Police claimed that Miller was holding a "brown, vegetable material" during a traffic stop, according toTMZ. However, the following month, the charges were dismissed, and a judge instead issued two disorderly conduct citations. In March 2022, Miller made headlines when they werearrested and charged with disorderly conductand harassment for two separate incidents in Hawaii. At the time, Hawaii Police alleged that Miller got "agitated" by people singing karaoke at a bar and "began yelling obscenities" at the people before getting onstage and grabbing the microphone. At another point, Miller allegedly "lunged" at a man playing darts. Millerpleaded no contestto the disorderly conduct charge and was ordered to pay a $500 fine. In addition to the disorderly conduct charge, they were also facing a harassment charge and a traffic-obstruction-related complaint, but a Hawaii judge dismissed both counts. Miller's controversies continued escalating in April 2022 when they werearrested and charged with second-degree assaultfor allegedly assaulting a woman at a party in Puna, Hawaii. "During the course of their investigation, police determined that the individual, later identified as Ezra Miller, became irate after being asked to leave and reportedly threw a chair, striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut," the Hawaii Police Department shared in anews releaseat the time. It is unclear how this case was resolved. A few months later, in August 2022, Miller was accused ofburglarizing a home in Vermontandstealing "several bottles of alcohol,"per the Vermont State Police. Miller was subsequently charged "with the offense of felony burglary into an unoccupied dwelling." In October, theypleaded not guiltyto one "felony count of burglary into an occupied dwelling" and a second "minor charge of petit larceny." However, by January 2023, Miller changed their plea andpleaded guilty to a lesser chargeof misdemeanor unlawful trespass. Meanwhile, the felony burglary and petit larceny charges were both dismissed without prejudice. Miller was sentenced to one year's probation, which included seeking mental health treatment and random alcohol screenings. In April 2020, Miller was seen appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Iceland in a social media video. Sources later toldVarietythat the incident was "a serious altercation at the bar." Two years later, the woman in the video toldVarietythat Miller "got super mad" after her friend told a "joke" about Miller not wanting to fight. At the time, reps and lawyers for Miller didn't respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. In 2022, Millergot a restraining order filed against themby two people alleging that Miller harassed and threatened them. In the court document, obtained by PEOPLE, the residents claimed that Miller "burst into the bedroom of the petitioner(s) and threatened" the alleged male victim by "saying 'I will bury you and your slut wife.' " However, the couple laterdismissed the requesttwo weeks after filing. By June of 2022, another couple accused Miller ofgrooming their child, Tokata Iron Eyes, who uses she/they pronouns and goes by Gibson. Miller and Gibson allegedly met at Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota in 2016, but her parents claimed that Miller was manipulating and controlling her since she was 12 years old. The parents alleged that Miller exhibited a "pattern of corrupting a minor" and allegedly displayed "cult-like and psychologically manipulative, controlling behavior." Gibson laterissued a statementand claimed that Miller "has only provided loving support and invaluable protection." In 2024, the parentswithdrew the complaint. Shortly afterwards, a mother and her 12-year-old daughter from Massachusetts weregranted a temporary harassment prevention orderagainst Miller after they claimed that the actor "menaced their family one evening in their downstairs neighbor's home and acted inappropriately toward" the minor. "I'm making a vampire movie," Ramsay told the publication. "I can't tell you much. It's with Ezra Miller who was inKevin. He's the main character. That's in development." Meanwhile, Miller told Italian publicationLo Speciale Giornalethat they'd be returning to Hollywood "on tentative grounds" by working with Ramsay, whom they called "one of the greatest living filmmakers." "I'm working with her again, that will likely be the first thing I do. It's a film that her and I are writing together," they said. "And I came to Cannes because she asked me to come, and if there's anything I really still believe in in my life, it's devotion to one's people, one's loved ones ... above all else." Miller added, "I didn't necessarily want to go to Cannes, I had a bit of a hard time. That's a tough reentry point. If you've been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes. But yeah, I did that for Lynne. I would do anything for Lynne." When you work in this industry, you'll find yourself in deep, deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f--- about you, or your well-being, at all," they explained. "And so, not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did, and for a lot of things that happened in that time, I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss."
