We back Erik! Man United chiefs still have faith in Ten Hag despite thumping defeat by Liverpool and sluggish start to the new season
Erik ten Hag has the full backing of his Manchester United bosses despite Sunday's embarrassing collapse against Liverpool at Old Trafford. United's 3-0 defeat raised fresh doubts over Ten Hag after he narrowly avoided the axe this summer and signed a one-year contract extension. But chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth, who both started work at the club in July, remain firmly behind the Dutchman. Berrada said: 'Erik has our full backing and we have worked very closely together in this transfer window.

Team GB bladerunner Jonnie Peacock insists he is still quicker than his 100m opponents after fifth-place final finish - and claims the Paralympics has been allowed to 'die'
Bladerunner Jonnie Peacock insisted on Monday evening that he was better than his 100m opponents, despite a fifth-place finish in a final which raised questions about whether he will ever win Paralympic gold again. The 31-year-old London and Rio champion said that his own persistent 'fiddling' with his prosthetic limb, altering the location of 'little bolts' to change its position, had to stop if he is to triumph in Los Angeles, where he is determined to compete.

Transgender Valentina Petrillo's presence in the Paralympics is an insult to her female rivals. Allowing her to run is a disgrace, writes IAN HERBERT
On a warm autumnal morning in Paris on Monday, a group of women gathered for the occasion to which they had devoted three years of hugely challenging lives. A Cuban who has become an icon of parasport, an Iranian who has become an emblem of freedom for millions in her country, and one of the most loved sportswomen in Mexico were among those competing in the heats of the Paralympic Games 400 metres for women who are visually impaired.

Man United stars 'throw their support behind Casemiro' after his Liverpool horror show with one member of Erik ten Hag's side leading the rallying cry for the Brazilian
Manchester United players have rallied around Brazilian midfielder Casemiro after his problematic performance in Sunday's 3-0 defeat against rivals Liverpool, according to reports. Casemiro, 32, endured a torrid 45 minutes against Arne Slot's visiting side, during which time he made two mistakes that contributed to Luis Diaz's two opening strikes. United boss Erik ten Hag hooked the Real Madrid legend at half-time - replacing him with debutant youngster Toby Collyer - and cut a sullen figure as he left Old Trafford.

On the way into the boardroom at Old Trafford, there is a Manchester United opus bound in red leather lying on a table. On this occasion, the pages are open at an old interview with Ruud van Nistelrooy featuring a photo of the Dutchman shortly after he joined in 2001. Cynics might go so far as to suspect that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the people he has put in charge of the club have been doing their research in case they have to sack Erik ten Hag and replace him with Van Nistelrooy, who returned to Old Trafford as assistant manager this summer.

Erik ten Hag says he isn't Harry Potter - but he's not even as good as Graham Potter: Man United manager's absurd arrogance has me feeling sorry for him, writes OLIVER HOLT
Erik ten Hag's new favourite answer when a journalist asks him a question he does not like is: 'I am sorry for you.' He was at it again on Sunday evening after his Manchester United side had been hammered 3-0 by a Liverpool team that was on a different level. Ten Hag, just for context, led United to their worst top flight finish for more than 30 years last season.

Arne Slot is shining as Jurgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool, Man United's cracks continue to show, and which surprise package could push for Europe? FIVE THINGS we have learned from the Premier League season so far
The Premier League has only been back for three weeks, but it is already supplying us with its usual unrelenting drama. As we head into the first international break of the new season, we have already seen the highs and lows that England's top-flight brings to clubs up and down the country. Only two teams have come through the opening rounds unscathed. Champions Manchester City have won their opening three matches without too much trouble, while Liverpool's life under Arne Slot has them sitting level on points with the Citizens having yet to concede a goal.

England are hopeful shock selection Angel Gomes will be fit enough to report for duty on Tuesday amid fitness concerns. The Lille central midfielder was selected in interim head coach Lee Carsley's first squad on Thursday, the 24-year-old one of four first time international picks. Valentina Petrillo, the Paralympics' FIRST trans track athlete, fails to qualify for the final of the women's 400m T12 despite the 51-year-old father-of-two setting a new PB
Transgender Paralympic sprinter Valentina Petrillo missed out on a place in the women's 400m T12 final at Paris 2024 despite setting a new personal best. The 51-year-old - who has won 11 national men's titles - qualified for the semis on Monday morning, after the sport's governing body accepted the athlete's eligibility to compete. But a third-place finish in a PB time of 57.58 seconds in her semi-final later on Monday was not enough to see her progress.
