Broncos reportedly sign standout wide receiver Courtland Sutton to 4-year, $92 million extensionNew Foto - Broncos reportedly sign standout wide receiver Courtland Sutton to 4-year, $92 million extension

The Denver Broncos are rewarding one of their biggest playmakers with a lucrative extension. Wideout Courtland Sutton reportedly signed afour-year, $92 million dealto remain with the team, according to multiple reports. Sutton, 29, is coming off one of his best seasons in the NFL. He hauled in a career-high 81 passes for 1,081 yards and 8 touchdowns. All three of those figures led Broncos pass catchers last season. It's been quite a long road for Sutton in Denver. After a promising rookie season in 2018, he exploded onto the scene with an 1,112-yard, six-touchdown performance in his second year. Sutton appeared poised to emerge as one of the best, young receivers in football the following season, but tore his ACL after playing in just one game. He returned to action in 2021, and put up solid, but unspectacular numbers the next two seasons. Some of his struggles could be attributed to poor quarterback play — and poor coaching — in Denver at the time. His fortunes changed with the hiring of Sean Payton. In Payton's offense, Sutton emerged as a premier end-zone target capable of making tough, contested catches. While Sutton gained only 772 receiving yards, he hauled in 10 touchdowns, many of which came onsome spectacular plays. Things got even better for Sutton in 2024. While his touchdowns declined, he became a more consistent option in the Broncos' passing game, setting a new career high in catches and going over 1,000 receiving yards for the second time in his career. With Sutton under contract, he'll once again serve as the top target for Broncos second-year quarterback Bo Nix. Upon hearing the news, Nix seemed thrilled, saying he was "absolutely" excited about Sutton's new deal.

Guards' All-Star Emmanuel Clase placed on paid leave as part of MLB sports betting investigationNew Foto - Guards' All-Star Emmanuel Clase placed on paid leave as part of MLB sports betting investigation

Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of a Major League Baseball investigation into sports betting. Clase, a three-time All-Star, becomes the second Guardians pitcher to be placed on leave in connection with a sports gambling probe. Luis Ortiz also is on non-disciplinary leave through Aug. 31. It was unclear if the cases were related in any way. The Guardians said in a statement that they "have been informed that no additional players or club personnel are expected to be impacted." The 27-year-old Clase is 5-3 with 24 saves in 48 games this year, but he also has a career-high 3.23 ERA. The right-hander led the AL in saves in each of the previous three years and was speculated to be sought after in trades ahead of this week's MLB trade deadline. MLB said in a statement that Clase had been placed on leave per an agreement with the players' association while the league "continues its sports betting investigation." It declined further comment. Cleveland was slated to begin a three-game series against Colorado on Monday night. The Guardians are second in the AL Central with a 52-53 record. The Ortiz investigation is related to in-game prop bets ontwo pitches thrown by the right-handerthat received higher activity than usual during his starts at Seattle on June 15 and against St. Louis on June 27. The gambling activity on the pitches was flagged by a betting-integrity firm and forwarded to MLB. The situation with Clase and Ortiz comes after MLB suspended five players for gambling in June 2024, including a lifetime ban for San Diego Padres infielderTucupita Marcano. MLB said Marcano placed 387 baseball bets totaling more than $150,000 with a legal sportsbook in 2022 and 2023. Athletics pitcher Michael Kelly and three minor leaguers — San Diego pitcher Jay Groome, Arizona pitcher Andrew Saalfrank and Philadelphia infielder José Rodríguez — received one-year suspensions. UmpirePat Hoberg was fired by Major League Baseballin February for sharing his legal sports gambling accounts with a friend who bet on baseball games, and for intentionally deleting electronic messages pertinent to the league's investigation. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/MLB

Charles Barkley rips TNT for 'awful' treatment when 'Inside the NBA' future was in doubtNew Foto - Charles Barkley rips TNT for 'awful' treatment when 'Inside the NBA' future was in doubt

Charles Barkley heard from the co-workers who don't appear on screen duringTNT's "Inside the NBA"as its future was in flux over the past year ‒ about how they were worried about paying their mortgage or for their children's education if they were to lose this job. The lingering uncertainty bothered the former NBA star, and it still bothers him now that TNT lost the broadcast rights to the NBA and "Inside the NBA" isbeing licensed to ESPNbeginning with the 2025-26 season. Barkley blasted his bosses at TNT duringan interview on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcastreleased Monday because "they did an awful job keeping us abreast." "We were playing golf in the middle of the playoffs and we were reading the internet to find out if we were going to get fired or not," Barkley said. "And I was like TNT, our bosses, they suck, plain and simple. Yo man, just tell us. Shoot us straight because these are real people. ... And TNT never came to us like grown folks and said, 'Hey guys, we're probably going to lose the NBA,' which we could have understood. But I thought they sucked. I told them they sucked because there's a way you treat people." Barkley went on to reveal he found out TNT had licensed "Inside the NBA" to ESPN through congratulatory text messages from current ESPN hosts and analysts like Scott Van Pelt, Elle Duncan, Brian Windhorst and former Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers as the news broke. Barkley said he only received a call from TNT executives about 90 minutes later. "I get a text from Scott Van Pelt, Brian Windhorst, Elle Duncan and Bob Myers welcoming me to the family. I'm like, 'What family?' " Barkley recalled. "Then, about an hour and a half later, I get a call from TNT that the story broke. I said, 'Well, you probably could have given us a head's up. You've traded us to ESPN. We have to hear about it on the internet.' I said, 'That's just not the way you do business.' Ernie Johnson deserves, because he's the godfather, Ernie Johnson should not hear he got traded from ESPN people or the internet." TNT officially lost its NBA rights in July 2024. The NBA announceda new 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal with ABC/ESPN, NBC and Amazonthat goes into effect beginning with the 2025-26 season. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT, agreed to a licensing deal in November 2024 that will allow "Inside the NBA" to be broadcast on ESPN. The talent on the show ‒ Barkley, Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith ‒ will remain employees of TNT. Barkley has been on "Inside the NBA" since 2000, 10 years after it debuted with Johnson as host and two years after Smith joined the show. O'Neal joined the regular cast in 2011. ESPN,in its statement announcing the licensing agreement, said "the legendary Inside the NBA studio team will appear on ESPN and ABC surrounding high-profile live events, including ESPN's pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of the NBA Finals on ABC, Conference Finals, NBA Playoffs, all ABC games after January 1, Christmas Day, opening week, the final week of the season and other marquee live events." Barkley, however, remains skeptical about how ESPN will handle the Emmy-winning show. "I'm happy it's going on but it's going to be interesting," Barkley said on the podcast about "Inside the NBA" moving to ESPN. "It's going to be different, but you know that's the bad thing about it. We don't know how it's going to be different." This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:Charles Barkley rips TNT for 'Inside the NBA' uncertainty
