NEW YORK (AP) — Daniil Medvedev has split with longtime coach Gilles Cervara after a disappointing year in the Grand Slam tournaments ended with hismeltdown in a first-round loss at the U.S. Open. Medvedev, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, and Cervara both posted messages Sunday on Instagram, thanking each other for a successful partnership that included the Russian reaching No. 1 in the ATP rankings. "I am grateful to you for guiding me through all these years and let's see what life brings us in the future," Medvedev wrote about their "amazing 8-10 years together" in the caption of a photo of them holding their U.S. Open trophies. Medvedev has won 20 titles but has fallen to No. 13 in the rankings and lost in the first round of the last three major tournaments, including twice to Benjamin Bonzi. It was during his loss to Bonzi last week that he had a tirade after the chair umpire allowed Bonzi another first serve after a photographer came onto the court during the match, eventuallygetting fined $42,500bythe U.S. Openfor unsportsmanlike conduct and racket abuse. Cervara wrote that he loved coaching and supporting Medvedev "(even when it was difficult), and finding solutions with you and the team to help you perform." "I will keep in mind your unconventional magic as a player, which is your strength," he added. "It will return, I'm sure." ___ AP tennis:https://apnews.com/hub/tennis

The end of 'Linsanity': Jeremy Lin retires after trailblazing basketball careerNew Foto - The end of 'Linsanity': Jeremy Lin retires after trailblazing basketball career

Jeremy Lin is ready to let the final buzzer sound on a remarkable 15-year basketball career that captured headlines across the globe and for a few weeks in 2012 made New York City the epicenter of the basketball universe. The NBA icon announced his retirement in anInstagram postSaturday, writing that although he knew the end would come, it was the "hardest decision I've ever made." "It's been the honor of a lifetime to compete against the fiercest competitors under the brightest lights and to challenge what the world thought was possible for someone who looks like me," Lin, 37, wrote. "I've lived out my wildest childhood dreams to play in front of fans all around the world. I will forever be the kid who felt fully alive every time I touched a basketball." Lin's career caught fire when he led the New York Knicks to a seven-game winning streak in 2012, his first year as a point guard in the team's starting lineup. "Linsanity" overtook the Big Apple as his performance propelled the Knicks to the 2012 playoffs and turned him into an international phenomenon. In the wake of his breakout stardom, Lin, then 23, appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated (for two consecutive weeks) and Time magazine, which named himone of the 100 most influential peoplein the world. "He's dispelled the idea that Asian-American guards somehow couldn't hack it in the NBA — and that being a world-class athlete on the court is somehow at odds with being an excellent student off the court," Time wrote of his success. Lin defied stereotypes as the first person of Chinese or Taiwanese descent to make it to the NBA. By the time he graduated from Harvard University in 2010, the Taiwanese American athlete had become the first player in Ivy League history to record at least 1,450 points throughout his college career. After graduation, Lin was passed over for the NBA draft in 2010 before signing with his hometown Golden State Warriors as a free agent. After being cut by both the Warriors and the Houston Rockets in 2011, Lin signed with the Knicks at the end of the year. For the first few weeks of 2012, Lin spent most of his games warming the bench. It wasn't until February that he was given a chance on the court to turn around an abysmal season for the team. At the height of his "Linsanity" run, he stoked even more audience fervor when hehit a winning 3-pointeragainst the Toronto Raptors with less than a second left on the clock. Lin also became the first NBA player to score at least 20 points and dole out seven assists in each of his first five starts. Lin continued his NBA career with stints on the Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Raptors, among others. While with the Raptors in 2019, he became the first Asian American player to win an NBA championship. He later took his basketball career across the Pacific to China's Beijing Ducks and Guangzhou Loong Lions, as well as Taiwan's Kaohsiung Steelers and New Taipei Kings, where he ended his career this year as MVP of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League. "So many people have sacrificed and poured into my journey, more than I could ever repay. Thank you all for believing in me, for walking with me, for celebrating my highs and picking me up in my lows," Lin wrote in his retirement post. "This is a ride I never wanted to end but I know it's time. I will forever miss playing basketball in front of you all but our time will go beyond just playing. Here's to what's ahead."

Tracey Bregmanis soap opera royalty, but there are some people who haven't been too fond of some of her storylines. Bregman recently claimed that her most famous character, Lauren Fenmore in "The Young and the Restless," was originally so poorly received that she received death threats. She went as far as saying "people tried to run me off the freeway" due to her character's behavior. Lauren Fenmore made her first appearance in the long-runningdaytime dramain 1983, and Bregman has been playing her ever since. While the character is a fan favorite now, it wasn't always that way. In the beginning, Lauren was a bully, and Bregman recalled specifically that her character's treatment of co-star Beth Maitland's Traci Abbott was a tough pill for fans to swallow. 'General Hospital' Star Says Goodbye To Hollywood After 35 Years With Cross-country Move Speaking on the"Soapy"podcast, she confirmed she received backlash for her character's harsh words and said it was also difficult personally to say those kinds of things to Maitland. Read On The Fox News App "That was very, very difficult because Beth is one of my best friends for 42 years," she said. "And I knew, because we were so close, how she was really feeling about a lot of things." Like What You're Reading? Click Here For More Entertainment News She recalled a story based on Maitland being "a little overweight and being conscious about that," saying, "Then I had to say the worst things to her, and Beth will tell you that I cried more than she did over it because I could barely get it out sometimes." There were "fun times" during filming too, but Bregman said, "I will tell you, it was a double-edged sword playing the mean girl because I would get death threats, and people tried to run me off the freeway." The podcast's hosts, fellow soap starsGreg Rikaartand Rebecca Budig, were shocked by that. "No, it was bad," Bregman said. "There were some bad parts that I never really talked about, actually." Bregman has played the role of Lauren in over 2,000 episodes, 1,847 on "The Young and the Restless" and 377 on "The Bold and the Beautiful." Before she took on the character, she got her start in soap operas by playing Donna Temple Craig in "Days of Our Lives" in over 150 episodes from 1978 to 1980. Last month,"General Hospital"actress Eva LaRue spoke about her departure from the show after just one season, admitting it was "hard" for her personally that her character was despised by fans after being a fan favorite during her time on "All My Children." "It was hard for me, actually — for me as a person," she toldSoap Opera Digest. "Because, in daytime, when you play a character like Maria Santos, love her or hate her, she was not ever meant to be a vilified character. And so it was hard from being that character, being a fan favorite, to being, like, literally hated. "The GH fans couldn't stand [her character]! So that was tough, because especially if you are accustomed to being rooted for, to be rooted against is not as comfortable." John Oates reflects on his own mortality after Ozzy Osbourne's death: 'I take it very seriously'New Foto - John Oates reflects on his own mortality after Ozzy Osbourne's death: 'I take it very seriously'

Joy Malone/Getty; Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty John Oatesis determined to make the most of his life as he says goodbye to some of his contemporaries. "I see the horizon's a little closer for me now than it was back when I was younger, which is as it should be, really," the 77-year-old singer-songwriter tellsEntertainment Weeklyduring a recentinterview about his new self-titled album,Oates. He says it was that feeling that gave him the need to "step away" from his beloved rock duoHall and Oatesand "make a statement on my own" as a solo artist following the loss of so many beloved musicians, citing the recent death ofOzzy Osbourne. "When I look around, and I don't want to become morose about this, but when I look around... Even just recentlyOzzy Osbourne, you know? So many people are passing away," Oates remarks. "People who are my age — younger than me, even — and I see them falling by the wayside for any number of reasons." Osbourne, a true heavy metal pioneer and founding member ofBlack Sabbath, died July 22aftersuffering a heart attack. He was 76 years old. As a result, the "Mending" singer explains that he's come to feel like "there's a time stamp on my creative life," too. And he wants to make sure that every minute is spent wisely. With every loss, Oates says that he's reminded that he still has "something to give" to the world through his music and to keep pushing forward as an artist in his own right. "I'm still at the point in my life where I can still write, I can still sing, I can still play," he explains. "I've got something to give, and who knows how long it's going to last. And so I take it very seriously." That motivation has also led him tobid farewell to his over five-decade-long musical partnership with Daryl Hall— which spawned hits like "Rich Girl," "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," and "Out of Touch" — and to invest in himself and the message that he wants to share with the world as a soloist. "I needed to take this [opportunity]," Oates shares. "I needed to step away from Hall and Oates, and I needed to really get a lot of the creative feelings, emotions, and thoughts out there on my own — to make a statement on my own as I get to this point in my life." Gary Gershoff/Getty The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer is doing just that with the release ofOates. The 13-track record sees the New York native expertly float tales of love, heartbreak, positivity, and frustration over a dreamy bed of smooth soul, R&B, and bossa nova melodies. "To me, the legacy of Hall and Oates and the things that Daryl and I created together is like a visit to a museum," he explains. "It will stand the test of time and hopefully still resonate further into the future. That music will hopefully never go away — which I'm so proud of — but, at the same time, you walk through a museum after a few hours, your feet start hurting, and you've seen so many beautiful things, and you say, 'Okay, enough is enough. I gotta move on. I've gotta go out into the sunshine and see what else is out there.'" Oatesis available now. Read the original article onEntertainment Weekly

Jelena Ostapenko apologizes on social media for what she said to Taylor Townsend at the US OpenNew Foto - Jelena Ostapenko apologizes on social media for what she said to Taylor Townsend at the US Open

NEW YORK (AP) — Jelena Ostapenko apologized on social media Saturday for tellingTaylor Townsendshe had "no education" after losing to her at theU.S. Openearlier in the week, explaining that she intended to call out Townsend for what Ostapenko perceived as poortennis etiquette. Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion from Latvia, wrote in a post that English is not her native language, "so when I said education, I was speaking only about what I believe (is) tennis etiquette, but I understand how the words I used could have offended many people beyond the tennis court." Townsend said she was unaware of the apology when she began her news conference following her doubles victory Saturday. She smiled while listening to a reporter read Ostapenko's post aloud. "That's nice that she did that, that she apologized," Townsend said, adding she has not personally heard from Ostapenko. "That's fine. That's cool. At the end of the day, I think that it's a learning lesson for her. ... It's great that she went to social media and apologized. But I really hope that, from this, she can take that like, hey, you can't control people and it's better just to focus on yourself." After the episode on Wednesday, when the two players had an extended back-and-forth after shaking hands at the net, a reporter asked Townsend, who is Black, whether she thought there were racial undertones to what Ostapenko said on the court. "I didn't take it in that way, but also, you know, that has been a stigma in our community of being 'not educated' and all of the things, when it's the furthest thing from the truth," Townsend responded. Ostapenko wrote on social media that day that she found Townsend "disrespectful" for not apologizing after beinghelped by a net cordduring a point. Ostapenko also complained that Townsend beganwarming upbefore the match up at the net, instead of back at the baseline. Snoop Dogg has responded to the backlash surrounding his comments about LGBTQ+ representation in Disney and Pixar's "Lightyear." On Wednesday,Hollywood Unlockedreposted an interview with media personality TS Madison on Instagram, in which she discussed Snoop Dogg's push back on "Lightyear's" inclusion of a gay couple. The 16-time Grammy winner later took to the comments to explain he was just "caught off guard" at the time, and that he hopes his friends in the LGBTQ+ community can "teach me how to learn." More from Variety Snoop Dogg Says 'I'm Scared to Go to the Movies' After Pixar's Gay Couple in 'Lightyear' Led to Questions From His Grandson: 'These Are Kids. We Have to Show That at This Age?' 'Outer Banks' Alum Jonathan Daviss to Play Snoop Dogg in Upcoming Biopic Snoop Dogg to Host New Year's Eve Special for NBC and Peacock "I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons," he wrote. "All my gay friends [know] what's up, they been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old. Teach me how to learn. I'm not perfect." During an appearance on the "It's Giving" podcast, Snoop Dogg said he is "scared to go to the movies" after he brought his grandson to "Lightyear" and had to field questions about the film's same-sex couple. "It fucked me up," he said. "I'm like, scared to go to the movies. Y'all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don't have an answer for… It threw me for a loop. I'm like, 'What part of the movie was this?' These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They're going to ask questions. I don't have the answer." "Lightyear" screenwriter Lauren Gunderson also issued a response on Instagram. In a post on Wednesday, she defended her decision to write a same-sex relationship into the film. "I'm proud of it. To infinity. Love is love," Gunderson wrote. "I was one of a few writers they had on it over the years, which is very common for screenwriting of course. I had very little to do with the final script. But I was proud to see a happy queer couple (even for a few seconds) onscreen. I know they got a lot of shit for this inclusion, but stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists." Not only did "Lightyear" feature one of Disney and Pixar's most prominent LGBTQ+ characters, it also depicted the first same-sex kiss in a movie. Asreported byVariety, the moment was met with controversy internally at Pixar after the studio considered cutting the scene. Employees and allies at Pixar sent a joint statement to Walt Disney Company leadership claiming executives had censored "overtly gay affection" in Disney films. The kiss was kept as a result. Orlando Bloom recalls being 'ordered around and screamed at' while filming "Black Hawk Down"

Columbia Pictures/ Everett Orlando Bloomgot quite the military experience while making the war filmBlack Hawk Down. While speaking at Fan Expo Chicago 2025 recently, Bloom told the audience that, for him as a then up-and-coming actor, the 2002 film "was like from the frying pan into the fire" and involved a lot of "being ordered around and screamed at." Inspired by real-life events of the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia in 1993,Black Hawk Downfollows 160 elite U.S. soldiers who are dropped into the country to capture an enemy warlord's two top lieutenants, but instead find themselves in a desperate battle with a contingent of armed Somalis. The massive cast also includes Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Sam Shepard, Jeremy Piven, Ioan Gruffudd, Ewen Bremner, Hugh Dancy, and Tom Hardy in his first film role, among others. Chris Cosgrove for EW According to Bloom, because the film was produced byJerry Bruckheimerand directed byRidley Scott, and "Jerry doesn't do anything in half measures nor does Ridley," the experience was "pretty epic" but also brutal. "We went to Fort Benning. It was so brutal. I mean it was like, I think I almost tore... I slightly tore my meniscus in my knee, but I managed to strap it and get through it," he said. Bloom then recalled how fellow actorBen Fosterwasn't so lucky. "I think Ben properly tore his groin muscle, because everyone was really trying to go for it. And I think he had to be recast, so that was really serious." He continued, "Yeah, it was intense. We were in the bunks and being ordered around and screamed at and yelled at, and really it was an intense thing." In addition to the trial-by-fire experience it gave the young star, it also allowed Bloom the opportunity to explore a new country. "We spent six months in Morocco and we were sporadic in filming — and I'm really only in the beginning bit and then fall from the helicopter and then I'm there — it's sporadic, but I felt like I was there forever because you're a young actor and they can pay you to be there, which was great," he said. "I actually had a great time in Morocco as well. I had a friend, and we'd go to different parts of the country and check it out, which was cool as well. I love to travel, love to experience different cultures, and there's an amazing culture in Morocco," he added. Chris Cosgrove for EW Want more movie news? So, all in all, despite the physical demands and all the yelling, was it worth it? "Yeah, I love that movie," Bloom gushed. "I'm very proud — and the soundtrack to that movie is awesome." When the moderator pointed out the film also "still holds up to today," Bloom concluded, "Yeah, it's one of those good war films." No. 1 Jannik Sinner gets pushed before finishing off Denis ShapovalovNew Foto - No. 1 Jannik Sinner gets pushed before finishing off Denis Shapovalov

No. 1 player in the world Jannik Sinner of Italy dropped his first set Saturday, but he rallied in familiar dominating fashion to down Canadian Denis Shapovalov 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 at the U.S. Open in New York. Sinner, the defending champion, experienced little trouble in this tournament leading into the match with the 27th-seeded) Shapovalov. But he was put on his heels early on Saturday, falling behind 4-1 in the first set before taking three straight games to even things up at 5-5. Shapovalov answered with a dramatic back-and-forth victory in the sixth before closing out the set. Worryingly for Sinner, Shapovalov dominated on aces 15-2 and nearly bested him on winners, falling 31-30. But the top-seeded Sinner recaptured his usual form by again rallying, this time from down 3-2, to emerge with a 6-4 win in the second set. "It was a very, very tough match today," Sinner said following the match. "I've known Denis for quite a while, so I knew that I would have to play at a high level today. I'm very happy that I managed to win. He started off very well. I just tried to stay there mentally." Sinner again fell behind in the third set, with Shapovalov sprinting out to a 3-0 lead, but Sinner responded with six straight wins to take that set. He finally gained the early advantage in the final set, pressing his 3-0 lead into an eventual 6-3 win. Shapovalov was partly undone by mistakes, enduring 47 unforced errors and nine double faults. The win for Sinner sets up a second-round match with Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik, a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 winner late Saturday over 14th seed Tommy Paul. Bublik, the 23rd seed, had more aces (22-10) as well as more double faults (12-4) but saved all six of his break points while converting three of eight opportunities. Third-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany fell to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday night. Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second week of this event for the first time since reaching the semifinals in 2021. "This feels good. This feels good," said Auger-Aliassime, who bested Zverev in winners (50-29). "I've been coming here since 2018. I'm still young, but it's been a few years and I'm working my way. Some of you it might be the first time you're watching me tonight. But this feels really good. "Obviously job's not done. The tournament's still going, but this means a lot to me. A lot of hard work, many years." In other action, No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev of Russia overcame Hong Kong's Coleman Wong 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Rubley had 15 aces and survived Wong's assault of 25. No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti beat fellow Italian countryman Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2, 2-0 with Cobolli retiring with a right arm injury. No. 8 Alex de Minaur of Australia was leading 6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-4, 2-0 in the fourth set when Germany's Daniel Altmaier retired due to a thigh injury. In unranked battles, Spain's Jaume Munar cruised past Belgium's Zizou Bergs 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, and Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi was up 5-3 in the first set when Kamil Majchrzak of Poland retired due to a rib injury. No. 435 Riedi owns the lowest ranking of any player to reach the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam tournament since Richard Krajicek at Wimbledon in 2002. --Field Level Media

Even if you're a national championship-winning program, big victories call for a storming of the field. Despite being the underdog, the Seminoles controlled the majority of the game. But the fans still wanted to celebrate the major victory, and they stormed the field the moment the game ended. Conferences have tried to punish teams for allowing fans to storm the field, mostly citing safety concerns. The ACC is not different, introducing new requirements over the summer for field storming after football games. Under the new rules announced in July, schools must develop a security plan to ensure all players, coaches, officials and personnel can safely exit the field of play before fans run onto the playing surface. It applies to football as well as men's and women's basketball. Spectators are allowed to enter the field of play once the visiting team and officials have "safely" exited. Based on video inside Doak Campbell Stadium, it appears fans began storming the field beforeAlabamaleft to the locker room, therefore violating the policy. While it's unknown if it applies to non-conference games, under the new policy, Florida State will be fined $50,000 as a first-time offender. The fine increases to $100,000 for a second offense and $200,000 for the third time.
