TheGreen Bay Packers' move to acquire star edge defenderMicah Parsonsfrom the Dallas Cowboys has sparked comparisons to the team's signing of Reggie White in free agency ahead of the 1993 season. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst isn't yet ready to lean into those as Parsons gets acclimated in Green Bay. "I don't think there's really any parallels at all,"Gutekunst told reporters Fridaywhen asked about the White and Parsons acquisitions. "Again, I wasn't here [when White was acquired], so it's hard for me really to compare that. A different time. I think the Packers organization was in a different space at that time. So, I can't really comment on that." Gutekunst never overlapped with White at all during the Hall of Famer's six years in Green Bay. White played his last season with the Packers in 1998 while Gutekunst joined the team in 1999. And before joining the Packers, Gutekunst admitted he was more focused on the college game than professional football. "I knew who Reggie White was. I mean, he was one of the best players in the world," the 52-year-old said. "But I certainly didn't follow the Packers back then." NFL POWER RANKINGS:Fallout of Micah Parsons trade evident going into Week 1 White originally signed with the Packers in 1993. He inked a four-year, $17 million deal, which then made him the highest-paid defefnsive player in NFL history. White recorded 68.5 sacks across 95 games with the Packers. He also helped lead the team to a 35-21 Super Bowl 31 win over the New England Patriots following the 1996 NFL season. The comparisons between Parsons and White have been sparked, in part, by the early-career success of both pass rushers. They are the only two players in NFL history to record at least 12 sacks in each of their first four seasons. While Gutekunst is excited to see what Parsons can do in Green Bay, he believes it will be critical to allow the former Cowboy to create his own legacy with the Packers. "Micah's his own man, and he's going to forge his own path here," Gutekunst said. "But I think he's going to be a really, really, really good fit for our locker room, a really good fit for our team."
