CAMERON BURGESS scored a scruffy winner to take Ipswich within just one point of the Premier League.

The Scottish-born Australian international scrambled home with 21 minutes left at the Tractor Boys once again found a way to win.

Kieran McKenna has guided Ipswich to the brink of the Premier League[/caption]

Anyone who thought Coventry were going to be laying on their sun loungers last night were mistaken.

Mark Robins' side had a real go – and Ipswich had to find their A game when it really mattered to get across the line.

Kieffer Moore slammed home an eighth-minute opener but Haji Wright levelled in the 64th.

Yet any signs of a wobble or nerves were nipped in the bud within five minutes when Burgess netted.

Ipswich now only need a draw at home to already-relegated Huddersfield on Saturday to seal their place in the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

Ipswich were boosted by Leif Davis being able to start after rolling his ankle during Friday night's 3-3 draw.

Omari Hutchinson, who scored two stunners at Hull, attempted another long-range effort but this time was denied by Brad Collins.

But the Tractor Boys moved in front.

Wes Burns raced past Jay Dasilva and kept calm and composed as he waited for support.

And then he coolly laid the ball on to the penalty spot for Moore to slam home.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

It sparked wild scenes among the Ipswich fans who could almost smell Premier League football.

But the Sky Blues were not going through the motions and gave their opponents a few warnings.

First Massimo Luongo threw his body in the way of a stinging Kasey Palmer 25-yarder.

And then Coventry launched a rapid counter attack which saw Sheaf play a pass for Haji Wright to chase but George Edmundson managed to intervene.

Then Ben Sheaf had a dig from 25 yards. He could not have hit the ball any sweeter and the ball just bent over.

Hladky made a stunning reflex save to deny what should have been a dead-cert leveller.

Simms made it so Ipswich had to fight hard to reach the brink of the Prem[/caption]

During some ping-pong in the Ipswich boss, the ball fell to Wright. He fired a shot that had goal written all over it but somehow the Czech keeper somehow managed to push the ball over the bar.

Ellis Simms missed a great chance when Josh Eccles teed him up by lazily firing over.

However, Burns brilliantly charged down the right and his cross was met by a thumping Nathan Broadhead header and this time Brad Collins brilliantly kept it out.

Coventry were dominating possession and Eccles fired another effort into the side-netting shortly after the break.

Then there was a lengthy delay as referee James Bell picked up a claf injury and the fourth official Dean Whitestone took over.

And almost immediately after that officiating switch, Collins miscued his clearance and the ball fell to Broadhead on the edge of the box.

His crashing curling effort cannoned back off the crossbar.

And they were left cursing that when Wright picked up the ball from 12 yards and

McKenna did not mess about as he made an immediate double swap bringing on Jeremy Sarmiento and George Hirst for Broadhead and Moore.

Sarmiento immediately had a huge chance but saw his effort kept out by Collins and then he played in Hirst but the keeper came to Coventry's rescue.

But Ipswich moved back in front.

A Davis free-kick was met by a Burgess header which was blocked and he slammed in the rebound.

BARSTOOL boss Dave Portnoy has been spotted with a new woman at an NBA playoff game.

Portnoy was seen courtside at the Celtics-Heat game with 24-year-old Camryn D'Aloia.

D'Aloia is 24 years old and almost half of Portnoy's age[/caption]

Portnoy was spotted chatting with D'Aloia in the background of the TNT broadcast while announcers Brian Anderson and Stan Van Gundy chatted about the matchup.

The Barstool founder was seen saying something to his new date with a smile before she reacted to the remark with a playful look.

Internet detectives uncovered D'Aloia's LinkedIn, which says she works as a community management associate for Nutrafol.

The 24-year-old is nearly half Portnoy's age.

She is also a graduate of Framingham State University in 2021 and is a native of Massachusetts, like Portnoy.

Portnoy's public appearance with D'Aloia is the first time he's spent time in public with a woman since his split from Silvana Mojica in November of 2023.

He was with Mojica for three years before Portnoy initiated the split.

Portnoy said their visions of the future weren't aligned, causing him to instigate the breakup.

"I guess you get to a point where you think maybe there's a difference in what somebody wants and what the other person wants and without going into too much detail," Portnoy said on the BFFs podcast.

"I just didn't think I could give Silvana kind of what she deserves."

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Portnoy hasn't yet addressed his potential new relationship but spent plenty of time on social media during the game the duo was at.

The Barstool boss took in the Celtics' 102-88 win over the Heat and gave his reactions to many of the moments.

First, he shared his thoughts on an injury to one of the Celtics' key players during the game.

"I'm not a doctor but Porzingis is done for playoffs based on his reaction. He acted like he knew he was hurt bad instantly," Portnoy wrote on X.

He also gave flowers to Derrick White who put up a spectacular 38-point performance.

"I think it's time to officially make Derrick White the guy who has the ball at end of quarter/game/whenever we need to score," Portnoy said.

Portnoy also claimed the Heat are a "dirty" team.

"The Heat are so f***king dirty it's gross," Portnoy wrote.

"Nicky Smokes job is still on line if they injure Tatum on a dirty play."

DAVID MOYES has been the subject of a sensational approach from Spartak Moscow, it's been claimed.

The Scot's future at West Ham has been up in the air for several months.

Spartak Moscow have made a shock approach for the Scot, according to reports[/caption]

There are strong suggestions that the veteran gaffer will leave the London Stadium at the end of the season.

And according to reports, he could find himself in the dugout at the Otkritie Arena next season.

That's according to The Daily Mail, who claim Spartak have inquired about his "availability" in recent weeks.

The Russian outfit are on the hunt for a new manager following their decision to relieve Guille Abascal of his duties earlier this month.

And it's claimed they have identified Moyes as a potential successor to the Spaniard.

Moyes, however, is said to be "reluctant to commit" to the Moscow club at this moment in time.

Moyes' contract with the Hammers is set to expire at the end of the season.

The former Manchester United manager is set to hold talks with club owners after the campaign draws to a close.

David Moyes refused to be drawn on his future at the London Stadium[/caption]

A decision over his future is expected to be made during the post-season chat.

Moyes has refused to be drawn on his future, saying after his troops' 2-2 draw with Liverpool last weekend: "I've always said we'll make a decision at the end of the season.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

"I want things to be right on both sides and I'm quite cool about the whole thing at the moment.

"The team are showing up and doing the job."

Moyes' sole focus at this moment in time is trying to pull off the Hammers' Mission Impossible to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

He said: "Our points total is a good total for West Ham, if you look at our totals over all the Premier League years.

"We'll keep banging at the door.

"We finish with a really tough game at Manchester City so the next two games we'll look to get something.

"Today keeps us in the hunt."

West Ham will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

DENVER Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. hasn't been afraid to give back to his parents who helped him reach the NBA.

Porter Jr. gifted cars to his mom and dad during his first two seasons in the NBA.

Porter Jr. also bought his dad a Tesla SUV for Christmas in 2020[/caption]

The Nuggets selected Porter Jr. with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

He signed a rookie contract with Denver that earned him about $2.5 million in 2018.

In that same year, Porter Jr. bought his mom, Lisa, a 2018 Ford Flex.

The NBA star posted an Instagram clip of himself gifting the SUV to the mother.

Both hugged each other as Lisa went inside the Ford SUV.

And Porter Jr.'s generosity didn't stop there.

In 2020, Porter Jr. surprised his dad, Michael Porter Sr., with a Tesla Model Y for Christmas.

A video showed the moment when Porter invited his dad outside through his garage.

The door opens and Porter Sr. sees the Tesla as he thinks it's his son's car.

But Porter Jr. says "Merry Christmas" to which the father realizes the electric SUV is for himself.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Porter Sr. can be heard saying "Man, you didn't have to do this" to which his son answers back, "I didn't have to but I wanted to."

Less than a year later, Porter Jr. would receive a reward for his services from the Nuggets.

In September 2021, Denver signed Porter Jr. to a five-year, $172 million rookie extension.

They made the deal after the Missouri product averaged 19 points per game in the 2020 campaign.

In 2021, Porter Jr. only played in nine games and missed the rest of the season after undergoing back surgery.

Better days would be there for Porter in the 2022-23 season as he helped the Nuggets win their first NBA title in its history.

He also played in 81 games this season, posting 16.7 points per game along with an average of seven rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Porter Jr. averaged 22.8 points per game in Denver's first-round series win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

So far, Porter Jr. has made $79 million in career earnings.

RAFAEL VAN DER VAART took a surprise shot at Erik ten Hag on Dutch television yesterday when he said the manager "Is doing his best to become available".

It came as former Real Madrid and Spurs star Van der Vaart discussed Ajax's managerial options with former Barcelona and Stoke winger Ibrahim Afellay.

Ajax have had a disastrous season and find themselves fifth in the Dutch league.

When discussing how to rectify the club's situation, Afellay said: "Ajax need to give the club back in the hands of trusted people.

"If they just wait a little longer, there is a big chance Erik ten Hag will become available."

Van der Vaart then cheekily added: "Well, Erik ten Hag himself is doing his best too to become available."

The comment comes as Ten Hag finds himself coming under increasing pressure at United.

His position has been insecure since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in Manchester United, with Ratcliffe refusing to publicly back Ten Hag.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with relegation battlers Burnley leaves United in sixth, one point ahead of Newcastle with the two teams still to play each other.

Should they be overhauled by the Geordies, United will be facing Europa Conference League qualification at best through the league.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

They could still secure a Europa League spot if they win the FA Cup, but even reaching the final of that competition was achieved in embarrassing fashion.

The club gave away a three goal lead to Championship Coventry in the semi-final and needed penalties to reach the final.

Dutch reports claim that Erik ten Hag is Ajax's top target should he leave United at the end of this season.

Ten Hag had a wildly successful spell in charge in Amsterdam between 2017 and 2022 where he won the Dutch league three times and reached the Champions League semi-final in 2019.

It comes as United are reportedly considering both England boss Gareth Southgate and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter should the club part ways with Ten Hag at the end of the season.

A BOY was left "in shock" after he was knocked off his bike by a car that fled the scene yesterday.

The 11-year-old was cycling home from his friends house in Ballybofey, Co Donegal when a car came up behind him and hit his bike.

He was travelling towards Glen Patrick park when the car knocked the back wheel off his bike, causing him to fall onto the road.

He was not seriously injured in the horror incident but sustained some painful cuts on his hands and knees after hitting the tarmac.

Speaking to the Nine til Noon Show on HighLand Radio, his mum told how her little boy was "in shock obviously".

She said: "By the time he actually got up, the car was gone.

"The car didn't stop it just drove off and left him lying there."

The worried mum issued an urgent appeal to her friends on social media yesterday, asking for anyone who may have camera footage or a ring doorbell in the area to come forward.

And she told how someone in the area had spotted the car stop just a short distance away after injuring the young lad.

She explained: "Late last night I got a phone call from someone that lives in the park and she said she was in her garden and she seen the car.

"And it actually stopped and it looked like the two of them were having an argument in the car. The car just took off then.

"She said she looked back at her ring doorbell and this happened at 3:46pm at the top of the Glenpatrick estate."

The Irish Sun have contacted An Garda Siochana for a comment.

FINGAL County Council has delivered 'a knock out blow' to plans by Conor McGregor for a boutique style seaside hotel for Howth in north county Dublin.

The council has refused planning permission to G Boppers Ltd for the 35 bedroom hotel after a wave of local opposition with one local woman raising concerns that the hotel may be an Ibiza-style party venue.

G Boppers Ltd was seeking planning permission to demolish a part four storey and part-two storey building and in their place construct a part five-storey and part four-storey terraced building on the site of the The Waterside Bar, Harbour Road and Church Street, Howth.

The scheme was to include a pub and restaurant and boutique hotel bedrooms on the second, third and fourth floors including a 122 sq metre residents' terrace area.

Now, in a refusal on two grounds, the council has, taking into account the location of the hotel at Church Street, Howth and the preserved view along the street, concluded that the proposal "would interfere with the character of the landscape or with a view or prospect of special amenity value or natural interest or beauty".

The council also found that the development proposal would adversely affect an Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) and contravene the Fingal Co Development Plan.

The planning authority refused the scheme on these grounds after finding that there was an absence of a high quality architectural approach to justify demolishing an existing significant building within the ACA taken in conjunction with the design, scale, mass and height of the planned hotel.

The most recent accounts for G Boppers Ltd show that in 2022, McGregor Sports and Entertainment Ltd provided €2.24m in interest free funding to the firm.

During the same period, G Boppers Ltd acquired land and buildings with a book value of €2.08m.

A Design Report lodged with the application by Prof Cathal O'Neill + Company Architects contended that the scheme "seeks to make appropriate use of the site which has been under-utilised for many years and to provide guest accommodation which is sorely needed in the area".

Architect with the firm, Garrett O'Neill told the council that "local social media laments the loss of hotels including the St Lawrence Hotel, Royal Hotel, Sutton Castle, Howth Lodge and, in the more distant past, the Waverly Hotel.

"Currently, the Booking.com website lists only one B&B and one Guest House on Howth Head."

Mr O'Neill stated that the design of the proposed scheme "retains the existing public house use which is known to be well over one hundred years old, and to have a related restaurant which avails of the picturesque location and views".

Advancing the case for the hotel, Mr O'Neill said: "We believe the proposed hotel use is respectful of the scale and massing of the existing townscape and integrates well with the urban grain."

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

He contended that "the proposed mix of long established public house use with the traditionally complementary accommodation function, could not be more appropriate to this sea-side location."

However, local resident Monica Lambert told the Council that she strongly objected "to the unprecedented large roof garden/beer garden".

She said: "While it is softly couched as a garden for residents it will without doubt be used as a beer and party garden reminiscent of Ibiza parties."

Ms Lambert said: "This is a quiet residential area and the current proposal is unprecedented and wholly out of character with a quiet residential area."

In total, the Council received 19 third party submissions.
P&L Rickard of Dunbo Hill, Howth told the council that the proposal is "out of scale" "oversized" and "nondescript".

Noel Loftus told the council that he resides next door to the proposed hotel and while there are many aspects of the proposed development that he welcomes he was limiting his "strong objection" to just one aspect – "the large outdoor terraced balcony".

The St Lawrence Quay Management Ltd represents 18 apartment owners on Harbour Rd.

On their behalf, company secretary, Brona Carton told the Council that the proposed roof terrace for hotel residents' use will result in an increase in noise in the area creating a nuisance for local residential and which may continue late into the night.

The objection added: "The high level roof terrace will overlook domestic properties in the area, including their gardens and terraces.

"This will result in the loss of privacy for those properties including the St Lawrence Quay development."

CONVICTED killer Robert Redmond has pleaded guilty to conspiring to murder a dad, who was shot dead while pushing his four-month-old son in a pram in broad daylight five years ago.

Robert Redmond, 35, who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of father-of-eight Barry Wolverson, was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this afternoon.

Redmon, with a previous address at Streamville Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin 13, pleaded guilty to conspiring together, with another or others, to murder 22-year-old Jordan Davis on or about May 22 2019, within the State.

Redmond was originally charged with the murder of Davis, who was fatally shot by a gunman on a bike while pushing his four-month-old son's buggy in a laneway beside Our Lady of Immaculate National School in Darndale on May 22, 2019.

Drug dealer Davis suffered three gunshot wounds including one to the head that killed him instantly.

Redmond is the second person to be dealt with in relation to the offence.

In 2022, drug dealer Wayne Cooney, 33, was jailed for life for Davis' murder.

Mr Justice Paul McDermott today remanded Redmond in custody until May 13, for a sentence hearing.

It is expected that a victim impact report will be heard on that date.

At a Policing Authority meeting in Co Limerick, Harris was asked about the potential for a new criminal investigation following last week's inquests' verdict of unlawful killing.

And the Garda Commissioner told how he has asked officers to revisit two tranches of files regarding the Stardust disaster.

Harris said he expects to receive a report shortly from the Dublin City coroner.

He added that there was a memorandum of understanding in place, where, in the wake of the verdict, the coroner will bring issues to his attention if she thinks they are relevant to gardaí.

Harris said he has asked the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation to "revisit" two investigation files that were submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions, one from the early 80s and another from 2016.

He said he expects to receive a report from the coroner Dr Myra Cullinane in the next two or three weeks.

Harris acknowledged that the inquest verdict has "brought our investigations back to the fore".

The top cop said: "We're at the beginning of the road in examining what's being done."

And the Irish Sun's podcast on the Stardust fire tragedy is sailing up the charts just hours after it was released.

The eight-parter explores one of Ireland's worst disasters, telling the tragic story of the infamous night of February 14 1981 when 48 young people lost their lives in the Stardust nightclub in Artane, Dublin.

And following its premiere on Thursday, the pod was a hit on all popular podcast platforms.

A fresh episode will be released weekly as the Irish Sun investigates one of the most shocking disasters in Irish history.

Taoiseach Simon Harris this week issued a State apology to the families of the Stardust fire tragedy – more than 40 years after the blaze.

Mr Harris is to write a "personal" letter of apology to Stardust families in the aftermath of his State apology in the Dail.

The Taoiseach pledged to write to families in the coming days to express his remorse for what happened.

A new inquest into the fire at the Stardust nightclub in Artane, Dublin, on Valentine's Day in 1981 found the blaze was started by an electrical fault in a hot press.

The jury ruled the 48 victims – aged 16 to 27 – were unlawfully killed, with a number of issues contributing to their deaths, including the fact some exits were locked.

The new inquiry into the tragedy came after 43 years of campaigning by families who were distraught at the finding of a separate probe which ruled the horror inferno was arson.

The State repeatedly blocked the families' attempts to get the truth and justice for their lost loved ones.

After the ruling of the new inquest, Mr Harris announced the Government plans to provide counselling for the Stardust families.

The families' solicitor Darragh Mackin welcomed the move, saying this is the first time they have been provided with the necessary support to accompany them "on this deeply traumatic journey".

Mackin highlighted how grieving relatives had told the Taoiseach last weekend how they had been "left out in the cold having to fend for themselves without any support or counselling services".

The families' solicitor said the Mr Harris has now acted and should be commended for responding with decisiveness.
