ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Promising but far from perfect wasrookie first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart'sassessment of making his preseason debut at quarterback in the New York Giants' 34-25 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. "There's definitely moments where I feel like I did some good stuff, but I'm excited to look back on the tape and look at the things I can clean up," the 22-year-old said following an outing in which he led three scoring drives on four first-half possessions, which led to two field goals and a touchdown. "I just felt like the only reason that we stopped ourselves from scoring touchdowns were just some of those third downs and not converting," Dart added. "I feel like personally I'm really hard on myself so in those moments I want to capitalize on that." The outing, overall, provided the Giants an encouraging glimpse into not only their future, with Dart, but also their present with veteran Russell Wilson also making his playing debut. The 36-year-old Wilson —New York's anticipated season-opening starter— was efficient in running the Giants' quick-strike passing attack by going 6 of 7 for 28 yards in an opening drive ending with Graham Gano's 53-yard field goal. Dart — New York's starter in waiting — closed the half by displaying his arm strength and mobility. He finished 12 of 19 for 154 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey, while adding three carries for 24 yards. Coach Brian Daboll said very little surprised him about Dart's poise and decision-making because he's seen it already in practice. "That's about what I thought he would do. Efficient, effective, aggressive, confident in the pocket," Daboll said. "Some stuff we can work on, but he's doing good." The outcome was decided with the teams trading leads four times in the second half of their respective preseason openers. New York backup kicker Jude McAtamney scored the go-ahead points, hitting a 42-yard field goal with 7:13 remaining. Bills third stringer Mike White threw two second-half touchdown passes, including a 39-yarder on fourth-and-4 to K.J. Hamler. Giants third stringer Jameis Winston led three second-half possessions and went 7 of 11 for 62 yards, including a 7-yard completion to Gunner Olszewski. Tommy DeVito mopped up by going 10 of 14 for 73 yards and a 8-yard touchdown to Jonathan Ward. Otherwise the focus was on Dart's outing. His touchdown capped a seven-play, 80-yard drive with a perfectly placed pass to Humphrey, who brought in the contested ball in stride at the goal line, a step ahead of defender Dane Jackson. Dart showed off his running ability on a 19-yard scramble. And he played without fear on a run-pass-option call in which he faked a handoff to Devin Singletary, stepped aside to avoid oncoming rusher Michael Hoecht, before completing a pass to Greg Dulcich, who was tackled for no gain. "He's a confident young player," Daboll said. "He's improved since he's been here. Still got a long way to go, but I enjoy working with him." This is what the Giants were counting on in signing Wilson, now on his fourth team in 14 years, and trading three draft picks to move back into the first round to select Dart 25th overall. New York is starting from scratch at quarterback following a 3-14 record and an offense that finished 30th in the NFL in yards per play and 31st in averaging 10 points per outing. The five-time defending AFC East champion Bills, meantime, have no questions at quarterback in providing NFL MVP Josh Allen a day off. Primary backup Mitch Trubisky went 9 of 13 for 138 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown to Dawson Knox in playing the entire first half. His 58-yard completion to Tyrell Shaversset up newly signed kicker Caden Davis hitting a 24-yard field goal to close the first half. Buffalo signed Davis a day earlier with Tyler Bass sidelined by a pelvis injury. Running back Ray Davis also got involved in the kicking game by hitting the point-after attempt following Knox's score. "You know, you never know, right? I just feel like, what if it happens in a game?" Bills coach Sean McDermott said of giving his running back a chance to test his leg in a competitive setting. "Ray takes a lot of pride in things. In particular, playing running back, being a great teammate, and then in this case, kicking." Browns coach Kevin Stefanski won't commit to Shedeur Sanders' role next week after strong debutNew Foto - Browns coach Kevin Stefanski won't commit to Shedeur Sanders' role next week after strong debut

CLEVELAND (AP) — Less than 24 hours after Shedeur Sanders' impressive NFL debut, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski still wasn't ready to answer the question most on the mind of Cleveland fans. Will Sanders start working with the first-team offense leading into next Saturday's second preseason game at Philadelphia? "We need to get through the next couple of days from an injury standpoint and see where everybody is," Stefanski said Saturday. "I'm really focused on all of our quarterbacks' development and every single one of these reps last night, how important they are. So that's what I'm focused on more than anything." Sanders played nearly three quarters and had 45 snaps inFriday night's 30-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He directed three touchdown drives in 10 series (including a kneel down at the end of the first half) and completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two TD passes. The stat that pleased everyone the most though is that the Browns didn't have a turnover. Sanders is listed as the fourth-string QB and has not seen any snaps with the first string during the first three weeks of practices. He got the start and received extended playing time in the preseason opener because of Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel sidelined with hamstring injuries. Joe Flacco got most of the work during last Wednesday's joint workouts. However, Sanders made a strong case in showing he should get opportunities to see how he fares against starters. The Browns' next practice is Monday at their team facility. They travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday before joint workouts with the Eagles on Wednesday and Thursday. For his part, Sanders continues to stay patient with the process the Browns have set out for his development. It is the same mentality he has had since dropping to the fifth round and the 144th overall selection in April's draft. "I just don't think that deep into everything because there's nothing you're going to be able to control.," Sanders said when asked if he is being given a fair chance in the Browns four-way quarterback competition. "The most you can do is when you get your opportunity, when your number is called, perform, at least do the bare minimum and win the game. That's what I feel like we did today and definitely things I'm able to grow off of." In addition to seeing how he would fare in the red zone and a variety of third down scenarios, the coaching staff also got to see how Sanders would fare on a couple of series where the Browns started inside their 10 yard line. For the most part, Stefanski was able to run through a lot of different game situations. "You don't want to show much, but also you want to put your players in positions where you can evaluate them. We kind of did it all last night, including a jet sweep to Gage (Larvadain) for the touchdown," Stefanski said. "We want to win because they're keeping score but you also want to vary your run types, vary your pass types so you're learning more about each one of your players." According to the NFL's Next Gen stats, Sanders was pressured on 12 of his 27 drop-backs. He was 5 of 9 for 81 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Kaden Davis to put the Browns up 14-7 in the second quarter. Sanders was sacked twice, but also avoided trouble a couple of times on scrambles where it could have been a 15 to 20-yard loss. Many considered Sanders to be one of the most accurate quarterbacks in this year's draft class. He showed that off on a couple of plays Friday — the second touchdown pass to Davis and a 30-yard completion to Luke Floriea where he layered it over four Carolina defenders and Floriea made a one-handed grab near the sideline. "That next step is getting in the game settings and taking the practice field to the game. I thought that's what we saw by and large from Shedeur, that's what we saw by and large from our offense, was really taking those things that we're honing in on the practice field and then showing them in the games," Stefanski said. "While there's game plans that will be more complicated as you get going and certainly as you get to the season, we really want to put our guys in as many situations as possible, and I thought those guys handled it really well." In other news, Stefanski said Floriea has a hamstring injury and defensive back LaMareon James is in concussion protocol. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

PSG signs goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille amid uncertainty over Donnarumma's futureNew Foto - PSG signs goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille amid uncertainty over Donnarumma's future

PARIS (AP) — Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille on a five-year contract Saturday, amid increasing uncertainty over Gianluigi Donnarumma's future at the club. The transfer fee was not disclosed but French sports daily L'Équipe reported that PSG paid just over 40 million euros ($46.5 million) for the 23-year-old Chevalier, with the deal potentially rising to 55 million euros in case of future bonuses. Chevalier impressed for Lille in the Champions League last season. Hecaught the eyewith stellar performances against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, where he made one stunning save from Dušan Vlahović that even the Juve striker applauded. "I am a kid that is living his dream. Ever since I was small I wanted to play at the very highest level," Chevalier said. "I'm really delighted to be here. I will wear this shirt with passion and ambition." Chevalier came through Lille'sreputed youth academyand played 127 games for the northern club. Quick and agile, he is particularly strong coming off his line and has great anticipation, although he does not always look assured on crosses and corners. His arrival could signal Donnarumma's departure, with the 26-year-old Italy international unlikely to accept being No. 2 behind Chevalier if coach Luis Enrique decides so. Donnarumma was arguably the best goalkeeper in Europe last season, playing a key role in PSG's Champions League success with inspired shot-stopping in the knockout stages. But with one year left on his contract, he has so far refused to sign a new contract and PSG is unlikely to let him leave for free at the end of the season, having already experienced the same situation withKylian MbappĂ©. PSG is already well stocked with three backup goalkeepers:Matvei Safonov, Arnau Tenas, and 19-year-oldRenato Martin. Five goalies could prove problematic to manage so at least one, and probably two, will need to leave during the summer transfer window. Donnarumma was in a similar position to Chevalier when he joined the club after helping Italy win the European Championship in 2021. He replaced Keylor Navas as No. 1, even though Navas had been outstanding for PSG the previous season. Deion Sanders honors Bill Collins and his stand against an all-white Alabama teamNew Foto - Deion Sanders honors Bill Collins and his stand against an all-white Alabama team

Coloradofootball coachDeion Sanderstook some time out from hispreseason news conference Friday Aug. 8to honor a Black former Colorado player who made a courageous stand against an all-white Alabama team at the 1969 Liberty Bowl in Memphis. That player was Bill Collins, who died July 31 in Dallas after a long battle with cancer. He was 76. Collins played defensive tackle for the Buffaloes and was Colorado's first Black captain for a full season. But what he's best known for as a Buff is what he did before the Liberty Bowl at a time of heightened racial tension in the Deep South. "He represented the Buffs at the pregame coin toss alone, and Alabama, yet to integrate, sent more than 40 players to the coin toss to try to intimidate him," Sanders said. "And it didn't work. CU won, 47-33." The universityposted an obituary of Collinson Aug. 4 that described it as perhaps the "bravest moment in University of Colorado athletic history." PRESEASON PREVIEW:Deion Sanders addresses his health, Colorado quarterback competition: 'I'm loving life' Alabama had an all-white team back then and sent 40 white players to midfield for the pregame coin toss in Memphis, where civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. had been assassinated the previous year. The Buffs had seven Black players and a Black assistant coach. According to the obituary, Colorado's other two team captains, Bobby Anderson and Mike Pruett, both white, walked with Collins toward midfield for the pregame coin toss but stopped a few yards short to let Collins take the last few steps to midfield by himself. They were making a statement against the Crimson Tide. "Collins then approached the Tide horde solo to prove that he – and the Buffs – were not going to be intimidated by their racist, childish antics, starting with some Alabama fans spitting on the CU team as they took the field through a tunnel, and yelling the "N" word at the CU bench and sideline, which lasted all game long," the university obituary said. Collins won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff, as capturedon YouTube. Colorado won the game. Alabama didn't racially integrate its team until two years later, in 1971. Sanders was only 2 years old in 1969 but is linked to Collins not just as a Black coach at Colorado but also through a personal connection. He's good friends with gospel singer Kirk Franklin, whose wife Tammy is Collins' daughter. "This is her father, so it's a small world, small world," Sanders said. "She called and told me about that, and before he passed, she said I was on the TV or something, and he stopped and said `Turn it up.'" Sanders said he wants to honor Collins during a game this season, his third at Colorado. The Buffs open the season Aug. 29 at home against Georgia Tech. Collins graduated from Colorado with a business degree and went to work for Xerox. He was the first Black player chosen by his teammates to be a team captain for the entire season. Pete Davidson shares 'fatherly advice' he receives from fellow "SNL" alums Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy: 'Stay clean'

The comedian turns to both Murphy and fellowSNLalum Adam Sandler for advice. Davidson explains that Murphy and Sandler have both modeled how important it is to 'stay clean.' Pete Davidsonis getting by with a little help from his famous friends. TheSaturday Night Livealum tellsEntertainment Weeklyabout connecting withEddie Murphywhile shooting their new action-comedyThe Pickup. "We got along real fast, and we both have a lot in common," Davidson says, highlighting that they both lost their fathers before they were nine and both joinedSNLbefore they were 21. "We were always the young guy amongst a bunch of older dudes. We got along really, really, really well." Courtesy Amazon MGM Studios Davidson says that he was immediately struck by Murphy's star power. "You're very aware when Eddie Murphy's on set — even if you can't see him, you're like, 'I feel his presence,'" he explains, laughing. "He's one of the few stars left, you know? I would say it's him, Cruise, Costner — you know, it's all the older dudes. There's no real stars anymore." TheKing of Staten Islandstar says Murphy has become a mentor figure to him along the same lines as anotherSNLlegend, who he now considers a "pal,"Adam Sandler. "They say don't meet your heroes, but you could meet Adam and Eddie Murphy and you'll be happy," Davidson says. "I talk to Uncle Adam every week. He's just the best." Davidson elaborates on his constant communication with theHappy Gilmoreactor. "He calls, he gives me some advice, and we just love shooting the s---," he explains. "And he's a real fun, silly guy." TheBupkisstar says he can turn to both Sandler and Murphy for counsel. "Everything that I'm going through now, they went through," he explains. "So it's just really helpful to be able to talk to them. Anytime I can, I ask them for, you know, fatherly advice. Adam and Eddie have been killing for 30+ years. That's not normal, especially in comedy, to be at the top that long. And it's because they're great dudes, and they have a great regimen and a great team, and they're smart. So anything I could absorb from them, I do." For example, Davidson looks to Sandler when considering how to approach criticism. "I pick Adam's brain a lot, even for something like having a movie come out," he explains. "I'm like, 'What do you do when reviews come out?' And he's like, 'Don't. Don't read 'em. I haven't read a review in 25 years. Don't read 'em.'" Will Heath/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Gett Murphy, on the other hand, tells Davidson that he's on the right track. "Eddie was just like, 'You keep doing what you're doing, you're doing all right,'" he says. "And like, you know, 'Stay clean.' You know, Eddie never really got into the party sphere, and neither did Adam. And that's, I think, why they're soon it. You know, I had my little phase, and just seeing how they are and how quick and sharp and loved andon it— they're always grounded and doing well." Davidson, who has beensober since last year, clarifies that his mentors didn't explicitly tell him to stay away from the party scene. Still, it is wisdom they've passed down nonetheless. "They didn't necessarily outright speak to me like, 'Hey, don't do this,' but you know, in talking to them, I'm like, 'Oh yeah, their eyes are on work and family,'" he reflects. "And I think that's really important when this is their job. And they love being dads. They love family, they love hanging with their friends. And they kind of explain to me how to separate those two. Like, this is a job, but what really matters is your pals and your family." Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic Want more movie news? "I think it's Martin Scorsese's best movie and De Niro's best performance," Davidson says. "I don't know if it can be remade, but Eddie as Jerry Lewis and me as the De Niro character would be f---ing awesome." Davidson also says that he hopes to "pop in" during one of theBilly Madisonstar's upcoming standup shows, and says the two comedians have been seeking a project to work on together for a long time. RamĂrez appeared to have his 18th home run of the season, but Profar expertly tracked the fly ball. Yet Waldrep's line score would have looked worse if not for Profar scaling the wall and reaching over the fence to rob the Marlins of a home run. Interestingly, advanced metricshaven't provided a flattering portrayal of Profar's defense in left field this season. He's charged with -8 Defensive Runs Saved and -8 Outs Above Average in his 35 games (308 1/3 innings) at the position in 2025. Profar has played his most games defensively in left field with 534, followed by 219 games at second base and 104 at shortstop during a career in which his best asset has been his positional versatility. However, Waldrep and most Braves fans — and probably RamĂrez, as well — might take issue with that assessment after the display of athleticism he provided on Saturday. TheBraves went on to win, 7-1, with Waldrep allowing just one run in his second start of the season.

Rookie quarterbackShedeur Sandersmadean impressive preseason debutwith theCleveland Brownson Friday night, throwing two touchdown passes while completing 14-of-23 passes (61%) for 138 yards ina 30-10 winover theCarolina Panthers. For one week, at least, Sanders answered questions and critics, appearing to be capable of winning a spot on the Browns' QB depth chart — and perhaps more. With a strong performance now on the record, Sanders took an opportunity to confront one of his loudest local detractors, ESPN Cleveland radio hostTony Grossi. AndWell Off Media, the Sanders family social media channel, had cameras ready to record the conversation. Shedeur Sanders addresses Cleveland-based sports journalist and Browns analyst Tony Grossi, who's known for being critical and biased toward him."You always say negative stuff about me. I didn't do nothing to you. I've never seen you say anything positive about me."(🎥: Well…pic.twitter.com/SGpmmyXF74 — The Art Of Dialogue (@ArtOfDialogue_)August 9, 2025 "Tony, I hope you have something positive to say about me," Sanders said to Grossi following his postgame media availability. "You always say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, I didn't do nothing to you. I've never seen you say anything positive about me." Grossi's response wasn't audible on the Well Off Media clip, but it was apparently enough to draw a good-natured laugh from Sanders. Maybe Grossi admitted he was unfair. Perhaps he briefly explained that being an outspoken critic is part of the sports radio job description. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "What'd I do? What'd I do to you, Tony?" Sanders asked with a laugh as he walked away. "I thought Shedeur was outstanding," -@TonyGrossion Shedeur's performance 👀👀👀https://t.co/JHElvJryf3 — ESPN Cleveland (@ESPNCleveland)August 9, 2025 Sanders has been a target since his career at Colorado with garish statistics, boastful actions and significant NIL earnings. Some critics felt that he was the beneficiary of his father, Deion Sanders, being the head coach of the Buffaloes.Falling to the fifth roundof this year's NFL Draft (selected No. 144 overall) was viewed by many as comeuppance and a serving of humility after he believed he would be a first-round pick. So Grossi picking on Sanders after being drafted and throughout his development in OTAs, minicamps, training camp and the preseason shouldn't be a surprise. He derided Sanders as a "developmental quarterback." Among his dubious criticisms of Sanders, via Awful Announcing, was developing a sore arm during training camp and missing a practice. Yet Grossi acknowledged after Friday's performance that Sanders was "outstanding." Whether those remarks were made after Sanders asked for some positivity isn't clear. But it would have been difficult for the sports talk personality to maintain credibility if he hadn't confirmed what was apparent on the field, even if it was a preseason contest. Grossi has made a career — in print, radio and digital media — of scrutinizing the Browns, so he'll surely return with more criticism. The question now is whether or not Sanders will give him any ammunition from here on out.
