NEW YORK –Daniel Dae Kimseems like a good person to ask for a travel hack. The actor, 57, lives with his family in Hawaii. He spends a decent amount of time in Los Angeles and South Korea, where he filmed his latest series, Amazon Prime's"Butterfly"(all six episodes now streaming). He travels to New York to promote the espionage thriller but soon after will return to Vancouver, where he's filming Season 3 of Netflix's"Avatar: The Last Airbender." "It's a lot," the actor says, before offering a piece of advice. "The best thing to do is to forget about the time zone you left, because there's no sense in hanging on to something you're not gonna get back." The ancedote sounds more apt for navigating life than simply dealing with jet lag. But Kim may not be so quick to leave 2025 behind, a year when he was named toTime's list of the 100 most influential people in the world, earneda Tony nominationfor his role in the revival of "Yellow Face" and continues to shine a light on Asian representation in show business. "I'm incredibly grateful to be in this position and literally right here talking to you because it means that people care about the projects that I'm doing and people think that whatever I have to say means something," Kim says, "I don't know if my kids would feel the same way, but I'm very grateful." In"Butterfly,"Kim plays David Jung, a former U.S. intelligence agent living in South Korea with his wife and daughter. When Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), an agent for the spy organization Caddis, tries to kill him, Jung confronts a decision from his past while trying to save his family. "A central question in our entire season is, 'Who can you trust?'" Kim says. "And just because they're family, can you trust them? The ending to our season really speaks to that question." Kim is also an executive producer of the series and says a potential Season 2 offers "a lot more story to tell, and there are places for all of our characters to go that I find really intriguing. So let's hope people like it enough to make that happen." Kim became the first Asian nominee for best actor in a play in the Tony Awards' 78-year history. Though he lost toCole Escola("Oh, Mary!"), Kim enjoyed his experience on Broadway and hopes that an Asian actor can one day win the category. During his time working in New York, the self-described theater nerd "saw anything and everything" he could when it came to shows. "I was sometimes seeing plays, at least one a day for several weeks," says Kim, a graduate of New York University. "I have a lot of friends still here in New York who I grew up with and did my theater work with. So it's been nice to reconnect with the community here." Kim also celebrated his 57th birthday Aug. 4 in New York, marking the occasion with a "Butterfly" cast and crew dinner at the Korean restaurant Naro. However, unlike the opening of "Butterfly," where Kim's character is belting out The Killers' "Mr. Brightside," the actor did not partake in any karaoke afterward. "I do love 'Mr. Brightside,'" he jokes. "It doesn't matter who starts it − everyone finishes it, and that to me is a sign of a good karaoke song." College football preseason poll ranking errors include Tennessee, Oklahoma, ClemsonNew Foto - College football preseason poll ranking errors include Tennessee, Oklahoma, Clemson

Media members voting in college football'sAP Top 25followed the lead of theUS LBM Coaches Pollby anointingTexas as the preseason No. 1. You'll get no objection from me. The Longhorns possess the coach, the roster and the quarterback topursue a national championship. After the No. 1 spot, though, the two polls featured several discrepancies. Oklahoma became subject to the biggest disagreement. The Sooners went unranked by the coaches, but landed No. 18 in the AP poll. Here's a look at the eight biggest discrepancies between the polls, with my ruling on which poll got it right: Coaches:No. 6 AP:No. 4 Who got it right?: AP Clemson finished with four losses last season, but never mind that fading object in the rearview mirror, because Dabo Swinney retained a talented roster that's now more experienced. He even added some polish with a few transfers. Clemson touts the nation's best defensive line, along with arguably the nation's top quarterback, Cade Klubnik. The Tigers aren't just contenders inside the ACC. They're national championship contenders. Coaches:No. 17 AP:No. 15 Who got it right?:Coaches Both poll services overrated the Gators, but the coaches came closer to the mark. Florida ended last season playing well. DJ Lagway is one of the nation's most promising quarterbacks, buthe rehabbed injuries throughout the offseason, and after an underwhelming transfer haul, I question whether Lagway enjoys enough support on either side of the ball to justify these rankings in the face ofa daunting schedule. Coaches:No. 21 AP:No. 19 Who got it right?:Coaches Texas A&M being overrated is an August tradition. The Aggies were ranked in the preseason polls in each of the past six years. They finished the season ranked only twice during that span, and only once did they finish higher than their preseason ranking. That doesn't mean these Aggies will stink. They're equipped with a solid offensive line and a strong backfield. But, combine how they buckled at the end of last season with their history of failing to meet projections, and the AP awarded too much respect. Coaches:No. 20 AP:No. 17 Who got it right?: AP Kansas State unraveled last November but still finished 9-4, and the Wildcats returned a bulk of their production, including quarterback Avery Johnson. That helps explain why the Wildcats are an oddsmaker front-runner to win the Big 12. Kansas State's run game and rushing defense each should rank near the top of its conference. The coaches underrated the Wildcats, and the media corrected that. Coaches:No. 23 AP:Unranked Who got it right?:AP The coaches' ranking is out of touch with the reality that the Cougars' planned starting quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, transferred to Tulane this summer, rather than face an honor code suspension at BYU. Given that late roster twist, a different Big 12 team,Baylor, would be a better choice in the rankings than BYU. TheBearswent unranked in both polls. BYU's coaches poll ranking honors its 2024 performance rather than its 2025 reality. WHO PREVAILS?:A scavenger hunt to locate the next national champion Coaches:No. 15 AP:No. 21 Who got it right?:Coaches Lane Kiffinplays transfer roulette as well as anyone, and he assembled another impressive haul to replace the significant loss of talent from last season's 10-win team. Whether you think the AP or coaches ranking is more appropriate depends on whether you're a believer in quarterback Austin Simmons, a first-year starter. I'm a believer, after watching Simmons thrive in a relief appearance against Georgia. He'll enjoy a sufficient supporting cast. Coaches:No. 18 AP:No. 24 Who got it right?:AP Ideally, split the difference between these two rankings, but, forced to choose one, I'd say the AP rankings are closer to the mark after Tennessee endured significant losses from its playoff team, including the April departure of quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Coach Josh Heupel's track record indicates a high floor, but combine the Vols' meek transfer haul with the quarterback uncertainty, and the coaches' ranking seems too bullish. At least the schedule is accommodating, by SEC standards. Coaches:Unranked AP:No. 18 Who got it right?:AP Embattled coach Brent Venables used the offseason to seed a revival, after the 2024 season went bust. Sweeping roster changes include the additions of star quarterback John Mateer, a transfer from Washington State, and Jadyn Ott, a former All-America running back for California. The AP ranking might be a smidge lofty for a team facing Oklahoma's brutal schedule, but it's closer to the mark than the Sooners being omitted from the coaches poll, where they received the most points among unranked teams. Author Jenny Han talks directorial debut and whether she is Team Conrad or Team JeremiahNew Foto - Author Jenny Han talks directorial debut and whether she is Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah

Jenny Han, author of"The Summer I Turned Pretty"trilogy, has officially stepped into her director era. The credits to one episode ofPrime Video'shottest summer shows read like a creative mic drop: "Directed by: Jenny Han. Teleplay by: Jenny Han. Created by: Jenny Han. Based on the novel by: Jenny Han. Executive Producer: Jenny Han." "It was really funny," Han says, reflecting onEpisode 5 of Season 3, titled "Last Dance." "I think it was during post and we were all laughing. But you know what? You've got to take up space for the work that you do." 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'warns fandom to keep itself in check this summer For those who don't watch"The Summer I Turned Pretty"and have avoided the corners of TikTok besotted with Conrad or Jeremiah, the show is a coming-of-age romance that follows Isabel "Belly" Conklin to a summer beach home where she finds first love, heartbreak and self-discovery while caught in a love triangle with two brothers. Han wrote the trilogy published in 2009, 2010 and 2011 while listening toTaylor Swift'salbum "Fearless." And the megastar's marketing team,Taylor Nation, posts about the show annually on social media. The show has featured "False God," "The Way I Loved You," "This Love," "Last Kiss," "Hey Stephen," "Invisible String," "Sweet Nothing," "Delicate," "Snow on the Beach," "Bigger Than the Whole Sky," "Exile" and "You're Losing Me." Clad in a pink and white tweed dress with silver-studded straps, the author says the Aug. 6 episode marked the first − and only − time she directed on the series. But when asked if she'll direct again, she replies, "I would love to." Han also writes the screenplays, produces and pops up in the occasional cameo. In Season 1, Han donned a red dress at the debutante ball. In Season 2, she bought wine at a gas station. As for this season, she teases: "I do have a cameo, except it's just my voice. I don't think anyone's going to figure this one out. I myself was like, 'Is that me?'" So why did she pick Episode 5 to direct? Well, because of the peaches. "The peaches scene was one that people had been waiting for the whole show to see," Han says of the sexually charged moment between Conrad and Belly at a roadside fruit stand. "I wanted to treat it really carefully," she says. The other reason is because fans finally get a glimpse into Conrad's mind. ActorChristopher Brineynarrates the older brother's inner monologue. "We haven't really been able to fully understand what he's thinking until now," Han says. She hired a professional artist to help her storyboard the entire episode. "Even though I had written it and read it a million times, there was something new I was finding on the page every single time I looked at the script," she says. "New thoughts that I was having, like, 'Oh, maybe I'll do this or that.' And I think that made it feel very exciting and fresh for me, like its own sort of creative wellspring." But even meticulous planning couldn't predict when wildflowers would bloom. "With the peaches scene, we had to reschedule three times," she says. "They still hadn't bloomed yet, so we kept coming back and checking on them, and it was like a dirt patch. But finally at go time, they were blooming perfectly." Conrad or Jeremiah? How 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' books end Han, 44, is no stranger to storytelling success. She also wrote the wildly popular series"To All the Boys I've Loved Before,"which spawned its own blockbuster Netflix adaptations. While none of Swift's songs appeared in the"To All the Boys"films, Han wrote a letter to theEras Toursinger requesting to use a track for "The Summer I Turned Pretty." Swift has delivered year after year. "Her team is awesome," Han says. "We've been so lucky to have her music on the show every season. And that's the biggest gift of all. It's a gift to me as a fan, but it's also a gift to the original book readers and all the people who are fans of the show." Han's writing remains the beating heart of the series, drawing in fans young and old. "People watch it with their grandpas, people watch it with their wives or their daughters," she says. "I've heard from guys who felt Conrad's anxiety really resonated with them. And also losing a parent I think is very universal." There's something indelible about how the series connects with millennial women, those who first read the books as teens and now watch them as adults. "The fact they're still here and they're still really resonating with the story is so special to me," Han says. One enduring mystery among fans is how the main character got her name. "I was a nanny at the time and the girl that I was babysitting for had a friend named Isabel, I think," Han says. "And I believe people called her Belly. They were really young when she had that nickname, and I thought it was very cute." Han says Belly's best friend, Taylor, is not named afterSwift. Amid the success, one lingering question remains: Is Han working on a new manuscript? "I would love to be able to sit down and write a new book," she says, acknowledging she hasn't written an unreleased novel. At least, not yet. "It's just a very different headspace to be in," she says, adding that her time and energy has been fully consumed by the drama at Cousins Beach. And if you're wondering what team Han is on − Jeremiah or Conrad − she's diplomatic. "I think all the characters are dear to me, so I really couldn't pick favorites," she says. "Team Belly, for sure." Don't miss anyTaylor Swiftnews; sign up for thefree, weekly newsletter This Swift Beat.
