"Sex and the City" star Kristin Davis recalls production struggles during season 1: 'We didn't really have sets'

Paramount Pictures Kristin Davisopened up about the uncertainty ofSex and the City'sfuture after the first season. On arecent episodeofHey Dude... The 90s Called!,the actress said she recently learned that there were talks of possible cancellation after season 1. Davis added that HBO even went so far as to send in a producer fromThe Sopranosto save the production. "It was kind of, you know, from a production standpoint, like, an unwieldy show," she shared with cohosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher. "We were shooting really fast. We were shooting in so many locations in New York City, which is not easy, as we know. We didn't really have sets." The set building was minimal, with Davis recalling how her character Charlotte's space consisted of two white walls and a bed. However, the show was still expensive to shoot because they were filming on the streets of New York City, which is itself a character on the series. "That was the great part of it, but I guess they were stressing over there at HBO about it," Davis said. Luckily,Sex and the Citybecame a smash, running for six seasons on HBO. It was a cultural phenomenon that challenged old notions about women and sexuality. What's more, Sarah Jessica Parkerrecently rememberedhow New York City women even changed the way they walked and sat after the show premiered. Want more movie news? Paramount Pictures "We were talking about stuff that you don't normally talk about," Davis said. "It wasn't necessarily for men. It was more from the female perspective and the female gaze, but yet also there were a lot of salacious storylines obviously, especially first season." Sex and the Cityspawned a spinoff inAnd Just Like That, which premiered in 2021 and iscoming to an endon Aug. 14. Chad Michael Murray recalls losing 50% of his blood in a near-death experienceNew Foto - Chad Michael Murray recalls losing 50% of his blood in a near-death experience

In a recent and deeply personal interview on theGreat Companypodcast, actorChad Michael Murrayshared a terrifying, near-death experience he endured as a teenager. TheOne Tree Hillalum, now 43, recounted a medical crisis at the age of 15 that led to a two-and-a-half-month hospital stay, multiple surgeries, and the loss of a staggering 50% of his blood. Murray, who was a physically fit teenager at the time, revealed that his intestines had become twisted, causing severe internal bleeding. Because of his tight abdominal muscles, doctors initially struggled to diagnose the problem. This delayed diagnosis proved to be critical, as the actor's condition deteriorated rapidly. As he drifted in and out of consciousness, his family was faced with a devastating reality. He recalls a particularly harrowing moment, stating, "I just remember seeing my father, the weakest I'd ever seen him, and a priest at the end of my bed. They're talking about last rites and all that stuff, and [the nurse, Sandy] gave me a blood transfusion to save my life." This life-saving act of a nurse, whom Murray says he will never forget, was a turning point. However, the ordeal was far from over. The internal bleeding caused his organs to begin shutting down, necessitating a second surgery to "clean everything up" after his body had time to heal. The physical toll was immense, as he dropped from 180 pounds to a frail 118 pounds. Upon his release from the hospital, the sight of his own reflection was shocking. "I was a skeleton when I got out," he said. "I remember looking in the mirror the first time going, 'Who is that?' Like, I cried. I couldn't believe that I was looking back at that guy." Ultimately, the difficult experience helped shape the person he is today. It strengthened his bond with his father, who raised five children on his own and was by his side every day in the hospital. Furthermore, Murray's time in the hospital, watching movies and TV shows, solidified his desire to become an actor and "give people something to smile about." Jake Paul 'frontrunner' to fight Anthony Joshua next, says Joshua's promoterNew Foto - Jake Paul 'frontrunner' to fight Anthony Joshua next, says Joshua's promoter

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua, a real possibility? Very much so,says Joshua's longtime promoter, Eddie Hearn. "This bizarre world we live in, I think Jake Paul is absolutely the frontrunner to fight Anthony Joshua next," Hearn told Sky Sports, adding that, "I truly believe that you're going to see it at the beginning of 2026." Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) would be facing the biggest challenge in his boxing career against Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). Though Joshua's career is on the decline, he still was the unified heavyweight champion in 2016 and 2021. And at 6-6, Joshua would have a substantial size advantage over the 6-1 Paul. "I think it's wildly dangerous,"Hearn told TMZ Sports. "I mean, Jake Paul is a madman." Hearn said he was in New York for talks with Paul's business partner Nakisa Bidarian and of the possible matchup between the 28-year-old Paul and 35-year-old Joshua said, "commercially this fight breaks all kinds of records. … This is going to do the biggest numbers probably than we've ever seen in the sport." Paul is coming off of avictory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.by unanimous decision. Joshua is coming off of a fifth-roundknockout loss to Daniel Dubois. Mohamed Salah, one of soccer's biggest stars, criticized the sport's governing body in Europe over its tribute to Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as the "PelƩ of Palestinian football," which failed to mention how he died last week. Al-Obeid, 41, was killed by Israeli gunfire on Wednesday as he wasseeking humanitarian aidin thesouthern Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA). "Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the Palestinian PelƩ," the Union of European Football Associations said Friday in apost on X. "A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times." "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" Salah, a forward for the Premier League club Liverpool and captain of the Egyptian national team, said in response. UEFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday. Salah, 33, has been a vocal advocate for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, which the United Nations and other international experts say ison the brink of famine22 months into Israel's war with Hamas, which controls the enclave of about 2 million people. Finding food has become more difficult and deadly for Palestinians since late May, when the American and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation took over the distribution of aid after Israel lifted a two-and-half-month blockade. About1,400 Palestinians have been killedwhile seeking food aid, mostly at the hands of the Israeli military, the U.N. says. The Israeli military says it does not target civilians. Salah is not the only soccer star to speak out about the circumstances of al-Obeid's death. Eric Cantona, a former professional soccer player from France who was a forward for Manchester United, posted a tribute on Instagramalongside a photo of al-Obeid, asking, "HOW MUCH LONGER ARE WE GOING TO LET THEM COMMIT THIS GENOCIDE???" Israel insists that it is fighting an existential war and rejects genocide allegations as antisemitic. On Saturday, the PFA shared a statement attributed to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, praising al-Obeid for giving "talent and dedication to the children of Gaza" and giving their dreams "hope to blossom despite the suffering." Al-Obeid scored more than 100 goals over his long career, including two for the Palestinian national team, "making him one of the brightest stars of Palestinian football," the PFA said. He is survived by his wife and five children. The PFAsaid on XSaturday that 325 players, coaches, administrators, referees and club board members from the Palestinian soccer community had died in the conflict. More than 61,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including thousands of children, according to the local health ministry, while much of the territory lies in ruins. Israel launched its offensive after the terrorist attack of Oct. 7, 2023, during which Hamas-led militants killed around 1,200 people and took 251 others hostage. Of the 50 hostages remaining in Gaza, Israel believes about 20 are still alive.

Talk show hostDr. Philslammed the "ridiculous" outrage over actress Sydney Sweeney's viral "Great Jeans" American Eagle advertisement during an appearance on "Real Time" on Friday, and vowed to buy all of his female family members a pair of the actress' jeans to "show support." Phil McGraw, known as Dr. Phil, criticized those who equate the"Great Jeans" advertisementto the Holocaust, calling the comparison an "absolute insult" to the six million people who were killed in the tragedy. "For people to go crazy over that ad and to, to say that they say she's got good genes, and for them to say that's the equivalent of the Holocaust, that this is the same as all of that, is an absolute insult. Six million people were killed, six million. Jews were massacred and murdered, and they equate that to a blue jeans ad for a Hollywood actress?" McGraw railed. "What an insult." Bill Maher Slams 'Online Social Justice Girls' For Attacking Sydney Sweeney Over Jeans Ad The talk show host then revealed that he would be going out to "buy those jeans for every woman" in his family to "show support" for the actress. Prior to his comments on the controversy surrounding Sweeney's American Eagle advertisement, "Real Time" host Bill Maher brought up the actress being "exposed" as a Republican, and criticized the press for reporting on the issue as if it were a "scandal." Read On The Fox News App "Sydney Sweeney came out as, not came out, she was exposed as a Republican. This is the 27-year-old big movie star now. She was on 'Euphoria' here on this network and I think will be again when that show comes on. And she has the big jeans ad that was controversial. And they reported this like it was a scandal. She's a Republican," Maher noted. "I just got to say this is not where I want America to go. It is not a slur that someone is a Republican." Click Here For The Latest Media And Culture News "Oh, it depends on where you ask the question," McGraw responded. He clarified that if you ask whether someone is a Republican in Hollywood, "it's a slur," but if you asked the same question inthe Midwest, "it's not a slur." McGraw noted that being called a Republican or a Democrat, regardless of where someone lives, should never be considered an offensive remark. The 37-year-old veteran threw upwards of 60 passes with no limitations on Saturday, McVay said, which has given the Rams enough confidence to reintegrate Stafford back into practice in the coming week. Stafford had missed all of the Rams' practices this summer while dealing with a back injury. After the initial prognosis suggesting the quarterback would only miss about a week of practice,McVay announced in late Julythat Stafford would continue to miss time as the back issues continued. Shohei Ohtani becomes first player in 7 years to post 3 straight 40-homer seasonsNew Foto - Shohei Ohtani becomes first player in 7 years to post 3 straight 40-homer seasons

Withthe National League MVP race in full swing, Shohei Ohtani is doing what he usually does this time of year. The Los Angeles Dodgers star clubbed his 40th homer of the year on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, putting his team up 3-0 in a clash of first-place teams (and Ohtani suitors a couple years ago). The Dodgerswon the game 9-1, their first time winning back-to-back games at Dodger Stadium since a sweep of the Chicago White Sox on July 1-3. There aren't many players who can hit a home run like this one, 417 feet to dead center field: Shohei Ohtani is LOCKED IN šŸ”’pic.twitter.com/0u2e5ycpqA — MLB (@MLB)August 10, 2025 It's Ohtani's third straight 40-homer season, making him the first player to accomplish that kind of streak since Khris Davis did it with the Oakland Athletics in 2016-18. It's become a rare feat, with even mashers like Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber falling just short. Ohtani is doing this while coming back as a pitcher. He's been slowly ramping up on an MLB mound since June, progressing from single-inning starts tofour innings in his most recent appearance. He's been highly effective in that abbreviated action, with a 2.37 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 19 innings across eight starts. Even 25 punchouts keeps Ohtani in a class of his own, as Babe Ruth never posted 40 homers as a hitter and 25 strikeouts as a pitcher in a single season, something Ohtani has now done three times. That pitching performance could be what swings a highly competitive MVP race, as Ohtani is facing challenges from Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who has been great on both sides of the ball, and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, the only NL player with more homers than Ohtani, with 41. The Dodgers also got what they wanted to see from starting pitcher Blake Snell in his second start since returning from the injured list (shoulder inflammation). Snell struck out 10 Blue Jays in five shutout innings, allowing only three hits. "White Lotus"' Sam Nivola worries 'old movie stars' with plastic surgery are taking roles from young actors

Stefano Delia/HBO Sam Nivola thinks Hollywood is aging unusually in the 21st century — and that's not a good thing for his peers. The 21-year-oldWhite Lotusbreakout recently reflected on the state of the entertainment industry, specifically how older generations are clinging to their stardom and taking away lead roles from younger actors. "The old movie stars are getting plastic surgery, and they're looking younger and they're staying young," Nivola said in a newinterviewwithVariety. "You have these really old people playing young roles. And it's not giving any space for the young'uns to move in and make a name for themselves." Kayla Oaddams/WireImage The actor, who played the youngest son in a wealthy North Carolina family on season 3 of the Emmy-winning HBO series, went on to explain how he thinks the film industry might be shaken without new marquee idols. "With all due respect to those people, one day they won't be here anymore, literally," Nivola said. "And they will have to create new stars." But Nivola offered one exception to the rule. "I thinkTimothĆ©e Chalametis one of the best actors alive, and he's a total star," he said. "He's one of a very few examples I could come up with. But it's a different kind of movie star; he's not huge and jacked. He looks a little more like me." Nivola grew up in a household of thespians — his mother,Emily Mortimer, has starred in projects likeThe NewsroomandLars and the Real Girl, while his father,Alessandro Nivola, has acted in films likeThe BrutalistandA Most Violent Year. He also lamented how the studio system has grown more financially conservative since his parents launched their careers in the mid-1990s. "They'veMoneyball-ed the film industry!" he toldVariety. "Everything is about data now — and trying to predict, to the nearest dollar, how much money a movie's going to make. It screws the idea of risk-taking." Fabio Lovino/HBO He pointed to one major victim of that paradigm shift. "Comedy is more about risk-taking than any other genre," he said. "It's rare to have comedies at all. It's been pretty dry for a little while." Nivola, who previously had roles inMaestroandWhite Noise, will soon star in one of those rare comedies:Driver's Ed, a new film from director Bobby Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber) that will also feature Ella Stiller,Alyssa Milano,Kumail Nanjiani, andMolly Shannon. Carol Burnett, 92, Reveals Her Favorite Character to Play in Resurfaced Intervieworiginally appeared onParade. Before there was Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon or Amy Poehler, there was Carol Burnett. One of the undisputed queens of comedy, Burnett starred in the groundbreaking sketch comedy series,The Carol BurnettShow, from 1967 to 1978. Throughout its 11-season run, Burnett played countless kooky, quirky, and hilarious characters, many of which have become nothing short of iconic. From the animated, unnamed Charwoman, to a parody ofSunset Boulevard'sfictional silent film actress, Norma Desmond, Burnett's characters showcased not only her unrivaled comedic chops, but her range and creativity. In a recently resurfaced interview fromTODAY,Katie Couric sat down with Burnett and asked one question that had likely been on her audience's mind for decades. "Do you have a favorite character? One that you really love doing more than any other?" asked Couric, in the clip from 1995. "I think it was Eunice," replied Burnett. "She started out as such a witch. She was just horrible. And then as it developed, you could understand where her rage was coming from. It was this mother, and feeling trapped. And her dreams of being a movie star, of course, were ridiculous, but she always wanted to be better than what she was." Eunice was Burnett's character in a reoccurring sketch called "The Family." Harvey Korman, who died in 2008, played Ed Higgins, Eunice's husband, while Vicki Lawrence took on the role of Eunice's incredibly challenging mother, Thelma Harper. The first "The Family" sketch aired in 1973, and it was featured in the last five seasons ofThe Carol Burnett Show. The final installment of "The Family" was aired in 1979 during a short summer series,Carol Burnett & Company, that Burnett spearheaded afterThe Carol Burnett Showwrapped in 1978. All in all, Eunice made 31 appearances in "The Family" sketches, which have remained near and dear to Burnett's heart. Despite being one of the most celebrated and decorated comedians of all time, Burnett did not originally set out to be an actor at all. The comedic legend went to college intent on becoming a journalist. But, life had other plans. "I went to UCLA to major in journalism, but they didn't have a major in journalism. So I saw a theater arts/English major where I could take playwriting courses," she told theLA Timesin 2018. "I enrolled and as a freshman had to take an acting course among other things. So I took this acting class and we had to do a scene, so I picked something that I thought would be light... and I got laughs. And I thought, this is a good feeling. I think I want to do this." And do it she did. Burnett paved the way for generations of comics to come, has earned countless award nominations and has taken home seven Golden Globe Awards, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, a Tony Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among several others. Earlier this year, Burnett celebrated her 92nd birthday with an appearance on theThe Late Show, and host Stephen Colbert shared a clip in which he asked the star what she'd like to do with the rest of her life. "I would like to live," Burnett replied. And that's why she's the greatest of all time.
