According to the death certificate, whichEntertainment Weeklyhas obtained, Blackstock's cause of death was malignant melanoma — a type of skin cancer it says he had for three years — and his manner of death is listed as natural. The document also lists seizures as the only "significant conditions contributing to death but not resulting in the underlying cause." The death certificate states his time of death as 11:13 a.m. on Aug. 7. It also states that no autopsy was performed, and that Blackstock was cremated. PEOPLEfirst reported on the details from Blackstock's death certificate. Dan Hollis, coroner for Silver Bow County, previously confirmed the form of skin cancer as Blackstock's cause of death to EW. At the time, it was reported that Blackstock passed peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Butte, Mont. A representative for the family said in a statement, "We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time." Blackstock's death was reported just one day after Clarkson announced she was postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas residency at Colosseum at Caesars Palace. "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas," shewrote on Xat the time. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them," she continued, referring to herdaughter River Rose, 11, andson Remy, 9. Clarkson apologized to fans, writing, "I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding." Blackstock, who also represented Clarkson at one point, first met in 2006 at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards and wed in 2013. After nearly seven years of marriage, they separated in 2020. Following a long and contentious legal battle over child custody, spousal support, and division of property, the two finalized their divorce in 2022. Blackstock, who was also the former stepson of country singer Reba McEntire (his father, Narvel, and McEntire were married from 1989-2015), reportedly left talent management and moved to Montana in 2021. His death certificate lists his occupation at the time of his passing as "rodeo producer." In addition to his children with Clarkson, Blackstock was also father to daughter Savannah, 23, and son Seth, 18, from his marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
