NBA Finals odds: 1 bettor wagered $8 million (!) on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the titleNew Foto - NBA Finals odds: 1 bettor wagered $8 million (!) on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the title

The Oklahoma City Thunder finished off the Indiana Pacers103-91 in Game 7 on Sunday night, winning the first championship in OKC franchise history and covering as 6.5-point home favorites. While it was an exciting game for fans to watch, one bettor was likely on the edge of his seat throughout. And it wasn't even theBetMGMbettor in Nevada who hadwagered $1.05 million on the Thunderat -700 odds to win $150,000. BetMGM reported on X on Monday afternoonthat one bettor in Ohio wagered a staggering $8 million on the Thunder to win the NBA Finals at -700 odds on June 5, the night of Game 1. The $8 million wager is one of the largest in legal U.S. sports betting history. Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale had a $3 million wager on the Houston Astros to win the World Series at 10-1 odds back in 2022, which cashed when the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. The OKC wager was a larger initial stake, but the bet won "just" $1,142,857.15 after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Co. pulled away late to defeat the Pacers. Oklahoma City opened as a +240 favorite to win the 2025-26 NBA title atBetMGM, the shortest preseason odds for any team since the 2018-19 Golden State Warriors — a team that was an odds-on favorite (-168) to win the championship, according to Sports Odds History. That Warriors team ended up making its fifth consecutive NBA Finals that season, but lost to the Toronto Raptors after both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson were injured in the postseason. The Cleveland Cavaliers (+700) and New York Knicks (+700) have the next-best odds — and best odds in the Eastern Conference — while the Houston Rockets (+800) have the best odds of any other Western Conference team outside the Thunder. With the Thunder looking like long-term contenders, this likely won't be the last massive wager on them.

In the meantime, the Athletics will play games at Sacramento's Sutter Health Park, the home of the Sacramento River Cats, a minor-league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Sutter Health Park has a capacity ofroughly 14,000 people, per CBS News. The Athletics' new park in Las Vegas is expected to seat roughly 33,000 fans. The cost of the new park is estimated at $1.75 billion. The team's move is not without controversy. After struggling to settle on a new stadium site near Oakland, Fisher received approval from MLB and Manfred to relocate in 2021. Two years later, theteam purchased landin Las Vegas, with the intent to move the team to the city. The move receivedunanimous approvalfrom MLB owners during the 2023-24 MLB offseason. During the 2023 season, Oakland fans staged areverse boycottat the ballpark. In an attempt to prove fans were not the problem, Oakland supporters showed up in droves to protest Fisher's attempt to sell the team. Fans wore green T-shirts with the word "SELL" in capital letters and chanted "sell the team" to Fisher. The protests received massive attention but did not stop Fisher from moving the team. In anticipation of the team's move to Las Vegas, the Athletics were more active than normal in free agency, inking pitcher Luis Severino to a deal that could total $67 million, the largest ever handed out by the team in free agency.

D. Wayne Lukas, 89, who has been a staple in horse racing since 1968 when he was training quarter horses at Los Alamitos, is leaving the game after contracting a potentially life-ending illness. In a note to owners and friends on Sunday, Lukas Enterprises announced: "We regret to inform you that D. Wayne Lukas will not be returning to racing. A severe MRSA blood infection has caused significant damage to his heart, digestive system, and worsened pre-existing chronic conditions. The doctors proposed an aggressive treatment plan, involving multiple surgeries and procedures over several months. Even with the best-case scenario, Wayne would require 24/7 assistance to manage daily activities." The note goes on to say that Lukas declined the aggressive treatment plan and would "return home to spend his remaining time with his wife, Laurie, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren." It also says that he will be under home hospice care. Read more:Commentary: Irascible D. Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton tore his right Achilles in Sunday's Game 7, ESPN's Shams Charaniaconfirmedon Monday. The 25-year-old Haliburtonsustained the injury in the first quarter of Game 7 of the NBA Finalsvs. the Oklahoma City Thunder. Haliburton — who was playing through a calf injury — fell to the floor after trying to push off his right leg and drive to the basket. He pounded his hand on the ground and yelled in pain while on the floor. Tyrese Haliburton went down with an injury in Game 7.pic.twitter.com/AZ1uk65dFg — ESPN (@espn)June 23, 2025 The Pacers' star was unable to put any weight on his injured leg as he was being helped off the court. Haliburton was off to a strong start in the contest, hitting three shots from beyond the arc before sustaining the injury. Haliburton's nine points had Indiana in the contest in the early going. It was 16-16 when he left the game. The Pacers went on tolose the game 103-91. It was the same leg in which Haliburton sustained a calf injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Haliburton played through the injury in Game 5 but went 0-for-6 from the field, finishing with zero points inthe Pacers' loss. He underwent an MRI following the contest. While the injury was supposed to keep Haliburton sidelined for weeks, hevowed to continue playingin the Finals. Haliburton was available for Game 6 and had no minutes restriction. He played 22 minutes in the game, finishing with 14 points and leading the Pacers toa 108-91 winto force Game 7. He lasted just over seven minutes into Game 7 before the injury. The Pacers quickly ruled Haliburton out for the rest of the game due to a right "lower-leg injury." Later in the contest, Haliburton's father, John, told ESPN his son was dealing with an Achilles injury. The Pacers initially seemed unfazed by the injury and managed to hold a one-point lead at halftime. But the Thunder's defense got its act together in the third quarter, taking advantage of the Pacers' turnovers to outscore Indiana by 14 points in the frame. That third-quarter outburst by Oklahoma City essentially put the game out of reach for the Pacers. The injury puts a damper on the Pacers' future. While Haliburton showed promise early in his career with the Sacramento Kings, he blossomed into a superstar with the Pacers. In four seasons with the team, he averaged 19.5 points and 10.1 assists. Haliburton was arguably playing the best basketball of his career prior to the calf injury. He hit multiple game-tying orgame-winning shotsin the final seconds of games to keep the Pacers' hopes alive during the postseason. Indiana would not have advanced as far as it did without Haliburton's heroics. With Haliburton expected to miss most if not all of next season, it will fall on Pascal Siakam and Bennedict Mathurin to keep the team afloat until Haliburton can return. Despite Haliburton's injury, the Pacers still have thesixth-best oddsto win the NBA championship next season.

Anew documentary on Barbara Waltersgives fans a closer look into the iconic news broadcast journalist's life, including a somewhat steamy moment withClint Eastwoodthat caused her to stumble over her words. Walters interviewed Eastwood in 1982 at his California ranch, and he spoke about how he was reluctant to ever share his feelings with anyone, including those he was romantically involved with. "You would drive me nuts, and I would drive you crazy because I would be saying, 'But didn't you? Or haven't you?'" Walters candidly toldThe Good, the Bad and the Uglystar. Eastwood was quick with his reply and said with a sly grin, "Well, we could try it and see if it worked out." The moment shook Walters' always-professional demeanor and seemingly flustered her as she said, "We'll start with this interview and if this is OK, we'll say, 'Well, maybe we'll do another interview… and…" The Viewhost had to take a moment to pause before she gathered herself and added, "I think we'll stop and reload," before everyone began laughing at the unintentionally hilarious moment. Years later in 2014, Walters revealed that Eastwood had actuallyasked her out on a dateafter their interview but she turned him down because she had work obligations. "This is a sad love story," Walters toldJimmy Fallonduring an appearance onThe Tonight Show. "I did this interview with Clint Eastwood something like 30 years ago. The reality star — who had been sharing her ongoing struggle withmelanomaafter undergoing 17 surgeries for theinvasive skin cancer— confirmed in April that her cancer had progressed to stage 4, having metastasized to herbrain and lungs. She needed immunotherapy, radiation and surgery totreat the tumors. Teddi Mellencamp/Instagram The treatments left her with patchy bald spots, leaving some of her followers to ask why she didn'tshave her "whole head." She explained on Instagram, "During radiation I lost big patches of hair; those spots aren't growing hair yet. This is what it looks like when the other hair grows out. So I shave these parts that grow every couple of weeks. I can't do it every day 🤣." As she shared in her new update, "Cancer comes with so many emotions: anger, sadness, loneliness. And while I feel grateful that immunotherapy is saving my life, I feel like I live in a fog, and I can't help but beat myself up on all of the ways I am falling short. I just desperately want to be back to my usual self." She continued. "So this little bit of hair growth, this change from May 12th (second slide) to today, June 16th, made me smile. Pac-12 in talks with Texas State over membership after extension of CBS Sports media deal: SourcesNew Foto - Pac-12 in talks with Texas State over membership after extension of CBS Sports media deal: Sources

The new Pac-12 has found its primary media partner. Now, it's time to finalize the next member school. The league is extending its deal with CBS Sports through the 2030-31 season as the anchor media platform of the new conference, paving the way for the next phase of the Pac-12's rebirth: expansion. Conference officials have engaged in conversations with executives at Texas State, sources tell Yahoo Sports, as the two parties work toward a membership agreement that would start in the fall of 2026. While no deal is finalized, this months-long courtship is expected to reach a crescendo this week, when the formal extension of an invitation may be made. The addition of Texas State, a Sun Belt school located in San Marcos, Texas, would give the Pac-12 a necessary eighth full, football-playing member — a requirement by the NCAA of all FBS leagues. The expansion would be the latest move of a phased-in rebuilding of a conference that, in 2023, was left with just Washington State and Oregon State. The Pac-12 added five programs from the Mountain West (San Diego State, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Utah State) and added basketball power Gonzaga as well before entering negotiations this spring with multiple media partners for a new television deal. CBS will anchor the league's multi-platform media package with as many as four partners expected at a later date. The total value of that package remains unclear, though the final annual per-school figure is expected to fall toward the lower range of a projection that the conference showed expansion targets last year ($8-15 million). Texas State's potential departure from the Sun Belt — if a deal is reached — is expected to set off a chain of realignment moves within the Group of Six conferences. Officials in the Sun Belt, in fact, have already held internal discussion over potential expansion targets in Conference USA, most notably Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky, according to those familiar with the talks. Time is of the essence for any of these conference moves. Most programs must give their current conference at least 12 months of notice before any planned exit or risk a larger exit fee. For instance, Texas State's Sun Belt exit fee is $5 million if the school gives the conference notice before July 1 that it is leaving in July of 2026. That figure doubles in seven days. The exit fee for Conference USA programs is expected to be in the $5-7 million range, as it includes two years worth of withheld revenue distribution and a penalty for breaking the league's grant-of-rights agreement. There is a $5 million entry fee into the Sun Belt — a figure that could be negotiated down at the discretion of the league's board of presidents. If Texas State is offered a Pac-12 invitation at a full distribution, the school is expected to accept. For Texas State, the move would be a dramatic increase in conference revenue to its coffers, more than doubling the Sun Belt's payout at a time when schools are clawing for any new financial help as the industry enters the age of athlete revenue sharing. The Bobcats, 12-year members of the Sun Belt after starting the transition from FCS in 2011, have a history of football success at the lower levels. They won Division II national titles in 1981-82 and advanced to the FCS semifinals in 2005. The move would give the Pac-12 a foothold in the country's second-most populous state. The new Pac-12 has two schools in the most populous state, California. Whether the Pac-12 would extend an invitation to any other program remains unclear. Last year, the league offered term sheets to at least three schools in the American, all of whom rebuffed the offer: Memphis, Tulane and South Florida. Exiting the American comes with a penalty of as much as $20 million. Poaching other Mountain West programs, such as UNLV, is a high hurdle, too. Members of the remade Mountain West agreed to a binding grant of rights. To replace those departing to the Pac-12, the league added Hawaii, UTEP, Grand Canyon, Northern Illinois in football and UC Davis in all sports except football. The Mountain West and Pac-12, considered for years as western sister conferences, are mired in a legal dispute over exit and penalty fees over the departure of the five schools to the Pac-12. The two conferences held mediation several weeks ago. Those negotiations continue over more than $150 million in exit and penalty fees that the Mountain West believes the Pac-12 and its new five members owe. The Pac-12, being remade under the leadership of commissioner Teresa Gould, holds an interesting place in the college sports hierarchy. While the conference lost its autonomous status as a power league within both the NCAA and College Football Playoff governing structures, the conference remains involved in landmark changes within college sports related to the House antitrust settlement. The Pac-12, as well as the NCAA, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and ACC, are named defendants in the lawsuit that is ushering into the industry revenue sharing with athletes. League administrators, in fact, are scheduled to visit lawmakers this week in Washington, D.C., as industry executives continue lobbying for a federal college sports bill. The Pac-12's deal with CBS extends a one-year agreement struck earlier this year for the network to televise two football games: the Apple Cup on Sept. 20 and the first of two matchups between Washington State and Oregon State on Nov. 1. As part of the CBS package, the network will broadcast the league's football championship game and men's basketball tournament championship game, as well as at least three regular-season football and men's basketball games on CBS and Paramount+. More regular-season games are expected on CBS Sports Network. Full details of the agreement are not being disclosed as the league is still in the market to finalize media rights deals for more football, basketball and Olympic sports broadcasts with other partners. The conference is using Octagon as an adviser as it seeks more media agreements.

The NBA offseason is officially here. It's been going on for some time, actuallyNew Foto - The NBA offseason is officially here. It's been going on for some time, actually

Kevin Durant already has been tradedto Houston. The New York Knicksare looking for a coach.Cooper Flaggis about to become the No. 1 pick in the draft.Expansion planslikely will take a big step forward in a few weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers just got sold. The NBA offseason officially has started. In reality, it's been going for a few weeks already. There's a parade in Oklahoma City on Tuesday to celebrate thenewly crowned champion Thunder, and in every other NBA city there's going a parade of movement — some of which already has started — over the coming weeks to try to catch the champs. "These are difficult equations," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said as the Warriors were starting their summer more than a month ago. "You look around the league, and you see some teams that have mortgaged their future, and they're in some trouble. There are other teams that have done so, and they're championship contenders." Outside of Oklahoma City — where virtually the entire rotation is expected to be back, led by MVP, Finals MVP, scoring champion and NBA championShai Gilgeous-Alexander, who just put together one of the best individual seasons of all time — there are plenty of questions everywhere. Among them: — Will the Spurs getVictor Wembanyamaback at full strength after he missed the last two months of the regular season with deep vein thrombosis in one of his shoulders? (The answer is believed to be yes.) — How will Boston, Milwaukee and Eastern Conference champion Indiana fare now that Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard andTyrese Haliburtonare set to miss most, if not all of, next season with Achilles tendon injuries? (The answer is probably not great.) — Who will New York get to replace the fired Tom Thibodeau? (The answer is anyone's guess, especially after multiple teams refused to let their under-contract coaches interview for that gig.) The injury situations for the Celtics, Bucks and Pacers certainly have teams thinking that the East could be more of a wide-open race in 2025-26. Orlando made a big move earlier this month, landingDesmond Bane from Memphisto play with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. And the Magic made that move knowing it would take them into the luxury tax, but that's the price they're willing to pay to try to win now. "We put our foot on the gas here," Magic president Jeff Weltman said. "So, as I've always said, that train is coming for everybody. We probably skipped a station here and I hope that our team is good enough to merit where the finances will take us." Houston finished 16 games behind Oklahoma City in the Western Conference and still got the No. 2 seed for the playoffs. The Rockets are hoping to close that gap now that they've added one of the greatest scorers in league history in Durant — who was the subject of trade talks for some time. "Being part of the Houston Rockets, I'm looking forward to it," Durant said in an interview with Fanatics at Fanatics Fest, where he was on stage for a scheduled discussion when the news broke Sunday. "Crazy, crazy couple of weeks, but I'm glad it's over with." The Durant trade was probably the biggest in the NBA since the Lakers landed Luka Doncic earlier this year. The team that traded Doncic was the Dallas Mavericks;they went on to win the draft lotteryand the right to land Flagg, the one-and-done star out of Duke. Flagg will be the No. 1 pick on Wednesday night, just like LeBron James was 22 years ago. James has a decision to make on his player option for next season with the Lakers in the coming days, though all signs point to him returning and becoming the first 23-season player in NBA history. "At this point of my career, you think about when the end is. That's human nature,"James told The Associated Presslast week in an interview promoting his partnership with Amazon. "You think: Is it this year? Or next year? Those thoughts always creep into your mind at this point of the journey. But I have not given it a specific timetable, date. I'm seeing how my body and family reacts, too." The Lakers struck a deal last week for Mark Walter to become the majority owner, a move that would end a 46-year run of team control by the Buss family. There are sales pending for the Minnesota Timberwolves (which is expected to be done in the next few days, with Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez set to finally close on that agreement) and the Celtics as well. There likely will be discussions on both at the board of governors meeting in Las Vegas next month, and that's also where the NBA is expected to officially open a process of exploring possible expansion. "It will be on the agenda to take the temperature of the room," Commissioner Adam Silver said. "We have committees that are already talking about it. But my sense is at that meeting, they're going to give direction to me and my colleagues at the league office that we should continue to explore it." Free agency starts in earnest on June 30, summer leagues in Utah and California open a few days later and then the every-team-goes NBA Summer League in Las Vegas — where Flagg likely will debut as a Mavericks player — opens July 10.
