'Ketamine Queen' pleads guilty in Matthew Perry's overdose deathNew Foto - 'Ketamine Queen' pleads guilty in Matthew Perry's overdose death

The Los Angeles woman known as the "Ketamine Queen" pleaded guilty Wednesday to five federal counts in connection withthe fatal overdoseof "Friends" actor Matthew Perry in 2023, a court spokesman said. Jasveen Sangha, 42, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, three counts of distribution of ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury. Sangha, a dual citizen of the United States and the U.K. who has been in federal custody since August 2024, faces a maximum prison sentence of 65 years, prosecutors said last month ina news release. She is set to be sentenced on Dec. 10. "She's taking responsibility for her actions," Mark Geragos, Sangha's attorney, said in a brief statement last month after prosecutors announced that she had agreed to plead guilty. Perry was found face down in the heated end of his pool at his Los Angeles home on Oct. 28, 2023. He was 54. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office attributed his death to an accidental overdose of ketamine, a hallucinogenic anesthetic that in recent years has gained popularity as an off-label, unregulated treatment for depression. Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on "Friends," spoke openly about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, chronicling some of those experiences in the 2022 memoir "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing." In his final months, Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety. But he sought unsupervised doses, developing a dependence on the drug that was"spiraling out of control,"leading up to his death, prosecutors have said. The medical examiner's office said the amount of ketamine found in his body was equivalent to the amount used in general anesthesia. Sangha worked with a man named Erik Fleming to give ketamine to Perry, prosecutors have said, citing Sangha's plea agreement. In the month of Perry's death, Sangha and Fleming sold Perry 51 vials of ketamine and provided them to Kenneth Iwamasa, his live-in personal assistant, according to prosecutors. Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with the ketamine leading up to the fatal overdose, prosecutors have said — including at least three shots on the day he was found dead. Sangha called Fleming on the encrypted messaging application Signal after having learned from news reports that Perry had died, according to prosecutors. "Delete all our messages," Sangha instructed Fleming. Fleming pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death. Iwamasa pleaded guilty the same month to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death.

Seth Meyers reacts to Donald Trump's "Late Night" criticisms: 'It's kind of nice'

Lloyd Bishop/NBC via Getty; Aaron Schwartz/CNP/Bloomberg via Getty Seth Meyersis looking on the bright side after becoming the latest late-night host to get unexpectedly skewered byDonald Trumpon social media. TheLate Nighthost was congratulated for "finally getting on Trump's radar" by guestKumail Nanjianion Tuesday. "For weeks, he was picking on[Jimmy] Fallonand[Jimmy] Kimmeland[Stephen] Colbertand I was like, 'What's a girl gotta do?'" Nanjiani remarked as Meyers laughed. "Because you talk about him, too!" Lloyd Bishop/NBC via Getty TheEternalsstar then pulled out his phone and notified Meyers that he would be reading the president's rant in its entirety to him and the audience. "Oh, that's very nice of you, thanks," Meyers deadpanned as the crowd laughed. The 51-year-old presenter could be seen smiling and nodding along as Nanjiani read Trump's rant aloud, which in part labeled him an "insecure child" and claimed that his late-night program had "no ratings" whatsoever. "What I love about it is that he called Colbert untalented. He called Kimmel even less talented than Colbert. And then he called Fallon insecure," Nanjiani explained. "And for you, he combined all three!" Meyers took the president's remarks in stride. "Yeah! It's kind of nice," he said. "In a way, it's almost like he's saying, 'You know, he's got something for everybody.'" He then quickly steered the conversation toward Nanjiani's career. Sign up forEntertainment Weekly's free daily newsletterto get breaking news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more. Last week, the president took to Truth Social in the middle of the night to share that he'd heard a "sick rumor" that Meyers'Late Nightcontract had been renewed. "There is a sick rumor going around that Fake News NBC extended the contract of one of the least talented Late Night television hosts out there, Seth Meyers," the septuagenarian wrote. "He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child. So, why would Fake News NBC extend this dope's contract. I don't know, but I'll definitely be finding out!!!" Trump'sLate Nightcomments were especially perplexing at the time givenDeadline had already reportedwell over a year ago that NBC had extended Meyers' contract through 2028. Meyers, like many other late-night hosts, often pokes fun at Trump and his administration, especially in his "A Closer Look" segment. Trump has repeatedly lashed out at a group of late-night hosts over the last two months. The formerApprenticehost began his feud against late-night by gloating overThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert's surprise cancellation, writing, "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!" He reiterated his claim thatKimmel would be "next to go" after Colbertin a subsequent post, claiming that Fallon would be following shortly after them both over atThe Tonight Show. However, like Meyers, NBC hasalready renewed Fallon's contract until 2028. Watch Meyers address the president's comments in the clip above. Read the original article onEntertainment Weekly

Roy Jones Jr. given the 1988 Olympic gold medal by the boxer who got the controversial win over himNew Foto - Roy Jones Jr. given the 1988 Olympic gold medal by the boxer who got the controversial win over him

Roy Jones Jr. has the gold medal from the 1988 Olympics — thanks to a gift from the South Korean fighter who defeated him in the controversial boxing match. Park Si-hun traveled to Jones' ranch in Pensacola, Florida, two years ago and gave the Hall of Famer the medal that Jones seemed to have earned in a bout most observers outside of the judges believed he dominated. The news was revealed Wednesday in a video posted onJones' YouTube page. Jones went to his gym on May 30, 2023, believing it was for an on-camera interview. Instead, he found Park in the ring and both fighters' families there. "I had the gold medal, but I wanted to give it back to you. It belongs to you," Park said through his son, who translated. Park was awarded a 3-2 decision in the light middleweight title bout in Seoul, South Korea, lifting the stunned Jones into the air in the ring after the result was announced. He has said the criticism he received and the depression he feltsometimes led to suicidal urges. The International Olympic Committee in 1997 concluded it had found no evidence to support bribery allegations against the judges who voted in favor of Park. The U.S. Olympic Committee had called for an investigation in 1996 after documents belonging to East Germany's Stasi secret police revealed reports of judges being paid to vote for South Korean boxers. Despite not winning gold, Jones was awarded the Val Barker Trophy for the best boxer in the Games. He went on to win titles in four weight classes from middleweight to heavyweight and went 66-9 as a pro. Park retired from boxing after the Olympics but later became a coach. ___ AP sports:https://apnews.com/sports

Cardi B will only address pregnancy rumors on her own time. She made that abundantly clear with a pen and scathing words — both directed to one brash and curious man. The Grammy-winning rapper was seen on camera hurling a pen at the man in the press pool as she left an Alhambra courthouse during the lunch break of her civil assault trial. According to footage shared byABC7andTMZ, the man speaks up from the press pool asking Cardi B about her relationships with ex-husband Offset andboyfriend Stefon Diggs. "Insiders are claiming that Offset is publicly bragging about getting you pregnant for the fourth time," he says. "Do you foresee any paternity issues with Stefon Diggs?" She takes the pen from his hand and throws it in the direction of the inquirer. "Stop disrespecting me," she fires back, before her team surrounds her. "Don't disrespect me," she adds. Cardi B shares three young children with Offset. They married in 2017 and went their separate ways in 2024. They were previously headed for divorce in 2020, but seemingly made amends. She wentofficialwith NFL star Diggs earlier this year. It's unclear how exactly the pregnancyrumorsbegan. She imparted a final message to the press from the vehicle: "You're not going to see me out today, and you can thank him. I'm not playing around. I was very nice. I was very kind." The 32-year-old "Bodak Yellow" and "WAP" hip-hop star prevailed Tuesday in a civil lawsuit brought against her by a Beverly Hills security guard after two days of testimony. Emani Ellis sued Cardi B for $24 million, accusing her of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress in the aftermath of a confrontation in a hallway outside of an obstetrician's office. John Force's charisma and demeanor remain undaunted despite long, tough recovery from horrific crashNew Foto - John Force's charisma and demeanor remain undaunted despite long, tough recovery from horrific crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — John Force's flamboyant personality still shines brightly. The memories of ahorrific crash 14 months agohave started to fade away, and Force's charisma and million-dollar smile — two features that played a role in his successon the trackand on television — remain in place. He didn't stay away long, either. Force attended his first post-crash racein late October. He has been at most of this year's races, including last weekend for the one he calls "the grandaddy of races" — the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. He still meets regularly with team members, shows off cars and, of course, enjoys mingling with fans in a new role — the non-racing team owner of John Force Racing. "I'm just really glad I'm standing. Walking is a little rough for me on the starting line," he said last week at a shop owned by his son-in-law, IndyCar driver Graham Rahal. "Sometimes, I've got to hang onto a pole, but I'm getting through it." Just arriving at this moment is a milestone for Force, especially considering his long, arduous journey since a catastrophic engine failure sent him crashing into a concrete wall in Virginia at roughly 300 mph. The rebound sent him careening across the center line and into another wall. He suffered a fractured sternum among other injuries, but it was the traumatic brain injury that forced the 76-year-old out of the car after winning 16 Funny Car titles and an NHRA-record 157 races. Force spent months working with specialized therapists on an outpatient basis in California as he tried to return to the sport that turned him and his family into national stars. While he would, naturally, prefer driving, Force is following doctors' orders and is using the positive vibes from interacting with fans to help fuel his rehab. "I love the fans," Force said. "I ran other circuits but not like I've lived NHRA for the last 50, over 50, years. And I've got guys like (Jack) Beckman that taught my wife and my kids, they even snuck my name on the side of (Beckman's) car. But Beckman is a great talker, (Austin) Prock is a great talker, Brittany (Force) is, so we get the job done." Those are the team's three regular drivers, and they've done well. Prock and Beckman are first and second in the Funny Car points with six events remaining. Brittany Force, the latest of John Force's daughters to compete on drag strips, still ranks fifth in Top Fuel as she continues to race for her father. But as difficult as the crash and recovery were on John Force, it was equally challenging for his 39-year-old daughter. "Last year was really tough, just watching everything he went through and then we spent months in the hospital with him and then watching him return," Brittany Force said. "His first race after his wreck was Las Vegas, which, ironically, Austin and I doubled up (winning) and that to me was just a higher power. His first race back, both his cars get into the winner's circle and it was my first win in two years to the date." Behind the scenes, Brittany Force says not much has changed. She says her father loves family time, being at the team shop, and talking racing. "One of the biggest things he's taught me is how we interact with the fans, and that's why he's so loved by his fans," she said. "That's how he's always been." No, Force won't be climbing into or out of a car. But he's likely to be at whatever stop is next on the NHRA schedule. It's who he is. And after everything he's endured over all these months, he figures that's a pretty good place to be. "There's nothing they can do to make me better, all they can do is teach me the things I'm off with," he said. "But I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I don't get to drive my hot rod. They want me to warm it up, but with the problems I've got, I just, you know, do what the doctors tell me to do and I'm getting better." ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Kalen DeBoer hot seat talk premature, but his Alabama bandwagon is emptyNew Foto - Kalen DeBoer hot seat talk premature, but his Alabama bandwagon is empty

The Kalen DeBoerbandwagon has emptied out. It's been left to rust, and if you're left holding stock in DeBoer, it's trading at a 52-week low. Alabamahas 60-plus million reasons (aka DeBoer's buyout) to stay the course with its beleaguered coach, but there's no denying this much: There's trouble in Tuscaloosa. DeBoer is swimming upstream against a strong current afterAlabama got whipped by Florida Statein the season opener. On this edition of "SEC Football Unfiltered," a podcast from the USA TODAY Network, hostsBlake ToppmeyerandJohn Adamsdiscuss whether this result puts DeBoer on the hot seat. They're dumping the idea of Alabama making the playoff, while increasing their stock in two SEC teams that showed promise for a higher-than-expected ceiling. Also, the hosts react toArch Manning's lackluster performancein Texas' loss to Ohio State, and Adams stumps fora certain SEC team to be ranked No. 1in the polls. Subscribe to SEC Football UnfilterediTunes|Google Play|Spotify Toppmeyer:It's tempting to say yes, after the Script A translated to awful in the season opener. It's not just that Alabama lost. The Crimson Tide got bullied. The rushing yardage differential (230 to 74) tells you everything you need to know about how this went. Alabama has become an opponent that you can talk trash to and get away with it. But, there's the matter of DeBoer's buyout. If Alabama fires DeBoer after this season, it would owe him the second-largest buyout in college football history. As bad as it might seem right now for Alabama fans, I don't think the Tide have found the rock bottom that would be necessary to swallow that buyout after Year 2. DeBoer's in trouble, but hot-seat talk remains a bit premature. Adams:I sprained my ankle springing free of the DeBoer bandwagon during that debacle in Tallahassee. Is Alabama drilling for oil? If not, does Texas A&M have any funds leftover from firing Jimbo Fisher (at a cost of $76 million) that it could loan Alabama? My gut tells me Alabama isn't too eager to shell out more than $60 million to fire DeBoer at a time when schools also need money to pay their athletes. So, I wouldn't label DeBoer as being on the hot seat just yet, but the fact that we're using the words "hot seat" and "buyout" in the same sentence with a coach who's only 14 games deep into his tenure should tell you how this is going for DeBoer. Brandi Carlile Announces First Solo Album in Four Years, 'Returning to Myself,' and Releases Video for Title TrackNew Foto - Brandi Carlile Announces First Solo Album in Four Years, 'Returning to Myself,' and Releases Video for Title Track

Brandi Carlile has announced her first solo album in four years, "Returning to Myself," set to come out Oct. 24. Carlile's co-producers on the project are Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon, the latter of Bon Iver fame. The first single from the album, its title track, was released concurrently with the album announcement on Wednesday morning, as was a music video directed by Floria Sigismondi. More from Variety Elton John and Brandi Carlile Unite to Raise $1 Million to Offset Trump Cuts in HIV/AIDS Relief Funding Sundance Festival Favorite Doc 'Come See Me in the Good Light' Lands at Apple TV+ Elton John and Brandi Carlile on Reinventing the Collaborative Album With 'Who Believes in Angels?': 'We Couldn't Do Steve and Eydie - We Had to Go In Hell-for-Leather' "Returning to Myself" finds the 11-time Grammy winner on a new label, or labels, both of them part of Universal Music Group. The album will be a joint release from Interscope and Lost Highway, the latter being a freshly revived Americana imprint that is now part of the Interscope fold. It's her first release on her own since 2021's "In These Silent Days," although earlier this year, Carlile and Elton John issued a collaborative album, "Who Believes in Angels?" Carlile's new single arrives just four days after the end of the eligibility period for the 2026 Grammys, so the two projects will not compete for awards. Carlile worked with her three co-producers separately and also, at times, collectively. She collaborated with Dessner (the National member who has produced Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams) at his Long Pond studio in the Hudson Valley. Meanwhile, she worked with Watt (Pearl Jam, the Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga) at Henson Studios in Hollywood. In a few cases, Dessner and Watt worked in tandem with her. Vernon joined as the album's fourth producer on the track "Human," but he also added vocals on the track "A War With Time" and contributed instrumental work throughout the project. Beyond the three star co-producers, instrumental support comes from her longtime collaborators the Hanseroth Twins plus SistaStrings (Monique and Chauntee Ross), drummers Matt Chamberlain and Chad Smith, and keyboardist Josh Klinghoffer. The title song of "Returning to Myself" reflects the idea that Carlile is at least momentarily stepping aside from her role as musical enabler — someone who has famously supported Joni Mitchell, collaborated with Elton and produced a Grammy-winning Tanya Tucker and other artists — to focus on standing alone and looking more inward. But in that song, she also debates whether focusing on oneself after a period of sharing is necessary, selfish, or perhaps a bit of both. "I think people are going to hear that song in different ways," she said. "Some are going to hear it as a call to return to themselves. Some are going to hear it as a justification not to. And I love that about it because it is a deeply conflicting feeling. There is no a-ha moment in that song. It's just a contemplation of, 'Is enlightenment aloneness or is enlightenment learning togetherness and sacrificial love?'" Among the song titles that will intrigue fans most on first blush is "Joni," a paean to her friend and hero Joni Mitchell. One that will already be familiar to her followers is "You Without Me," a version of which was included on the collaborative duo album with Elton John they put out earlier this year; the rendition included on her solo album is an all-new recording. The remaining tracks on the 10-song album are "A Woman Oversees," "Anniversary," "Church & State," "No One Knows Us" and "A Long Goodbye." As far as musical reference points for the album, Carlile says in promotional material, "One thing that came to mind early on was Emmylou Harris' groundbreaking album 'Wrecking Ball.' I've loved that album my whole life and referenced it musically in the studio more times than I can count, but I never contemplated it conceptually. I don't know if Daniel Lanois or Emmy would echo my take on it, but I see it as a defining moment for Emmy because of where she was in her career and life, and specifically how the album sounded against the landscape it emerged into. … I wanted to make something that was undeniably and willfully me. It's amazing how many people it takes to do that sometimes! But that's kind of the point. it took many souls to make 'Wrecking Ball' but they were coming from a supportive mindset. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to be carried and still end up on your own two feet." Carlile released a longer statement offering thoughts about the title track. "I'm not my favorite person to spend my time with," she wrote. "Returning to myself is not just a lonely, but a painfully boring thing to do. So much so that I'm actually not at all interested in doing it.I prefer to double, triple, and quadruple down on co-dependency, which I've come to learn that outside of 12-Step programs and junior high school relationships, isn't really that unhealthy at all… "For me the key to learning to 'be alone' is not being alone at all. It's being alone in a crowded room. It's hearing an unexpected doorbell ring and wondering who has shown up to watch me read my book and bite my nails all day. That a guest can be a deep lean-in over a cheap bottle of wine or simply an eyebrow raise and a gesture toward the refrigerator while I play Zelda…where I totally choose myself with someone so close to me I can hear them relax. "People want to be together in silence more than we allow in our time. It's falling deeply in love with the car wheels on a gravel road. The possibility of the visitor. The "not being alone-ness" of it all… "Togetherness has given me everything I love about being alive. Starting with my original family in a single wide mobile home, gathered around a wood stove all the way to living with my band, haunting my wife everywhere she goes, raising my children on a tour bus, learning at the feet of Joni Mitchell, to making music with my greatest hero of all time, Elton John. "Why is it heroic to untether, when the tense work of togetherness is so much more interesting?…because I don't want to do it. Because I don't want to return to myself. And that's why I will."
