FormerAlabamahead coachNick Sabansaid that thenew executive ordersigned by PresidentDonald Trump, which seeks to clarify the employment status of collegiate athletes, is a "huge step" in the creation of more opportunities for players. Saban appeared on "Fox & Friends" the day after the order to give his take.Trump's ordermandates the U.S. Secretary of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board come up with a plan in the next 30 days to stop athletes from becoming professionals amid the chaos that has reigned in college sports since the implementation of players being able to monetize off their own name, image, and likeness. "The executive order provides a huge step in providing the educational model that has always been what we've sort of tried to promote to create opportunities for players, male and female alike, revenue and non-revenue, so that they can have development as people, students and develop careers and develop professionally if that's what they choose to do," Saban said. Saban agreed with the line of thinking and also said that clearing houses and companies are there to authenticate name, image, and likeness. "I think we need to make a decision here relative to do we want to have an education-based model, which I think the president made a huge step towards doing that, or do we want to have universities sponsor professional teams," Saban continued. MLB Hall of Fame ceremony: CC Sabathia asks for rides to Cooperstown after car breaks down on the wayNew Foto - MLB Hall of Fame ceremony: CC Sabathia asks for rides to Cooperstown after car breaks down on the way

Every athlete's journey to the Hall of Fame includes a few stumbles. For as great as the legends of the game perform, no player is immune to adversity. Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick, Michael Jordan got cut from his varsity team in high school and Joe Mauer had his career cut short by multiple injuries. The good outweighed the bad for CC Sabathia over his 19-year MLB career, resulting in the lefty getting inducted in the MLB Hall of Fame as a member of its 2025 class. But life had one more challenge to throw in front of Sabathia before his journey — literally — ended. While making the trek to Cooperstown ahead of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend, Sabathia's car broke down. The tall lefty and his family were looking for a ride on the way to the event. Car broke down on the way to Cooperstown 🤣🤣🤣 Anyone headed that way?pic.twitter.com/3v6De0Furg — CC Sabathia (@CC_Sabathia)July 25, 2025 They found one. Sabathia later tweeted that he made it to Cooperstown and thanked all his followers for actually offering up rides. Made it to Cooperstown!! Damn y'all are some real ones to offer rides and everything 😂 Much love! It's all part of the HOF memories 🙏🏾 — CC Sabathia (@CC_Sabathia)July 25, 2025 Sabathia did not reveal how he and his family made it to their destination. Given his comments, it doesn't seem likely he took up any fans on the offer. Now that Sabathia has arrived, the Hall of Fame ceremony can get underway. Sabathia is one of five players who will be inducted in the class of 2025. That list includes Dick Allen, Dave Parker, Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki and Billy Wagner. Coming into the voting, Sabathia's induction was no guarantee. While he won a Cy Young and was a World Series champion, he made just six All-Star teams. Voters believed Sabathia deserved better over his career, electing him in his first year of eligibility. He received 86.8 percent of the vote. Wagner had a much longer wait, not making the Hall of Fame until his 10th and final year on the ballot. Both men, along with Suzuki, will make speeches at the MLB Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday. Parker's son David will read Parker's speech afterthe outfielder diedin June. Allen's son, Richard Jr., will read a speech for his father, who died in 2020. The MLB Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. It will be aired on MLB Network, MLB.TV, MLB.com and the MLB App. It can also be streamed at theHall of Fame's website.

Bafta-winning actor Micheal Ward, known for roles in shows and films including Top Boy, Small Axe and Blue Story, has been charged with rape. Mr Ward, 27, of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, is charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police said. He said: "I deny the charges against me entirely," and added that he had co-operated with police fully throughout their investigation and had full faith it would lead to his name being cleared. The alleged offences relate to one woman and are reported to have taken place in January 2023, according to the police force. The actor made his name as one of the stars of cult hit Blue Story in 2019, and won the Rising Star prize at the Bafta Film Awards the following year. He played Jamie in Netflix hit Top Boy from 2019 to 22, and was nominated for best supporting actor at the Bafta TV Awards for Small Axe in 2021. The Jamaican-born actor also starred in acclaimed 2022 drama Empire of Light, and will be seen in forthcoming US pandemic-era Western movie Eddington, which is due to be released in the UK on 22 August. Mr Ward is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court in London on 28 August. Metropolitan Police Det Supt Scott Ware said: "Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward - we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports." Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, said: "Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Micheal Ward, 27, with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman in January 2023." She added: "We remind all concerned that proceedings against the suspect are active and he has a right to a fair trial. "It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in anyway prejudice these proceedings."

Culling of infected cows leads to shortened 19th stage of Tour de FranceNew Foto - Culling of infected cows leads to shortened 19th stage of Tour de France

LA PLAGNE, France (AP) — The 19th stage of theTour de Francewas shortened on Friday after cows infected by a contagious disease were culled in an area along the mountainous route. The stage from Albertville to La Plagne was meant to be 129.9 kilometers (80.5 miles) long but trimmed to 93.1 kilometers (57.7 miles), according to the official Tour website'sstage mapon Friday. Two of the five climbs were removed, including the 13.7 kilometer Col des Saisies — where an outbreak of nodular dermatitis affected a herd of cows, race organizer ASO said. "The discovery of an outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis (lumpy skin) affecting cattle in a herd located specifically in the Col des Saisies necessitated the culling of the animals," ASO said in a statement. "Given the consternation of the breeders concerned, and in order to maintain the calm of the race, it was decided, in agreement with the authorities, to modify the route of the 19th stage and not to cross the Col des Saisies." The start time of the stage was pushed back by one hour to 2:30 p.m. local time (1230 GMT), with an expected finishing time of around 5:30 p.m. Three-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia led overall heading into the stage, with two-time champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark 4 minutes, 26 seconds behind him in second place. Stage 19 represented Vingegaard's last realistic chance of overtaking Pogačar and taking the yellow jersey, with the race finishing on Sunday. Vingegaard and his Visma–Lease a Bike team had not been able to take time off Pogačar in this year's mountain stages. ___ More Tour de France coverage:https://apnews.com/tag/TourdeFranceandhttps://apnews.com/projects/tour-de-france-2025-race-stages-maps/

Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba avoid sanctions over All-Star snubNew Foto - Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba avoid sanctions over All-Star snub

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba have not been sanctioned for skipping Wednesday's MLS All-Star Game in Austin, Texas, their coach confirmed Friday. Both players were voted into the showcase by the fans and media but neither featured in the MLS squad's 3-1 win against the Liga MX All-Stars. League rules stipulate that players who choose to opt out of the All-Star Game without an approved medical reason can face a one-match suspension. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano pointed out that his team had "played the most games so far this semester, by far" and that Messi "showed normal fatigue from the number of games and minutes he's been playing," per ESPN. "Look, players always have discomfort, especially when they play every three days. But luckily, (Messi) is returning today," Mascherano said Friday. "Let's hope he can train alongside the group so we can count on both of them for tomorrow's game. We haven't received any (sanction)." Inter Miami host FC Cincinnati on Saturday night at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mascherano said Messi, 38, and Alba, 36, will be available for the match depending on their fitness levels. Messi shares the MLS lead with 18 goals and has 10 assists in 17 league matches this season. The Argentine forward also made six starts in the Concacaf Champions Cup and four in the FIFA Club World Cup. Alba has one goal and eight assists in 18 MLS matches. The Spanish defender made seven starts in the Champions Cup and one in the Club World Cup. --Field Level Media
