Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans eager to 'put on a show' as he seeks record-setting seasonNew Foto - Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans eager to 'put on a show' as he seeks record-setting season

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Mike Evans streaked into the secondary, cut outside and leaped to catch a perfect post-corner toss from Baker Mayfield. Fans at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' indoor practice facility roared. They're used to Evans making all the plays but No. 13 still manages to impress everyone watching. The six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver makes it look so effortless the way he glides after the ball. His routes are smooth and precise, his hands soft. At 6-foot-5, 231 pounds, he has a powerful frame so he can outmuscle defenders or outfinesse them when he needs to. Evans is the only player in NFL history to start his career with 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Only Jerry Rice had that many at any point. Evans is aiming for 12 in a row in a year when the Buccaneers celebrate the franchise's 50th season. There are no signs the 31-year-old is slowing down and his team goals are bigger than his personal ones. "I'm just happy that we have a really great team and we're using this training camp to put everything together to have one of the best seasons for the 50th," Evans said Tuesday. "I'm excited to put on a great show for y'all." At a position known for players with look-at-me personalities — Tyreek Hill, Michael Irvin, Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson — Evans lets his performance do most of the talking. He's quiet, humble and community-oriented. Evans is a four-time NFL Walter Payton Man of The Year nominee for the work he does along with his wife, Ashli, through their foundation, which empowers youth, encourages education and stands against domestic violence. Evans joined the Buccaneers in 2014 as the seventh overall pick and has become one of the greatest players in franchise history. Evans and Chris Godwin were a big reason why Tom Brady chose Tampa Bay in 2020 and the Buccaneers ended up winning a Super Bowl that season. From catching passes from Josh McCown and Mike Glennon as a rookie to Jameis Winston to Brady to Baker Mayfield, Evans continues to produce. He has 836 career catches for 12,684 yards and 105 touchdowns. Evans missed three games last season due to injury and didn't reach 1,000 yards until he caught a 9-yard pass on the final play of a 27-19 victory over the Saints that the Buccaneers needed to secure their fourth straight NFC South title. The reaction from Evans' teammates and the fans after that catch showed how much he's loved. "He always has (put the team first)," Mayfield said afterward. "That's why you love him. That's why we appreciate having him. We're lucky to have him and he's underappreciated throughout the media, the league and he's one of one. He deserves that. Obviously, you saw the stadium erupt, the sideline erupt. You can tell how much people care about him and what that means for everybody around him." Some veteran players are careful about mentoring young guys who will eventually replace them. Not Evans. Or Godwin for that matter. The Buccaneers drafted wideout Emeka Egbuka in the first round out of Ohio State. They selected Tez Johnson from Oregon in the seventh round. "It's constant. They're just so fortunate from Tez to 'Mek' (Egbuka) to Garrett (Greene) to be able to learn from them," Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard said. "We just had a walk through this morning and we can coach it up, but Chris and Mike were coaching up the concept just as much as myself and (wide receivers coach) 'B-Mac' (Bryan McClendon) were. And that's just on the field — I can't imagine what they talk about off the field on how to be a pro and how to conduct themselves. They couldn't have come into a better environment for people to learn from." ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Magic, Grizzlies to play in Berlin and London this season. More games coming to Manchester and ParisNew Foto - Magic, Grizzlies to play in Berlin and London this season. More games coming to Manchester and Paris

LONDON (AP) — The NBA will play at least six regular-season games in Europe over the next three seasons, starting with a pair of games between the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic this season. The Grizzlies and Magic will play in Berlin on Jan. 15, then in London on Jan. 18. The league will play games at Manchester, England and Paris in the 2026-27 season, then return to Berlin and Paris for games in the 2027-28 season. The games will be held at Berlin's Uber Arena, London's The O2, Manchester's Co-op Live and Paris' Accor Arena. "Announcing the next three season's regular-season games in Europe reflects the incredible momentum and appetite for NBA basketball in France, Germany, the UK and across the region," said George Aivazoglou, the NBA's managing director for Europe and the Middle East. "We look forward to welcoming the Grizzlies and the Magic to Berlin and London and to engaging fans, players and the local communities through the games and the surrounding events." The Berlin game in January will be the NBA's 14th in Germany since 1984, but the first regular-season game in the country — and will serve as a homecoming for Magic players Franz and Moritz Wagner, both of whom play for Germany's national team. The London game this season will be the 10th regular-season contest in that city. Manchester has never played host to a regular-season game, and Paris has been the site of five regular-season contests — including two last season between the Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs. French star Victor Wembanyama plays for the Spurs, which made them a logical choice to go to Paris for last season's series of games. The full NBA schedule for this season is expected to be released in mid-August. The dates and participating teams for the games in 2027 and 2028 will be announced prior to the 2026-27 and 2027-28 NBA seasons, respectively. ___ AP NBA:https://apnews.com/hub/nba

Trump denies responsibility in 'Late Show' cancellation, Stephen Colbert's firingNew Foto - Trump denies responsibility in 'Late Show' cancellation, Stephen Colbert's firing

PresidentDonald Trump, while still celebrating the demise of his late-night TV foe "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," is distancing himself as the reason for theshow's abrupt cancellation. "Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night. That is not true!" he wrote in a July 29Truth Social post. The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — and it was only going to get WORSE!" Colbertannounced on July 17that "The Late Show" would be ending in May after more than 30 years, with CBS parent company Paramount Global calling it "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night." A week later, following speculation by critics andoutspoken celebritiesthat this wasa politically motivated move, Paramountobtained FCC approvalfor an $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media. While"The Late Show" is the top ratedin the 11:30 p.m. slot, it was losing a reported $40 million a year. The day after Colbert's announcement, Trump celebrated the 30-year-old show's cancellation, writing, "I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings." 'Gutless':David Letterman unleashes on Paramount over 'Late Show' cancellation In his July 29 post, Trump once again put his other late-night adversaries, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, on notice. "Next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel, and then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon. The only real question is, who will go first?" the former "The Apprentice" star wrote. "Show biz and television is a very simple business. If you get ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don't, you always become a victim. Colbert became a victim to himself, the other two will follow." A week prior,he went after"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,"claimingwithout evidence that they would be "next to go." "It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!" he added. Fallon'scontract with NBCUniversalwill keep him at the network through 2028. Kimmelextended his contractin 2022 through his show's current 23rd season. Kimmel quicklyfired back on Instagramby posting a screenshot of the president's post alongside the caption, "I know you're busy Sharpie-ing the Epstein files, but this seems like a weird way to tell people to watch Matt Damon and Ken Jennings on an all-new Who Wants to Be a Millionaire tomorrow night at 8|7c on @ABC." CINCINNATI (AP) — Will Smith had an RBI double in the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Shohei Ohtani struck out four times in a major league game for the sixth time, but it was the first time it happened in his first four at-bats. The reigning NL MVP also had a nine-game hitting streak snapped. The Dodgers got three hits from Freddie Freeman, including a game-tying RBI single in the seventh inning, and Tommy Edman had a two-run homer in the first inning. Former Cincinnati closer Alexis Díaz (1-0), who was dealt to the Dodgers on May 29, pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Jake Fraley and Noelvi Marte homered for the Reds, who have dropped their last two games after winning four straight. Fraley had a two-run shot to right in the fourth inning tie it at 2-all and Marte followed two batters later with a drive to right to give Cincinnati the lead. Michael Conforto drew a walk off Emilio Pagán (2-3) to lead off the ninth. James Outman came on as a pinch-runner and scored when Smith lined a double off the left-field wall with two outs. Alex Vesia retired the Reds in order in the ninth for his fourth save. Key moment The Dodgers trailed 4-2 before evening it in the seventh inning on RBI base hits by Smith and Freeman. Key stat Cincinnati starter Nick Lodolo, whose 11 strikeouts were one off his career high, is the 13th MLB pitcher to strike out Ohtani three times in a game. Justin Verlander and Justus Sheffield have done it twice. Up next Ohtani (0-0, 1.50 ERA) is expected to go four innings Wednesday in his seventh start of the season for the Dodgers. RHP Nick Martinez (9-9, 4.69 ERA) gets the call for Cincinnati. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Bengals star Trey Hendrickson reportedly set to end holdout, report to camp amid contract disputeNew Foto - Bengals star Trey Hendrickson reportedly set to end holdout, report to camp amid contract dispute

Trey Hendrickson's holdout may be over, but there's still no deal in sight for the Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher. Hendrickson is set to end his holdout, the last of its kind across the league, and report to Bengals training camp Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Hendrickson and the Bengals, however, are apparently no closer to reaching a new contract than they were during the holdout. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Hendrickson is under contract with the Bengals this fall, but it's the final year of his current deal. He is set to make nearly $16 million this season, and will become a free agent next summer. The 30-year-old, though, has been angling for a new deal the entire offseason, andhe made good on his threat to skip the start of camp because of it. The 30-year-old led the league with 17.5 sacks last season, which marked his second straight campaign with that figure. He had a career-high 46 total tackles and picked up his fourth straight Pro Bowl nod. It's unclear where negotiations are at between Hendrickson and the Bengals, thoughhe said earlier this monththat the team's initial offer was "atrociously, atrociously low." He's reportedly also seeking multiple years of guaranteed money, which appears to be another sticking point in the negotiations. By comparison, Steelers pass rusherT.J. Watt reached a three-year, $123 million extension this offseason, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Meanwhile, Raiders starMaxx Crosby reached a three-year, $106.5 million extension. Though Bengals owner Mike Brownseemed optimisticthat a deal would "get done" at the start of training camp, the team's director of player personneldidn't seem too confidentthat it would happen before their season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7. Hendrickson has undoubtedly established himself as one of the best defensive ends in the league in recent seasons. While he may not break the record Watt set, he clearly wants his next deal to be in that range. Whether his decision to rejoin the team and end his holdout is enough to jumpstart those negotiations and get him to that place, however, remains to be seen.
