The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a a four-year extension with general manager John Schneider, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Wednesday, with the franchise securing its GM and president of football operations through 2030. Schneider has held the GM position since 2010. He added the role of executive vice president in 2013 and the title of president of football operations in 2024. The extension comes two years before Schneider's current deal ends in 2027. Adding three years to his tenure gives Schneider the chance to serve as the Seahawks' GM for 20 years. Yankees bolster outfield, acquire veteran Austin Slater from the White SoxNew Foto - Yankees bolster outfield, acquire veteran Austin Slater from the White Sox

CHICAGO (AP) — Austin Slater is heading to the New York Yankees. The Yankees acquired the veteran outfielder from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for minor league pitching prospect Gage Ziehl. The Yankees have a pressing need to bolster their outfield ranks with star Aaron Judge out indefinitely whiledealing with a flexor strainin his right elbow. The 32-year-old Slater hit .236 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 51 games with the White Sox this season. He has an .859 OPS against left-handed pitching. "Really enjoyed my time here and met some incredible people," Slater said. "Super fun clubhouse to be in. But then also really excited to go play for the Yankees. One of those teams as a kid you always dream about playing for. And they are right in a race for the playoffs. Excited to go there and try to help them out." The well-traveled Slater can play all three outfield positions. He spent the first seven-plus seasons of his career with San Francisco before being traded to Cincinnati last summer. New York will be Slater's fifth team in just over a year. "At this point, we're a little more prepared than we were last year," Slater said. "It was something, there was always writing on the wall that it could happen. That maybe helped us mentally prepare a little bit more this year." The Yankees will assume $564,516 of Slater's remaining $1.75 million salary, which also will increase their luxury tax by about $621,000. The trade is the latest in what has been a busy run-up to Thursday's deadline by New York. The Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from Colorado and infielder Amed Rosario from Washington over the last week. The last-place White Sox scratched right-hander Adrian Houser from his scheduled start Wednesday against Philadelphia. But center fielder Luis Robert Jr. — another player who could be on the move ahead of the deadline — was in the lineup. The 32-year-old Houser has been a pleasant surprise for Chicago after signing a $1.35 million, one-year contract on May 20. He is 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 11 starts. "Just with Houser, we were transparent with him, just the market around him and the potential for a trade," White Sox manager Will Venable said of the pitching change. "Just thought it was in everyone's best interest to switch starters today." The White Sox also recalled outfielder Will Robertson from Triple-A Charlotte before their series finale against the Phillies. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Denise Richards alleges ex Aaron Phypers stole laptop, leaked nude photosNew Foto - Denise Richards alleges ex Aaron Phypers stole laptop, leaked nude photos

A judge in California is orderingDenise Richards' soon-to-be-ex-husband Aaron Phypersto return her laptop. After the former"Real Housewives" starpetitioned the court earlier this week, claiming that Phypers had stolen her computer and "disseminated private information, including nude photographs" to "various news organizations," Judge Nicole Bershon demanded he return the device within 48 hours. In a July 29 order, Bershon forbade Phypers from distributing any intimate or sexual image ofRichardswithout her permission, as well as any other "private" or "sensitive information" he may have downloaded from her phone or computer. The order arrives amid a legal battle in which Richards has accused Phypers of years of physical abuse. The Diddy trial details are worsethan anyone expected. Will how we treat victims change? The pair, who were married in 2018, announced their split earlier this month after Phypersfiled for divorce. Since then, Richards requested and was granted a temporary restraining order. The stolen laptop lies at the center of oneRichards'previous claims – that Phypers, over the July 4 weekend, beat her and accessed her private messages. USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Richards for comment. Representatives for Phypers could not be reached at the time of publication. "Aaron stole my laptop and sent private text messages he had stolen from my laptop without my permission. Aaron threatened that I would 'disappear' if I called the police," Richards wrote in her original request for a restraining order. The longtime Hollywood fixture alleged that while she was asleep, Phypers accessed her laptop and downloaded everything from her iCloud account, taking photos of her private text messages and transferring them to his laptop. She also claimed Phypers screamed expletives at her and smashed her over the head while she was on the toilet, demanding that she hand her phone over. In a July 17 statement toPeople magazineandUs Weekly, Phypers denied his estranged wife's claims of physical and emotional abuse, slamming the allegations as "completely false and deeply hurtful." "Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise — or anyone," Phypers told the outlets. "Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience and respect." Cassie's harrowing testimony, the myth of 'mutual abuse' and what domestic violence really looks like In the court documents reviewed by USA TODAY, the "Drop Dead Gorgeous" star chronicled a pattern of alleged abuse at the hands of Phypers, writing, "Aaron regularly threatened to 'break my jaw' and would cry, beg me to stay, and promise to get help — none of which ever happened." In the July 16 filing, she alleged that Phypers had caused her "at least three concussions" and told her that he had planted recording devices in her hotel rooms and townhouses. "Throughout our marriage, Aaron threatened to kill me and himself and the police. He owns at least 8 unregistered guns," she attested in the documents. Several photos were attached at the bottom of the filing, one showing Richards with a black eye, which she claims was the result of Phypers' abuse. Richardsargued that she had refrained from reporting the abuse earlier for fear that it would result in more damage. Richard's lawyer, Brett Berman, told USA TODAY on July 21 that she would not be addressing the dispute in a "public forum" but would be continuing to address her ex's alleged abuse in the court of law. "In addition to the repeated abuse perpetrated by Mr. Phypers against Ms. Richards throughout the parties' marriage, Mr. Phypers has continued to harass Ms. Richards since being served with the Temporary Restraining Order by, among other things, disseminating private information from Ms. Richards' cell phone and laptop, which he stole," Berman wrote. "These actions continue to disturb Ms. Richards' peace," he continued. "We have warned Mr. Phypers in writing not to disseminate any information from Ms. Richards' stolen cell phone and laptop but he continues to do so. Ms. Richards will not be responding to Mr. Phypers' false allegations in a public forum and will be addressing Mr. Phypers' abuse in Court." The "Love Actually" star, who was previously married to fellow actorCharlie Sheenfrom 2002 to 2007, has been with Phypers, a businessman, for seven years. He appeared sporadically on Bravo reality series "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" during her stint on the show as well as on her solo Bravo series "Denise Richards and Her Wild Things." The mom of three and Phypers do not share children together, and the two children Richards shares with Sheen were not mentioned in the restraining order, which the judge partially granted. If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or text "START" to 88788. Braves place 5-time All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. on the injured list with Achilles tendon inflammationNew Foto - Braves place 5-time All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. on the injured list with Achilles tendon inflammation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Atlanta Braves put five-time All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list withright Achilles tendon inflammationWednesday, though the exact severity of the injury to the slugging outfielder may not be known until additional testing is done. The Braves recalled outfielder Jarred Kelenic from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his place on the roster. Acuña first experienced discomfort in his calf area Monday night, when he scored from first on Austin Riley's double to help the Braves to a 10-7 victory over Kansas City. Acuña lobbied to play on Tuesday night and Braves manager Brian Snitker assented, only for Acuña to come up limping while trying to chase down a ball in right field inan eventual 9-6 loss. "It happened when I scored from first to home on that play," Acuña explained after the game, speaking through an interpreter. "They are going to examine me (Wednesday) so we'll see how it goes." Even after he came up limping, Acuña wanted to remain in the game. He headed out to his position in the field but saw Eli White trotting out to replace him. That Acuña was able to jog into the dugout at least generated some optimism that the injury to the Achilles tendon was not a complete tear and he could be back this season. "I was kind of out there hoping they wouldn't hit it my way and of course any time you do that, they always hit it your way," Acuña said. "I told them (about the pain Monday) and everyone said: 'Take the day if you want it. You can have the day off.' I've missed so much time already through injuries I didn't want to miss any more time." Acuña, the National League MVP in 2023, has dealt with injuries for much of his career. He missed time as a rookie in 2018 with a sprained left knee ligament, then tore the ACL in his right knee to end his 2021 season. Last year, he pivoted awkwardly as he was taking his lead on the bases and wound up tearing the ACL in his left knee, ending his season after 49 games. Only twice in eight seasons has Acuña managed to play more than 119 games. After missing the start of this season, Acuña returned May 23 and began playing at an All-Star level again. He was hitting .306 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs in 55 games, including a 2-for-4 night with a homer against the Royals on Monday night. "It's an injury, I'm worried," Acuña said of the latest issue, which comes amid a season in which Atlanta has been devastated by injuries — particularly to its starting rotation. "It's more pain, but it feels kind of — I feel it a lot when I try to put pressure on it." Kelenic, the sixth overall pick of Seattle in the 2018 amateur player draft, has struggled to live up to his potential. He hit .231 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs in 131 games for Atlanta last season but was sent to Gwinnett in April of this season, after he hit .167 with two homers and just two RBIs over the first 23 games with the Braves. White is expected to be Acuña's primary replacement. He is hitting .255 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 72 games. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Notre Dame athletic director supports 16-team playoff with 11 at-large teamsNew Foto - Notre Dame athletic director supports 16-team playoff with 11 at-large teams

The Big Ten's College Football Playoff proposal isn't finding many allies outside the conference. Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua told the Athleticin an interview published Tuesday that he's also against the conference's idea for the Big Ten and the SEC to get more automatic bids to a 16-team playoff than any other conference. Bevacqua said that he's in favor of the 5+11 format, where the top five conference champions and 11 at-large teams would fill out the playoff field if it expands to 16 teams. "I happen to think that there should be automatic qualifiers for the Power 4 conference champions, and there should an automatic qualifier for the highest-rated G5 champion." Bevacqua said. "But then, whether it's 12, 14, or 16 (teams), I think you have to earn it on the field. And those should be at-large berths. "I think that's the best way, the most repeatable way, to get the very best teams to compete for a national championship year-in and year-out. And I think most people agree with that. Both the decision makers, the general public, football fans, I think that's what people want to see." The Big Ten's ideaincludes both it and the SEC getting four teams into the playoff every year while the ACC and Big 12 get two. The top group of five conference champion would also get into the playoff while the final three spots would be filled by at-large teams. It's not much of a surprise that Notre Dame would be against the Big Ten's idea; it has a much easier path to the playoff with 11 at-large berths instead of three because the Fighting Irish aren't in a conference. But Bevacqua's sentiment is still important given the sway Notre Dame has in playoff discussions. The school has a seat at the table along with conference commissioners as the playoff's future format is discussed. The SEC and its coaches aren't keen on the Big Ten's ideaand the Big 12 and ACC are staunchly against it. Yet, so far, the Big Ten and commissioner Tony Petitti are steadfast in their support for their idea. And that disagreement could ultimately delay expansion. Since there's no agreement on a future format for the playoff, it could stay at 12 past the 2025 season if there isn't a consensus regarding how it should look if it expands to 16.Petitti even admitted as much to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger last week. And given that the Big Ten's idea isn't getting much support, it's hard to see a 16-team playoff in 2026 without the conference — or the rest of college football — changing its mind.
