SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers released special teams standout George Odum on Saturday in the latest move to overhaul that unit. Odum had been placed on the non-football injury list on Friday and now is off the roster entirely before the first training camp practice is scheduled for Wednesday. Odum had spent the past three seasons with the Niners, leading them with 759 snaps on special teams and tied for the fourth-most special teams tackles in the NFL with 36 in that span. Odum was a second-team All-Pro for San Francisco in 2022 but missed 11 games the past two seasons with injuries. The Niners have made major changes on their special teams after struggles in 2024 led to the firing of coordinator Brian Schneider. Brant Boyer was hired to take over and has made changes at punter, with Thomas Morstead replacing Mitch Wishnowsky and long snapper with Jon Weeks replacing Taybor Pepper. The Niners also brought in kicker Greg Joseph to compete with incumbent Jake Moody and several other players with extensive special teams experience including linebackers Chazz Surratt and Luke Gifford, tight end Luke Farrell and defensive backs Richie Grant, Siran Neal and Jason Pinnock. The Niners placed several other players on injured lists Friday to start training camp, with all being eligible to be activated at any time. Receivers Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and Ricky Pearsall (hamstring), safety Malik Mustapha (knee), linebacker Curtis Robinson (knee), defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (undisclosed) and offensive lineman Andre Dillard (undisclosed) are all on the physically unable to perform list. Offensive lineman Ben Bartch (undisclosed) is on the non-football injury list. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Monica Schipper/Getty Katy Perry's Lifetimes Tour had fans buggin' out on Friday. The pop star endured a scary prop malfunction while performing at the Chase Center in San Francisco during her most recent show. Fan videos show the "California Gurls" singer riding a giant flying mechanical butterfly prop through the air above the crowd as she sings her 2013 single "Roar" when suddenly one of the wires elevating the massive bug drops without warning. The mishap caused the gigantic insect to swing uncontrollably, but while Perry seemed understandably frightened for a moment, she maintained her balance. View this post on Instagram A post shared by People Magazine (@people) The technical gaffe, however, forced the vocalist to temporarily stop performing, as she abruptly cut off her singing after belting the final "I see it all, I see it now" of "Roar," leaving only the backing track to continue into the chorus as the audience gasped and nervously watched from their seats. Perry refrained from reciting the line "I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter / Dancing through the fire, 'cause I am a champion" as she regained her composure, but she jumped back in to sing "And you're gonna hear me roar." Perry later acknowledged the incident on Instagram, posting a blurry photo from the butterfly drop of her surprised face with the caption "Goodnight, San Fran." Katy Perry/Instagram A representative for Perry declined to comment whenEntertainment Weeklyreached out. The accident occurred in the midst of an eventful year for the "Firework" singer. The "Party 4 U" singer, 32, andThe 1975drummer, 35, tied the knot in a ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London on Saturday, July 19. The longtime loves kept their nuptials low-key, saying "I do" in front of a small group of loved ones, including Charli's parents and Daniel's bandmates (minus frontmanMatty Healy). Photos of the London nuptials show the couple smiling and sharing a kiss on the front steps of the town hall. For the intimate ceremony, Daniel wore a simple suit and Charli wore a silky, off-the-shoulder midi dress and classic tulle veil, her sparkler on full display. (True to form, she also sported a pair of chunky, black sunglasses at one point after exiting the venue.) Click News and Media / BACKGRID Reps for Charli and Daniel did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on July 19. TheBrathitmaker (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison)quietly shared the news of her engagementto Daniel in November 2023, first posting a look at her ring on her private Instagram and later revealing their new relationship status in a post on her public Instagram. The official announcement featured a set of photos of the alt-pop artist and her then-fiancé embracing, as well as an image of a tea tray with an engagement ring on it — a hint as to how Daniel popped the question. Click News and Media / BACKGRID Weeks after the engagement news, the "Von Dutch" singer shared on theSpout Podcasthow Daniel has opened up her creative process as she discussed her sixth studio album,Brat, which was later released on June 7. "We've done a couple of things together. He's not really all over it, but we've got a few ideas in the works," she said of the pair's collaboration on parts of the album. "It's funny, I have never sort of been in a relationship with someone that I've worked with, so it's like a whole new dynamic," the Grammy Award nominee continued. "But it's cool. There will be a couple of songs that he's worked on with me." Click News and Media / BACKGRID Charli also spoke on the podcast about how Daniel and his The 1975 bandmates have inspired her to slow down her music-making process. However, since watching The 1975 work, she has switched things up. "I have definitely adapted to the idea of sitting on songs, reworking things, playing them to friends, going back and forth, kind of living with the songs a bit more. So that is one way that my process has been perfected," she said. While Charli and Daniel enjoy collaborating, she toldRolling Stone U.K.that she can be "such a bitch in the studio" with him. David M. Benett/Jed Cullen/Dave Benett/Getty "We want to impress each other, and we think we're both really good, but I'm actually such a bitch in the studio with George," she told the outlet in August 2024. She added of Daniel, "We flow really well, and he leaves a lot of space for people to breathe and be them and do their process." The British musicians first connected professionally in 2021 while working on the single "Spinning" with The 1975 and No Rome. While it's unclear when they began dating, Charli confirmed their romance onInstagramin May 2022 after Daniel supported her at herSaturday Night Liveperformance that March. British Open: Scottie Scheffler 'in his own world' as he eyes major No. 4New Foto - British Open: Scottie Scheffler 'in his own world' as he eyes major No. 4

Rory McIlroy drew one of the great gallery roars of his life on Saturday at the British Open. Matt Fitzpatrick once again holed a miraculous eagle chip. Chris Gotterup and defending champion Xander Schauffele charged up the leaderboard. We even got a smile out of Tyrrell Hatton after a brilliant eagle of his own. And none of it mattered a bit, because Scottie Scheffler continued his relentless assault on Royal Portrush. Scheffler is now just 18 holes from his second major of the year, the third leg of the career grand slam, and the fourth major in his career. He's now four strokes clear of the field at 14-under, after finishing out a clean-card 4-under round with two birdies and an eagle. Outside of Scheffler, the wildest story of the day was easily the hometown kid. McIlroy birdied three of his first four, and carded an eagle on 12 that shook all of Northern Ireland. But he also somehow managed tounearth a second ball when firing from the rough on 11, and then a kid grabbed his ball when it rolled into the gallery along 17. Just a normal day for the No. 2 player in the world, who wrapped the day at -8. "If I hadn't have won a major this year, if I hadn't have won the Masters, I might have felt differently," McIlroy said after the round. "I've just really tried to embrace everything this week. I'm having an incredible time. I'm really enjoying myself, and I feel like I've given myself half a chance now." Players up and down the leaderboard took advantage of the day's ideal conditions — warm, clear, almost no wind — to post scores that dove deep into the red. Haotong Li quietly carded a -2 round to finish at -10 and set himself up for a Sunday final-round pairing. Fitzpatrick, in the final Saturday group alongside Scheffler, stumbled with three bogeys in the back nine and finished out the day at -9. "They just wouldn't go in. That's the long and short of it," Fitzpatrick said. "They went in yesterday. They didn't go in today." One week after his remarkable win at the Scottish Open, Chris Gotterup finished out at -8 for the day. Harris English also wrapped the day at -8 after a -3 round on the afternoon. Hatton closed out his day at -8 as well, another strong round for the Englishman still searching for his first major. But the story of the day — and, really, of the era — continues to be Scheffler, who passed every test that Royal Portrush could force on him. Scheffler threw down an eagle on 7 and a birdie on 8 to put some more distance between himself and the field, but otherwise kept up a smooth barrage of pars to keep everyone else at club's length. No matter whether Scheffler's shots ended up in the thatch or the bunkers, he found a way to escape with nothing worse than a par. "Anytime we're going around the course I'm trying to take advantage of my opportunities. Sometimes I do a better job of that than other times," Scheffler said. "It's more just a matter of trying to make the best of the opportunities that you can get, and sometimes I'm good at it, sometimes not as good." "When I watch Scottie play a lot, he just looks blacked out to me, just doing his thing," Schauffele said after his round. "He's just in his own world and nothing's going to bother him. He gets to that place often, which is a good thing for him." He's also dominant when he holds a 54-hole lead: Scottie Scheffler's last 9 outright 54-hole leads:WWWWWWWWW — Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf)July 19, 2025 "Winning major championships is not an easy task, and I've put myself in a good position," Scheffler said. "Going into tomorrow I'm going to step up there on the first tee and I'm going to be trying to get the ball in the fairway, and when I get to the second shot I'm going to be trying to get that ball on the green. There's not really too much else going on." We don't want to say that this is a done deal, but the British Open's engraver has already started carving S's into the Claret Jug.
