I said, 'He's about your age.' He goes, 'Think I could read for it?'" the 55-year-old recalled. "And I didn't say anything. It wasn't enough for me to say maybe. He came back four more times. I said,Okay, now he's working for it. I said yeah. I pulled out the camera, worked with him on a scene, and sent that to [casting director] Francine Maisler." TheDallas Buyers Clubactor indicated that Maisler told him, "I think it might be good enough for a callback," and, later, that it "might be good enough to show to Paul." McConaughey said he asked Maisler to do him one favor during the process. "Will you pull the last name off so there's no McConaughey at the end of that?" he asked her. "Next call I got, [Paul] goes, 'That's the guy, that's the son!' [Francine] goes, 'That happens to be Matthew's son! And Paul goes, 'Even better!'" McConaughey and his son, whom he shares with wife Camila Alves, were joined on stage at theLost Buspremiere by many involved in the film's production, including supporting actressAmerica Ferreraand producersJason BlumandJamie Lee Curtis. Curtis told the audience that she first heard of the story in a newspaper article, and later went to Blum to secure the rights to a book based on the tragedy, written by Lizzie Johnson. The film follows the real-life story of a bus driver, Kevin McKay, and teacher Mary Ludwig, who helped drive to safety a bus full of kids amid California's 2018 Camp Fire. Apple TV/Youtube Theactress said that, in meeting the real-life Kevin and Mary for the first time, she discovered that the latter had a shocking connection to her mother, Hollywood iconJanet Leigh, who died in 2004. "She said, 'My father dated your mother.' [I asked], 'For real?' I said, 'Where?' She said, 'Merced, Calif.," Curtis told the crowd. "Now, you guys know my mother as Janet Leigh, but before she was Janet Leigh, she was Jeanette Helen Morrison from Merced, Calif., and Mary Ludwig's father dated Jeanette." After the audience gasped at the reveal, Curtis stressed that she felt the connection was destiny. Want more movie news? Reneé Rapp has words for people who speculate about her sexualityNew Foto - Reneé Rapp has words for people who speculate about her sexuality

Reneé Rapphas responded after Australian singer Betty Who speculated about Rapp's sexuality. In an interview withCosmopolitanpublished Sept. 5, Rapp said she is publicly in a "very loving relationship with a woman" and isn't surprised by comments questioning her identity as a lesbian. The comments come after Who, whose real name is Jessica Newham, said in a podcast that Rapp may one day meet a man who changes her mind and becomes the love of her life. Rappsaid she has come to expect similar comments. "No, I'm never surprised. People are always going for lesbians! Somebody's gonna bring my name into the conversation if they want to be in the conversation. So no, it doesn't surprise me at all," Rapp said without directly mentioning Who's name. The 25-year-old actor and musician said people are consistently dismissing her lesbian identity by suggesting she simply "hasn't found the right man." Who apologized on her Instagram Story on Aug. 28, writing that she recognized the language she used unintentionally "reinforced ideas that were harmful or dismissive, particularly toward the lesbian community." "That was never my intention, and I'm truly sorry. Everyone's journey is deeply personal, and I shouldn't have spoken in ways that generalized or spoke for others," she wrote. "I understand there is so much nuance in this conversation, and in other people's lived experiences, that my comments did not reflect. I also recognize that I'm coming from a place of privilege, and I never meant to contribute to prejudice against the community." Rappdidn't reference the apology in her comments. "What makes you think I'm gonna end up with a man? Also, how about don't talk about me when it comes to a man?" she said. "I'm not really sure what about that is so blurry. I mean, I completely understand that identifying yourself can be really difficult. There is so much pressure when it comes to labelling yourself, but I think that pressure often comes from you." She added many people pressure others to label themselves immediately and urged these people to "just literally focus on yourself." September marks the end of summer and the start of fall, and Hollywood A-listers are gearing up for spooky season. But before they get in the Halloween spirit, they'll have to get red carpet ready for the MTV VMAs, the 2025 Emmy Awards and dust off their favorite fits forNew York Fashion Week. Here's what celebs are up to this month, starting with Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac at the Cartier Glory To The Filmmaker Award 2025 red carpet during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 3, 2025, in Venice, Italy. Scroll through for more. In an Aug. 19 episode of the"Made It Out" podcast, Who mentioned Rapp when making a point about how sexual orientation and romance aren't always clear cut. Who and podcast host Mal Glowenke were discussing how biphobia has prompted scrutiny toward queer celebrities like 22-year-oldJoJo Siwa, who came under fire amid her romantic relationship with "Love Island" alumChris Hughesafter previously publicly identifying as a lesbian. The singer defended Siwa and recounted her own experiences as a bisexual woman falling in love with a man after previously dismissing the idea. She then proceeded to mention Rapp, who has publicly denied being bisexual herself. "It's funny that Reneé Rapp is like 'you'll never catch me dating a man.' Like go off queen I love that for you but I also hold space for her in 10 years if she goes 'oops I met the love of my life and it's this man I didn't mean to,'" Newham said. "That's okay. It shouldn't be illegal for you to fall in love." (This story has been updated to correct a misspelling/typo.) "We take full responsibility for this reporting error," Deloitte said in a statement. "We have taken additional measures to avoid any future recurrence and are fully confident in the NIL Go platform." Young Phillies fan rewarded with gift bag from Marlins, signed Harrison Bader bat after viral confrontationNew Foto - Young Phillies fan rewarded with gift bag from Marlins, signed Harrison Bader bat after viral confrontation

All's well that ends well for a young fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. While attending the Phillies game at the Miami Marlins, the fan had to give up a home run ball after a viral confrontation, but was later rewarded by both teams. In the top of the fourth inning, outfielder Harrison Bader hit a solo homer to increase Philadelphia's lead to 5-1. As the homer went into the stands, the boy's father scrambled to grab the ball, giving it to his son. But a woman, who is also a Phillies fan, ran over to express her anger in a video clip that went viral online. Fan footagefrom the standsshows the woman saying, "You took it from me," accusing the father of stealing the ball from her part of the section. The father eventually gave in and gave the woman the ball in order to end the confrontation, plucking it from his son's glove. It didn't take long for the Marlins organization to approach the fan, who was there celebrating his birthday, and give him a gift bag as an apology for the incident. Kristin Davis recalls meeting with Cher to get permission to use a song on "Sex and the City": 'Incredible'

You may recall that in that episode Davis' Charlotte hooks up with Stephan, the "straight gay man" pastry chef played by future two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriterDan Futterman. A memorable moment for them is set to the tune ofCher's "Believe," which at the time was a new, groundbreaking hit. Now, you would think that securing rights to a song for use on a television show is something done by people at desks with legal contracts. There is, after all, a specific title for such a position — "Music Supervisor" — in the entertainment industry. ButSex and the Citybends to no rules! And neither, for that matter, does Cher. Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Davis and Chupack were eager to reminisce about a great night they had out on the town in service of HBO's lawyers. "Do you remember that we had to go to a Cher concert to get permission?" Davis asked her guest. Chupack replied, "Yes, we all went. And she came and, like, talked to us before the show." That's when Davis confessed, "I touched her, she was so fragile." Chupack said that the Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy-winning performer with over 100 million records sold worldwide (plus another 40 million withSonny Bono) "had like a viking thing going on," referring to a headpiece she was wearing. (Onstage, it seemed to fit, but in person "it was wow!") CBS Photo Archive/Getty Chupack also remembered thatCyndi Lauperwas the opener, and theSex and the Citycommittee got to have dinner with Cher as Lauper was performing at Madison Square Garden. (Whether they were out at some special restaurant or just having $11 pretzels with packets of yellow mustard like the rest of us wasn't mentioned — but we think we know the answer there.) "We had to get her seal of approval, which is totally fine because we got to meet Cher, which is incredible," Davis explained, with Chupack replying, "One of those experiences where you're like, 'Okay, I can't believe this is my life." Davis added that whenever she hears "Believe" she "get[s] so happy and it reminds me of [Dan] Futterman and Cher. It's a great thing." "Believe," which won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording, sold more than 11 million copies worldwide, went to No. 1 in the U.S. (Cher's fifth time reaching that height), and remains the top-selling single by a solo female vocalist in the U.K. It also pioneered the use of autotune. How the 'Wednesday' Effects Team Brought Christopher Lloyd's Severed Head to LifeNew Foto - How the 'Wednesday' Effects Team Brought Christopher Lloyd's Severed Head to Life

SPOILER ALERT:This story contains spoilers for Season 2, Part 2 of "Wednesday,"now streaming on Netflix. Christopher Lloyd is no stranger to the world of the kooky Addams Family. The actor played Uncle Fester in both the 1991 film "The Addams Family" and its sequel "Addams Family Values." He's back on Netflix's "Wednesday" as Professor Orloff, one of Nevermore Academy's longest-serving teachers. More from Variety 'Wednesday' Creators Unpack the Season 2 Finale: Gomez's Tragic Backstory, Thing's Origins and What Wednesday Thinks of Tyler Now Gwendoline Christie on Her Spectral Return in 'Wednesday' Season 2: 'God, I Always Wanted to Play a Ghost' 'Wednesday' Season 2 Finale Creates Six Burning Question for Season 3: What Happens With Enid, Tyler and Hester? However, he's no ordinary teacher. Professor Orloff is a severed head that floats in a jar. The effect was achieved through volume capture technology. Visual effects supervisor Tom Turnbull explains, "We used volume capture where we literally capture every frame of his performance to an incredibly high resolution, and we use that data to recreate him as a CG version." That replica was a perfect image of the actor. Turnbull says, "He is technically CG in the jar, but it is very much Christopher Lloyd driving it." Typically, effects like this are a combination of practical and computer-generated, but as Turnbull explains, "The practical is not prosthetic; the practical is the actual actor." Striking the right balance was key to making Lloyd look as realistic as possible, but when they saw the first effects, it looked too real, and "you don't believe he's in water." Turnbull navigated that challenge by "embracing the distortions of the glass and the refraction of the water." He continues, "We added bubbles, bits of grime and stuff floating in there so it goes from pristine to looking what we ended up with, which felt more believable." Elsewhere in the series, Turnbull worked closely with prosthetics head Tristan Versluis, particularly for the Willow Hill patients. Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) discovers a sinister secret operation happening in the basement. As it turns out, Judi Spannegel (Heather Matarazzo) has been keeping outcasts as prisoners and conducting tests on them. As Wednesday and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) attempt to liberate them, they stumble across a range of characters, including a zombie and a half-human/half-feline character. Even though some of them appear for mere seconds, Versluis spent hours on the details. For those characters, Tim Burton provided the team with very good references. "There were some images of monsters and makeups from his childhood. But they were our springboard to make designs." One character that Versluis was particularly proud of was a young Frankenstein-inspired creation that was prosthetics-driven. He says, "The makeup itself was a three-hour process with multiple pieces on the neck, top of the head and chin. Each piece was glued on, and the edges blended." Versluis used scars, staples and twisted skin with hair coming out of it. He added teeth and contact lenses to bring it all to life. For a Burton production, no small detail was spared. Versluis says, "It was weeks of prep, sculpting it, casting, and pre-painting." Fastest lap in F1 history sees Verstappen take pole for Italian GP ahead of Norris and PiastriNew Foto - Fastest lap in F1 history sees Verstappen take pole for Italian GP ahead of Norris and Piastri

MONZA, Italy (AP) — It takes something special to beat McLaren this year. And that's what Max Verstappen produced on Saturday as he stunned title contenders Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri by snatching pole position forthe Italian Grand Prixwith the fastest lap ever at Monza. Verstappen set a new lap record in the final part of qualifying for Sunday's race and Norris couldn't quite match it, ending up .077 of a second behind the Red Bull driver, with Piastri 0.190 off the pace. "Yes guys, yes. That is unbelievable," Verstappen yelled over the team radio. "Relax here, it is all good." Four-time world champion Verstappen raced around the 3.54 miles (5.79 kilometers) of asphalt at the so-called Temple of Speed in a time of 1 minute, 18.792 seconds, for an average speed of 164.466 mph (264.682 kph). That was almost a tenth of a second quicker thanthe one-lap record set by Lewis Hamiltonon his way to pole at Monza in 2020. And Formula 1 touted it as the fastest lap in F1 history by average speed. Charles Leclerc — who won at Monza last year and in 2019 — qualified in fourth for Ferrari at the Italian Scuderia's home race, just ahead of teammate Hamilton, who will start Sunday's race in 10th as he serves a five-place grid penalty. Leclerc had briefly topped the standings early in Q3 to loud cheers from the Ferrari fans — matched by groans from the passionate red-clad tifosi when Verstappen went faster, moments later. Verstappen has been on pole position 44 times but just once at the Italian Grand Prix, where he has triumphed twice. "It was tight, we were still lacking a tiny amount and we made some final changes which I think allowed me to push a bit more and that's exactly what you need in qualifying," Verstappen said. "For us, it's a great moment. "Historically this season the race has always been a little bit more complicated for us, but we are going to give it everything we have. That's the only thing we can do and then we will see what happens tomorrow." It is a 45th pole position for Verstappen and a fifth this season, although only one of his two wins this year has come from the front of the grid. He will be joined on the front row on Sunday by Norris, who trails Piastri by 34 points in the championship with nine races left of the season. "Max has been quick all weekend and it's never a surprise with Max," Norris said. "It was quite a session from me, up and down and too many mistakes here and there. But to put it together on the last lap, I was pretty happy with P2." Norris almost didn't make it out of Q2 as an early mistake meant he had to change tires and he needed a tow from Piastri to get out of danger and go through in fifth place. Teenager Antonelli impresses Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli was seventh-fastest, just behind Mercedes teammate George Russell as he bounced back in front of his home crowd. The only Italian on the grid, Antonelli had a tough introduction last year as hecrashedat Monza 10 minutes into his first F1 practice session. The 19-year-old alsoended Leclerc's raceat last weekend'sDutch Grand Prix. Russell and Antonelli will move up a place on the grid because of Hamilton's penalty, as will Gabriel Bortoleto, Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda, who round out the top 10. "Obviously with the penalty and everyone being so close, it's going to be tough to overtake them," said Hamilton when asked about his chances at his first Italian Grand Prix in Ferrari red. "But we've got good topline speed, so I'm going to open it up and try to make up some ground. "I need to do that, a good start, a good first lap, a good strategy. We'll go away now and try and figure out what we can do to try to leapfrog the guys ahead of me if possible." Hadjar's disappointment French rookie Isack Hadjar was"over the moon" at a first F1 podiumlast week. It was back to earth with a thud as the 20-year-old driver was eliminated in Q1 on Saturday. Hadjar would have started Sunday's race from the pit lane in any case, due to an engine change. "I made a mistake on my lap and that's it. It's my first mistake in qualifying in a while so it happens," the young Racing Bulls driver said. "I'm starting last tomorrow so even if I put it on pole I wouldn't care because I'm starting from the back." ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS Drew Barrymoredoesn't just travel through states while on her beloved road trips — she also travels throughstates of mind. The 50-year-oldCharlie's Angelsactress discussed her love for hitting the open road while visitingThe Late Show With Stephen Colberton Thursday. And, as it turns out, her tires aren't the only thing that's rolling on her expeditions. "We stayed in RV parks, we stayed in hotels, kind of a little bit of [everything], you know," Barrymore explained of her adventures, before suddenly bursting into laughter. She then confessed, "One time, I left a bag of weed in a Motel 6 and I was so mad!" Taylor Hill/FilmMagic Her unexpected admission seemed to shock hostStephen Colbert, who shot her an alarmed look before covering the lower half of his face with his hand. That didn't stop Barrymore, though. "I would hide my weed under the mattress," she continued as the audience groaned. "And I was in the next state and I was like, 'Alright, time to roll a —oh no!'" Sadly, that appears to be the last we'll get to hear about the actress' wondrous, weed-less adventure. The footage then cut abruptly to a new clip that featured Barrymore and Colbert holding their respective mugs and talking abouther recent 50th birthday. Earlier in the segment, Barrymore noted that she has an affinity for road trips because "you are beholden to no one" and can travel as you please without an itinerary. "Here's how I start. I rent a Tioga, which is a type of RV," she said, adding that she chose that specific vehicle because you can operate it with "a regular driver's license." When asked if the motorhome had a bathroom on board, Barrymore — in a tone that conveys there'sabsolutelya story there — bluntly replied, "Yeah, but you cannot poo in there. "And then you go and you clean it out." Barrymore has spoken often about her love for road trips on her daytime talk showThe Drew Barrymore Showover the years. In 2022, sheshared snapshots taken on one of the very first road tripsthat she went on with longtime pal and Flower Films co-founder Nancy Juvonen (and wife ofJimmy Fallon) at age 19. "Anyone who can do RVing, I highly suggest like a Tioga style," she said at the time. "There's two beds, a little table. You don't have to have a special driver's license for it. And you just take a map and flip coins at intersections. Should we go right or left? I don't know, flip the coin." She continued, "It's the greatest thing on Earth to do and I couldn't recommend it more." Read the original article onEntertainment Weekly
