NFL recommends enhanced security measures at team and league facilities following NYC shootingNew Foto - NFL recommends enhanced security measures at team and league facilities following NYC shooting

The NFL is recommending enhanced security measures at team and league facilities following ashooting last month at a Manhattan office towerby a gunman authorities say was targeting league headquarters. The memo, which was sent to all teams on Friday, outlined three recommended changes to security protocols. They will be reviewed at a special league meeting on Aug. 26. "In moments like these, we are reminded that safety is not a background function. It is foundational," the memo said. The enhanced measures recommended include: updated threat assessments at every team and league facility to ensure risks are accurately identified and mitigated; presence of armed officers at team and league facilities whenever players or staff members are present; weapons screening for anyone seeking entry into a team or league facility, including the use of walk-through magnetometers and X-ray scanners for bags, similar to the process for obtaining entry into games. "The Committee recognizes that these changes will affect day-to-day operations and require an investment of time, coordination, and resources," the memo said. "However, there is no higher priority than the safety and security of our players, coaches, staff, and everyone who works in and around our facilities." Investigators believe Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, was trying to get to the NFL offices after shooting several people in the building's lobby, then another in a 33rd-floor office on July 28, before he killed himself, authorities said. Police saidTamura had a history of mental illness, and a rambling note found on his body suggested that he had a grievance against the NFL over a claim that he suffered fromchronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease that can be diagnosed only by examining the brain after a person dies. Tamura played high school football in California a decade ago but never in the NFL. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Little League World Series 2025: Teams, schedule, bracket and how to watch the prestigious tournamentNew Foto - Little League World Series 2025: Teams, schedule, bracket and how to watch the prestigious tournament

One of the most prestigious youth sporting events is about to get underway. The Little League World Series kicks off Wednesday and promises another year of excellent play from some future major-league stars. The tournament will see a new winner in 2025 after defending champion Lake Mary was knocked off by another team from the Southwest. As fans gather in Williamsport to watch all the action, here's everything you need to know about the 2025 Little League World Series. The 2025 Little League World Series will take place Wednesday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 24. That's typical for the event, which was first held in 1947 and has generally taken place in August. Here's how things will shake out during the event. Bracket play begins Wednesday, Aug. 13. Throughout most of the tournament, games will begin at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., all ET, in the early rounds. Winners of those first four games will advance to the next round, where Canada, the Caribbean, the Northwest and West teams will get in their first game action. That will take place Friday, Aug. 15. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, the teams that lost in the first set of games will fight to keep their championship dreams alive. Game times will shift Sunday, Aug. 17, with 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. start times on that day. Play will then alternate between the winners and losers bracket between Aug. 18 and Aug. 19. On Aug. 20, eight teams will remain in contention. All teams will play that day. The two teams in the winners bracket that lose on the 20th will then play on the 21st to determine which team will head to the its respective final. The U.S. championship game and the international championship game will both occur Saturday, Aug. 23. The international game will happen first, with play starting at 12:30 p.m. ET. The U.S. championship game will take place at 3:30 p.m. ET. The next day, Sunday, Aug. 24, both the consolation game and the LLBWS championship game will be held. The consolation game begins at 10 a.m. ET. The LLBWS championship game is set for 3 p.m. ET. A total of 20 teams — 10 from the United States and 10 International clubs — will compete in a modified double-elimination tournament. Play begins Aug. 13, with the winners advancing and remaining in the winners portion of the bracket. Starting Aug. 16, the teams that lost their first games will face off to determine which teams remain in the event. Once a team loses twice, it is eliminated. But that changes once the championships begin. The U.S. championship game and international championship game will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, and will both be single-elimination games. That creates a scenario where a team could be eliminated from the event with just one loss. The same thing will hold true for the LLBWS championship game. It's a single-elimination contest. Games will last six innings. If a game is tied after six innings, both teams will play the seventh inning as normal, with no runners on base. But if the game extends past the seventh inning, a runner will open each inning on second base. The following 20 teams will take part in the 2025 Little League World Series: Region Team City/State Great Lakes Clarendon Hills LL Clarendon Hills Metro Fairfield National LL Fairfield, Connecticut Mid-Atlantic Glenmoore Eagle LL Upper Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania Midwest Sioux Falls LL Sioux Falls, South Dakota Mountain Summerlin South LL Las Vegas, Nevada New England Braintree American LL Braintree, Massachusetts Northwest Bonney Lake/Sumner LL Bonney Lake, Washington Southeast Irmo LL Irmo, South Carolina Southwest Lamar LL Richmond, Texas West Honolulu LL Honolulu, Hawaii Asia-Pacific Tung-Yuan LL Taipei, Chinese Taipei Australia Brisbane North Region Little League Brisbane, Queensland Canada Little Mountain LL Vancouver, British Columbia Caribbean Aruba Center LL Santa Cruz, Aruba Europe-Africa South Czech Republic LL Brno, Czechia Japan Joto LL Tokyo, Japan Latin America Cardenales Little League Barquisimeto, Venezuela Mexico El Swing Perfecto Little League Chihuahua, Mexico Panama Vacamonte Little League Arraijan, Panama Puerto Rico Juan A. Bibiloni LL Yabucoa, Puerto Rico A full bracket for the 2025 Little League World Seriescan be found here. Little League World Series players must be between the ages of 10 and 12. The tournament previously allowed 13-year-olds to take part in the event, but altered that rule in 2015. Given the ages of the players involved, there arestrict rules on pitching limitsat the event. Players who are 10 are capped at 75 pitches a day. Players who are 11 or 12 are allowed to throw 85 pitches in a day. There are also mandatory days of rest for players based on how many pitches they throw in a game. Players who throw between 0 and 20 pitches are not required to rest. Players who throw between 21 and 35 pitches must rest for one day. That figure jumps to two days of rest if a pitcher throws between 36 and 50 pitches. Three days of rest are required for players who throw between 51 and 65 pitches. Once a pitcher throws 66 or more pitches, they need to rest for four days. Since the first Little League World Series in 1947, the event has been held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. These days, games are held at either Howard J. Lamade Stadium or Volunteer Stadium, which are located at the Little League headquarters complex. Williamsport won the first-ever Little League World Series, which featured teams from 17 different Little Leagues around the United States. Twelve total teams took part in the first Little League World Series in 1947. Every single game and event between Aug. 13 and Aug. 22 — including the Little League Home Run Derby and the MLB Little League Classic between the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets — will air on ESPN. On Aug. 23, both the U.S. championship game and the international championship game will air on ABC. The LLBWS championship will also air on ABC on Aug. 24. That game will begin at 3 p.m. ET. Fans looking to watch the consolation game on the 24th will be able to do so over on ESPN2. That game begins at 10 a.m. ET.

Fantasy football injury report preseason: Latest on Najee Harris, Joe Mixon and othersNew Foto - Fantasy football injury report preseason: Latest on Najee Harris, Joe Mixon and others

There are only a few weeks remaining until the start of the2025 NFL regular season, andfantasy footballdrafts are well underway at this stage of the calendar. The first week of thepreseasonis in the books. Many positional battles were on full display and now all 32 teams have experienced their first live game action in 2025. As is the nature of the NFL, multiple players are dealing with injuries and could potentially miss time. Here is the latest injury status for star players that could affect your fantasy rosters as draft season heats up. Mooney suffered a shoulder injury in practice on July 25 while diving for a deep pass. He remains without a timetable to return to the field, and head coach Raheem Morris has been noncommittal on Mooney being ready for Week 1. The Ravens tight end suffered an ankle sprain and a broken bone in his foot during practice on July 29. The injury required surgery, and his timetable to return at the time was five to six weeks, which aligns closely with Week 1. The Bills' top target from 2024 suffered a high ankle sprain during practice on Aug. 1. He is expected to miss the preseason but head coach Sean McDermott has said Shakir is expected to be healthy in time for Week 1. The first running back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft suffered his second ACL tear in his right knee in as many years. He has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and won't play in the upcoming 2025 season. The Panthers will move forward with Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle as their primary running backs. The rookie fifth-round pick left practice early on Thursday, Aug. 7 and an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his heel. He is in a wide-open backfield competition with veteran Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders for touches. He is not expected to miss extended time. Reed has been dealing with a sprained foot, and head coach Matt LaFleur has said he is hopeful Reed will be ready for Week 1, listing him as "day-to-day". The 25-year-old receiver was seen wearing a walking boot during the preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 9. Watson suffered a torn ACL in Week 18 of the 2024 season and appears ahead of schedule in his recovery. Still, he is expected to begin the season on the PUP list. This designation would keep him out at least the first four weeks of the regular season. Mixon opened training camp on the non-football injury list (NFI) after dealing with a foot injury he suffered earlier in the offseason. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that Mixon will be re-evaluated closer to the start of the regular season and he reportedly has not suffered any setbacks. Dell is on the PUP list and has no timetable for a return after suffering a gruesome knee injury in Week 16 of the 2024 season. The Texans' top healthy receivers are Nico Collins, Christian Kirk and rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Richardson suffered a dislocated right pinky finger in the Colts' preseason opener on Aug. 7. He isn't expected to miss time after throwing at practice on Saturday, Aug. 9. The veteran receiver suffered a high ankle sprain during practice on Tuesday, July 29. He has not practiced since, but head coach Andy Reid has said it will not require surgery, and it doesn't sound like something that will keep him out for the start of the regular season. The veteran running back suffered a superficial eye injury on July 5 as a result of a fireworks accident. He was later placed on the NFI list on July 17. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was noncommittal on Harris' status for Week 1 when speaking to reporters on Friday, Aug. 8. He added that "there's a chance" Harris is ready for the start of the season. This remains a situation to monitor. The 37-year-old has not practiced fully in training camp, but head coach Sean McVay announced Stafford was to make his 2025 camp debut Monday, Aug. 11. On Wednesday, Aug. 6 NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Stafford was "dealing with an aggravated disc" in his back and had an epidural shot to relieve the pain. The veteran QB has made enough progress to return to the field. The Swiss Army Knife player for the Saints is on the PUP list. He is working his way back from an ACL tear that he suffered in Week 13 of the 2024 season. He has been seen working off to the side throughout camp. Lazard suffered a shoulder injury in the Jets' preseason opener on Saturday, Aug. 9. He was seen wearing a sling on his right arm after the game. He is set to undergo further tests. The Jets' second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft suffered a high ankle sprain during practice on Aug. 4. The LSU product has received praise from his teammates and coaches and appears ready to be the Week 1 starter, but he will miss some time and does not have a timetable to return. The Eagles' star wideout has been held out of practice since Aug. 1 as he nurses a hamstring injury. There doesn't seem to be concern about Brown's status, but it's a situation worth monitoring. Aiyuk is not expected to be ready for Week 1 as he works his way back from an ACL injury he suffered in Week 7 of the 2024 season. He remains on the PUP list and general manager John Lynch told reporters Thursday, Aug. 7, he "doesn't think" Aiyuk will be cleared for Week 1. White exited the Buccaneers' preseason opener on Aug. 9 after suffering a groin injury. He is set for further testing to determine the severity of the injury. An extended absence would open the door for Sean Tucker to take on a complementary role to starter Bucky Irving. Godwin is on the PUP list as he works his way back from a dislocated ankle he suffered during Week 7 in 2024. General manager Jason Licht told reporters on Tuesday, Aug. 5, that Godwin is "exactly where" the team hoped he would be in his recovery, but there's still no decision on his Week 1 status. Rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka stands to gain the most if Godwin misses the start of the regular season. Spears suffered a high ankle sprain in the team's preseason opener on Aug. 9. Head coach Brian Callahan announced that the running back will "miss a couple of weeks at least." Hezly Rivera steps into the spotlight at US gymnastics championshipsNew Foto - Hezly Rivera steps into the spotlight at US gymnastics championships

USA TODAY and Yahoo may earn commission from links in this article. Pricing and availability subject to change. Hezly Rivera has the spotlight all to herself. A year after her unexpected inclusion on the Paris Olympic team, Rivera served notice that she's going to be a gymnast to watch in the leadup to the Los Angeles Games. The 17-year-old won her first title at the U.S. gymnastics championships on Sunday night, establishing herself as a favorite for the all-around at the world championships this fall. "It means the world to me," Rivera said. "I've worked so hard for this. It was not easy coming back after the Olympics." The world championships are Oct. 19-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The women's team will be announced later, while national champion Asher Hong; Paris Olympian Brody Malone; Brandon Dang; Patrick Hoopes; Kameron Nelson and Donnell Whittenburg made themen's team. Then 16, Rivera was a longshot to make the Paris team. But injuries to world medalists Shilese Jones and Skye Blakely at the Olympic trials gave Rivera an opportunity, and she grabbed it. Rivera was theyoungest member of all of Team USA. Though she only did two events in qualifying and did not compete in the team final, she will forever be anOlympic championalongside Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey. Now, with her Olympic teammates all taking a break, Rivera is showing she can hold her own. Her score Sunday of 56.4 points was thehighest in the world this year(I put no stock in Russian Cup scores), and her two-day score of 112 was 0.800 points ahead of Leanne Wong. Rivera also tied with Blakely for the top score on uneven bars and was first on balance beam and floor exercise. Now, this doesn't mean Rivera is a lock for Los Angeles. Of the women who were on the podium at the last two national championships following an Olympic Games, only Jordan Chiles went on to make the next Olympic team. (Chiles was the silver medalist in 2017 and the bronze medalist in 2022.) But Rivera is carrying herself like the Olympic champion she is. If she stays healthy, this title will be the first of many. Here are other takeaways from the U.S. gymnastics championships: Skye Blakely looks as good as ever. The two-time world championship medalist was considered a lock for Paris beforetearing her Achilles during training at the Olympic trials. This after she'd torn an elbow ligament during the 2021 Olympic trials. But Blakely, 20, hasn't been deterred, saying sheplans to go through Los Angeles. She made her return at the national championships, tying with Rivera for the top score on uneven bars, her signature event. Blakely was second to Rivera on balance beam, though her 14.4 on Day 2 was the highest score on the event of the entire competition. Joscelyn Roberson isn't messing around with her floor routine. The Paris alternate, who trained with Simone Biles before going to Arkansas last year, has a monster 6.5 start value on floor. That's the highest for any American on any event right now, and is the toughest floor routine being done in the world right now. (Biles had a 6.8 start value on floor last year, but she's otherworldly.) Roberson had some issues with some of her landings, and she crunched her ankle when she came up short on a pass Sunday night. But give her a few more months to train the routine, and she should be in contention for a medal at the world championships. Asher Hong is the U.S. champion, but Brody Malone remains the U.S. man to beat. Malone, a three-time U.S. champion, only did four events at nationals because of a knee injury. But his 16.251 on high bar on Day 2 was the highest score of the entire meet and is a routine that will put him in contention for a medal at the world championships. Malone also had the highest two-day score on parallel bars, was second on still rings and third on pommel horse. Hong won his second U.S. title easily, finishing more than 7 points ahead of fellow Paris Olympian Frederick Richard. That's the largest margin of victory ever at the U.S. championships. Neither Richard nor Stephen Nedoroscik made the world team. Nedoroscik, who endeared himself to the entire country as"The Pommel Horse Guy,"has only been training for three months and fell on his routine on Day 2. Paul Juda went out on top. Juda announced his retirement during anin-meet interview with NBC on Saturday night. He was the only member of the bronze-medal-winning U.S. men's team who didn't compete at the national championships. "I just realized, in this moment, there was nothing more that I wanted to achieve in this sport," Juda said. "... Sometimes you've got to know when to walk away. And I'm happy doing that today." Juda making the Paris squad was something of a surprise, but he made the most of his Olympic moment. He helped the U.S. men win bronze, their first Olympic medal since 2008, and was the top American in the all-around. After joining Simone Biles' G.O.A.T. tour, Juda returned to Michigan for his final season. He helped the Wolverines win the NCAA title and finished second to Frederick Richard in the all-around, then proposed to longtime girlfriend Reyna Guggino after the meet. "This has been the journey of a lifetime," Juda said Saturday. "I've got no regrets. I'm full of joy and I'm ready to move on with my life. So thank you so much for the ride and the emotions and the highs and the lows. It's been the best, best, best years of my life." Follow Nancy Armour on social media @nrarmour. John Oliver slammed former Superman Dean Cain over his announcement last week that heplans to join ICE, saying it shows the agency might be in "trouble." Discussing the recent raids taking place all over the U.S. on the latest episode of "Last Week Tonight," Oliver said that ICE seems "more than a little desperate" to hire new agents, pointing to the fact that they have removed age limits and are putting out "gross recruitment ads." He then turned his attention to Cain, who said last week during an appearance on Fox News' "Jesse Watters Primetime" that he "will be sworn in as an ICE agent, ASAP." "I'm not saying that ICE isn't finding people," he continued. "I'm just saying, when you are reduced to pinning a badge on the 59-year-old star of 'The Dog Who Saved Christmas,' 'The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation,' 'The Dog Who Saved Holidays,' 'The Dog Who Saved Halloween,' 'The Dog Who Saved Easter' and 'The Dog Who Saved Summer,' maybe you are in trouble." It's true — though Cain played Superman/Clark Kent in the '90s ABC series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," he's more recently taken to the television film space, where he has starred in six "The Dog Who Saved…" movies. As a result, Oliver said that Cain shouldn't be concerned about covering up on duty to avoid being doxxed. "On the plus side, no need for that guy to wear a mask because the chances of anyone recognizing him are fucking zero," he said. Cain later responded to Oliver's remarks on X, writing: "He stole that mask joke from the internet — and he also laughed hysterically when Trump said he was going to run for president. Case closed. Kelly Clarkson Fights Back Tears Onstage in Viral Video Taken 12 Days Before Death of Ex-Husband Brandon BlackstockNew Foto - Kelly Clarkson Fights Back Tears Onstage in Viral Video Taken 12 Days Before Death of Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock

Kelly Clarkson got visibly emotional during her July 26 Las Vegas show in a newly resurfaced video The moment came when she was discussing a telling lyric change in her hit song "Piece by Piece" Clarkson broke down in tears while talking about the song just 12 days before the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock Kelly Clarksongot raw and real with her fans 12 days before thedeath of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. In a newly resurfacedvideorecorded by TikTok user@modestishottest4ufrom Clarkson's July 26 show at her Las Vegas Studio Session residency, the pop star, 43, broke down in tears multiple times while introducing the newly reworked version of her song "Piece by Piece." "Compartmentalization!" Clarkson urged herself while wiping away tears and trying to keep from crying. She then went on to share that after a 2023 lyric change to "Piece by Piece" — in the wake of her2020 split from Blackstock— she has since changed the song once again to reflect more of where she is today. Elizabeth Martin/TikTok "I've never rewritten a song more and I probably never will," she began. "I wrote this song with a lot of hope and projection for happiness and better than what was happening. And then, well, life set in and I had to change the lyrics. Everybody was like, 'Wait, why aren't you singing this song?' And I was like, 'Have you heard the lyrics?' That's fun. Embarrassing." Kevin Mazur/Getty The song originally read as a message to Clarkson's estranged father about how Blackstock was a better father and partner to her and was released in 2015, two years after the former couple tied the knot. "I ended up changing the lyrics. We did it one time, I did a residency here, and then I was like, 'You know what, that sounded a little angry,' " she shared. "So I just wanted to explain how it feels now. I'm 43. I've done some therapy, and I changed the lyrics now and I think it's perfect. I promise. I'm not gonna change it again." Further explaining why she decided to tweak the lyrics, Clarkson added, "It just represents, kind of, I don't know I feel like we grow up, right? And this is the more grown up version of it." However, as she tried to go on, Clarkson once again got emotional, saying, "I'm really trying to pull it together," before introducing the song by declaring, "Screw it, let's just sing it. In her2023 lyric change, Clarkson sang, "I just walk away, when they ask for money. I take care of me 'cause I love me. Piece by piece I restored my faith that a heart can still beat even when it breaks," a seeming reference to Blackstock's financial requests during their divorce. And in the updated version Clarkson sang, "I'm learning everyday how to love me. I let go of the shame that you taught me. Pete Carroll defends Geno Smith after Raiders QB flipped off Seahawks fan: 'Did you see what the sign said?'New Foto - Pete Carroll defends Geno Smith after Raiders QB flipped off Seahawks fan: 'Did you see what the sign said?'

Thursday's preseason game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Seattle Seahawks marked an early homecoming for Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith. But Smith's return wasn't quite as welcoming, after the veteran was caught flipping off a Seahawks fan holding a sign while he was coming out of the tunnel. In anews conferenceSunday, Carroll was asked early on about the gesture. Carroll quickly jumped to the defense of his quarterback. "Did you see what the sign said?" Carroll asked. When the reporter confirmed that they had, Carroll kept things moving: "Next question." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The fan's provocative sign read, "Bigger Bust — Geno or JaMarcus Russell?" That prompted the reaction from Smith. Russell,a former No. 1 overall draft pick with a troubled NFL career, lasted only three seasons with the Raiders as quarterback before being released. (He recently made headlines last summer, afterbeing removed as a volunteer coach and sued by his high school.) On Thursday, Carroll was seen trying to take down the sign from the fan after the interaction, seemingly understanding the effect it had on Smith. Smith, who was selected in the second round of the 2013 draft out of West Virginia, was on his way to becoming a career backup before finding his resurgence with the Seahawks. With Russell Wilson sent to the Denver Broncos, Smith won Seattle's starting job in 2022, eventually earning his first Pro Bowl nod and the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year. Carroll, who had coached the Seahawks since 2010, was a mentor for Smith during that time, beforehe and the team parted waysat the end of the 2023 season. WhenCarroll took the Raiders' coaching job, it was only fitting to have Smith join him. Theveteran QB was traded to Las Vegasin March. Smith eventuallysigned a two-year extensionto keep him out of free agency next offseason. Thursday's preseason game ended with a 23-23 tie between Carroll's old team and his new one. In a game that primarily featured Aidan O'Connell at QB for Las Vegas, Smith played limited snaps, but went 1-for-3 for 15 yards in the draw.
