Wimbledon: Grigor Dimitrov forced into heartbreaking injury retirement while holding 2-set lead over No. 1 seed Jannik SinnerNew Foto - Wimbledon: Grigor Dimitrov forced into heartbreaking injury retirement while holding 2-set lead over No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner

Grigor Dimitrov was in full control on Monday with a chance for one of the biggest upsets at Wimbledon. But an apparent pectoral injury ended his day early, and he was forced to retire while holding a two-set lead over No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner. Sinner advances to the quarterfinals after appearing to be on the verge of falling victim to a stunning Round of 16 upset. Dimitrov held a 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 lead at the time of his injury. Dimitrov, seeded 19th, retires from a Grand Slam match for a fifth straight time. He'd previously retired from Wimbledon and the US Open in 2024 and the Australian Open and French Open this year. Dimitrov sustained the injury while serving. He immediately fell to the ground in pain and clutched his right pec with his left hand. As trainers rushed to the court to tend to him, Dimitrov laughed, apparently aware of the gravity of his injury. Moments later, he returned to the court to shake Sinner's hand, having concluded that he could not continue to play. An appreciative Centre Court crowd gave Dimitrov a rousing ovation as he packed up his bag. The win denied Dimitrov his deepest run at Wimbledon since he advanced to the semifinals in 2014. Sinner advances to stay alive for a fourth Grand Slam victory since the 2024 Australian Open. Sinner won the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025 and secured the US Open title last fall. Sinner faced his first challenge at Wimbledon against Dimitrov following a sensational start through the first three rounds. Fresh off a run to the French Open final, Sinner cruised through the first three rounds via runaway wins by scores of (6-4, 6-3, 6-0), (6-1, 6-1, 6-3) and (6-3, 6-1, 6-1). But Dimitrov put Sinner to the test immediately by breaking his first serve of the match. Dimitrov didn't lose a service game en route to a 6-3 first-set win. Dimitrov then took immediate control of the second set by breaking Sinner's first serve again. Sinner rallied for his first break of the match to temporarily fend off a 2-0 deficit and tie the set at 5-5. But Dimitrov broke Sinner's ensuing serve, then held serve to secure the 7-5 victory and the 2-0 set lead in the match. Spelling further trouble for Sinner was a medical break during the second set. Sinner fell awkwardly on his right arm and received treatment on his elbow during the break before returning to play. Sinner was able to keep playing and broke Dimitrov's serve after the medical timeout. He told reporters after the match thathe would have an MRI on his elbow on Tuesdayto determine the nature of any injury. Sinner is scheduled to play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Sinner and Dimitrov each held serve in the third set en route to a 2-2 tie before Dimitrov suffered his tournament-ending injury. His retirement marked the latest injury setback for Dimitrov in a career filled with them. Dimitrov most recently retired from the first round of the French Open with a thigh injury while holding a 6-2, 6-3, 2-6 lead over American Ethan Quinn. Heretired from Wimbledon in the fourth round in 2024with an abductor tear. He trailed Daniil Medvedev, 5-3, in the first set at the time of that injury. In between, Dimitrov was forced to retire from the 2024 US Open and 2025 Australian Open. After the conclusion of the match, Sinner addressed the Centre Court crowd and Dimitrov's poor injury fortune. "I don't take this as a win at all."Jannik Sinner was full of respect for his friend Grigor Dimitrov after he was forced to retire.#Wimbledonpic.twitter.com/bQTsxUM8Mu — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon)July 7, 2025 "I don't know what to say," Sinner said. "He is an incredible player, I think we all saw this today. He's been so unlucky in the past couple of years. "An incredible player, good friend of mine also. ... Seeing him in this position, it's — honestly. If there would be a chance that he could play in the next round, he would deserve — but now, mostly, I hope he has a speedy recovery. "Very, very unlucky from his side. I don't take this as a win at all. This is just a very unfortunate moment to witness for all of us." Sinner advances to face No. 10 seed Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals in search of his first Wimbledon championship.Shelton secured a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (1), 7-5 winover unseeded Lorenzo Sonego earlier Monday. For Dimitrov, the retirement marks another in a Grand Slam career filled with them as he continues to seek the first Grand Slam final of his career.

Chávez Jr. misses court for case unrelated to ICE arrest, lawyer says status unknownNew Foto - Chávez Jr. misses court for case unrelated to ICE arrest, lawyer says status unknown

VAN NUYS, Calif. — An attorney for boxer Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. said Monday he does not know whether his client is still in the United States afterhe was arrested by ICE last week. Chávez Jr. was scheduled to appear in court Monday to seek early release from a pretrial diversion program stemming from gun charges in January 2024. But Chávez Jr. did not appear at the Los Angeles Superior Court Northwest Division and his attorney, Michael Goldstein, said he did not know his client's location. Goldstein said that two days ago he learned Chávez Jr. was in Hidalgo, Texas in the custody of DHS. When asked Monday if Chávez Jr. is still in the United States, Goldstein told USA TODAY Sports: "We have no idea. We have no information. Unfortunately." Chávez Jr., 39, was arrested July 2 outside of his home in Studio City, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, according to DHS. ICE then detained the former world champion boxer and began the process for expedited removal to Mexico, DHS said in its initial statement. USA TODAY Sports reached out to DHS for an update to Chávez Jr.'s status and was directed to itsJuly 3 press release. The arrest took place just days after Chávez Jr., a former world champion, fought celebrity boxer Jake Paul in Anaheim, California. Chávez Jr., the son of legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chávez Sr.,lost a 10-round bout to Paul by unanimous decision. DHS said Chávez Jr. faces an arrest warrant in Mexico for hisalleged ties to Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel. In August 2023, Chávez Jr. entered the country legally with a B2 tourist visa that was valid until February 2024. In its press release, DHS stated former PresidentJoe Biden's administration allowed Chávez Jr. to reenter the country in January and paroled him into the country at the San Ysidro port of entry in California. The Trump administration has launched a far-reaching crackdown on immigration in an effort to fulfill the president's campaign promise to deport millions of people in the country illegally. Mexico's top prosecutor on July 6 said U.S. authorities have known since at least 2023 that Chávez Jr. was wanted in Mexico on charges related to his alleged ties to the Sinaloa drug cartel, according to anEFE news service report. Chávez Jr. "entered the United States with the knowledge of American authorities, with a tourist visa that they accepted," Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero told EFE. "They knew perfectly well that there was an arrest warrant." Attorneys for Chávez Jr. in Mexico have asked for an "amparo," or an injunction, preventing his arrest in Mexico once he is deported, Manero said. It wasn't immediately clear whether Chávez Jr. would face deportation or formal extradition to Mexican authorities. Days after his arrest by ICE agents, Chávez Jr. still couldn't be found in the agency'sonline detainee locatoron July 7. It can take days or more than a week for ICE detainees to turn up in the locator as they await processing. Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said she wants Chávez Jr. to face justice in Mexico, where he has been under investigation since 2019 and where he faces charges related to weapons and drug trafficking. "The hope is that he will be deported and serve the sentence in Mexico," Sheinbaum said duringher daily news conferenceon Friday, July 4. After Chávez Jr.'s January 2024 arrest in Los Angeles on gun charges, the court granted Chávez pretrial diversion, which allows people charged with a crime to enter rehabilitative programs rather than face prosecution. Goldstein said Chávez Jr. had begun the program five months earlier on his own accord. But with Chavez not in court Monday, assistant supervising judge Neetu S. Badhan-Smith set a new hearing for Aug. 21. "Please make your hearings," Badhan-Smith said, although she also referred to the active arrest Chávez Jr. faces in Mexico. Goldstein, when asked what his plan is, replied, "Come back on the 21st and we deal with it then. We get more information." Mark Giannotto contributed to this story. Where does Cal Raleigh's 35 home runs stack up all-time at the All-Star Break?New Foto - Where does Cal Raleigh's 35 home runs stack up all-time at the All-Star Break?

Seattle's switch-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh leads Major League Baseball with 35 home runs through July 6. That would be an astounding accomplishment over a full season, but Raleigh has been able to hit that many in just half a season. Outside of the steroid era, such an impressive power feat is practically unheard of, especially from a catcher. We haven't even reached the All-Star break, and Raleigh is 13 home runs away from the all-time record by a catcher over a full season. Salvador Perez had 48 in 2021. Who holds the record for the most home runs at the All-Star break and can Raleigh top that before the break starts on July 14? MLB News:Deserving All-Star starters over past full season's stats As is the case with most home run records, this record is held by Barry Bonds, who hit 39 homers before the 2001 All-Star break. Raleigh's 35 ties him for fifth all-time alongside 2001 Luis Gonzalez and fellow Mariners legend 1998 Ken Griffey Jr. Raleigh already holds the record for catchers, having surpassed the previous high of 28 set by Johnny Bench in 1970, on June 20 against theChicago Cubs. This year, Raleigh also became the first switch-hitter to reach 30 home runs before the All-Star break. It will be difficult. The Mariners have just six games left before the break − all on the road - against theNew York Yankeesand theDetroit Tigers. In 2025, the Yankees and Tigers rank in the top half of MLB in HR/9 allowed (Yankees: 13th, 1.08; Tigers: 9th, 1.02). But Raleigh has been a much better hitter on the road this year. Despite having played two fewer games on the road thus far, he has 18 home runs away from home compared to 17 at Comerica Park. His batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage are all higher on the road as well. Additionally, Raleigh has several stretches of at least five home runs in six games. So far in 2025, the most home runs he has hit in a six-game span is nine from April 11 to April 17. More recently, Raleigh hit five home runs in four games between June 20 and June 23. He has been on a cold streak lately, hitting only three homers in his last 12 games. MLB News:Mets slugger Pete Alonso won't take part in 2025 Home Run Derby The full season record is 73 by Bonds in 2001. The American League record is 62, set by Aaron Judge in 2022. Raleigh is currently on pace for 63 home runs. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:Where does Cal Raleigh stand for all-time home runs at All-Star break?

Tour de France sprint favorite Jasper Philipsen out of race after crashing on stage threeNew Foto - Tour de France sprint favorite Jasper Philipsen out of race after crashing on stage three

Sprinter Jasper Philipsen, of Alpecin-Deceuninck, crashed out of the Tour de France Monday just two days after taking the yellow jersey for the first time in his career. The Belgian powerhouse slammed to the ground in the intermediate sprint with just under 37 miles remaining in stage three. Green jersey in tatters and back covered in angry red road burns, he struggled to stand and could be seen gingerly bending his right arm. He was taken away on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace. Soudal–Quick-Step's Tim Merlier eked out a photo finish against Italian sprinter Jonathan Milan of Lidl–Trek to win the stage. According to a social media post by Alpecin-Deceuninck, a preliminary hospital diagnosis revealed a fractured collarbone and at least one broken rib. He willlikely require surgery, the team said. In an Instagram post shared after the race, Tour de France favorite Tadej Pogačar said he started the day happy but ended "super sad" to see Philipsen go down so hard. "You will come back in no time," Pogačar said. Philipsen's crash came on the heels of a near perfect start for Alpecin-Deceuninck. Philipsen took first place on opening day, winning both the yellow jersey and the stage. It was a dream come true for the sprinter, who had previously warned that stage one could be among the most dangerous racing days in this year's tour. "Beyond proud to make this dream a reality," he posted on social media Saturday afternoon. "The team did an amazing job today, and taking the stage win while bringing the yellow home is the best feeling there is." While Philipsen celebrated, crashes on day one forced two riders to abandon midrace. Italian time trial champion Filippo Ganna of Ineos Grenadiers was the first to crash out. The 6-foot-4 Olympic gold medalist initially got back on his bike after falling heavily on a right-hand curve, but appeared to be visibly struggling and soon developed concussion symptoms, his team said. Shortly after Ganna's incident, Stefan Bissegger of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale also crashed and abandoned with concussion symptoms. Philipsen, with a strong lead out from teammate Mathieu van der Poel, blasted to victory in the last 100 meters and took first for his 10th Tour stage win. On Sunday, it was Dutchman Van der Poel's turn to wear the yellow jersey after beating out defending champion Pogačar and two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard in a sprint to the finish line. He was still in the yellow on Monday when Phillipsen hit the ground. Speaking to reporters are stage three, Van der Poel said he was sad to see his friend abandon under such painful circumstances. "We had a pretty nice goal in winning the green jersey with him again," he said referring to the jersey awarded to the top sprinter. "It's not a happy day today." With Philipsen out, Australian cyclist Kaden Groves, who is riding his Tour debut, will likely step in as team leader, Van der Poel said.

Pacers confirm Tyrese Haliburton will not play next season due to torn Achilles: 'We would not jeopardize that'New Foto - Pacers confirm Tyrese Haliburton will not play next season due to torn Achilles: 'We would not jeopardize that'

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton hit some miraculous, last-second shots to carry his team all the way to the NBA Finals. But any hopes of the Pacers winning a championship were dashed the instant Haliburton went down with a torn Achilles in Game 7. Following that injury, the Pacers want Haliburton to take his time rehabbing. Team president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard confirmed Monday that Haliburton will miss the entire 2025-26 NBA season while dealing with the injury. Pritchard said the Pacers did not want to "jeopardize" further injury with Haliburton. #Pacerspresident of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard confirmed Tyrese Haliburton is out for the 2025-26 season."I have no doubt that he will be back better than ever... He will not play next year though. We would not jeopardize that now."pic.twitter.com/OiSy327pgw — WISH-TV News (@WISHNews8)July 7, 2025 The news shouldn't come as a surprise. Achilles injuries can take up to a full year to fully recover. While it's possible Haliburton could recover faster, the team will give him plenty of time to get right. Other athletes have come back from Achilles injuries in less time. Kirk Cousins was able to return after 11 months to start for the Atlanta Falcons last season. He struggled upon returning, however, throwing an NFL-leading 16 interceptions in just 14 games. The Pacers won't risk that outcome. Assuming the team sticks to its guns and keeps Haliburton out, he wouldn't return to action until the start of the 2026-27 NBA season. If he returned to the court then, it would mark a year and a half since he appeared in a regular-season game. The Pacers have plenty of incentive to make sure Haliburton's recovery goes well. The team signed Haliburton to afive-year, max extensionin 2023. That extension kicked in during the 2024-25 NBA season, meaning he's signed through the 2028-29 NBA season. Given the length of Haliburton's deal and his age (25), the Pacers have every incentive to make sure he's back at 100 percent the next time he steps on the court. The decision may hurt the Pacers next year, but the team is taking the cautious approach with its biggest star.

'Twilight' Heartthrob Shares the Real Story Behind His Character's Surprising Evolutionoriginally appeared onParade. As brooding vampire Jasper Hale in the blockbusterTwilightfilm series,Jackson Rathbonewon the hearts of countless fans who remain completely in love with the character years later...and many are still wondering about one of the traits that set Jasper apart from the other sparkly-skinned immortals in Forks, Washington. In a video shared to TikTok recently from a panel appearance, Rathbone, 40, responded to a fan's question about why Jasper's accent changed as the movies went on, becoming more Southern in the later installments. "I'm from a small town in west Texas," Rathbone explained, "and for the first film, they thought it would be too much, you know — we're teenagers hiding in the Pacific Northwest, so they just said, we'll do a Texas accent in the way that Rob sits down," he quipped before poking fun at the infamous wayRobert Pattinsonsat down inTwilight, resting his fingertips on a table as he lowered himself to a seated position. As Rathbone continued, it wasDavid Slade, the British director ofEclipse, who suggested that Jasper should have an accent. "We were having dinner and he said 'Jackson, your accent is amazing, why don't we put it in the film?'" Rathbone recalled, before his former co-starPeter Facinelli(who played Carlisle) interjected. "Jackson said, 'Your accent's actually amazing too,'" Facinelli added. "I said, 'Stop talking, I don't like your accent. My people threw your people's tea in the ocean. Get on outta here,'" Rathbone joked, adding, "But that's honestly why."
