20 Iconic Roles That Were Almost Played by Different ActorsNew Foto - 20 Iconic Roles That Were Almost Played by Different Actors

Last Updated on July 5, 2025 by Matt Staff We all have favorite movie characters that feel like they were born to be played by a single actor. But behind the scenes, many of these iconic roles almost looked completely different -and we mean really different. Can you imagine someone else saying "I'll be back" or slipping into that black leather catsuit?Let's take a nostalgic trip and look at 20 legendary roles that were almost played by other stars. Before Harrison Ford grabbed the whip and hat, Tom Selleck was actually the first choice for Indiana Jones. Due to his commitment toMagnum, P.I., Selleck had to turn it down. It's hard to imagine anyone else running from giant boulders quite like Ford. John Travolta was offered the role of Forrest Gump but decided to pass on it. He later admitted that turning it down was a huge mistake. Tom Hanks went on to win an Oscar and gave us one of the most beloved performances in movie history. Al Pacino was approached to play Han Solo inStar Wars, but he turned it down because he didn't understand the script. Harrison Ford then stepped in and became an intergalactic icon. Can you imagine Pacino piloting the Millennium Falcon? Gwyneth Paltrow was in the running to play Rose inTitanic, but the role ultimately went to Kate Winslet. Winslet's performance helped launch her career into stardom. It's hard to picture anyone else saying, "I'll never let go." Nicolas Cage was offered the role of Aragorn inThe Lord of the Rings, but he turned it down due to family commitments. Viggo Mortensen stepped in and gave the character a legendary presence. Imagine Cage battling orcs in Middle-earth. Emily Blunt was originally cast as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts. Scarlett Johansson stepped in and made the character her own. Fans can't imagine anyone else in that red wig. Molly Ringwald was offered the role of Vivian inPretty Woman, but she turned it down. Julia Roberts took the part and became America's sweetheart almost overnight. Ringwald later said she didn't regret the decision at all. Will Smith was approached to play Neo inThe Matrix, but he declined to star inWild Wild Westinstead. Keanu Reeves took the role and made cinematic history. It's tough to picture anyone else dodging bullets in slow motion. Annette Bening was originally cast as Catwoman inBatman Returns, but she had to drop out after becoming pregnant. Michelle Pfeiffer then stepped into the leather catsuit and delivered an unforgettable, fierce performance. Many fans believe Pfeiffer's Catwoman is still the best ever brought to the screen. Sean Connery was offered the role of Gandalf inThe Lord of the Rings, but he turned it down because he didn't understand the script. Ian McKellen then stepped in and gave us the wizard we all know and love. Connery later admitted he regretted saying no. Reese Witherspoon was considered for the role of Cher inClueless, but the part eventually went to Alicia Silverstone. Silverstone's performance became a cultural touchstone of the '90s. Reese turned out fine, though: she still hadLegally Blondecoming! Jim Carrey was considered for Captain Jack Sparrow inPirates of the Caribbean, but scheduling conflicts got in the way. Johnny Depp's quirky performance made the character unforgettable. Carrey might have taken the pirate in a whole other comedic direction. Before Arnold Schwarzenegger becametheTerminator, producers actually considered O.J. Simpson for the role. Ultimately, they thought Simpson was "too nice" to be a believable killer robot. Schwarzenegger's performance went on to define his career and gave us a line we'll never forget: "I'll be back". Leonardo DiCaprio was originally set to play Patrick Bateman inAmerican Psycho, but he dropped out due to image concerns. Christian Bale stepped in and delivered a chilling performance. Imagine DiCaprio with that axe. Christina Applegate was offered the role of Elle Woods inLegally Blonde, but she turned it down fearing it was too similar to her role inMarried…with Children. Reese Witherspoon made Elle an icon of empowerment and pink fashion. Russell Crowe was first considered for Wolverine inX-Men, but he declined. Hugh Jackman then took on the claws and became a fan favorite. Crowe later said he didn't want to be typecast as a "wolf-like" character. Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly inBack to the Futureand even filmed some scenes. But he was replaced by Michael J. Fox, whose performance defined the character. Today, it's nearly impossible to imagine anyone else in that DeLorean. Anne Hathaway was cast as Tiffany inSilver Linings Playbook, but she dropped out due to creative differences. Jennifer Lawrence took over and won an Oscar for her portrayal. Hathaway later said she had no hard feelings. Matthew McConaughey auditioned to play Jack inTitanic, but James Cameron ultimately chose Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio's role became one of his most memorable performances. McConaughey probably didn't mind because he had plenty of "alright, alright, alright" moments ahead. John Krasinski actually came close to becoming Captain America in the MCU. He even got as far as trying on the suit, but eventually the role went to Chris Evans. Krasinski joked that he knew he wasn't right for it once he saw Evans' biceps. Hollywood history is full of fascinating "what ifs," and these almost-cast stories show just how different our favorite films could have been. Brooks Lee's walk-off bunt single lifts Twins to 6-5 win over RaysNew Foto - Brooks Lee's walk-off bunt single lifts Twins to 6-5 win over Rays

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brooks Lee drove in the game-ending runwith a bunt singlein the ninth inning on Saturday as the Minnesota Twins beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5. Garrett Cleavinger (0-4) walked Byron Buxton to start the ninth. Willi Castro followed with a single that moved Buxton to third. Lee then bunted the first pitch up the first-base line. First baseman Yandy Dรญaz didn't have a play on Buxton, so he let the ball go, and it rolled over the bag for a hit. Danny Jansen singled, doubled and tripled for Tampa Bay, while Ryan Jeffers had three hits for the Twins, who walked off the Rays for the second straight day. Jhoan Duran (5-3) pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Rays starter Taj Bradley worked out of some early trouble, then cruised through the middle innings, retiring 13 of 14 batters at one point. But he gave up a pair of singles in the sixth and the Rays went to their bullpen. Kevin Kelly, who allowed Harrison Bader's walk-off homer on Friday, gave up an RBI single to Lewis. Kody Clemens then hit an 0-1 pitch to deep left for his 10th homer to tie the game at 5-all. Key moment In the second inning, the Twins had the bases loaded with nobody out and a run in. But Bradley struck out Clemens and got an out at the plate on a dribbler to the mound. Buxton then missed a grand slam by inches, flying out to the wall in left field to end the inning. Key stat Brandon Lowe extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the fifth inning. That ties the Rays franchise record, set by Dรญaz last season. Up next RHP Drew Rasmussen (7-5, 2.78 ERA) of the Rays will face Twins RHP Joe Ryan (8-4, 2.75) in Sunday's series finale. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/MLB

Jennifer Aniston Jokes That Season 4 of 'The Morning Show' Is 'Not Friends'New Foto - Jennifer Aniston Jokes That Season 4 of 'The Morning Show' Is 'Not Friends'

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Spoilers below. What's next forThe Morning Show? For a series that literally began its latest season IN SPACE, the possibilities are endless. Season 3 went from the outer layers of earth's atmosphere to the bowels of the Capitol on January 6th—all while navigating the network's pending sale to an Elon Musk-like billionaire, Paul Marks (Jon Hamm). The series, which began as a reflection of the #MeToo movement, continued to rip from headlines, this latest season being the overrun of Roe vs. Wade, and the current state of media. In the end, Alex is making power moves, Bradley is about to do time, and UBA is heading into a drastically different direction than we thought. So, where to now? On May 28, it wasannouncedthat season 4 will premiere on September 17 on Apple TV+. From there, the 10-episode season will release weekly every Friday until November 19. We're expecting to see much more of stars Jennifer Aniston (Alex) and Reese Witherspoon (Bradley), as well as Billy Crudup (Cory), Mark Duplass (Chip), Nestor Carbonell (Yanko), Karen Pittman (Mia), Greta Lee (Stella), and Nicole Beharie (Chris). Oscar winner Marion Cotillard will also join the cast as Celine Dumont, "a savvy operator from a storied European family," according to Apple. And according toThe Hollywood Reporter,Jeremy Irons, Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, and Boyd Holbrook will appear in season 4 as well. Hamm will also be returning. But one character we won't be seeing again? Laura Peterson, Bradley's love interest. PerVariety, actress Julianna Margulies will not return for season 4, a decision reportedly made prior to Margulies'scontroversial commentson a podcast in November 2023. Season 4 isconfirmedto have a time jump. The show is now set to take place in spring 2024 after the merger has been finalized. The showrunner already hinted that this might happen in a previous conversation withTHR. "I think you probably have to have some kind of time jump, because it takes so long to write and shoot and post the show," she said. "You don't want to get too far behind in real time, in terms of the era we're playing and when people are watching it. But I think those time jumps, actually, are great. Because they allow for really surprising reveals at the top of the season. It's a little bit of: 'How did they get there? Wait, he's doing what? Those two are together?!' I think just on a transparent deliciousness of story, you can have a lot of fun with this big cast." Now, the storied media conglomerates UBA and NBN will join forces in a massive deal that somehow turned out to be more beneficial than selling to billionaire Paul Marks. (He who surveilled journalists and lied to NASA.) But as Mia and Stella hint in the control room, this new chapter is going to lead to a lot of changes in both companies: in leadership, talent, and staff. With two major companies coming together, projects and roles will double up. Will we see intense competition arise between anchors and producers between companies? Whose jobs are at stake? "I think mergers are always messy, whether they're personal or corporate," showrunner Charlotte Stoudt toldDeadline. "So, it's always fun to play with that. Whether that story isthestory is a question we're wrestling with right now. There are all sorts of things to talk about. We're also trying to reflect the world…how many streamers can there be? People getting laid off, that sort of stuff. So we also just want to reflect what's actually happening in the media world. Some people are doing very well, some people are doing less well. It's like the Wild West." And at the end of season 3, Bradley—now resigned from UBA—and her brother, Hal, turn themselves in to the FBI to account for his assault of a police officer during the January 6th insurrection (and Bradley subsequently withholding evidence). That leaves a big question for the state of the series's leading pair: How will the show handle Alex and Bradley being apart? (Even more than they did this past season?) Stoudt also teased what's to come in a discussion withDeadlinein April 2024. "We blew everything up last year with the biggest bomb we could possibly build," sheexplained. "So, we have to ask ourselves how is the band going to get back together, and what will that look like? We get into the world of DeepFakes and AI and the misinformation in the fog of war that we're seeing now in the Middle East and stuff. We're looking at who can trust. And can you trust what you're seeing? Can you trust yourself? Can you trust your news outlet?" In an interview in July 2025 withPeople, Aniston hinted at a "complicated" season. "The Morning Showis just a beast to film. It is layered, it's complicated, it's emotional, it hits on a lot of topics and current events, so let's just say, it's notFriends," she joked. Of herself and Witherspoon producing, Aniston said, "We're involved in every single aspect of the show, on top of just the performance side, which is a big piece of it. But I've got incredible support, and we have such an incredible team." Yes. On July 8, Aniston shared with her Instagram followers that the cast has officially begun shooting. "Let @themorningshow season 4 games begin ๐Ÿฅณ Here we come! ❤️๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ❤️๐Ÿฅ‚," she wrote in the caption along with a BTS photo of her, Witherspoon, and Notaro. They wore coordinating denim looks and carried name plates with their characters' names. Aniston also included a picture of the front of the script for episode 401, titled "My Roman Empire." "Sinners" repurposed 'a warehouse full' of period costumes from Marvel's stalled "Blade" movie

Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection Sinnershas a surprising connection to theMarvel Cinematic Universe. Sev Ohanian, who producedRyan Coogler's hit 2025 vampire drama, has revealed that the flick repurposed unused costumes from Marvel's long-delayedBladefilm, a reboot of the originalBlademovie trilogy featuringWesley Snipesthat was set to starMahershala Ali. "Ruth Carter was working on theBlademovie that ended up not shooting — which I think they're still going to make," the producer explained in a newinterview with ScreenCrush."At one point, that film was going to deal with the past around the same era asSinners." TheMichael B. Jordan–starring project is set in 1932 in the middle of the Great Depression, and Carter — who won Oscars for her costumes in Coogler'sBlack Pantherfilms — was able to pull from the work she'd already completed forBladewhen it came time to dress the cast ofSinners. "She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, 'Yo, we got to shoot this movie, like, tomorrow,'" Ohanian said. "And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price." The producer rejected the notion that theBladecostumes were used forSinners' principal cast members, though. "A lot of the background actors in our movie are wearing those clothes," he explained, pushing against the interviewer's theory that "Mahershala Ali–sized" actors would have especially benefitted from the costume transaction. "It was all about the background actors." Carter previously toldDesigning Hollywoodhow her work onBladeinformed theSinnerscostumes. "I was preppingBladefor Marvel, and it was a 1920sBladestory, and it got shut down because of the writers' strike and the actors' strike," she said in April, "so I was just in limbo, you know, having done a lot of research for this period piece about a vampire." Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection Once she heard about Coogler's idea forSinners, she saw a golden opportunity to put thatBladeresearch to good use. "I thought, 'Okay, I have already been living in that space for quite a long time, preppingBlade, andBlade's not going to happen, so let me hear it,'" she recalled. CooglertoldEntertainment Weeklyin April that the film's central time-bending juke joint sequence, which features dozens of extras costumed by Carter, was among the project's most complicated to shoot. "We did a lot of rehearsals, and our crew size swelled up from that," the director explained. "We expanded for all of the extras and the dancers and all of the different materials we needed." Shooting the scene on IMAX film proved particularly difficult. "It would be impossible to film it in one take," Coogler said. "They can only film for about a minute and a half — maybe it's a minute and 45 — because they rip through film at such a speed that you can only shoot for so long. So we basically broke it up into sections that were as long as we could film per reel." Want more movie news? "I'm just taking it a day at a time," Alirecently toldThe Hollywood Reporterof the film being stuck in development purgatory. "I would love forBladeto happen. We'll see.
